Wagyu Dry Aged Meatballs
Leslie C.

Wonderful experience! Everything was stellar. Excellent, friendly, and attentive service from Dianna and Megan! The venue is gorgeous! Beautiful brick building with elegant wooden furniture, and a piano in the main room. Chic atmosphere. Multiple dining rooms and lovely bar too. Very spacious interior and beautiful outdoor patio. We are outside and loved it. It was a cooler evening but we're so happy we sat outside. Romantic lighting, lovely heat lamps, and we were offered blankets as well. There is also an upper level rooftop area that was hosting a wedding. I love how much space this building has. I had the blood orange Paloma cocktail, which was good but I didn't really taste the blood orange. My boyfriend enjoyed his Manhattan. The food is high quality and fabulous. I ordered one of the specials, the Heirloom Tomato Panzanella. It was a beautiful and fresh salad with tomatoes, nectarines, red onion, croutons, and stracciatella cheese as the bottom base instead of lettuce. It was delicious! I paired it with the lobster bisque, which was epic. It has this magnificent puff pastry baked over the top and it's so tasty to dip in the bisque. Truly special. My boyfriend loved his meatloaf entree. We also really enjoyed the Wagyu meatballs as our appetizer, which had a perfectly spicy marinara sauce with it. We were also given delicious complementary rolls and butter. The Brussels sprouts were very good too, and the potatoes at gratin were creamy and fantastic. For dessert, I loved the homemade chocolate iced cream, drizzled with olive oil, and sprinkled with sea salt. We definitely had a feast and enjoyed every bite. It was a very special evening!

Awesome service, great food! Sounds levels were great even with lots of tables around us. Specials were fresh and very tasty! All of the deserts are plenty of split for 2.

The interior and patio are both beautiful. The bartender was super friendly, then our server who I believe was Joe was incredible and even offered to take a photo of our group for us since we had out of towners. This is what a true old school steakhouse should be! The food was incredible, and my steak was cooked perfectly. Even the free dinner rolls were just that wonderful opening touch. definitely would come back!!

22 oz Dry Aged Ribeye Cowboy Cut
Mark J.

Phenomenal dinner from start to finish. They were out of the standard ribeye, but honestly no complaints. The dry aged ribeye more than made up for it. Paired with fresh roasted garlic and black truffle butter on top, every bite was rich, layered, and exactly what a steakhouse experience should feel like. The service was on point attentive, polished, and matched the energy of the space perfectly. The vibe is upscale and elevated, think smart casual rather than stuffy. Drinks were solid too -- well crafted and a great complement to the meal. Chicago Firehouse sets the bar high. If the dry aged ribeye with truffle butter is wrong, I don't want to be right. Will absolutely be back. -Mr.

Chicago Firehouse is a well-known establishment that ironically caught fire a dozen years ago but managed to rebuild and has never disappointed. The service is impeccable and the food is perfect. I had the wedge salad and twin filets along with an assortment of shareable sides. The bar and restaurant has high ceilings and floor to ceiling paintings.

Had a great dinner at the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant. Was there for Bruno Mars concert at the soldier field and decide to try this amazing restraint. The dry-aged ribeye was the highlight of the meal perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with rich, beefy flavor. The salmon was equally impressive, flaky and fresh with a nicely balanced seasoning. The broccolini provided a crisp, flavorful complement to both entrées. The historic atmosphere, attentive service, and beautifully restored firehouse setting made the experience even more memorable. A great spot for a special night out or anyone looking for a classic steakhouse experience.

I really like the ambience of this old fire station turned restaurant. We made a reservation for a Friday night and were seated right away. We had wonderful service here. They serve the kids drinks in the cutest fire hydrant cup! For food I tried the lobster bisque, it was good, but I would love to see chunks of lobster in it. My husband got the chicken dish with kale and potatoes, and it was much more flavorful than my dish of the trio medallions. I felt like the mushroom sauce needed more flavor and it was overloaded with mushrooms. Overall, we had a good experience here, if I return, I would try different menu items .

The wonderful experience began with a very attentive host and general manager who recognized our reservation and that we had a birthday in our party. The birthday sash for my fiance was a lovely touch. We elected the Firehouse Executive offering for two which begins with a well balanced lobster bisque with a lovely pastry topping. I could go through all of the dining options but while the rest were excellent including a perfectly cooked filet; the star of the show was the creamed spinach. The total offering was amazing and we left pleasantly full with leftovers to easily feed two more. I cannot wait to return to this gem built into an old fire station.

Happy Hour items and a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake appetizer off the regular menu

First time visiting. Great happy hour specials. I was very impressed with the drinks. The crab cake was good. I was so happy it wasn't full of fillers especially since it was $28. I would mind trying a few other things next time.

The Chicago firehouse is an iconic steakhouse in the south loop. The building an architecture masterpiece and it is remodeled after an old Chicago firehouse. The menu features upscale menu items with plenty of steak and seafood options. I really enjoyed all of the food especially the lobster bisque and fish and chips. Service was also fantastic there were a couple of high profile people there but the staff still gave us great service. An absolute great place to get dinner while in Chicago.

Espresso Martini
Jordan D.

I was told they had the best espresso martini in town so I had to come try it. The drink didn't live up the hype but wasn't bad, I've just had better. The food was great I tried the half roasted chicken and shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. The shrimp was very fresh and on the larger size which is always a plus. The chicken was good as well, the gravy pairs well. Won't be back for the martinis but the food will see me again.

All out delicious meal. Not all reviews need a long drawn out explanation. Just go and experience for yourself. The service, food, and drinks were all excellent.

$5 meatball slider!

Old firehouse from 1905 to 1987! Server Jordan filled us in on the history and helped us choose food. Good happy hour with $5 wine and beer and $5 appetizers! Tangible reminders of the building's past abound, such as the wood paneled doors originally used as exits for horse drawn fire engines. Even got a pic of the fire pole the firemen used to get to the first floor. They must have all been skinny. Great experience!

The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant

Is there a kids menu available and do you use your regular menu on game days? I noticed a game day menu on your website but it seemed very different/limited from your regular menu.…

Of course. We are a neighborhood restaurant, so you’ll see suits, couples on a first date, Northerly Island concert goers as well as Bears fans in full regalia. A little bit of everything. See you soon!

Is the meat halal?

It is not.

Is the dinning room now open inside? I heard about this place and have been wanting to go but I want to wait to be able to see all the Old Firehouse architecture while there.

Yes it is open again, although call ahead as I believe their hours have changed.

What is the dress code?

It's mostly dressy. However, during concerts and Bears games it really doesnt matter, especially at the bar.

Do they offer happy hour specials?

Yes! Some of the best in SL. 4-6 and it's every day. $3.50 Stella and Anti Hero. $5 glasses of wine and discounted apps and oysters.

Apologies was nearby our hotel, the Marriott Marquis. We started with a cappuccino and an O.J. Both were perfect and my daughter commented that it tasted like they had just fresh squeezed the oranges moments ago. We considered ordering the pastry tower, but instead opted to share three dishes. It eneded up being more food than we could finish. Portion sizes were big, especially for the quality and price. We shared 1 savory and 2 sweet dishes: the banana business croissant, the warm cinnamon roll, and the fritatta Espinosa. Each one completely impressed us and we're so delicious. We told the server we couldn't belive they were both baking high end pastries like this and preparing amazing savory dishes. Overall, our service was quick and friendly. The room was clean, spacious and modern. If I visit Chicago again from the East Coast, I would happily visit Apolonia again. I would love to try some of the brunch drinks and more items.

They were really fast and good at getting us out super promptly, which was appreciated. I didn't take a photo of everything we ate so I don't remember all of what we ordered. The food was good but a four stars because some items were really delicious (the black truffle bread and mussels toast for example, maybe some of the pastas) but some of the items were just fine (e.g., red prawn carpaccio). If Yelp did fractional stars, I'd probably do a 4.5 or 4.25, but because the food is more expensive I expect every dish to be more impressive. I found the pistachio dessert that a lot of people mentioned in the reviews to be underwhelming although fun to look at (however what I care about is taste).

Think of the quintessential restaurant scene in a movie where a business executive grabs a quick power lunch, surrounded by other professionals, before heading back to the office for that BIG meeting. I arrived around 6PM for a table, I was told I could go to the bar for bar seating or get my name on the list and wait. So I went to the bar but surprisingly, there were couple other parties waiting at the bar for a seating too. We actually waited about 45 minutes at the bar for seating, and then I received a text an hour later that a table would be ready. Since I was already seated at the bar, I kept my bar seating and forgo the table. So you might be able to get a table seating if you get your name on the list for a weekday dinner. I have to admit this place felt very dim, it feels darker - I supposed that tis the ambiance of a nicer, upscale restaurant. However, I have to admit they are laxed on the dress code. I don't actually know if there's a dress code although a lot of people are in more business casual/dressy attire. I wasn't in anything dressy though and no one said anything. As for the food, I think it is delicious. So we ordered 2 different steak dishes - the bone in aged rib eye and the steak & frites. I love the pairing salt that comes with it, it really tops it off for the steaks. We also ordered sides -- sides do not come with the steaks, they are purchased separately. However, the creamed spinach and the truffle mac and cheese were amazingly delicious. I still remembered the deliciousness as I am writing this review. The sides definitely tops it off. I think they do an excellent job cooking the steak, I love that they already cut it perfectly for me. This is an excellent steak place, great sides. It can get a little busy/crowded, but service is also pretty good. I think the staff does a good job overall given the craziness of this place. It seems like it is always packed. I see people in their "work attire" come here for drinks too and possibly for a bite to eat. I would definitely recommend this place to others -- if you don't want to wait for a table, plan ahead and book a reservation ahead of time.
