4.5 Wow! A NY-style slice joint (whole pies only after 4pm). Rather good pizza and I honestly wish it were closer to me. It's one of those where if it were close I'd be a regular but I don't think I'd be going out of my way for it. The NY slice, a benchmark, is solid. The crust was maybe a touch too thick and not enough grease dripped onto the plate but these are small issues. The white slice, usually my favorite, was not at all my favorite here. The slice was dried out and leathery and there was only one dollop of ricotta. The ricotta is the best part and helps moisten and give contrast to the slice so its absence was noticeable. I don't think the small lemon wedge added much of anything taste wise but the sesame seed crust was surprisingly good. The vibe is very much like a NY slice joint, so sparse, dimly lit, close quarters, and minimal seating. So yeah. I wish it were closer but if you're looking for NY pizza, Zaza is a very good choice. read more

it's a bit far from us, but we did a pick-up order and to be fair, by the time we ate this pizza, it has cooled off quite a bit. The online ordering process was fine. there was a 30 min wait. So the garlic knots were really big and more just like bread rolls. Not very garlicky. Also, the Caesar salad was ok - not very flavorful, despite mixing in plenty of the dressing. Pizza itself - again I'll acknowledge that it was pretty cold by the time we reached home. I did throw it in a pre-heated oven for 5 mins and that helped a bit. The sauce and all had promise. In a city with a lot of pizza places, Zazas definitely has a positive impact on the list. Ordering online is beyond easy and the service is fast. There are only one size whole pizzas unless you're eating in and you order by the slice. There are plenty of options to choose from and you can modify a few pizzas and add some toppings to your order. The pizzas are HUGE and you won't go hungry. We went with the Gold Medal Pie and weren't disappointed! Between two people, we had about 2.5 slices each. I definitely will never order here without adding on the garlic knots. It's a bit frustrating you only get a few, but they are very filling and just buttery garlic goodness. They're so delicious. If you are eating in the restaurant, I highly recommend ordering some of the by-the-slice pieces so you can try more of the menu without committing to an entire pizza. I've also liked the Caruso Special and Truffle Mushroom which gave us a great and unique variety of pizzas. Just a quick update to confirm that three years after opening, Zazas remains the best thin crust pizza spot in Chicago. This time around, since we don't get down there as much as we'd like, we grabbed two pies to mix and match, and then to freeze the leftovers to enjoy down the line. The white pie is excellent - it's a tough pie to execute because there's nothing to hide behind, just fresh ingredients and skill. It's delicious, and the sesame crust is a nice, unique touch. It might be fun to brush a little olive oil and salt on the crust for some added flavor, but that's a personal touch. The dough remains perfectly done, light and chewy with a great undercarriage, just the slightest flop. I have never had the opportunity to grab their grandma pie because it's usually sold out, so I was thrilled to be able to try it. It's somewhere between a free form thin, a sicilian, and a Detroit style, and it's damn great. The sauce is right where you want it (I just added a touch of salt), and the crust is so good. I have never seen my wife eat two slices of pizza faster than with this pie, she's a total convert. And that cheese - it reminds me of the way Lombardi's in NYC does their cheese in that 120 year old coal oven. So good. Being two people who grew up with east coast pizza, I mean it with the highest praise that Zazas is up there with the absolute best pizza I've ever had, in New Jersey, in New York, anywhere. Excited to go back in a few weeks to try the Windy City Pie. Until then, though, those leftovers will do just fine. read more

Just drove 1 hour Elgin to Lakeview area of Chicago today 6/25/2026 to meet coworkers for Zazas Pizza@ 3037 N.Clark St. What a disappointment. The reheated slice of pepperoni and sauce if cheese waa awful. The slices were mostly burnt on the bottom. When I mentioned it to the guys behind the counter, there waa no response. They just went about their business. I made pizzas in high school at a Italian owned and operated restaurant. Everything was made fresh and no pizza would ever be served burnt. I should have at the very least been offered new non burnt slices. Poor customer service and inferior food. My Italian grandparents and father would thumb their nose at this joint. Never again. Finally got to try Zazas after hearing so many good reviews! We can definitely see why. First off, if you're planning to eat your pizza fresh made there, plan to wait a little for a seat. Seats are limited, but there are a good amount of tables. We ordered our pizza there and it was out within 20 minutes, given this was on a Sunday evening and it was packed inside, while still making to-go orders as well. The garlic twists were a great starter, super warm, fluffy and garlicky. The dipping sauces were also tasty, particularly the white sauce. For the pizza, there are so many great ingredient combos, but we decided to keep it simple. We tried the hot honey pepperoni and that was a perfect blend of pepperoni and ricotta. The crust was super crispy and light - the slices themselves are nice and light so you can eat a bunch without feeling guilty! The team was super nice and welcoming and the vibes were typical of a local pizza spot. Up next for us, we want to try one of their vodka pies. This place is amazing. I have gone in to get their regular NYC style pizza and we got the gold medal pizza. I love their sauce. I most recently got their grandma pie with pepperoni and hot honey and it was the best square pizza pie I've had!! Their service is quick. I ordered online and drive up a little early. Great pizza, but expect to wait over an hour for carry out. All i ordered was one pizza on a Monday evening. That should not take over an hour. I showed up after 45 minutes and the hostess said it'll be ready in 15 minutes, and she'll call my name. 30 minutes went by so I asked again and they said it was ready. Got home and had to microwave it. Experience had been terrible twice, but the pizza is so good I'm willing to give it another shot. Generally they get 5 stars. They have a new phone ordering system that is TERRIBLE! The restaurant sends out weekly emails touting $15 Tuesday Cheese Pizza! Their new system had no idea of the Tuesday special and would not accept it as an order. I Asked to be transferred to a live store clerk and it would not! It kept repeating its regular options. I asked if the restaurant was a BYOB. It said it Wasn't. I asked if I could bring beer and it said no you cannot. I finally placed an order for a truffle mushroom pizza and it told me the pizza would be ready in about 30 minutes. We got to the restaurant 30 minutes later and the store Clerk could not find the order. After 5 minutes she found the order under a misspelled name. She confirmed that they are a BYOB, and that they do have a Tuesday special and "no" she hadn't tried ordering on their new system. No apologies from her. And to top it the pizza was COLD because it had been sitting for about 15 minutes. Their automated system gave me a bad wait time. They weren't willing to reheat the pizza. I overheard the cashier relaying my issues to someone making pizzas and that was it. Looks like they have 4 locations now. So they're growing fast but not trying to take care of their existing customers. Customers have choices too. This company will not be getting the benefit of my money. My husband and I stopped in here yesterday for lunch with our toddler. Everyone was super welcoming and as a bonus they were handing out samples!
