Disappointing. Nice atmosphere, fast service, reasonable prices, hot food. Mediocre taste. I had two slices of pepperoni. They were hot and the first bite was good, however as the meal progressed, I found, I really couldn't finish the slices. The sauce was too sweet. She had the minestrone soup. It was very hot. When asked how it was her reply was "it was soup." Maybe other things on the menu are better. I don't think we will be back. Would recommend that you look at other options nearby. read more

We came here on a Saturday morning around 11am for a quick bite. The service was quick and the staff was polite. Our food was ready before we turned around to go find a seat. The Chicago Style All Beef Vienna Dog was simple and good. There were so many poppy seeds and I'm not used to having those on my hot dog bun, but the hot dog was great overall. Definitely something to check off while you're in Chicago. I'm not a huge fan of the Italian Beef sandwich to begin with, but having tried several spots, Luke's Italian Beef isn't anything special. The interior was very well decorated, and it seemed like a cool place to meet up, but the food itself was fairly average. To put it in perspective, in the world of subs I would say it is kind of like Subway. Not necessarily bad, but it has nothing that distinguishes it from other spots that might taste better overall. read more

I'm not sure if this place caters more to tourists or locals, but it got packed regardless! The Italian beef was so delicious, but I shouldn't have gotten the hilt peppers - that's a kind of hot I really can't handle haha! The chicken parm sandwich really didn't hit though, kinda dry and not much flavor, I wouldn't recommend it, stick to the classics. We got there just before the lunch crowd came in, there's a good amount of seating but it's still not a very big space. If you want to grab a quick lunch near Willis Tower rather than in Willis Tower, it's a good choice for Italian beef! read more

It was...dry. I got The Italian beef sandwich with mozzarella based on the employee's recommendation. The bun was wet enough to barely hold together but the beef itself was dry and flavorless. Just go somewhere else.. Everything is mid or worse. Chili cheese fries taste like canned beans and fries. Beef sandwich lacks flavor and only decent thing was the hot dog but there's way better options. Not to mention aby sauce or chili costs $1 extra read more

Stopped in here after checking into the Hilton across the street. The service was straightforward and as many people mentioned my food was already prepared by the time my transaction went through. I got an Italian Beef Sandwich with Hot Peppers for here and by the time I opened my sandwich the bread was soaked in grease and juice. The beef itself was rather bland and I wish there were more hot peppers added to my sandwich. Representing 2021 in alphabet series, L is for Luke's Italian Beef. A friend & I were in Chicago on vacation. I had seen the Hancock Tower before he got there. He wanted to see the Willis Tower. I said I'm good, I went to one tower, and the one I read with the better views. But he was dead set on going to the tallest. But in my opinion, when you're that high up what's 100' here or there going to make any real difference. I did my own thing, and we met back up afterward. We went to Luke's for lunch. Wow, the Italian beef sandwich was excellent. If I had been smart, I would've taken a pic of my delicious sandwich, but I wasn't smart in this case, but got pics of the menu & outside. I stopped in for a quick bite while I was walking around the city. The deli has sandwiches, pasta, and pizza. Although I can't eat beef, this place was considered the place to go for their Italian beef sandwich. I instead got a turkey sandwich that came with their house made Italian house sauce which paired perfectly with everything in the sandwich. Had the Chicago style beef sandwich with hot peppers and American cheese. I liked it. The peppers were spicy and added a lot of flavor to sandwich. The beef was tasty as well. Loved the roll, very soft and not an overwhelming amount of bread. The fries are really good as well. Classic diner with lots of Chicago sports memorabilia. Lots of seating. Nice service. In town and saw Luke's and looked interesting. Food (4/5) Italian Beef - heard this was the one to try and I enjoyed it. The beef has flavour and was nice and moist. Yeah it's oily and bit messy but that's way it's supposed to be. Add in some cheese, green and red peppers and it's a nice mix. Service (4/5) Pretty quick turnaround and no issues. Located on W. Jackson Blvd. and S. Wells St. in the Loop. We were on a "foodie tour," and our guide introduced us to Luke's. You go up to the order window, pick up your food and seat yourself. We had their 'Chicago Style All Beef Vienna' hotdog, which is served on a poppy seed bun with relish, onion, mustard, pickle, tomato, celery, salt and sport peppers. As Californian, I expected to have it with ketchup, but I wanted to have it just how it is, Chicago-Style, and I'm glad I left the ketchup out. The bread was so soft, and the hotdog was simply delicious! They serve so many other food options such as pizza, calzones, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, fries, and salads. They even have a couple of meatless options. The restaurant has a classic vibe to this Italian spot. It was very full when we arrived during lunchtime, but there's plenty of seating. Got an Italian beef with hot peppers first thing in the morning, and Luke's was okay. The beef was cooked to well done, so maybe a little on the dry side for my taste? The gravy was helpful, but absorbed more into the bread instead of back into the meat. The meat itself is a neutral base for the peppers, but could have used some more of its own flavor. Good location for loop activities, but I think there are better Italian beef shops out there. read more

Not sure what happened to this place but it used to be an easy 5 out of 5 every time with probably a top 5 beef sandwich in the city. HOWEVER, something changed and I've had it 3 times in the last year and every time I go away disappointed. There is no taste to the beef or the hot giardiniera. Fries are still good but sadly this place has fallen off a cliff. read more

Wow...my eyes have been opened... Suburbs guy here and i thought it began and ended with Portillo's or Buona for Italian Beef. Wrong!! Stopped in for a quick sandwich before my train. Must of walked past Luke's 100 times. Place was cool, clean, staff was friendly and efficient. Felipa V was really awesome especially. Service was quick and, man, the sandwich was out of this world! The line moves fast here and service is quick and relatively friendly. The food has flavor and the decor is cool. There is good seating. The only thing that I would say is that their italian beef sandwich is a bit deceiving in price as it is just the bread and meat, anything else is extra. I also wish that their italian beef was more wet. The photo is a bit deceiving because it was moist on the outside but on the inside it was super dry. read more

Well in a world in Chicago of portillo's Al's beef and other establishments coming from work I saw this and had to compare to those three it was a meh ok. I went here before the rush lunch hour at 11:20 from work since now I commuting downtown right by the Willis Tower. This had a silver platter reading but I am not impressed but it's not the worst regards to how they make their Italian beef. It doesn't have a rich beefy flavor like Al's beef nor in size compared to portillo's where everybody says it's overrated. It is more flavorful than Johnny's beef in Elmwood Park or Arlington heights. I'm trying to stay healthy I did not order any fries don't need any more carbs from the bread. Ambience was very casual unfortunately no washroom. I probably would come back here for the pasta I see other than that not for the Italian beef. This is supposed to be one of those hole in the wall small businesses unlike a big Franchise like portillo's or even Al's beef which is also somewhat a hole in the wall competitor for Italian beef read more

I love Luke's Italian Beef! It's located in the South Loop downtown on Jackson. I'm honestly surprised I've never reviewed it since I went here so many times. The Italian Beef Sandwiches are the best - make sure to get it dipped in the gravy with hot peppers - delicious. I also really enjoy the pizza & fries there. On Fridays, they have a pepper and egg sandwich which is also amazing. I definitely recommend. P.S - bring cash to avoid the credit/debit card service charge. read more

We had just arrived on the train and were looking for a place to have a quick lunch. We stumbled upon Lukes and decided to give it a try. Our party had a couple of the Italian beef sandwiches and an order of chili cheese fries. The restaurant is a diner style with red and white checked tables. It was bright and cheery. The gal who took our order wasn't overly friendly but got our order correct so that's a step in the right direction. Love the location to Union Station and would stop again. Came here for the Italian beef sandwich. A very basic establishment for the working class which I can appreciate. In this area, most of the hustle and bustle is gone on the weekends. In fact, most of the businesses are closed and kinda turns into a ghost town. The establishment is large, plenty of seating. Food comes out hot and steaming. -Italian beef sandwich: "Tom Tom". Ribbons of delicious beef in a soft white sandwich bun. Dipped in au jus and topped with peppers. One sandwich is filling. You can get cheese too but we opted for as authentic Chicagoan as possible per the cashier. Would definitely order again. -tamale: ordered this out of pure curiosity. Formed like a sausage and comes wrapped in a paper with a cartoon and nutritional facts and tied at both ends with string. It's got the texture that's a bit grainy, mushy, pasty. There was no textural difference between the filling and outside. Probably the blandest tamale I've ever tried but I definitely don't regret trying it. read more

Good lunch spot in the loop. Lots of space for eating and the service is super quick (even on busy days). I would not say this is a top spot when it comes to Italian Beefs but nonetheless it was solid, fresh and a healthy portion of beef. I would have liked more gravy juice and a fresher bun. The food! The Italian Beef is not seasoned. The au jous is but still lacking. And why do Lukes serve pizza that sat out for 6 hours or more? I even had a tourist asked me if this represents Chicago food. I replied, absolutely not! Unless you come here for nostalgia don't come. read more

While I am not a native, I have been a frequent visitor over 20 years and always brag on Lou's as the best of the big boys and as good as several of the lesser known neighborhood spots. Sadly, my last two in person visits have more closely resembled the frozen product they ship from their website. The most recent visit last week included 11 other family members who were "first timers" that had trusted my recommendation for the good stuff only to be disappointed by both the temperature and small amount of both cheese/sauce. We shared several large, medium and personal pies across the menu and I honestly can't say a single one measured up to the standard they have set for decades. The always delicious butter crust saved this from being a one star review, but my next visit to Chitown may not include another visit to any of the way too many locations.

I decided to try Luke's for lunch after a friend raved about their Italian beef sandwich, and since it's so close to my office, I decided to stop in today. Safe to say, it did not disappoint! Even though I arrived during the lunch rush with a line out the door, I was seated with my food in just 5 minutes. That efficiency, paired with plenty of seating, made the experience stress-free. The place has an old-school lunch vibe, which I loved. The menu is huge, offering everything from Italian beef and pizza to salads and sandwiches. I opted for the Italian beef sandwich "wet" with hot peppers and mozzarella, paired with a large fry that I shared with my coworker. The Italian beef was incredible and exactly as good as my friend promised. The fries were reminiscent of McDonald's (in the best way) and came in a large generous portion for just $4, making them ideal for sharing. I'll definitely be back at Luke's to try more of their menu. It's the perfect spot for a quick, fast-casual meal near the Sears Tower. Highly recommend! read more

NO, do NOT go here, took my parents from out of town on vacation, Sunday at 1:30pm 15-20 min wait for 3 slices of already made pizza from the display warmer and 1 chicago style hotdog, 2 of the 3 slices were wrong, 2 pain cheese instead of sausage and tomato basil, the hot dog was small shriveled and pathetic but didn't even bother complaining after the wait, it was obvious the employees didn't care and were unhelpful, trash on all the tables, trash overflowing from the trash can, no rest rooms, and the sauce on the pizza was no better than a frozen one from the store. I was embarrassed I even took my parents there. Portillo's over by Hard Rock/ Rock and Roll McDonalds would deffinitly be worth the cab fare or walk over this dump read more

For dinner, hubby had the pork saltimbocca romano and he said it was a bit overcooked which made it a bit tough. I had the salmon piccata which was very lemony and fantastic! We were full but wanted dessert since they make them in house and ordered the cheesecake and lemon cake to go. The desserts were light and perfect as our evening snack a few hours later. We would definitely stop back!

Recently we decided to have a celebratory dinner for our family which included 17 people in all--from 6 to 70. We have allergies galore and the kitchen staff and manager, Christian, worked with us to ensure everyone had a safe and enjoyable meal, and no one felt excluded. There was something for everyone! We were also able to have a kids table, a teenage one, and adults only! Everyone was happy. It is a wonderful welcoming place.

There was a line when we arrived, but the staff was friendly, efficient, and did a great job keeping things moving. I ordered the pepperoni, and my wife chose the Margherita. I recommend the speciality pizzas - I tried a slice of the Vodka Roni - pizza with vodka sauce and pepperoni and a slice of White pizza - pizza with Ricotta cheese, basil, lemon and garlic - both were delicious but the Vodka Roni was my favorite! They have a ton of speciality pizzas so make sure to check those out. I also recommend coming before 12 PM if you're downtown on a weekday - as the line gets pretty long and you may not be able to find a table if you're dining in. I definitely recommend Pizza Dada if you want a NY style of Pizza in Chicago - delicious!
