We ended up hosting an event with a guest list of 120+ family and friends, and Adrian, the general manager, truly guided us in the right direction from the very beginning of the planning process. On the day of the event, Adrian and his staff absolutely delivered. Had Valentine's dinner here with friends and the ambiance was very friendly and open. One of the servers was really helpful when we mentioned the lights were flickering and a bit distracting during our time there -- appreciated that he took it seriously. Food was great with solid portion sizes. Tried the chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce and it had the perfect level of heat. The chicken tenders and margherita pizza were also good. It was dead on a Friday night so I'm a bit worried they won't last long, but hoping football season helps. Service was very attentive and responsive. We had pub basics and they were okay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. It was a little off putting to see staff or maybe friends of staff playing video games on the giant screen in the back larger area. I realize no one was seated there, but we passed through to use the restrooms (which were dirty) and felt like we were interrupting. It didn't feel super welcoming, but I'd call it fine. Given multiple places in the neighborhood with pub style grub, we probably wouldn't make our way back unless it was at the request of friends or for an event. I used to visit this bar when it went by the name, Krolls, and it was always a good time here. Former Bears player Israel Idonije took over and elevated the vibe here which I can dig. You can tell that he's going for a more "upscale" but still accessible neighborhood bar type of feel. Overall, they have pretty decent servers and bartenders, I've had pretty well-made drinks here and it's always enjoyable watching the Bears game or any sports game here for that matter. If I had to take off a star, it would probably be for the size of the fry orders. It's just incredibly too small for the price. I don't know if that's petty of me, taking off a whole star because I feel like they don't give out enough fries but hey, I am who I am and I like what I like. read more

I wish I could give this place a better review as it's a great spot for football Sunday, with plenty of TVs and a very fun ambiance. Unfortunately the service was without a doubt the worst I've ever experienced. After waiting about 20 minutes to even be seen by our server, and then waiting an hour for one burger to come out, which would've been more understandable if our server had checked on our table more than once within that time, we decided to call it and get the check. Our server then told us that they were actually out of the burger- which would have been nice to know at any point after ordering. Top tier experience for lunch here today! Maegan was my waitress and she was excellent! Very attentive and offered great recommendations on the menu. I ordered the blood orange daiquiri and crispy chicken sandwich with honey garlic sauce. Everything was superb! Honestly, this might be one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in Chicago. I didn't come here with high expectations since it's a sports bar but I was really blown away - everything was delicious. All of the staff I interacted with were so friendly and seemed genuinely excited about the new opening. I've been waiting for this place to open! We live a half block away and this was a much needed addition to the area. The place itself is huge, tons of TVs and projectors. Some games in the back. The bar area is really big with a second bar in the back. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly. She gave us the spinach and artichoke dip on the house to try. Delicious! Mozzarella sticks were huge and cheesy. Similar to Roots but with Cheeto dust. Boneless wings were smaller than we thought, but juicy on the inside. Big draft menu with some unexpected surprises (Sapporo? Amazing). This will definitely become a frequent stop for a casual bite or night out. read more

We had hoped that we could have at least had the level of service and food quality that Kroll's used to be back in the day. We have been very disappointed so far. We have visited The Staley three times, as we thought the first couple of times were not really indicative of the food quality and service we come to expect after eating at Israel's and Stephen's other establishments many times (The Signature, Apolonia, S.K.Y. etc.). Each time we visited, we sat at the bar and ordered food and drinks. Food quality is just ok at best. Portions are a joke - especially the fish and chips and chicken sandwich (think children's menu size). I could actually put up with mediocre food if the service was great. Each time we visited, the service actually got worse. Bar staff spend times chatting with friends or on their phones instead of serving customers. The final time we visited we asked for the check (at 9:35pm). However, the bar staff went back to chat with friends and plan what she was going to do after work. Another person came in and sat down (this was at 9:40pm). At 9:45 I called over to ask for the check again, and she just rolled her eyes. It was then she noticed the new person's arrival. She started chatting with him and then when he asked to order a drink, he was told they were closing at 10pm and she was not going to serve him. He left as disgruntled as we did. Unlikely to go back anytime soon, which is a pity as we live 1 block away and we go out 3 to 4 times per week. Our two neighbors also have had similar experiences. Spend your money at Victory Tap, The Firehouse or anywhere else. I am guessing this is already happening as when I walk past, the bar is almost empty most nights. read more

I usually try to be understanding--everyone has bad days--but Celina, the hostess here, was on another level of rude. From the moment I walked in, she treated me like I was an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. She didn't greet me, rolled her eyes when I asked about seating, and acted like she'd rather be anywhere else but there. It's a shame because the bar itself looked nice, but Celina's attitude killed the vibe. A hostess is supposed to make you feel welcome, not like you're an unwanted guest. I won't be back. Let me preface this by saying that as a former server, I ALWAYS tip my servers. So we have passed this place often and wanted to try it out, being a perfect place for football Sunday. The atmosphere is perfect for game day. Spacious, cozy. Vintage sports all around. Menu options were good. We did wait a little bit to be sat which was fine. It did take about 15-20 minutes before a server came over to ask what we wanted to drink. We ordered drinks and food as well because we knew it was busy. Just a pizza and black bean burger. Again it was busy so we knew it might be a minute to get the drinks. Took at least 20 minutes before we got them. After that we waited almost an hour and the pizza came out. The server assured us it was coming shortly before and didn't ask if we needed another round or anything. I waited past that for the black bean burger to come out and it was almost an hour and a half so I gave up. Asked for the check and to take off the burger, which he didnt show any concern about it not coming out at all. When he dropped off the check he related that they were out of the burger. Again, I ALWAYS am tipping over the 20% even if the service isn't outstanding. But the lack of attentiveness and concern really set me back. read more

We've been to The Staley in the South Loop a few times now, and we've seen it go through some ups and downs -- but we're happy to say things have really turned around under the new management. When they first did their soft opening, the food was absolutely delicious. But after the official opening, the experience dropped off -- service was slow, and management seemed disorganized. Thankfully, all of that has changed for the better. Since the new team came in, The Staley has become one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood. The service is friendly and efficient, and the overall vibe has been so much more welcoming. We've gone twice now for their trivia nights (a new addition we LOVE), and both times were a blast. We even brought some friends (Northsiders) along last time, and they were equally impressed. It's clear they're putting real effort into creating a fun and engaging atmosphere. As for the food -- still amazing. The hot honey pepperoni pizza is a must-try, and we're obsessed with the wings, spinach artichoke dip, and nachos. Everything has been fresh, flavorful, and served hot. We're really glad we gave it another chance. Huge improvement, and we'll definitely be back again soon! They pair wonderfully with the giant mozzarella sticks that are either frozen or the kitchen has no idea how to cook them. Asked the bartender and they told us "no happy hour on game day". Why not remove the tent cards then? Very deceiving! Also, we got a table to eat and again, only tent cards for food menus. Not very often do I find a spot with an actual vegetarian/vegan friendly meal on the happy hour menu that's not just fries! The black bean sliders are actually delicious and satisfying. Saturday night during football season. Two huge prime time games on. Lots of big screens to watch. Sound on only one during halftime but not for the other game that was in Q3. Didn't matter much because it was impossible to hear anything. There was either live music or karaoke blasting so loud in the back room we couldn't talk at the table. And it wasn't good music. Tons of reverb and some of the singers had terrible voices. Started with the guava spritz and cauliflower app. Both were delicious. The buffalo wings must have had honey in them. Buffalo wings should not be sweet. The mushroom pizza was so disappointing. The crust was really good. But I guess the truffle flavor came from dumping half a container of truffle salt on the pizza. It was the saltiest pizza I have ever had. Someone else at the table ordered the pizza and buffalo wings. They agreed that neither were very good. Service was okay. But they also struggled to hear us. Would I go back? Maybe if the band isn't there. read more
