I don't usually leave reviews, but my experience was so amazing that I had to let the staff and the world, know. On a random Thursday, my business partner and I decided to grab lunch/happy hour to catch up. I specifically wanted to support a Black-owned business, and she instantly said, "Soul Vibez." As a frequent TikTok viewer, I was excited to finally try it. We arrived right when they opened at 1 PM and were seated in a small cozy booth in the back. Our server came over cheerful and welcoming, asking if we'd had a chance to look at the menu. I told her it was my first time, and she smiled even bigger, sharing all her favorite drinks and how to get the best value. We decided on a tequila flight (blueberry, leche, and strawberry). She headed straight to the bar to make them herself and when I tell you EVERY drink was strong, fresh, and flavorful... I loved it! My business partner then whispered, "You know she's the owner, right?" I said, "No way!" She was so kind, down-to-earth, and personable. When she came back, she said, "Let's start with some appetizers," and recommended her favorites. We went with the deviled eggs with lobster bites and the jerk chicken egg rolls and they did NOT disappoint. Every bite was fresh and delicious. For our entrees, she again highlighted the top sellers and her personal favorites. We ordered the blackened catfish and the stuffed salmon. It didn't take long to come out, and when it did, it was beautifully presented and piping hot. Everything tasted incredible, and the service was consistent, fast, and genuine. The fact that the owner was our server made the experience even more special. I would've never known if my business partner hadn't told me. When we acknowledged it, she just smiled bright and said, "Thank you so much for being here and choosing us." I immediately replied, "See you soon, sis!" I will definitely be back. After seeing this place all over my Tik Tok, I knew that I had to visit Soul Vibes as soon as I landed in Chicago. Despite arriving close to closing time, the staff was very accommodating. For my drink, I had a Lychee Strawberry Margarita, which was really refreshing and tasty. For my entree, I had the chicken wings with mac and cheese and cornbread. While the wings were standard, the mac and cheese and cornbread didn't quite hit the mark. Mac wasnt giving baked mac. It just seemed like regular macaroni. Our waiter mentioned that since we arrived late, the dishes might not have been prepared as they typically would be. Since I came alone the bartender asked other guest would they mind if I took the empty seat between them and another party. The food was excellent! I couldn't write this review slowly enough, but it had to be written. I arrived at Soul Vibez 15 minutes after they opened and was seated immediately at the bar as a party of one. I placed my order right away when the bartender greeted me, hoping to ensure my food arrived in a timely manner. Not long after I was seated, I overheard the hostess telling newcomers that the wait was an hour and a half. Looking around, I noticed the bar and tables were full, with everyone waiting on their food. Over the next half-hour, I sat among three couples (parties of two) and watched as their food arrived, leaving my area in the center bare, begging for a plate to be placed in front of me. I remained patient. However, when the last couple near me--who had been seated and ordered after me--received their food, I began to feel tense. The bartender checked on them and assured me that my food was coming out next, which eased my tension momentarily. As more time passed, I noticed that everyone inside the restaurant had received their food except for me, including larger parties of six. They were even taking ready-made plates of food to patrons seated outside on the patio who were waiting for to-go orders. I finally asked the bartender what was taking so long. She eventually brought out part of my food, but the hot honey and cornbread came out later. As I began eating, the rest of the bar closed out and left. The bartender offered to discount my bill due to the wait, which amounted to a measly $5 compared to the total of my original order, tax, and mandatory service charge. The food was fine, but the long wait time and the feeling of being undervalued as a customer diminished the experience. Let's not forget what soul food is meant to represent. It was my first time trying collard greens and omg it was so flavorful, juicy, and salty. The garlic mash was creamy, smooth, and garlicky. A 3 to 4 hour wait just to be seated is absolutely ridiculous. I genuinely don't understand the hype around restaurants that go viral but don't have the space or staff to accommodate large crowds. Waitress didn't give reassurance that the items may be delayed, she appeared after we all received our food asking was everything fine , sis it's too late , I'm bothered that you would put an 18% service charge for who and what , the men brought the food to the table . So basically we being charged for medicore service . Cake slice was thin $8 , banana Pudding was Pudding. Overall will I suggest it to others yes , because they will run sis for that 18% , me and mine just love to have a nice meal with no issues, so if it's a table of 4 all meals should come out together, if that's a problem it needs to be explained that food may take a minute. Overall the food was good , but the service left something to be desired for that 18%, plus I gave her an extra $20 for the dry service, probably wouldn't have but our uber was enroute. I didn't realize it until I got back to hotel why my bill was high like last summer electric bill .
