I finally came back after 9 years. This time around I did get to try their food and some more Paulaner. We came here to get a bite to eat before heading out to Soldier Field for a Fire game. The place was packed and he had to wait about 10-15 min. Once seated, the service was great. Very fast, attentive and friendly as well. We ordered their Pierogi sampler which was delicious. Couldn't pick a favorite honestly. We also ordered their Marcos Italian Beef pizza. This pizza came with Italian beef, hot giardiniera, caramelized onion and fire roasted tomato. Perfectly decent tavern pizza and rather good onion rings. Welcome to a nice little neighborhood sorta divey bar with ample indoor and outdoor seating. It just feels comfortable. Aside from a small service blip where our server delivered the drinks very quickly and then disappeared for a long time without taking our order, everything else went well. The onion rings may very well be house made but I'm not in love with the dipping sauces. The BBQ sauce tastes like Kraft with a shot of hot sauce and the Thousand Island is Thousand Island. The rings themselves are good. The pizza is fine. We got sausage and artichoke and while the amount of artichoke was good there was a paucity of sausage. What sausage there was was very enjoyable but too many pieces of pizza had no sausage at all. That's a problem I've encountered at more than one Chicago pizza place and it only seems to happen with sausage. I don't get it. All in all, not bad. read more

We went to Flo and Santos because many we know kept raving about their pizza and the Polish options. To start, the space appears to be a traditional Chicago tavern with loud-ish music and a combination of booths and tables. It was a Sunday night and not too busy but the server was a little slow getting to us but was pleasant and reasonably knowledgable about the menu. The beer and drink selections were solid. We started with the pierogi platter and the cheddar waffle fries. The Pierogi were pretty standard, pan crisped, and served on top of sauerkraut with two sauces. They were somewhat flavorless and we we couldn't really tell the mushroom and sauerkraut from the meat at first glance after cutting into them. The cheddar waffle fries were smothered in what appeared to be a béchamel based cheddar sauce which was grainy and not well seasoned. The fries themselves weren't salted at all. Given that nearly all the topping was within the middle 1/2 of the plate, this left many fries being somewhat flavorless. The topping of bacon and green onions helped give it a much needed boost of flavor but we couldn't quite overcome the bland sauce (instead of shredded cheddar) over the fries. We then had the Marco's thin crust tavern style pizza. The cheese was mostly in the middle of the pizza and laid on thick while the edge pieces lacked topping and cheese. The topping were decent but unremarkable. The crust unfortunately fell completely flat. It was thin, which was nice, but it tasted like a Saltine cracker more than pizza crust. I know many people love Flo and Santos for their pizza but we were unimpressed by this outing. The pizza didn't really improve being reheated or even cold the next day per my family. Overall, we were very disappointed by our trip there and given the cost of going out these days I doubt we'll be back. read more

I have been to Flo & Santos a few times, and it's an okay place to grab a drink or some nosh. The only thing I don't care for a ton is that they seem to not want to collect for individual drinks when paying cash, but then it's awkward during shift change. It makes it a "one and done" place for me, which, funny enough, two different bartenders have asked me if my drink is one and done when they see I am paying cash. They do have a large outside seating area and some okay specials during the week. Bartenders are usually pretty attentive, but I cannot help but think they cater more to regulars sitting at the bar than others who are just popping in. read more

Most tourists come to Chicago for the iconic deep dish style pizza, but locals know that tavern style is where it's at! There's only so many days one can indulge on a thick pie before it becomes too rich and filling. And that's where Flo & Santos comes in bringing all the best flavors of pizza onto a cracker like style crust which is much easier to share while drinking a beer and watching a game. My wife and I ordered a medium size thin crust pizza with half Grace's favorite and the other half Marco's Italian Beef which both tasted great! I liked how you could taste each ingredient underneath the warm blanket of cheesy goodness. The crisp texture of the crust was super addicting and very reminiscent of the frozen pizzas you'd get from the grocery store but in all the best ways. Each slice almost feels like a cracker with enough structure to prevent the toppings from falling off. The place was quite large with even more outdoor seating. I can see why so many people would enjoy this more often because it is easily shareable and you don't feel nearly as guilty or heavy haha! I only wish it was more affordable. At $23, this is quite expensive considering I could have easily demolished the entire medium pizza to myself. So for a large group of friends, I'd have to order multiple pies which is less filling and may end up costing as much or even more than a deep dish pizza. read more

I did not know they had tavern style pizza! Half a pizza later I can say this is one of my favorite in the city. The sauce on the margarita pizza is so tangy and delicious. We made our own with garlic and gardinera and I can still taste the peppers. This is absolutely a solid tavern-style pizza place. As a vegetarian, the menu was limited but I came with a purpose. The turkey BLT was a healthier option that I enjoyed - fresh ingredients and came with a side of delightful waffle fries (with the option to add cheese). We love Flo & Santos' deep-dish pizza takeout. This time (Feb 2026), we got friends together for tavern-style pizza ... shaped like a heart for Valentines Day! Silly, fun, and soooo tasty! We started with their Saturday special: a $20 bucket of 5 Polish beers. (Or you could get American beers.) To let everyone taste them all, we asked for glasses, which they brought frosty-chilled. The Tyskie Gronie is a golden color lager with a light hoppy flavor. The Warka Classic is more coppery in color, a little bready or malty, with some light herbal lemony flavors, with a drier finish. Okocim "O.K. Beer" is a pilsner, a bit floral and sweet, crisp, and lightly but sharply hoppy. These were great frefreshing pizza beers. They also had a wide range of beers from crafts to midwest standards. We also showed them the recipe for Orange Crush, invented in Ocean City, and Maryland's Official State Drink since Jun 2025. Hey, they've got a shandy on their menu, so we can order our fsvorite summer drink if we want during Chicago "false spring" heat wave this week :-) We shared appetizers of calamari and pierogis. The $17.50 calamari was tender and hot, lightly coated with crisp flakey salt and pepper crust, with spicy marinara for dipping and lemon to brighten the flavors. We cut the tender seared $13 pierogis to share the thinly wrapped potatoes & cheese, meat, and sauerkraut & mushroom, with sides and servings of homemade bacon-specked sauerkraut, sour cream, and applesauce. We would have ordered more of the peirogis, to have more than a few halves per person, but there was pizza work to do! Flo & Santos is (are?) serious with their tavern-style pizza! The crust is terrifically thin, like Italian piada bread, cooked crispy crunchy like a cracker, and cut into squares for sharing :-) Of course covered with all kinds of creative toppings, and red marinara sauce, or garlic cream white sauce, or no-sauce! We got the heart-shaped Valentines Feb 13-15 special with thin-cut pepperoni, lightly spicy and cutely relaxed about the exact shape :-). We added Nama's Veggie pizza, generously covered in tender sweet spinach, fresh tomato, bitey diced onion, chunks of sweet juicy green pepper, and a scattering of black olives and mushrooms for umami flavoring. Quite a marvelous collection of flavors. And we went a little wild with Marco's Italian Beef pizza! Don't shy away. They didn't imitate that classic Chicago sandwich. Instead, they lay that savory thin-sliced beef over tomato marinara pizza-sauce, then add a flsvorful zingy hot giardiniera, and make it even richer with fire-roasted tomatoes and caramelized onion. I think we got the $29 14-inch size of each pizza, plenty of deliciously-topped crunchy pizza for our group of six adults and three children, with some wonderful leftovers to take home :-) For a special dessert, they offered a super-cute whipped-cream-decorated heart-shaped strawberry $6.50 gelato with a chocolate-covered strawberry. When we saw the one, we shared several more around the table. A lovely refreshing finish. loved the food and drink, and the friendly attentive staff. We showed up without a reservation at 4:20pm on a Saturday, and with little waiting, they assembled a table for our group of nine. As we left two hours later, they were setting up a table for 20! We found street-parking pretty easily nearby for one car, and most of us arrived about two blocks away at the Roosevelt stop on the Orange, Green, and Red "L" lines. Flo & Santos - Finally Made It, and Mostly Worth the Wait! As a long-time Chicago visitor with family and friends across the city, Flo & Santos had been on my list for years. I'd heard great things about their bar, pies, and food, and staying in a vacation rental just down the street gave me the perfect excuse to finally check it out. I've had a lot of pierogies (Detroit roots), and these were unlike any I've tried. Great texture and tasty fillings. The sauerkraut, though? Not for me--more sweet and bland than the traditional sour kick I was hoping for. 13th Street Italian Sub (Wife's Pick) - A total winner. Just spicy enough to make your nose run, with super fresh ingredients and a crunchy roll that softened perfectly after a few bites. Buffalo Bills Pizza (My Pick) - Toppings were on point: spicy chicken, cheese, buffalo sauce, and onion in perfect balance. Not sloppy, just right. But the crust? Meh. Dry, floury, and lacking that chewy, gluteny goodness I love. It held up, but I'd trade that for more flavor and texture. Value - Hard to judge since I've lived in Seattle for 15 years and everything outside the PNW feels like a bargain! But for under $60, we got an app, two meals, and a couple of drinks--definitely a solid deal by Chicago standards. Lots of bar specials too, though we weren't in the mood to run a tab that night. On a tavern-style pizza kick, and in the neighborhood, we decided to try this place for dinner. There was plenty of space, the beer list is nice, and the pizza was perfectly fine. But it was nothing special. Even "well done," the crust just had a bit of crunch and the cheese had no appreciable browning at all. This was true for the rest of the food more or less across the board, and for the service as well for that matter. If this is your neighborhood haunt I totally get how you could come here regularly, because perfectly fine pizza and a nice beer is the kind of thing you sometimes need in a neighborhood haunt; I have neighborhood haunts like this myself. 4.5 stars. The service here is amazing. There is a great little standing area to have a drink while you wait for a table, and we appreciated the attentiveness of the bartender. It looked busy when we arrived, but we were seated pretty quickly. Our server was great. She checked in often, but didn't linger or rush us in any way. As for the food, we only had enough of an appetite for pizza, but the pierogis I saw coming out of the window looked promising. Our pizza was flavorful (especially the fire roasted tomatoes) and the crust was perfectly crisp. The prices for beer and food were decent, too. I'd like to return ans try some of the other specialty pizza options, as there are some unique flavor combinations offered. The only issue was the men's room. My husband reported an overflowing urinal and liquid on the floor... which seems pretty unsanitary for people to be walking through (especially if they work in the kitchen). My new favorite spot in the south loop! Hear me out--do you ever just want a casual vibe with great music and even greater food? Yup, me too and that's why I love Flo & Santos. No need to make a reservation because I don't think they take them but also because they've got a big space and I've never had a problem getting a table--either immediately or after a 5-minute wait. Such a highly recommended place on reddit, not sure I understand why. Maybe it's for the atmosphere or non-pizza food...the pizza does have great crunchy texture, but beyond that it's mid grade cheese, skimpy tasteless sauce and tastes like burnt matzah. I enjoy well done pizza, but you can do it without making it taste like it's just burned. Maybe it's just not my thing- I've had pizza that tastes like this over the years and it brings me back to the same disappointment. For some it must bring them back to the same joy. That being said we ordered their "Italian Gelato" and it was absolutely not Gelato. It tasted and looked 100% like Breyer's vanilla bean with the black specks of bean. This one was delicious the crust was a great as it wasn't too crunchy. The second choice was an Italian beef with giardiniera. Solid slice with a great flavor palate. A local Chicago resident recommended this place to me as the "best pizza" in all of downtown. I want to say this is certainly a different taste of pizza then you are used to. They pride themselves in their thin crusts and staying to true to their roots. Would recommend their specialty pizzas. In the front it looks like a divey sports bar, but if you go there with your family, ask to sit in the back room, which has a warm, inviting, and neighborhoody feel. Very kid friendly, a large menu which has something for everyone, and the polish food is really amazing. We like to get the polish sampler which has kielbasa, sauerkraut, potato pancake, and pierogi. The ceasar salad here is deliciious (which I wasn't expecting) but don't miss it. Our kid likes the hot dog and they have other good things on the kid's menu.
