Amazing Food. We had the Carolina style chicken sandwich. OMG that was great and the House style, equally as good. The fries were season well. We also had the dirty bird...THAT WAS A REAL TREAT. The service was the stand out. The lady, I can't remember her name. She's African American. She has to be one of the best hostesses I've encountered in a minute. She was knowledgeable, give us her opinion on what to get and not. Everything came to us in a reasonable time. Prior to getting our food, she brought us one biscuit, hot honey sauce and a small amount of coleslaw slaw so we can taste. Phenomenal! I normally order the Carolina style sandwich (delicious) but this weekend I opted for Nashville hot tenders with chipotle ranch and Alabama white sauce. I love this place. Great food, always nice staff, the price is unbeatable. One of my favorite fried chicken spots in the city. One bad thing, kinda dirty. Friends and I stopped here for lunch after shopping at the bookstore next door. In a word: yum! We loved everything: the fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit that I had, the chicken tenders and fries that one friend had and the chicken and waffles ordered by the other (honestly this looked amazing; I'm ordering this the next time I come in). The ambiance was vibrant, from the wall signage that reminded me of the old hand-lettered signs in grocery stores to the pop-art chicken wallpaper in the bathroom. I ordered the House Style Chicken Sandwich (Biscuit; Nashville Hot) and side of their Creamy Mac & Cheese. For the sandwich, I see why it was hyped. It was a pretty good sandwich, the chicken was cooked well and was crispy, the biscuit was soft and flavorful (not hard like some biscuits), and that coleslaw w chipotle ranch in the sandwich was a very good addition (Rating: 8.9/10). Would beware, since the biscuit bun was soft, it did start to disintegrate on me a few bites in. Now for the mac & cheese, i seen the picture and didn't expect much, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. There was no crispy top layer like the ones from Chick-fil-A, but it some flavor and the creamy texture was proficient. Would give a standard 7.5/10 rating for the mac & cheese, they have room for improvement but are on the right track. All in all, was a decent spot that filled me up and had me trying something new. Roost Chicken and Biscuits is really good. I've eaten here 3 times and the item that I enjoy the most is the Gravy and biscuits! I recommend that food item to everyone. I enjoyed the CHICKEN CAESAR WRAP which is made of Chicken Tenders, Caesar Dressing, Romaine Lettuce, Parmesan wrapped into a soft Spinach Wrap. I also had the Nashville Hot on a Sweet Brioche which was also tasty. The cucumber coleslaw has a unique taste. Not good or bad. The sandwich ranges from around 13-16 dollars. I've driven by this place so many times and never stopped in because it always looked a little iffy to me, and the reviews seemed pretty hit or miss recently. But I decided to give it a try for takeout today, and I'm really glad I did. The biscuits were fresh and so tasty, and the chicken was pretty much perfect. We ordered two chicken biscuits, and thankfully the sauce came on the side, so nothing was soggy by the time it arrived. I went with the one that has a bit of a kick, and it was great. I also ordered the Nashville hot tenders, and they were amazing. Honestly, they might be some of the best chicken tenders in the area. They were fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. Again, the hot honey sauce was on the side, so everything kept its texture. Compared to other spots within driving distance, it is a little pricey, but the quality backs it up. I didn't interact with the staff since I ordered delivery, so I can't speak to the service. The chicken here is amazing but the service is dismal at best. Ive gone no less than 5 times in the last year and every time (without fail) the time it takes to be served is way too long. Last week my son and I were willing to gamble and tried it again. There were probably about 10-12 people outside and 3 inside other than us. We waited for 10 minutes at the and no one even acknowledged that we were there.None of the people outside had been served and there was only one server. If this is the owners way of saving money, you have no idea how much you're losing in lost customers not to mention the workload that you're putting on the server. Well this is more towards trying Roost Chicken and Biscuits for the 1st time not at their restaurant but a Catered event at 300 S Wacker Ave at my office. They served the Chicken Wings, fries and the biscuits. Their Chicken wings were just meh ok. I DID NOT taste the wow on their chicken Wings? It was too dry and bland and not juicy. The biscuits were the show as they were NOT hard like Popeyes or Church's Texas Fried Chicken. I would go to their restaurant to try their Chicken sandwiches since I got this for free in Roscoe Village since that is close to where I live versus going to downtown. This is the only place in Chicago my partner and I have eaten at for under 45 bucks (including tax and tip). After craving chicken tenders for several days, I was so happy to have landed here. I had the 3 piece chicken tender meal with fries and ranch (I am the pickiest ranch person and I was VERY pleased) My partner ordered the chicken sandwich on a brioche bun with coleslaw and was really impressed with its packed flavor and portion size. He had Texas toast on the side which was equally delicious. The best part of Roost - $2 beers and $4 cocktails! Although, the cocktails are just two ingredient mixed drinks, and I wasn't a huge fan of the gin that was in mine. Next time, I'll go for the beer deal instead. I only give it 4 stars because of how long it took for a server to get to us. I placed my order online and it appears everyone else does the same. My food was ready for pickup before the promised time and I noticed the restaurant was completely empty, but a lot of DoorDash people waiting for orders to be ready. I did not have any issues with the staff either. I ordered their Panama City Style, Carolina Style, and a Build your Own. Mine was the Carolina Style which came with pimento cheese and I ordered mine with Nashville hot. Roost in my opinion is somewhat underrated. No body talks about them. But this Nashville hot Carolina style sandwich with pimento cheese was straight fire. The chicken breast was big and fried perfectly, the cheese complemented the spiciness from the chicken perfectly. The biscuit was good. Only problem was that since it's such a wet sandwich, the bottom of the sandwich fell apart. There was absolutely no way to eat this like a traditional sandwich. Had to pull out the knife and fork. My wife chose to build her own. With a spicy chicken, cucumber coleslaw and hot honey. My son chose their Panama city style with Nashville hot. The Panama City came with American cheese, pickles and chili like mayo. Both were good, but mine was definitely my favorite. I reallllly wanted to love it after hearing all of the hype. We stopped by for lunch while walking around the area. When we walked in they told us to just sit anywhere we wanted and they brought over menus for us. I decided to have a sweet tea. It was quite a bit watered down so it just tasted like watered down ice tea which was fine because it was hot outside so I just needed a cold drink. I ordered the Carolina style chicken sandwich with came with pimento cheese on a brioche bun. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was recommended so I said sure let's try it. The sandwich was okay. The chicken was nice and juicy but the pimento part of it was overpowering and was actually more than the chicken that was in the sandwich when you spread it so it wasn't an ice cream scoop on top. I ordered a side of the coleslaw which was great and added it to the sandwich and it made a worlds difference. We also ordered the peach cobbler to try and read great review about it. But ours was not what I expected at all, it was a big burnt, from the top you wouldn't even know it was peach cobbler because it smelled like cornbread. But when you picked it up it has like 4 slices of peaches in there. Didn't really taste like cobbler, maybe we just got it on an off day? I was really disappointed in this place. I think it may be the same sandwich and high quality chicken sandwiches have just been more accessible since I last ate here in 2019. The sandwich is just fine. It NEEDS sauce which is saying something about the quality of chicken. Also there used to be a meal deal where you could get 2 sides and a sandwich for like $15 or so and now a sandwich alone costs the same. I also got the chocolate chip bread pudding... which was just bad. It used to be like a square of it and it was melty and warm and gooey and oozing. Honestly the service was the best part of my experience. The food did take forever time come out, and they added pickles after I asked for no pickles, but they quickly remade my sandwich so I wasn't that torn up about it. I got the nashville hot sandwich on a biscuit and honestly I wish I got it on a bun because the biscuit fell apart so easily and it made it very hard to eat. The chicken itself was pretty thin and overly bready but the Nashville flavor was actually spicy! The fries were pretty good too. I also had the chance to try the chocolate bread, and even though I'm not a huge chocolate fan, it was still pretty good. Overall, I would give this spot another chance, maybe order something different. I think my biggest concern is what was being played on the TVs. This review is mostly about the service, although most of the food left something to be desired. My first time at Roost, and it was pretty straightforward: we pre-ordered dinner on the website, and then drove to pick it up. I've never tried Roost before, but I've heard great things! Came in on Saturday around 6:30pm, and wasn't sure if there was a host stand to check-in at (didn't see anything?) or if I needed to get the food from the bar, so I just stood there quietly waiting. There was one woman standing behind the bar, and there was no one else standing waiting for food. This woman was doing everything to avoid greeting me or even looking in my direction... and I wasn't going to nudge or bother her and ask for my food. So I just waited. Eventually another, younger dark-haired woman comes behind the bar, they exchange some words and the first, middle-aged woman loudly exclaims "I'm not helping her!!". .... I was like.... what? I can feel the awkwardness from the second lady as she asks if I've been helped... I quietly say no. I give her my name and she tells me it's still going to be a couple minutes. Totally fine! However the entire time I continue waiting.. that first woman is huffing and puffing, rolling her eyes... visibly annoyed. She's being rude to the other woman, and clearly not in the mood to be around customers. That's fine.. we all have bad days but maybe don't stand in the front then? At one point I'm not sure if she's upset at me (I don't know her?), but all this drama just to pick up my food... I actually wanted to crawl out of my skin. I end up getting my food from the second woman about 10 mins later, I tell her thank you and try to run out of there as quickly as possible. All while getting stared down by this first lady. It was one of the most awkward interactions at a restaurant I've had in a long time. She seemed like maybe she has worked there a while (maybe a manager?) which is why she felt comfortable being so rude? The food itself- I really wish was better. The chicken tacos were OUTSTANDING- seriously so good. But I got a build your own chicken sandwich with pimento, coleslaw, and hot honey.. and it was just a mess. The toppings were falling out everywhere and there was waaay too much of it. The soggy bun literally fell apart the first bite. I had to scape off all of the toppings and the bun, and just eat the sandwich plain with the one bun that wasn't drenched from the disarray of toppings. This is good, but I'm not buying that this is the best in the city one bit. Don't get me wrong - the fried chicken is flavorful and the spice is there without it being overwhelming, but everything else... eh. I was most impressed with the biscuit though, as I typically don't like biscuits, but these weren't dry and they didn't fall apart. The most disappointing was the macaroni and cheese, which came out lukewarm and less flavorful than your standard macaroni and cheese dinner box that you can get at your local supermarket. Super delicious food however the service here was disappointing. When I first entered this restaurant the girls at the counter were distracted and didn't seem like they were excited about being there or helping customers. I had plenty of time to go over the menu thoroughly and had a craving for chicken and waffles so I ordered that and the staff promptly took the menu away from me. Instead my server bringing out my meal a super friendly chef presented me with a huge waffle a generous portion of battered and fried chicken tenders and two scoops of maple butter. I asked her a suggestion for a light side that could accompany the chicken and she suggested the coleslaw which was chopped up cabbage and cucumbers. The slaw was extremely good but there wasn't much of it. As for the chicken and waffles it was good but too sugary for my taste. It was super hard to get the attention of my server however and twice I waved over at the girls at the front counter just so I could get my bill but they were deep kn conversation and barely noticed my hand. Finally my server came to ask what I needed then disappeared in the kitchen for another ten minutes before giving me a box to go and a receipt. I'm sitting at my table and ready to leave but another guest came to her and they were obviously good friends so they were yacking some more and no one took my credit card so I could simply pay and leave. Would I eat here again? Probably not based on the super slow and unenthusiastic service. The food was good and I'd label this place more as upscale fast food with plenty of comfort food sides like homemade biscuits and macaroni and cheese. I didn't appreciate the lack of service so maybe I'd try their other location out of curiosity but upper management here should probably train the servers better. The staff looked burnt out and irritated and I'm super low maintenance so If I wasn't thrilled with the service maybe that's an issue here that needs to be addressed. I mosied in Roost on the strength of a TikTok I saw the other day. I got a house style on a biscuit and one on the brioche to go, with the idea of cutting them in half and saving the rest. First: no way I can finish a whole sandwich. They're a meal and then some. Second: the chicken was crisp and delicious. And I love the prep with the slaw and pickles. Just tremendous. And I really have no preference between biscuit and brioche: they're equally delicious in their own ways. There's no way I would go to ChicFilet which is down the road from Roost, when this is an option. I'll surely be back and next time I'll have some of those nicely priced beverages at the bar. read more

This place was excellent. Walked in and was immediately seated. Ordered a chicken sandwich with chocolate chip bread pudding and fries. The sandwich was Nashville Hot Chicken Carolina Style (jalapeño pimento cheese and hot honey) on a biscuit. It was amazing. Great fries and bread pudding to go with it. I also ordered a beer. The beer and food all came to the table in less than 5 minutes. The hot honey on the chicken sandwich was amazing and the hot honey that spilled off the sandwich and onto the fries was also great.
