The service was fast even though it was busy. They definitely put an interesting spin to a breakfast plate. I really enjoyed my omelet covered with turkey sausage and gravy. It was like a party in my mouth. The server and manager were super attentive and pleasant.
Came on a Tuesday at noon. Was seated right away. Took a minute to place my order. Took even longer to get my food. Omelet was different from.what im.used to. Meat and veggie was outside it. But it was good. Its was very salty. The spinach was also very salty but I still ate. The French toast flight was good 7/10. Over all 7/10
Too model spot!! My friend and I enjoyed brunch before going to Chicago Navy Pier. Batter and Berries is Bn on the bus line to Navy Pier when traveling from the city's South Side. I'm not a French toast fan; however, I loved the maple Syrup French toast. Everything, including the coffee, was on point. I had bacon, hash browns, and eggs to go with the flight. The servers were attentive, and everything was great. I'm definitely going back for the French toast; I believe it's probably the only place I'll eat French toast!! The space is magical, with its large windows and open layout. They did it well. I recommend eating here; you won't be disappointed!
My boyfriend and I pulled up on a Friday afternoon for some brunch and we found a crowd outside waiting for tables. We joined the waitlist and were seated all within 25 minutes. We visited Chicago briefly and looked up a last minute brunch spot on tik tok after a change in plans left a gap for a sit down meal. I am usually quite skeptical of tik tok viral spots but batter and berries kept coming up in every other video so we had to make a stop. We ordered: B.S. Brisket Hash $23.25- 12 hour coffee & ancho chili braised Brisket, caramelized onion, cheddar hash browns, fried egg, brown sugar ancho coffee sauce. 4/5 stars on this dish. We asked for our hash extra crispy. It came well done with cheesy goodness. The egg was cooked over easy, per request. The brisket was filling, and packed with flavor. This dish can be shared as it's a very generous portion. They do not shy out on the brisket here. I think the only thing stopping this dish from being a full 5 stars would be a nice sauce to accompany it. We found ourselves borrowing hot sauce from our other order, which was the : Cluck-N-Gaufre (Goof) $19- Sweet potato waffle, stuffed with bits of fried chicken, topped with a buttermilk herb-fried chicken breast & nutmeg hot sauce. 5/5 stars. I've had many-a-chicken n' waffles from many different cities. This is the first time I've come across a sweet potato waffle. I've seen the stuffed waffle concept, but what separated this dish from its competitors was the slight details that add to the overall taste. For starters, the chicken was JUICY and CRISPY. two opposite sensations that not many can master the art of encompassing in one succulent piece of meat. It was well seasoned on its own, but paired with the nutmeg hot sauce it shined. Despite the big piece of chicken, the waffle did not hold back on the shredded pieces in there. The maple butter was that other decadent profile that popped in there. I requested syrup with mine, and this dish was mind blowing in the simplicity, yet tasteful execution of flavors. For drinks we ordered some tea. Our server, Maya, showed us the array of fresh blends they offer. The displayed jars are available for smell tests to aid your decision making. The iced teas here are also freshly steeped and prepared in house. The peppermint blend was exquisite. Maya was a great host for our first restaurant in Chicago. She was pleasant, attentive, asked about allergies, and eagerly shared specials and recommendations. I was never missing anything, and was quickly accommodated for any request I had. Very importantly to me, she touched the table in an adequate amount of time after food was dropped off. She hit all the points for me as far as service. Overall, this place is definitely worth the hype. Everyone in there seemed happy and enjoying their meal. The employees seem to enjoy working there (or at least they play it off really well) because from the host, to our server, to the people floating and helping out, every exchange was pleasant.
This franchise came highly recommended by everyone we asked for breakfast recommendations from. This location was close to our hotel, and within walking distance. Our server name was Hailie (I'm hoping I spell her name right) but she was great. We ordered the French toast flight, traditional breakfast, a piece of fried catfish, a breakfast wrap and side of fruit. On the flight, I preferred the blueberry French toast! The lemon was creamy, but I think if I used syrup it would've been top tier. The catfish was fried to perfection, and they had a homemade hot sauce or buffalo sauce that was paired with it, it was soooo good!! The rest of the meal was good, typical breakfast items. I would try the franchise again if back in Chicago for sure.
The menu was impressive and the brisket hash was a VERY BIG piece of brisket atop some hash browns with eggs. The orange juice was Sunny D. The place is VERY loud - lots of hard surfaces. We would have enjoyed the French toast more if it weren't burnt.
I had been wanting to try this spot and finally planned ahead to put myself on the waitlist beforehand LOL! And I'm so glad I did because the food here was phenomenal. The French toast flight was the perfect way to try their different flavors, but my favorites were the lemon and the blueberry - well balanced, not too sweet. I also got the crab cakes and I was surprised by how generous they were with the crab! The side eggs were fluffy, hashbrowns were crispy, and homemade hot sauce was tangy. The busy and lively vibe was perfect for a weekend brunch, can't wait to visit again soon!
Batter & Berries just doesn't miss! Enjoyed the specialty omelette they had during my visit in May. Everything was SO good we had to go back twice before we left Chicago to head back home. The French toast flight is great especially if you want to taste multiple and is great for easy sharing. We definitely appreciated the service each time. Its waiters during our visits were accommodating and attentive to our needs/requests. Very casual ambiance and great for couples or families. During both visits there wasn't a long wait so we were thankful!
I came to batter and berries to enjoy some breakfast and they did not disappoint. I had the flight of French toast and it was perfect. I love that I was able to try every flavor. I absolutely loved the lemon. It had to be my favorite flavor, but I truthfully loved them all and really enjoyed the different types. I also got a side of eggs and chicken breast. I requested a chicken breast rather than strips and they were able to accommodate me my boyfriend had an omelette. I believe it was the green city one I'm not 100% sure but he really enjoyed it as well. It was a casual dining restaurant and the service was quick and they were very polite. I would recommend this place and for sure would return when I'm back in town.

The last time I was here I stumbled upon it's original location and the breakfast left me mind blown. The French toast flight will make you think twice about your diet... The place is small, intimate and welcoming to complement their amazing food. Their staff is always fast and attentive make it so you feel like you're having breakfast at your local diner.
It started out with a FREE street parking spot (the whole area out front is unmetered) so we were excited that this will be an easy place to revisit. The interior is bright and sunny and we were greeted warmly. There were a bunch of specials but because it was our first visit, we wanted to try the regular menu. The French toast flight and breakfast wrap came out and looked awesome. They tasted great as well. Portions were good sized and everything was served quickly. Service was really kind and genuine. We will definitely return!
We came in with 10 people and were able to be seated right away. The waiter was great. The French toast flights were amazing. A few people got those, most everyone got French toast of some sort. I had the bourbon apple pie French toast 1/2 order. It was delicious! The whipped butter with maple syrup (I think) was really good. We didn't need butter or syrup on the French toast, but had to have some of the butter on it because it was so good. This place was just a little cramped but was constant with people coming in/out. If in the area again, I would definitely go back.

This bright and cozy breakfast eatery is a neighborhood gem. They're known for their decadent French toast flights which look incredible. I, however, was seeking something a bit more diet friendly. My meal did not disappoint. I ordered the Traditional Breakfast, substituting an oh-so-tasty portabella mushroom for breakfast meet. So good! The deconstructed chicken fajita omelette has somehow gotten even better!!! Omg, the garlic butter and herb seasoning blend is a winner winner chicken dinner. My eggs were cooked perfectly and with plenty of cheddar cheese. I have never been to this location, but I'm glad I stopped in. The parking was pretty easy at 1pm, though it is metered. It's been a few years since I've been to batter and berries, but this location is great for me, and I cannot wait to comeback! read more

Chicken and Waffles were perfect! The waffle is lightly sweet with cinnamon like spices. The chicken breast has a mild herb seasoning the hot sauce I got on the side and it was perfect for dipping the chicken breast. There are small pieces of chicken inside the waffle. Good serving size for $20. My boyfriend also got a side dish that came with a salmon croquette, a shrimp with a jambalaya omelette and brownie French toast. It was a small serving size for $30. The service was ok and the wait was only 15 minutes at the most. (It wasn't crowded) Ambiance was nice, it's a small restaurant probably could use some decorating. read more

Disappointing. Server offered Catfish only to learn they did not have any. While the French Toast flight was tasty, I had to send it back due to every piece being cold. They put it in the microwave to reheat it. I would not return or recommend. read more

Batter & Berries offers an incredible dining experience, though street parking can be tricky since they are usually busy. Be sure to ask your server about their secret, off-menu options. The seafood omelet and pancakes are absolutely awesome and highly recommended! Not a huge resturant however plenty of space id definitely call ahead if its weekend. read more

I actually liked the food here. We got there as soon as it opened but it got busy really fast. A friend of mine invited me to come and told us getting there right at open is the best time to beat the crowds. It fills up fast and I did see people wait for a long time. It does get loud like your typical eatery and definitely wait a bit more than usual, this is not a fast food place. Now for the food, I liked the French Toast Flight that was recommended to me. The Toadt had a nice subtle crunch, wasn't overly sweet, didn't feel too heavy after biting in, and the presentation was great. I didn't mind the wait as I chatted for awhile. Didn't try anything else though, but honestly I liked it. I guess the only downside is the wait time. Overall get here early for the best experience. read more

Batters & Berries on State Street is a newer spot with a good vibe. It was a bit crowded, so there was a short wait, but once seated the service was great...our waiter was helpful with food suggestions It's BYOB Food wise, the jerk chicken was tasty (though not spicy), and the salmon croquettes were decent but a little salty in my opinion (I'm picky because my mom makes the best). My friend preferred the croquettes, while I leaned toward the jerk chicken. The French toast flight was the highlight for me..every flavor was good, but the caramel was amazing. I also love that the restaurant is Black owned, with a fun purple & yellow theme tied to the owner's fraternity. Overall: great service, good food read more

Came here to enjoy a delicious breakfast and support our local businesses/ people to celebrate our month of February after running in the Miles Per Hour race at the Auto Show. What a pleasant surprise ! We were seated right away, service was great, food selection was awesome and everything was delicious ! Would highly recommended this spot anytime you are visiting the area if you want a great meal with a smile in a relaxed setting (without the boujee attitude or atmosphere )! If you follow me, you know how I feel about Batters & Berries. It's a no-brainer - whenever I am in Chicago, we're going. I think having rotating French toast flavors is one of the most brilliant ideas, and when they are executed like Batters & Berries does - it's surely a treat. I won't go too in depth on my review, because it's biased, I've already done one and I LOVE THIS PLACE, but we did stop in for my best friends Bachelorette Brunch at the new location on State Street and had a ball. Parking was a breeze, the new location is also a bit more spacious, with plenty of seating and the familiar warm vibes of the others. Our server was as sweet as pie and that Peach Cobbler French Toast with the catfish plate on the side...to die for. The flavors are immaculate, we brought our own bottle to pop because we are no stranger to the BYOB policy and truly had an enjoyable time 10/10 NO NOTES - ever. This place fills up fast! The French toast flight is a great way to try all them all. I liked the strawberry one the best. I wish the brisket in my brisket hash were a bit more tender, but the flavor in the sauce was absolutely delicious. I think the cheesy hash was my favorite part of the meal! I don't recommend this place!!! Our waitress was awesome!! She was not the reason for this poor review. The inside is so cute but we were very quickly dissatisfied. My friend and I ordered breakfast sandwiches and they got my order wrong. I asked for ham but received bacon. I told our waitress and she took it back to the kitchen, apologized, and then got my food around 10 minutes later. Mind you, it took like 30 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Also, the eggs made my friend and I sick. We asked for them scrambled but they were very runny. My friend couldn't even finish them and I had a stomach ache later on. Make sure you check in with the host if you get in the yelp waiting line!! Normally I will receive a text saying "your table is ready, please see host" but my text said "please check in with host upon arrival." This was just a misunderstanding on my part so I wasn't too upset. I'm more disappointed with the over priced food, wait times for service, and the quality/accuracy of the food. Batters and Berries - 2318 S. State Street (2 out of 5 stars) "Seated fast, served cold--hoping for better next time." Sometimes, you just gotta be honest. This was my second visit to Batters and Berries, and my first at their new State Street location. My sister had gone earlier in the week and loved it. We came on a Sunday expecting a long wait, but were seated in under 10 minutes. That's where the good part ended. Our table was directly under a freezing A/C vent--so strong it blew napkins and plasticware off the table. We told our server, who admitted it's a frequent complaint, but nothing could be done. Within seconds of our food arriving, everything--eggs, hash browns, chicken, and French toast--went cold. The coffee cooled immediately. I asked to move and have my food remade. Sadly, most items were just reheated. The eggs were chewy and browned at the bottom, the chicken dry, and the hash browns bland (especially without cheese). The French toast was slightly better after being warmed but still underwhelming. Also, I was initially served plastic utensils--for a $40+ meal. Real silverware came later, but by then, the food was already a miss. My sister enjoyed the French toast flight (especially lemon and strawberry), and our friend liked the salmon croquettes. But even they said the food could've been warmer. The worst part? Minutes after we moved, another group was seated at that same cold table--and started complaining too. I want to support Black-owned restaurants and see them thrive. But comfort and consistency matter. I'd give it another shot if they can make the proper adjustments. Batter and Berries offering a great menu of breakfast and lunch items. This is a busy spot on the weekends a really popular spot among the locals. It is a bustling cafe with both table and bar seating. I really enjoyed the food here. They are known for their French toast and I highly recommend getting their French toast flight. Four different flavored French toasts they were all delicious but really loved the strawberry French toast. The biscuits and gravy was delicious and the gravy was something on the likes I have never had before. Really flavorful and something truly unique. I couldn't possibly be any more impressed with Batter & Berries, they absolutely knock it out of the park. I got the poutine and the serving size was massive! I very rarely have leftovers and I took about half of it to go because I was so full. We also got the mini French toast flight and I would say it was the best French toast I've ever had from a restaurant. My favorite was the caramel, closely followed by the blueberry lemon. And the maple butter! My taste buds are still in heaven. The picture is partially through me going to town on the poutine, I was too excited to take a picture first. The owner also stopped by to talk with us and she was so kind and delightful! I won't come back to Chicago without coming back here! read more

FINALLY, A PANCAKE BREAKFAST PLACE IN THE SOUTH LOOP near McCormick convention center. There may be a wait of 15 to 30mins if you're coming during peak hours noon-1pm, as the place is not that big. The food is your typical breakfast place (a step up from Denny's and Original Pancake House). The menu is short, but sweet . As we were in a rush, we ordered The Traditional - typical two eggs, cheese with hashbrowns and your choice of bacon, ham, portobello mushrooms (not your typical option). PRO TIP: never order scrambled as the cracked eggs are usually sitting in a bucket for who knows how long. Instead, order "eggs over hard", which is basically scrambled except they use fresh eggs. I also recommend ordering the bacon instead of the sausage patties , and asked for "well done", because they're not very crispy as they are on the thick side. Also, if you want crispy hashbrowns, skip the cheese as it made the hashbrowns gooey and soggy. They do ask you whether you want the hashbrowns with the cheese or not when you're ordering it, so pay attention. The Customer service was friendly. The wait time on the food was a bit on the long side. Make sure to ask your server to check on the food because sometimes it's ready and waiting to be brought out. read more
