Shrimp and fish tacos
Anna H.

Best shrimp/fish tacos I've ever had. The shrimp were great quality with lots of flavor and the white fish was grilled to perfection. Prices were good as well. Definitely recommend this place.

Steak burrito

Ordered a steak burrito for pick up. Was ready in 5 mins. Friendly staff. Decent amount of seating inside. Got 3 hot sauces to try. Verde was the winner. Burrito was nicely seasoned. Almost a fine dice of the beef which I like. No chewy bits. All in all a good burrito.

Taqueria El Costeño - Chicago, IL: The Carne Asada Burrito That Will Ruin All Others for You I've eaten a lot of burritos in this city, but the carne asada burrito from Taqueria El Costeño just took the crown and ran away with it. This thing is a straight-up monster in the best possible way: a flour tortilla the size of a small spaceship, absolutely stuffed with juicy, perfectly grilled skirt steak that's been kissed by the plancha until it's lightly charred and exploding with flavor. Every bite has tender meat, creamy beans, fluffy rice, melted cheese, fresh cilantro, onion, and just enough salsa verde to keep things spicy and bright. The steak is so well seasoned you don't even reach for the hot sauce (though their roasted salsa roja and creamy avocado salsa are both worth drowning in). Portion size is borderline comical. One burrito could legitimately feed two normal humans, yet somehow I inhaled the whole thing without regret. And the price? I actually double-checked the receipt because it felt like 2010 again. Insane value. Everything comes out lightning fast, wrapped tight so nothing leaks, and the staff is genuinely friendly even when the line is out the door. Cash-only, BYOB cooler vibes, salsa bar stocked with limes and pickled carrots; this is the real-deal taqueria energy. If you leave Chicago without trying the carne asada burrito from El Costeño, you basically failed the mission. Hands-down one of the best in the city, maybe the country. I'm already craving another one. Five stars, zero notes, full stomach, happy heart. Go now go get one. You're welcome.

This is such a good place! Came around 4:30 for an early dinner and there was plenty of seating. The staff was so kind and fast. The food came out very quickly and it was so delicious. The inside is also very cute and the menu has many options to choose from. Can't wait to come back and try other dishes!

I love this place for a quick bite to eat. Very authentic. The staff is so nice. They seem by have their regulars because they already know some peoples orders. The place is nicely decorated.i got the sope dinner, 1 carne asada and 1 chicken. I'm usually weary of getting chicken but this was very good.

Wow. This is our new favorite place! Came across it while walking our dog. And this place did not disappoint. Food is fresh! Staff is friendly! Prices are fair! Great place and amazing food (like my grandma's). ONLY THING is they are NOT open on Sundays.

Tacos

This place is very yum! The tacos are decently portioned for the price and the meat was very flavorful. I ordered the asada lengua and pastor. I enjoyed all my tacos and the meat was very tender! The waitress serving me was very sweet and nice. I definitely want to come back and try a plate or their sopas. It's a good sized restaurant to accommodate parties to sit down and have a meal. Definitely stop by.

Delicious!! Second time trying this place and I loved it! Service is amazing. The owners make sure to make you feel welcomed. They are super kind and attentive. They easily accommodated our group of 5. I love how they have chips and salsa. The salsa has amazing flavor and the chips are nice and crunchy without being greasy. Nice size of a menu with a lot of variety. My favorite things to get are the platters/platillos but the tacos are good too. The guisado de lengua is a MUST try. Lengua is tender and is soaked with a fresh green salsa. The rice and beans remind me of home and the side salad is a nice touch. The fresh aguas are good too-not too sweet. The restaurant is very clean and neat. My sister even made a comment about how clean the bathroom is. It's in the perfect location right off the damen stop. Parking wasn't an issue for me. My family absolutely loved this low key spot and we will definitely be back. I'm excited to show other friends this place too.

The food is always fresh and delicious! Authentic mexican food. Employee have been nothing but nice and professional. The restaurant a small restaurant but decorated very nice and is always clean. I've had their tacos, burritos, tortas, burgers, and everything is always cooked perfectly. I'd recommend coming here!

Veggie burrito with no sour cream

Excellent customer service. Great staff. Amazing food! Oh my goodness I had no idea how delicious it was gonna be. I ordered a veggie burrito and my husband ordered a steak burrito. Both items were very flavorful, fresh, and made with care. As someone who grew up eating homemade traditional Mexican food, this place for sure gets 5 stars and a thumbs up.

(inquire about the 4% service charge added) No rice or beans with any of my parties' dishes, not sure if that is an option. Time to be seated was less than five minutes for a party of four around 2:20 PM on a Sunday; busier times or days enforce their 90 minute time limit policy per table. The food was well seasoned, wish I tasted it a little more on the meat itself, yet all the vegetables tasted crisp and fresh. If you are looking to have intimate conversations be prepared to speak a lot louder, the DJ booth by the front keeps it pretty lively, but difficult to hold conversations across the table. Open authentic Mexican soda is always refreshing, and if you're looking for a place that has soft serve margaritas this is one of them. If you notice and unusual wait time or slow service please make your choice accordingly as I started to notice it was a case by case basis like some of the previous reviews had mentioned.

We got the mixed shrimp and steak fajita as the fajita Friday would give us a $5 discount. The fajita gives you a great fire show! However, if we didn't catch the server prepare the first few seconds, we would've missed it, so a heads up would've been appreciated. It felt a bit rushed. The steak and shrimp were solid but for $33 before tax and tip, it is a bit steep. However, the amount of food is good enough for 2 people for a light satisfying meal. I docked off a few stars because while the food is good, service really needs improvement. We had no utensils for 15 minutes. We had to flag the server a few times, nowhere to be found. They didn't even end up discounting the $5 and with how hard it is to get attention from a server, I had to force to leave no tip in the end to make up for the difference, in addition to the very poor service. For near closing when it's not busy, it's not acceptable to not be attended to during the dining service especially we had to leave the food cold waiting for utensils to even start eating.

I must admit that I had low expectations because quite frankly, I have not enjoyed Mexican food outside of Mexico or California. However, we were hungry, and it was near where we were staying, so I decided we should check it out, and I am so glad we did! The food was great. Both adults and the VERY picky children in our group all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the green chicken enchiladas and the other adult ordered a chile relleno combo, which I also got to try. Everything was delicious and devoured by all! We were so full but the owner talked us into the chocoflan, and we did not regret trying it. It was soooo good! Speaking of the owner, the service was great. We really enjoyed how he and the rest of the staff were very courteous. It is a small establishment, and it gets a good amount of people, so I assume that there are waits during peak hours. I highly recommend Sabroso! And we plan to return the next time we are in the area.

We came later on a Monday night so we did not have to wait to get a seat although it was still pretty busy. The place is decorated nicely. Well on a block with many other Mexican businesses. Spicy and bitterness of the chocolate balanced super well. rice was also cooked perfectly. The shredded beef dish was short rib and mashed potatoes. They were meant to be assembled into a homemade tortilla - a very interesting concept. The homemade tortillas were so warm and fluffy. I have never had such good tortillas. I took a tamale plate home. It was large and had a good portion of shredded pork. Super flavorful, but also I felt the texture might've been firmer than I would've expected.
