My point in writing another review is to emphasize that in the years that they have been open they have done nothing additional to secure the property. Our last storage facility had the rolled barbed wire on top of their fence and we never had a problem there. The only reason we left was because the property sold and it was no longer going to be a storage facility. Bergstrom Storage doesn't care. They will just rent to the next rv owner that walks in the revolving door. That is why it is month to month I suppose.

My intention with this review is to inform you of things I've learned from using Security Self Storage on S. Lamar. 1. I chose this particular facility because the location was convenient for me and the rates were lower than an indoor climate-controlled storage unit. **What I've learned is that outdoor storage units are more open and accessible to vermin and mold. This means your items can be chewed on and scratched up by critters (rats can file down their teeth by chewing on the corners of pieces of wood, like your furniture!). 2. This storage facility requires you to buy your first month of insurance from Xercor (Old Republic Insurance Company), which is self storage tenant insurance. The premium is $10 per month. After the 1st month of using Xercor, you have the option to switch to any personal insurance you may have. **Xercor is there to give you a false sense of security for your belongings. If you file a claim, don't count on them doing anything except giving you the runaround and requiring lots of repeated work from you. It took me months to get through their process and had to send my claim (paperwork & photos) 3x before they could even find them (I eventually had to send my paperwork by "snail-mail" & suggest they check their spam folder for my photos -- which they eventually found) only to tell me that "the burden of proof has not been met". I was also told I did not follow the appropriate step of contacting the facility manager first -- which is not true. It's the 1st thing I did (I pulled up my cell phone record to show the exact date & time). I had spoke with the assistant manager, who told me to contact Xercor. Both Xercor & the facility manager (who I was able to speak with once she was back from vacation) used that infamous non-sequitur reasoning of "well, no one else has reported that". So I guess that means I'm lying? Not everyone is willing to or has the time for this level of hassle. Unfortunately, there's not much a consumer can do except for filing a complaint and a review. 3. Spend the extra money for an INDOOR facility (NOT AN OUTDOOR) - SERIOUSLY!!! I know moving/storage can be costly, but we had thousands of dollars worth of items negatively impacted. Even if Xercor had approved my claim, the coverage is up to $400 (after a $100 deductible). Here's what Xercor's marketing team came up with for their brochure: "Peace of Mind - It is convenient. Your belongings are covered the moment you elect coverage and pay your premium." Such a joke!!

They only pay out if there's visible damage, even if the theif cuts the lock off and takes it the insurance will not pay. Nice people but please don't be lulled into a false sense of security. These guys are incredibly helpful for any step of the way. The online tech is dated, but, if you can get past that (and you really should), then this should be your only storage facility to use in the area. I literally drive across the City when I need storage, because they give me such great piece of mind. It is worth noting, this place is incredibly well lit. It started with speaking with Steve (One of the owners) about four months ago, as I informed him that I was moving 300 miles to town suddenly and desperately needed a place to store all of my stuff. Steve promised to have a specific size reserved for me, and if they didn't have a unit available when I moved down, that he would let me use his personal garage. That wasn't necessary though, as Steve made sure there was a space available (With about six hours notice from me, once I finally discovered when I was moving), and handled all paperwork over the phone as I was in the middle of a five-hour drive, leaving a lock in the unit because he knew I'd be getting there late in the evening and didn't have a fitting lock. My storage unit was spotless, the entire storage complex was/is spotless, and he was completely understanding and provided incredible customer service when I needed emergency access to my unit at 5am the next week. I've spoken to Steve a couple of times since. He was kind enough to remind me of my due date after I missed payment two months later, and didn't charge me a late fee because they're good people. I just finished a phone call with Steve's son, Mike, who provided equally great customer service and was incredibly accommodating to my requests. I'm removing my things from their unit, only because I've found a place to live in Austin. I would gladly drive back to Buda to continue using their services, because of the amazing customer service I've received. There's no need to storage unit shop. Call them today. Calling and talking to any other company is a waste of time.
