Chilaquiles w/ steak and over and easy eggs
    Christine H.

CASH ONLY. Chilaquiles is SO GOOD here. I got it with chorizo with scrambled eggs and it was delicious. I almost finished the whole plate but I was so full. My friend got the same dish but with over and easy eggs with steak and she said it was also good. Whatever you get with your chilaquiles, it will be delicious. It comes with housemade salsa in a bottle and it's so good. They make 30 pounds of it every week. I had the cucumber and lime drink and it was slightly sweet and very refreshing. It paired well with the chilaquiles. The space and seating area is intimate and smaller, but it def has a homey feel and you get to watch what goes behind the scenes behind the counter as they cook and prepare ingredients. The owner is super nice and welcoming. He explains the menu very well. I will def come back here again to try their other dishes!

Okay I love this place. Amazing customer service. The staff is so friendly and greeted me with a free bowl of soup while I waited on my to-go order. The soup was so good. Tons of veggies, chicken, and bow tie pasta. The service was so phenomenal and the staff was so attentive while making my order, making sure everything was cooked how I wanted it to be. I can tell this will be a go-to for me in the future.

Nice little neighborhood diner for an affordable, fillIng breakfast or lunch. The man working behind the counter was extremely friendly and gave us a newspaper to read while waiting for food. He recommended the chilaquiles, which were bomb and I see becoming a common hangover go to. Also tried the pancakes and they were pretty good, would have been better if I weren't so shy to ask for more syrup.. The man serving us gave us a big bottle of a yummy homemade salsa to top our chilaquiles and hashbrowns with, I'd highly recommend adding a lot of it . Will definitely be coming here often, and you can't beat the price! Also just to note, it's cash only so you can come with it or use their ATM

They have a mandatory must spend of $10 per person so instead of sharing as we usually do, we each ordered a single egg breakfast. (Chef gave us two eggs each anyway.) While that was being prepared, the restaurant staff kept my coffee cup well filled. The eggs were prepared well, my home fries crispy (my wife's less so) but the star of the show is the house made bread served toasted. So very good! Their baked items are almost a must, so take advantage! They trade heavily on the Route 66 kitch for restaurant ambiance, but since it is the Centennial for the Route, it works. They have really cool shirts for the centennial so our breakfast bill was quite high with my wife's apparel purchase. lol Overall, well worth a stop.

The menu is filled with many of the typical diner favs and what they're known for is they bake their own breads, so I knew I needed to try that. Soon after sitting down, our server brought us a homemade donut hole with a slice of orange. That donut hole was so very tasty! I also got unsweetened iced tea to drink and that was freshly made and also tasted great. For my entrée, I opted for their open face tuna sandwich, which has melted American cheese on top of it and the combo of the tuna, cheese, and their amazing bread was so very good! The tuna is definitely not your ordinary tuna from a restaurant, it's high-quality, thick pieces and hardly has any mayo in it. And this portion was HUGE! I couldn't eat it all. It came with their homemade fries and cole slaw - the cole slaw was excellent and the fries were pretty good, sort of "homestyle breakfast potato" type of flavor, but a big, thick, square, beautiful fry, it just was a little soft, not very crunchy... it was very good though. Overall, we all loved what we got - would definitely return!

He completely engaged the kids at the table and made fun of all of us. Reggie completely set the mood during the check in for our reservation. Even coming over and saying the kid at our table looked like Dewey from Malcolm in the middle. For anyone's coming here: it is not your traditional diner. The servers are basically comedians who will make fun of you for anything. The atmosphere is set in 1950-1960 diner culture. And the dance breaks are great. It was the perfect place for us to link up, talk about what was happening later, and figure out what we were going to get into. Listen, the entire place was a total vibe! The staff wore their retro fits and mingled with the patrons. The bright neon, the teal and turquoise walls, and the hot pink accents were phenomenal. I absolutely loved the color scheme. The black-and-white tile definitely took it back to the diners from back in the heyday. Not my day, but somebody's day, okay?! And they put on a whole show! The staff started singing "Car Wash," and listen, it was a total vibe. They are loud, okay? They might sing right up on you and have you sitting there like, "Okayyyy!!!!" But it was never disrespectful. That is simply the aura and energy they bring, and we were here for it. Every time you go out for breakfast, you don't want just a meal, okay? We were out of town, and we wanted to enjoy ourselves. We wanted an experience, and that is exactly what this place gave us. It's fun. It's retro. It's loud. It's divey. If you want somewhere quiet, this might not be the place for you. But if you want great energy, fun outfits, singing, and a lively atmosphere, go ahead and pull up! We had an absolutely great time. Again, the outfits, the aura, and the energy made the whole experience!

The burgers are amazing - it has that beef tallow taste and adding the sunny side up egg was awesome. It's cooked perfectly to where the yolk is not dripping down my fingers, but just enough to where it trickles into the burger and adds another dimension of flavor. The interesting thing is that "single" patties are actually double, and "double" patties are actually triple. Not sure why they named it like that, but our server was good about making that known. Fries were solid but not as amazing as the burger. Wished they were a little thinner. Pretty small seating inside, only a couple booths, tables, and bar seating. They do have a fair sized patio for outdoor seating, so that helps with getting people in and out. Since the space is a bit compact, it can get a little noisy inside. We did paid street parking

I was a bit confused because it turns out a single cheeseburger at Au Cheval is actually a double because it comes with two beef patties. Personally, I would've just preferred one. Otherwise, it was a very nice burger, but I can't say it changed my brain chemistry. The French Fries were also tasty. Service was incredibly professional, attentive, and quick. Worth the visit!

We've always had a great experience there. There was a 15 minute wait when we arrived, but were seated in less than five minutes. We had a nice booth near the front of the restaurant. From the last time I was there, the menu looks the same, except the prices have gone up. Everything has been going up in price everywhere. They also note that they add a three percent surcharge to cover the increasing costs, but you can let your server know if you don't want to pay the charge. We ordered a pickle tray, which is one dill cut into four slices and a sliced pickled tomato. The pickles were good except I wish they had full sour pickles on the tray, too. For our entrees, my wife and mother split the grilled cheese. The sandwich comes with soup and fries. Their fries are cooked in beef tallow so have that extra good taste. The sandwich is large so they didn't even sample the soup. I had the salami sandwich. It's served on sliced challah (yum). When ordering, they asked if I wanted it thick or thin, hot or cold. I asked for sliced thick and hot. When it arrived, there were two slices of salami on each side of the bread. It was about four inches in diameter and about two inches thick - enormous. It also came with their beef tallow fries. My meal was delicious but way too much to eat. We ended taking home the soup and my 1/2 sandwich. I love the ambiance - reminds me of the old Carnegie Deli in New York. Of the Jewish Delis still open in Chicago, Eleven City is my favorite.
