We visited Chicago briefly and looked up a last minute brunch spot on tik tok after a change in plans left a gap for a sit down meal. I am usually quite skeptical of tik tok viral spots but batter and berries kept coming up in every other video so we had to make a stop. We ordered: B.S. Brisket Hash $23.25- 12 hour coffee & ancho chili braised Brisket, caramelized onion, cheddar hash browns, fried egg, brown sugar ancho coffee sauce. 4/5 stars on this dish. We asked for our hash extra crispy. It came well done with cheesy goodness. The egg was cooked over easy, per request. The brisket was filling, and packed with flavor. This dish can be shared as it's a very generous portion. They do not shy out on the brisket here. I think the only thing stopping this dish from being a full 5 stars would be a nice sauce to accompany it. We found ourselves borrowing hot sauce from our other order, which was the : Cluck-N-Gaufre (Goof) $19- Sweet potato waffle, stuffed with bits of fried chicken, topped with a buttermilk herb-fried chicken breast & nutmeg hot sauce. 5/5 stars. I've had many-a-chicken n' waffles from many different cities. This is the first time I've come across a sweet potato waffle. I've seen the stuffed waffle concept, but what separated this dish from its competitors was the slight details that add to the overall taste. For starters, the chicken was JUICY and CRISPY. two opposite sensations that not many can master the art of encompassing in one succulent piece of meat. It was well seasoned on its own, but paired with the nutmeg hot sauce it shined. Despite the big piece of chicken, the waffle did not hold back on the shredded pieces in there. The maple butter was that other decadent profile that popped in there. I requested syrup with mine, and this dish was mind blowing in the simplicity, yet tasteful execution of flavors. For drinks we ordered some tea. Our server, Maya, showed us the array of fresh blends they offer. The displayed jars are available for smell tests to aid your decision making. The iced teas here are also freshly steeped and prepared in house. The peppermint blend was exquisite. Maya was a great host for our first restaurant in Chicago. She was pleasant, attentive, asked about allergies, and eagerly shared specials and recommendations. I was never missing anything, and was quickly accommodated for any request I had. Our server name was Hailie (I'm hoping I spell her name right) but she was great. We ordered the French toast flight, traditional breakfast, a piece of fried catfish, a breakfast wrap and side of fruit. On the flight, I preferred the blueberry French toast! The lemon was creamy, but I think if I used syrup it would've been top tier. I absolutely loved the lemon. It had to be my favorite flavor, but I truthfully loved them all and really enjoyed the different types. I also got a side of eggs and chicken breast. I requested a chicken breast rather than strips and they were able to accommodate me my boyfriend had an omelette. This was my second visit to Batters and Berries, and my first at their new State Street location. My sister had gone earlier in the week and loved it. We came on a Sunday expecting a long wait, but were seated in under 10 minutes. That's where the good part ended. Our table was directly under a freezing A/C vent--so strong it blew napkins and plasticware off the table. We told our server, who admitted it's a frequent complaint, but nothing could be done. Within seconds of our food arriving, everything--eggs, hash browns, chicken, and French toast--went cold. The coffee cooled immediately. I asked to move and have my food remade. Sadly, most items were just reheated. The eggs were chewy and browned at the bottom, the chicken dry, and the hash browns bland (especially without cheese). The French toast was slightly better after being warmed but still underwhelming. Also, I was initially served plastic utensils--for a $40+ meal. Real silverware came later, but by then, the food was already a miss. My sister enjoyed the French toast flight (especially lemon and strawberry), and our friend liked the salmon croquettes. But even they said the food could've been warmer. The worst part? Minutes after we moved, another group was seated at that same cold table--and started complaining too. Stop by this place on the way home from work, decided to get dinner for the family. As I walked in, I observed the female cashier arguing with a customer. She was very rude and reported that she does not work for the customer she works for the Restaurant. The young man asked to speak to the manager, and the manager ignored the customer. The customer reported waiting 45 minutes for a meal and all employees served others instead of the customer. Myself and other customers apologized for the behavior of the employees but the young man appeared frustrated, but did not want to cause a scene. The young man said that he didn't want to say anything because they may do something to his food. This is the worst place that I've ever walked into and there's no customer service satisfaction. FINALLY, A PANCAKE BREAKFAST PLACE IN THE SOUTH LOOP near McCormick convention center. There may be a wait of 15 to 30mins if you're coming during peak hours noon-1pm, as the place is not that big. The food is your typical breakfast place (a step up from Denny's and Original Pancake House). The menu is short, but sweet . As we were in a rush, we ordered The Traditional - typical two eggs, cheese with hashbrowns and your choice of bacon, ham, portobello mushrooms (not your typical option). PRO TIP: never order scrambled as the cracked eggs are usually sitting in a bucket for who knows how long. Instead, order "eggs over hard", which is basically scrambled except they use fresh eggs. I also recommend ordering the bacon instead of the sausage patties , and asked for "well done", because they're not very crispy as they are on the thick side. Also, if you want crispy hashbrowns, skip the cheese as it made the hashbrowns gooey and soggy. They do ask you whether you want the hashbrowns with the cheese or not when you're ordering it, so pay attention. The Customer service was friendly. I thought I'd try a neighborhood restaurant for lunch since I was at the McCormick Place convention center. It was a hot day and the walk was only 10 minutes, although the empty lots and storage places did not make it scenic. When I arrived there were several open tables and the host asked if I could sit at the counter or needed a table. I have physical limitations and needed the table, which was small and for 2. I don't know if that caused annoyance of the staff, but the host seated me with a menu and left. I decided on my order and, waited. And waited. No offer of water or coffee. The server tended casually to tables nearby without eye contact. I waited more. It didn't seem unusually busy. They didn't seem understaffed. The server checked condiments at the counter, ignoring me. I pulled out my water bottle to have a drink. It was REALLY hot that day. I finally realized that at this point, having not been acknowledged by the server, let alone ordered, that it was likely my food would arrive very slowly and I would miss my session back at McCormick without having had lunch. So I politely stood and left. No one met my eye or asked if I needed anything. It was the strangest experience I've had in a restaurant. They also had no jelly for the toast and no orange juice!!! How can you be a breakfast spot with no spinach, no jam/jelly and no orange juice.
