Chicken and waffles, shrimp jambalaya omelette, and brownie french toast
    Adele B.

Chicken and Waffles were perfect! The waffle is lightly sweet with cinnamon like spices. The chicken breast has a mild herb seasoning the hot sauce I got on the side and it was perfect for dipping the chicken breast. There are small pieces of chicken inside the waffle. Good serving size for $20. My boyfriend also got a side dish that came with a salmon croquette, a shrimp with a jambalaya omelette and brownie French toast. It was a small serving size for $30. The service was ok and the wait was only 15 minutes at the most. (It wasn't crowded) Ambiance was nice, it's a small restaurant probably could use some decorating.

Food was bomb, the wait not so much lol but I guess it comes with wanting quality food. The service was okay. It was very cool to see the mayor walk in. The place itself is just a regular restaurant and the ambiance seems good for anyone.

Food was good! Service was wonderful. The prices not so much. Somewhat on the expensive end for just breakfast.

I was recommended to try this brunch spot because it was close to our hotel in chicago. I was also excited because it was a black owned restaurant that the mayor frequence as well. However Once I arrived I was told that they were only taking to go orders due to some technical difficulties. So I decided to order my meal to go. I ordered their basic breakfast and requested my hash browns be extra crispy. The wait wasn't too long and I thought it was interesting that you had an option of a portabella mushroom instead of bacon. I chose to go with the chicken breast. Once my food was done I requested some condiments to go with the meal. I was not impressed with my hash browns as they were not as requested however the flavorfulness of the fried chicken breast was incredible! Unfortunately I found that the eggs and potatoes were mid at this. I would love giving the opportunity to try something else especially if the restaurant was fully open.

I actually liked the food here. We got there as soon as it opened but it got busy really fast. A friend of mine invited me to come and told us getting there right at open is the best time to beat the crowds. It fills up fast and I did see people wait for a long time. It does get loud like your typical eatery and definitely wait a bit more than usual, this is not a fast food place. Now for the food, I liked the French Toast Flight that was recommended to me. The Toadt had a nice subtle crunch, wasn't overly sweet, didn't feel too heavy after biting in, and the presentation was great. I didn't mind the wait as I chatted for awhile. Didn't try anything else though, but honestly I liked it. I guess the only downside is the wait time. Overall get here early for the best experience.

I couldn't possibly be any more impressed with Batter & Berries, they absolutely knock it out of the park. I got the poutine and the serving size was massive! I very rarely have leftovers and I took about half of it to go because I was so full. We also got the mini French toast flight and I would say it was the best French toast I've ever had from a restaurant. My favorite was the caramel, closely followed by the blueberry lemon. And the maple butter! My taste buds are still in heaven. The picture is partially through me going to town on the poutine, I was too excited to take a picture first. The owner also stopped by to talk with us and she was so kind and delightful! I won't come back to Chicago without coming back here!

This place fills up fast! The French toast flight is a great way to try all them all. I liked the strawberry one the best. I wish the brisket in my brisket hash were a bit more tender, but the flavor in the sauce was absolutely delicious. I think the cheesy hash was my favorite part of the meal! My meal was good, but quite oily as you can tell in the picture so took one star away.

Batters & Berries on State Street is a newer spot with a good vibe. It was a bit crowded, so there was a short wait, but once seated the service was great...our waiter was helpful with food suggestions It's BYOB Food wise, the jerk chicken was tasty (though not spicy), and the salmon croquettes were decent but a little salty in my opinion (I'm picky because my mom makes the best). My friend preferred the croquettes, while I leaned toward the jerk chicken. The French toast flight was the highlight for me..every flavor was good, but the caramel was amazing. I also love that the restaurant is Black owned, with a fun purple & yellow theme tied to the owner's fraternity. Overall: great service, good food

If you follow me, you know how I feel about Batters & Berries. It's a no-brainer - whenever I am in Chicago, we're going. I think having rotating French toast flavors is one of the most brilliant ideas, and when they are executed like Batters & Berries does - it's surely a treat. I won't go too in depth on my review, because it's biased, I've already done one and I LOVE THIS PLACE, but we did stop in for my best friends Bachelorette Brunch at the new location on State Street and had a ball. Parking was a breeze, the new location is also a bit more spacious, with plenty of seating and the familiar warm vibes of the others. Our server was as sweet as pie and that Peach Cobbler French Toast with the catfish plate on the side...to die for. The flavors are immaculate, we brought our own bottle to pop because we are no stranger to the BYOB policy and truly had an enjoyable time 10/10 NO NOTES - ever. We also may or may not have asked for a few containers of hotsauce for later

I don't recommend this place!!! Our waitress was awesome!! She was not the reason for this poor review. The inside is so cute but we were very quickly dissatisfied. My friend and I ordered breakfast sandwiches and they got my order wrong. I asked for ham but received bacon. I told our waitress and she took it back to the kitchen, apologized, and then got my food around 10 minutes later. Mind you, it took like 30 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Also, the eggs made my friend and I sick. We asked for them scrambled but they were very runny. My friend couldn't even finish them and I had a stomach ache later on. Make sure you check in with the host if you get in the yelp waiting line!! Normally I will receive a text saying "your table is ready, please see host" but my text said "please check in with host upon arrival." This was just a misunderstanding on my part so I wasn't too upset. I'm more disappointed with the over priced food, wait times for service, and the quality/accuracy of the food. Not worth it.

Batter and Berries offering a great menu of breakfast and lunch items. This is a busy spot on the weekends a really popular spot among the locals. It is a bustling cafe with both table and bar seating. I really enjoyed the food here. They are known for their French toast and I highly recommend getting their French toast flight. Four different flavored French toasts they were all delicious but really loved the strawberry French toast. The biscuits and gravy was delicious and the gravy was something on the likes I have never had before. Really flavorful and something truly unique. I had a great experience and I can't wait to dine here again.

Batters and Berries - 2318 S. State Street (2 out of 5 stars) "Seated fast, served cold--hoping for better next time." Sometimes, you just gotta be honest. This was my second visit to Batters and Berries, and my first at their new State Street location. My sister had gone earlier in the week and loved it. We came on a Sunday expecting a long wait, but were seated in under 10 minutes. That's where the good part ended. Our table was directly under a freezing A/C vent--so strong it blew napkins and plasticware off the table. We told our server, who admitted it's a frequent complaint, but nothing could be done. Within seconds of our food arriving, everything--eggs, hash browns, chicken, and French toast--went cold. The coffee cooled immediately. I asked to move and have my food remade. Sadly, most items were just reheated. The eggs were chewy and browned at the bottom, the chicken dry, and the hash browns bland (especially without cheese). The French toast was slightly better after being warmed but still underwhelming. Also, I was initially served plastic utensils--for a $40+ meal. Real silverware came later, but by then, the food was already a miss. My sister enjoyed the French toast flight (especially lemon and strawberry), and our friend liked the salmon croquettes. But even they said the food could've been warmer. The worst part? Minutes after we moved, another group was seated at that same cold table--and started complaining too. I want to support Black-owned restaurants and see them thrive. But comfort and consistency matter. I'd give it another shot if they can make the proper adjustments. For my personal experience 2 out of 5

Came here to enjoy a delicious breakfast and support our local businesses/ people to celebrate our month of February after running in the Miles Per Hour race at the Auto Show. What a pleasant surprise ! We were seated right away, service was great, food selection was awesome and everything was delicious ! Would highly recommended this spot anytime you are visiting the area if you want a great meal with a smile in a relaxed setting (without the boujee attitude or atmosphere )! We will definitely be back !

The soup was different from the standard pasta fagioli that I have had which seemed to be a cream based maybe cheese in it and beans no beef. But it was still good. I added a pinch of salt The pizza looked delicious as did the ice cream. I would have loved to try a beef as I haven't been here since I was a kid. Half of a large sandwich and I was stuffed. Leaving at about lunch time, I opened my Yelp app to see what was nearby. The top spouses ad (2.7 miles away) was Ricobene's. I really wasn't aware they were even around anymore. So, for nostalgic purposes, I decided to go there. Had my mother and aunt in tow, and we were all very pleased. The breaded steak, while still maybe not the greatest thing since sliced bread, was a nice blast from the past that I really enjoyed. Would I go there again? Surely. If I were 2.7 miles away (though uncle's been released and is back home doing fine). Do wanna try their Chicken Vesuvio again one day. But 22 miles each way just for that, not. Quick friendly service, and way cleaner than most hot dog joints and beef stands out my way. Few things make me miss Chicago, but this is one of them.

I believe I mentioned during ordering that we "do not get grinders like this in Cali" and they were kind enough to let us indoors (surely knowing this weather was nearly "Antarctic penguin cold" for us) while our order was being finished. I saw various jars of giardiniera and muffuletta and could not resist buying a couple. Our store associate kindly wrapped them well in plastic wrap to ensure safe travel back to Cali. They have won several awards for their sandwiches and are said to have the best Italian Beef in Chicago. With all this being said, this was certainly a must eat on my trip! Their menu consists of their famous Italian beef, along with Chicago dogs, burgers, sausage sandwiches, chicken, and fries. There is definitely something for everyone here. The inside is casual and reminiscent of a fast food eatery. Really liked the yellow accents throughout the restaurant. I will also note that it was extremely clean inside, which is always appreciated. Ordering is simple and they will call your ticket number when your food is ready. All the food is served made to order and very fresh and doesn't take too long to come out! I ordered the Regular Beef, wet, with both hot and spicy peppers per the workers suggestion. Ordering the sandwich wet simply means the bread is dunked in the gravy/aus jus. If you want the real deal, this is how you order it. The peppers are optional as well, but complete the sandwich. The sandwich consists of their famous Italian beef roasted and sliced, served on freshly baked French bread. I can see why this sandwich is so highly regarded. The Italian beef that is made in house each day is tender, flavorful, and just perfect! It isn't chewy or tough either. The sweet and spicy peppers paired nicely with the savory beef. And the fresh French bread covered in the gravy--phenomenal! The gravy adds a lot of flavor to the sandwich. You do have to eat it quickly, otherwise the bread will fall apart, oh but it is so worth it. I got fries with a side of cheese sauce to go with the sandwich. By far some of the best fries I've had. Not super crispy, but not soggy either, the texture was just right. They were salted perfectly and dipping them in their velvety cheese sauce was a treat! A regular sub is roughly 6 inches and quite filling. The sandwiches are stuffed with ample amounts of beef. The price is also excellent considering how much you get. Overall, I would say Al's Beef lived up to all its praise. My sandwich was very memorable and was like nothing I'd had before. Everything is so fresh, between their beef, bread, and fries, it is all made in house. This isn't just some fast food spot, it is an institution. I was impressed with everything I ordered, especially the fries. They take a lot of pride in what they serve. This is evident in their customer service. If you are visiting Chicago, don't think, just go--you won't regret it!

3-ish stars rounded up. The roast beef was a little on the dry-stringy side but the bread was…read morespongy-soft (absorbed the beef drippings so well!). Kinda skimpy on the fixings on the Chicago dog, but still gets the job done if you're craving a Chicago dog. Fries are the type that are greasy to the touch; not my fave style of fries but I know it's a well-liked one to others. Super friendly lady at the cashier (all smiles, patient, and offered menu help)! Also fast service (got my order within a few minutes). I visited on a Saturday late afternoon and it was very chill here (also shoutout to the early 2000's era music playing :p it was a vibe). Overall I'd say it's not a bad food spot at all if you want a quick bite and want to be a little away from the Magnificent Mile crowds.

On a busy Saturday, I decided to order ahead for myself and my hangry kids. We ordered Italian,…read moretuna and prosciutto subs. We also threw in an order of tiramisu and the large canoli. We were quoted a time of 20 minutes out. We arrived a little early and the gal at the counter told us it would be a few minutes. She called out when ready and sat at one of the tables in the front to eat. Each sub had a decent amount of filling. While we each offered the smallest subs, we were plenty full when we left. We enjoyed our subs and now have a place to add to our list for a new quick lunch. For the store itself, they have some odds and ends but many Italian staples. The counter and deli had a steady flow of customers in and out.

As I parked this large Chevy Suburban parked in front of me. As I sat in the car & saw one person after another unloaded & head towards Potbelly. In all I counted 8 guys unloading from this Suburban. & head to Potbelly. I'm like oh hell no. That's when I saw CONTE DI SAVOIA @ 1438 W Taylor Street on the north side of Taylor Street. I decided to cross over & check out this old world Italian Deli. Conti Di Savoia is small Italian grocery store w/an Italian deli that has w/outstanding & inexpensive sandwiches. When I went in there was a line of people waiting @ the deli counter waiting to place their order. I must have looked confused because the owner directed me & told the line started on the other side towards the back of the store. What I found was an awesome of fresh handmade sandwiches for a very reasonable price. I ordered an 8" pastrami w/mozzarella cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onions, mayo, & Italian oil drizzled. What I got was an awesome inexpensive sandwich loaded with/fresh ingredients. Absolutely delicious. After I got my sandwich the owner (I introduced myself (I think his name was Mike) rang up the sandwich. He said they have been there for 35 years. There's also a small dining area in the front of the store where I sat & devoured my sandwich. Like I said this is small Italian store w/a nice selection of products like meats, cheeses, pastas, wine, olive & deli items. I throughly enjoyed finding Conte Di Savoia. The pastrami sandwich was awesome w/a generous portion of pastrami & toppings for a reasonable price. I'm the type of person who who loves finding new places to eat. Most times unless I find great food & reasonable prices I won't go back but I feel like I found a real gem W/Conti Di Savoia. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AGAIN.
