Thoroughly impressed with my experience at Steak 48. Dimly lit and intimate in the heart of the city you come here when you want a great cut of beef and the selection makes sure there's something for everyone regardless of preference. I went with the 45-Day Dry Aged steak alongside truffle butter and fries. Every bite was tender and deep flavored, and the truffle butter took it over the edge; easily one of the best steaks I've had in the city hands down. The fries were perfectly seasoned and individually crisped, not a soggy fry in sight. Both old fashions were well crafted and catered to your whiskey or rye preference. Service was attentive throughout, checked in consistently and never let my drink run empty. -Mr.

Great dining experience but a week later, I learned the Valet parked my car illegally and I recieved a $100 parking ticket while I was dining..........I wouldn't valet here again and it will be a long while before I return......The silence has been loud on this....

Celebrating my birthday at Steak 48 turned into a night I'll never forget. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt upscale yet welcoming, setting the tone for a truly special evening. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection -- tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Every side dish complemented the meal beautifully, and the presentation made it feel like a true celebration. What made the night unforgettable was the service. The staff went above and beyond to make the birthday feel special, adding thoughtful touches that made the evening feel personal and memorable. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a milestone or create a lasting memory, Steak 48 delivers an experience as incredible as the food.

Excellent food in a wonderful atmosphere! The views from the second floor are amazing. I had the bone in ribeye. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Ordered it rare and it was cooked to perfection. The sides were awesome too. Service was excellent. Very attentive! Definitely recommend this place for a romantic evening or a celebration.

Back to Chicago and had to stop in. Service was on point and food excellent. We got filet, cooked perfect and tender. Got asparagus fries and corn crème brûlée, omg that corn is still amazing and the asparagus was no slouch either. Every trip to Chicago this is a stop.

We came to celebrate our anniversary and it not disappoint. We made reservations a few weeks prior and were seated right on time. They make a point to remind you to dress for the occasion but there were a few people in more casual outfits so I don't think the dress code is strictly enforced. The dinner rolls to start were fabulous - very fluffy but dense and filling. We started with the hanging bacon because it seemed like such a unique dish. It definitely lived up to the hype - each slice was super thick and flavorful and dripping in the truffle honey glaze. Honestly, I was pretty full after that and we still had a full line up of food to enjoy. We then split the beet salad, dry aged ribeye, and asparagus fries. The beet salad is always a classic. The dry aged steak was a nice twist to the normal wet aged version. They also were great about offering to pre-slice the steak for easy sharing or divide it into two separate plates from the start. For dessert we chose the ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake which they ended up comping for our anniversary. It was a hefty portion and came with a giant pile of whip cream and a personalized anniversary design. They also gave us mini chocolate chip cookies at the end as if all that food wasn't enough. Our server, Daniel, provided great recommendations and the rest of the staff did a great job clearing dishes and refilling drinks. However, sometimes I felt a bit rushed and they did take a few plates away when I still had a few more bites left.

From start to finish, Steak 48 delivered an exceptional dining experience that hit all the right notes of indulgence, precision, and bold flavor. But before I describe an unforgettable meal, I want to begin by thanking the new GM Jennifer Seitaj for accommodating my request for a private dining booth in the back (pictured), the manager Kris Petrov for the tremendous on-site customer service, and of course my waiter Vincent who ALWAYS provides exceptional service-- appropriately attentive without being overbearing. Having arrived early we started in the warm and friendly bar area -- vibrant but not loud -- and enjoyed a delicious glass of Croggy Range "Te Muna Rd" Sauvignon Blanc (24 Marl, NZ). When seated knowing we'd have steaks at Chicago's premier steakhouse restaurant I ordered a bottle of an exceptional and reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon - The Calling ('20 Alexander Valley, CA) $94, a bold, well-structured full bodied wine with a long, elegant finish and balance. Sourced from Sonoma's renowned Alexander Valley - A classic expression of a California Cabernet. Steak 48 Food -- THE BEST! Appetizers set the tone beautifully. The crispy shrimp--tossed in a sweet Thai chili glaze and paired with a garlic aioli--was the perfect mix of sweet heat and creamy richness. The standout starter, however, was the chicken fried lobster tails. Served three to an order, these were a decadent treat: crisp on the outside with tender lobster inside, seasoned with Chesapeake Bay spices and complemented by a green chili aioli that added just the right kick. Worth every penny. For the main course, the steaks were grilled to perfection. The New York Strip arrived flawlessly medium rare, with a gorgeous sear and juicy, robust flavor. The filet mignon, also medium rare, was equally impressive--tender, buttery, and full of depth. The sautéed spinach side with sea salt and Parmesan was a simple yet elegant pairing, offering a garlicky, savory counterpoint to the rich meats. Dessert was no afterthought. The "Ultimate" Vanilla Caramel Cake lives up to its name--layers of moist cake, vanilla gelato, and airy whipped cream, topped with homemade toasted brown sugar cinnamon pecans for the perfect crunch. The red velvet bread pudding was equally show-stopping, melting together warm cake, vanilla gelato, sweet cream cheese, and white chocolate into a luscious finale. Every dish reflected thoughtful preparation and premium ingredients. Steak 48 nails the upscale steakhouse experience--bold, flavorful, and totally satisfying.

It was our first time at the infamous stake 48 as it was the wife's birthday. Start the service was amazing along with the hospitality in rose petals all over the table. The cocktail list was extensive along with the crafted beers, whiskey's bourbons and incredible wine list both current and vintage. The steaks were delicious and the sides were perfect. If I could only make one complaint about the food. It would be the oysters. They just didn't seem as juicy and briny as that specific breed is known, for we also noticed there were a lot of guests wearing hats and hoodies, which was odd because they really force the dress code policy. both through OpenTable and on their website. I would suggest they change that and start cracking down unless they want it to be another Applebee's. Other than that, great place try it out!

This was such a nice experience for our anniversary. The restaurant was pretty dark inside and there is a dress code but the music was upbeat which, in my opinion, makes things feel young and energetic instead of too serious. The steaks were delicious. Loveddd how hot the actual plates were. The au gratin potatoes were amazing. They sent a dessert to us for the occasion and it was soooo delicious. I can't even put my finger on everything that was in it, I just knew there was red velvet cake, maybe some macadamia nuts?? I'm not sure but after everything we ate, we almost didn't finish it so it was the perfect size. Why 4 stars? Our waiter, was ..okay. He knew to be professional but the way he said things at times was kinda condescending so it could have brought the mood down if we allowed it to. Other than that, it was a nice time

I came here on a recommendation from a stranger. Service and food was excellent. Very courteous staff even though we were running late for our reservation. I will definitely return to try other dishes.

Best steak iv ever had. I will say my steak did come out purple when I asked for medium. They threw it back on the grill and it came back PERFECT. The service there was phenomenal. Mashed potatoes were a huge hit as well.

My FAVORITE steakhouse in Chicago. I bring my parents here everytime they come to visit. My mom is super picky about steakhouses and asks to come everytime she comes to Chicago. Steaks are always hot and fresh and at the perfect temp. Sides like the butter whipped potato's and Mac & cheese are to die for! The appetizers are also all impeccable. They have some of the BEST rolls. They also brought my mom the sweetest birthday dessert to celebrate her last time she visited. Ambiance is dark and moody, which I love for a steakhouse.

How strict is the dress code? Thinking about attending for my birthday and wanted to wear jeans and a sweater. Will this attire meet the dress code?

    Is your meat halal?

Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. We do offer 2 Halal dishes, our rack of lamb and the Wagu filet.

Will outdoor seating be available during the winter? And if so, how will a comfortable temperature be maintained?

Mainly take out but have seating on the inside.

Website says "Proper Attire Required". Please elaborate on what that would be for both men and women?

I would just avoid wearing hats, T shirt or sneakers. Guys don't need a sport coat or anything like that. I've been there a few times with jeans and nice shirt. Same thing for women. I've seen plenty of women wear jeans and not necessarily a dress… Read more

Service is attentive without hovering, friendly without slipping into tourist‑patter, and paced like they've been doing this for decades -- because they have. What makes Shaw's especially great is that you get to choose your mood. The main dining room is spacious, classic, and quietly elegant -- white linens, warm lighting, and that timeless supper‑club energy that makes any meal feel like an occasion. Step over to the oyster bar side and it's a completely different vibe: lively, relaxed, a little louder, a little looser, and perfect when you want great seafood without the formality. Two personalities, both done well. The food still has that old‑school precision newer spots try to imitate but rarely match. The Buffalo Shrimp appetizer is one of those sleeper hits -- crisp, sauced just right, and carrying a real kick without overwhelming the seafood. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake is a must whenever it's available: big flakes, minimal filler, exactly what you want from a classic. Seafood Gumbo is hearty and well‑seasoned, and the French Fried Shrimp have that nostalgic, home‑kitchen charm -- the kind that reminds me of the ones my grandmother used to make. For the undecided, the Club Room Combination is an excellent way to sample around without committing to just one thing. And don't overlook the Lobster Macaroni & Cheese -- it's loaded with more lobster than you'd expect, rich without being heavy, and one of the most quietly indulgent sides on the menu. If there's one thing longtime regulars still miss, it's the Grand Buffet Brunch Shaw's used to run on weekends. It was a Chicago ritual -- seafood towers, carving stations, breakfast classics -- and its absence is still felt. Here's hoping it finds its way back someday; it was one of the city's great brunch traditions. Shaw's remains the kind of place you can bring a visitor, a coworker, or someone you're trying to impress, and it delivers every time -- no drama, no surprises, just a Chicago classic doing what it does best.

The medley was awesome in comparison to the overcooked frozen rock crab that was mushy. It wasn't the best showing for a classy restaurant. Lastly, I was really disappointed by the number of patrons who don't know how to dress! This I don't blame the restaurant for, rather the patron. I feel a collared shirt is appropriate- even if it's only a polo. But to wear a T shirt is just plain rude and really should be discouraged regardless if it is a child, teen, woman or man. I give a 3 because the Food was only good and the seating arrangements were tight. The restaurant should discourage patrons from wearing less than a collared shirt when making reservations.

We visited Ocean Prime for my birthday dinner, which they were aware of, and as we were walking to…read moreour seating saw plenty of couples sitting in window booths. I was excited, but they proceeded to sit us in a shared booth setting right on a busy aisle where I was literally facing a wall. We asked about moving seats, and to their credit we were moved to the back room tables with a window view. As we were waiting for our meal, two women were sat next to us, who was then joined by one of the hostesses (?) who proceeded to stand there with the two slightly intoxicated ladies and have a full on vacation gossip session about where they've traveled and who they know. I looked over at the hostess, who saw me, but didn't take the hint and continued having a loud obnoxious conversation directly next to us. This was going on for what seemed like 10 minutes, so I looked over again, to which she finally took the hint, ended the conversation, then clearly tried to do damage control by checking in with us. I finally got my order, the filet mignon, which I ordered medium rare. The first few bites were relatively good, nothing really special to be honest, but as I got further into the steak noticed it was cooked extremely uneven as the bites got more raw as I went. The remaining bites were literally cold red raw meat in the center. We ordered dessert, which was the Buttered Cake (?), which admittedly was the best part of the experience there. Overall, it was an experience I could have had at Applebee's. I was not impressed with the service, the staff, or the food. For the prices you pay to eat there you expect a level of decorum and attention, none of which we received. Will definitely not visit ever again, and would never recommend this place out of the dozens of expensive steakhouses in Chicago.
