Large establishment for seating. Great music and nice tvs to watch sports. The staff was friendly and attentive on a Friday early afternoon. I ordered the Epochal Maple Cognac and Honey Mustard Bourbon w/ Sesame Seeds. The server allowed me to do half and half. Paired, I ordered some truffle fries. The large wings bone in were LARGE. Like almost scary large. The flavor on the cognac wings really tasted like the liquor - so it packed a punch. The bourbon ones were sweeter. I enjoyed the flavors of each nonetheless. The truffle fries had a ton of truffle Parmesan on them. They did not skimp. I felt my food was freshly cooked for me and I didn't have to wait long. I wasn't a fan of paying $1.50 for blue cheese when the sever asked me which sauce I wanted to go with my wings. I could've done without also who charges for a sauce that is known to pair with wings?? I rated this establishment 4 stars for the price of the food. If you view the receipt, I paid $45 for wings and fries. In this economy, that's pretty pricey. I personally would only return for happy hour if I were in the neighborhood. I'm giving this place a two star review solely because of the staff. The funny, attentive, fun, competent staff. I've been coming to New Line for almost 10 years, and over the last year or so, I've noticed a significant decline in the experience. I wasn't going to say anything about it but today was the tip of the iceberg- literally. I came to New Line during the January '26 polar vortex. When I sat down, the bar tender told me to not even bother taking off my jacket, because the heat was broken. Keep in mind this was a New Line specific issue, not a building issue. It was a little funny at first, but I tried to tough out for 2 drinks and I actually had to leave because it was so cold. I felt sooo bad for the staff who had to work in unfair and impossible conditions- as someone who only sat there for an hour and had to tap out, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have to work an entire shift with a smile. This had been going on all day, but by 5:30p there hadn't even been an attempt from the owners to fix the situation with space heaters, or to close the restaurant out of respect for their staff not working in unworkable conditions. As a long time patron, I'm incredibly disappointed in the ownership for how they treated their staff today. Money never wins over humanity, and it would be a shame to watch New Line continue down that path. read more

We visited for the Nightmare Bar popup for Halloween and we were a little disappointed. The decor and the vibe was immaculate, it was super cute for pictures and fun to look at all the decorations. The cast for the Nightmare Bar was incredibly nice - welcoming, kind, fun, interactive, and stuck to character! That said, the entertainment was a little strange. There was a scary story monologue but we couldn't hear anything over the noise of the regular side of the bar and the background music. There was Halloween movie trivia, except it was a quiz sheet that they then took to be graded. The seating ended in open mic karaoke but no one in our time slot wanted to do it so the performers did all of the singing. This would be fine, but at this point, my friend and I just wanted to chat and the performer kept sneaking behind us to spook us or force us to pay attention to the singing. It was just a little weird, I think it would've been better if it was more committed, with better sound and a dedicated stage area. The most irksome part was that there was only one waitress for the popup area so she didn't take our drink order until the last 10 minutes of the seating. This was also past the happy hour time (despite our arrival well before the happy hour cutoff) so we opted not to get any food since it wasn't honored. They also had all of the TVs on in the popup area which kind of ruined the immersive experience and was a little overstimulating. They had multiple channels on, too, so there was sports, news, Jeopardy, all going on while the performers were trying to hold our attention. It was not my favorite Halloween popup this year but I do think it has potential to be a really cool experience in the future. read more

I went here after a concert, and I was lucky to arrive when I did because they were on the verge of closing the kitchen. Online it said that they close the kitchen at 12am; however they were about to close it about 30 mins early the night I came. The security and waiter rushed our order to the kitchen so we could eat. The service was good. It was nice on the inside. Kind of small, but they had available seating for us which is all I cared about. We all ordered wings and fries. The fries were okay nothing to write home about, but they were satisfactory. The wings were good! I got the garlic Parmesan wings, which is my go to flavor. The sauce on the wings was delicious with the right mix of cheese and garlic. The wings were HUGE. If you do not like big wings, I don't recommend ordering them. They are truly jumbo. It comes as an order of 8, but I could only finish 5.5. Mind you, these are not whole wings. Overall, I would come back and eat here. The food was good, and I enjoyed myself. This was my first time coming to New Line Tavern. A big shoutout to Mario and crew for handling all orders from the private event. The drinks were made perfectly and the food was DELICIOUS. I ordered the catfish and grits. The space was large enough to accommodate the large party and it was clean the staff came in timely manner to remove all trash and used plates. I came here for a work-sponsored happy hour. There's pretty much nothing I love more than eating and drinking on someone else's dime and New Line Tavern was happy to oblige. They've got a great selection of drinks, whether on tap or in a bottle. There's also plenty of classic bar food staples which were pretty good. It does get pretty crowded after work. Its proximity to the loop and trains out of Chicago means it's very commuter friendly. read more

Service was fast! That's about the best thing I can say. Our fries were soggy, not our fave. But that's more of a personal preference. The en fuego wings were not as advertised. When we got our food, most of the boxes were flipped upside down. I'd go elsewhere if you wanted good wings. read more

I was unaware that nearly every bar in the neighborhood surrounding Daly Plaza was closed on Sundays, so thank goodness for this bastion of refuge! We needed to kill some time with family, and this was the perfect spot. It wasn't terribly busy at the time, we were consistently checked on to make sure our drinks were never empty, and the staff were really friendly. Drinks were great, and our server helped with recommendations, and we also ordered truffle fries. Those were so crispy and fresh that I could have eaten the full order myself! I loved the atmosphere- kind of dark, lots of wood, reminiscent of the old dive bars back home. Only this place had a little more character and was incredibly clean. Ladies will appreciate that the restroom was about 10 degrees warmer than the bar itself, and clean as a whistle. We were able to maximize our catch-up time with family because this place was just a block or two from Oglive Station. No chance of missing the train back home! I'd drop in if you're in the area. I'm definitely thinking about stopping in again on our next visit to Chicago. It's really just a great spot to relax before a 90 minute train ride. read more

Bartenders are great, but I usually pop in to get food to go and about 1/2 the time the order is wrong. Today? Manager (I think) brought my food out. I'd asked for an extra dressing for my full-sized salad as they often only include one small cup of dressing. I got no dressing. Thankfully I was home and was fine, but there are so many mistakes on food. If you get food there to go, double check your order for what's missing. I'd like dressing for a $16 salad. read more

After a long day of working this place was close to my hotel and not ridiculously crowded. Bartender was attentive and detailed, burger was absolutely. I'm conflicted posting this review. The staff is mostly amazing and the food is certainly better than your average bar food. That said, I question the ethics of the current ownership. A resident in the 176 unit building purchased a $50 certificate for our maintenance guys. Well deserved. They work their tails off. One took his certificate over for a burger and they would not issue a balance. They basically stole the rest of the value and told him so sorry, that's our policy under the new ownership. The maintenance guys refuse to go back and they may not realize how beloved these guys are in the building and how many times they have shared this story with residents. As a result of this action, I seldom visit any longer. I believe many residents across the street chose other eating options also. I believe their actions speak volumes on a lack of ethics by ownership. Based on this incident, I encourage all of our residents to patronize restaurants who cater to the neighborhood clientele and to NEVER buy a gift certificate from New Line, EVER. Pitty. read more

Cool tavern not very far from Union Station so it's convenient to get to for commuters. It has the usual stuff like lots of good drinks, and the food isn't bad either. New Line Tavern is a classy looking place but it's real chill actually so just come and relax. Has a few TVs at the bar. The prices are okay considering the other restaurants close to here charge even more for similar kinds of stuff. I came in with the girl a little while ago. It was at night and it wasn't quite as busy. There were a couple people at the bar watching games but otherwise it was pretty quiet. Lots of good drinks. We tried a few and would have gotten more if these weren't expensive. I had an Old Fashioned Chicago. It's $11 for most of the cocktails. This one is made with Evan Williams mixed with angostura bitters, cherry bitters, Demerara syrup, luxardo cherries, orange bitters, and orange peel. It sure has a lot of bitters! These bitters didn't make the drink bitter though. Because we had eaten fairly recently and weren't that hungry we got some of the lighter fare. We got the House Made Pretzels. It's about $9.50 for two big ones that are enough for a couple diners. These come with beer cheese, but if you want non dairy, they make a very good house mustard. Good place to hang out and have some drunken fun. It also has trivia nights. The prices are good compared to the nearby rip off restaurants. read more

My fiancée and I are always looking to get delivery from new places around the city, and we were both pleasantly surprised with New Line Tavern - we really enjoyed it! We ordered the fish tacos, the chicken caesar salad, and the skillet cookie. Everything was really good and the portion sizes were generous! With the fish tacos you can choose to get a different filling for each taco (the options being beer battered cod, tilapia, or shrimp) but I got all three of mine as beer battered cod. It was a great choice and it tasted very fresh. The one thing I felt could be improved was that the tacos were pretty dry so they could have used more sauce or served them with a side of tomatillo salsa or something like that. I also really liked how the tacos came with a side of fries, very tasty, and I chose to pay an extra $1 for New Line Fries. Highly recommend! The salad was great with generous amounts of chicken! No complaints from us! And the skillet cookies was AMAZING! Sooooo good, we both felt it was one of the best we've had. We didn't realize it was served with ice cream, whipped cream, and a caramel drizzle so it was so nice to see the little pint they included. All in all, the food was great, the order was accurate, and the portions were generous. We will definitely be ordering again! read more

What a fun little bar! Right off the Green line Clinton Stop - super easy to get to. We were (thankfully, I might add) able to enjoy the afternoon drinking at New Line on the 4th of July. Seems like a great menu, decent cocktail and spirits selection. Enough beer to keep the locals happy and the bar service was great. Only complaint came from my husband - his beer wasn't very cold. I noticed that the pounder glasses weren't chilled. I was drinking Guinness, so I appreciated the room temp glass - but he was drinking pale ales, so I kind of get it. Big TVs that had the Cubs playing. I'm not sure what this place looks like on a regular day - not sure if there are servers in the seated area or if you have to order at the bar. I have never even thought about leaving a bad review until now. For context, my bar for "good service" involves saying hello and asking me what I want, and the bartender here couldn't even achieve that. A friend and I walked in and sat for an easy five minutes while the bartender walked back and forth without even acknowledging us despite there only being four other people at the bar, all of whom already had drinks. After we managed to flag down a *different* employee we got our drinks and then weren't acknowledged again until we waved down someone to pay. I don't mind unfriendly service, but there's no reason to have to chase someone down to get served. Cocktail was decent but not worth the hassle. read more

We sit at the bar and my friend asked what soups were available, the bartender, who seemed to be the only person on staff, waiting on tables as well as bartending, said "hey speak up, this isn't a library guys." A ranch lovers MUST! It's my favorite after work bar for a quick drink and delicious dinner, but when I discovered their ranch is made in-house from SCRATCH I just new this place was special. I have been coming here for years, typically for after work drinks with colleagues and something to nosh on, and yesterday I had a beer lunch - with food, but I had two pints of Stella to wash it down. I just love this place, I am posting a pic of the menu. Very Chicago taproom type of food, so not the healthiest. I never had the tacos so the shrimp tacos surprised the heck out of me. Surprisingly really good food and decent drinks! And they're reasonably priced which makes it the perfect place to meet up after work with friends. Don't expect this to be some hip and trendy bar. This is a no frills, you get what you see, type of place. The inside is small and they offer a row of outdoor seating. The best part--it's never overly packed, just right. If you're meeting up, make sure to order the cheese curds and chicken buffalo dip. Both were excellent and were gone within seconds. People also ordered the fish tacos, truffle fries and pretzel bites... all were eaten quickly and without complaints. Long story short-- it's a good, after work, neighborhood bar. Trivia is so much fun! They have daily specials and the one for Sunday night trivia is happy hour wings and sliders. The wings are ginormous! When they say jumbo wings they weren't kidding around. I expected 8 wings so go super quickly but each one was probably the size of 3 normal wings. I also ordered pretzels and the ahi tuna salad, both of which were pretty good! I love trivia, and would've given this more stars but everything just seemed to take such a long time! Trivia lasted for over 2 hours when it could've taken 1 hour. Also it seemed like they only had one waitress on staff that night and she was super busy running around trying to take care of everything that all our orders and bill paying took forever. read more
