HORRIBLE. RIPOFF! They charged me for additional insurance I declined at the time of renting the storage units. I informed them at that time that I already have coverage through my renter's insurance company. They charged me anyway adding it to my monthly bill without any authorization. Now they tell me that they will not refund me on the monies they took without authorization. I have called and their customer services abysmal. Had I known their methods of deceit I certainly would not have rented storage from them. read more

I rented a storage and my move was changed. I contacted this location within 24 hrs to cancel my storage facility. Let me be clear, I canceled 2 days before the scheduled date of use. I contacted the office and left several messages. I finally had to contact corporate to cancel the reservation. I was supposed to receive a refund, nothing yet. I called again today. The refund if received will be 12 weeks in the making. Use a different company. read more

Trying to make me pay the full month of February when I was out and unit was empty before 2/4. Won't work with me on prorate or full payment since explaining I won't be able to pay til next paycheck. I vehemently recommend against renting from this location. They charged me $99 "chargeback fee" for a banking issue that they can't prove even happened. In fact, I've sent numerous documents from both their website and my bank showing that each month had been properly paid. (Not to mention this fee is illegal since it's not stated anywhere in the contract.) I couldn't get any sort of response other than, "Yeah, my boss says it's a chargeback fee, and I can't remove it on my end. Sorry." Unsurprisingly, I received exactly 1 phone call - the first day AFTER the date where they could charge me a "late fee" - recommending that I call the district manager directly and she'd give me a callback after her morning meeting. Did just that, have not received a return phone call. Then, 2 days after this extra payment was due (so the 8th of the month), they assessed a lien fee for non-payment (the contract states fees are assessed after 31 days). I've had to escalate everything to their corporate Dispute Resolution and am still fighting it - all while they threaten to auction off my items (because the location won't address it, so I'm at the mercy of the corporate timeline). Basically, they just run scams to find ways to get you to have to owe them more money. Save yourself the headache and the fees and find another storage option! read more

Meh - really hard sell on their storage insurance, even after I told them that my homeowners insurance provided me with coverage. Um yeah. I stored my stuff here for two months at which point I discovered that it had basically rained in my storage unit! Most of my things were water damaged, furniture, clothes and anything in a cardboard box. I will NEVER trust them to keep my things again. Additional info: my unit was on the fourth floor (close to a leaky roof?), unit 4210. Insurance is required, so hopefully I'll get done money to replace things. I almost never write negative reviews, but this was one of the most upsetting experiences I've had with a company. My father passed away suddenly and he had a unit at the Public Storage in Oak Hill, a unit he had rented for more than 10 years. Unfortunately, he hadn't listed anyone as a beneficiary who could access the unit upon his death. I understand that the company needs to make sure the right person accesses his unit, but the process was lengthly and completely devoid of compassion. It took more than six weeks for my request to pass through legal. In that time, they continued to call me asking for money, even though they knew my father had passed and this wasn't my unit (and I didn't even have access to the unit). The people who called seemed to have no knowledge of my situation and just asked me for money. I told them I wouldn't have access to my father's funds until the will went through probate, but they called anyway. When they finally agreed to give me access, I paid my father's bill with my own credit card so I could just get the process over with. I only had one month of back payments to make, and with the late fee, they charged me more than $700 for two small units. I realized that they had been charging my father extremely high rates because the price increased every year. His health and age prevented him from moving into a new unit (he never told us about the situation or asked for help) so he just kept paying more and more. I could have fought the late fees, but I was just too tired. I just wanted to be out. Because of my difficult and vulnerable situation, I felt taken advantage of too. The only bright spot was Jesse, who was nice to me and my mother when we came into the office. This was the perfect example of a corporation that values policies and procedures over people and doesn't train their staff to be kind and compassionate. read more

Jesse was extremely helpful and even tried to talk faster because we were in a hurry! I was surprised at how much paperwork and information we needed to go over but Jesse was a trooper. You will have to buy a lock for your unit which I think was $20, unless you already have one. We didn't and I just assumed it came with the unit. We got the first month for $1 + insurance and application fee so it came out to $100 including the lock. The facility is clean and well-lit and very easy to move in and out. They even have a covered area you can park under in case it rains. Great experience even with the surprises. read more

Jesse is nice, but the measurements for rooms are not accurate. We leased a 5×15 and it is only 4'3"×15. That's an "approximate" 15 sq ft difference (i.e. a washer and dryer, a dresser, etc.). Make sure you measure before signing your paperwork. They offered us a larger one on the 3rd floor due to the discrepancy, but we needed first floor. read more

I was not as fortunate as the other reviewers in my experience with this Public Storage location. As this was my first encounter with a self-storage unit of any kind, I did not have the fortitude of experience behind me in what to watch out for. Thanks for the misadventures at Public Storage, I do now. Allow me to take you through my adventure, which begins online when looking for a unit large enough to contain a 1 bedroom apartment's contents. I found Public Storage's website, which claimed to have some discount pricing if reserved through the web. Perfect, I needed a first floor unit this coming weekend, so I clicked "Hold to reserve your unit" online and went through with the process. A few days later I get a call informing me that the term "reserve" apparently doesn't mean the same thing at Public Storage as it does anywhere else in the world. Due to seasonal demand, my unit apparently could not actually be held, and I must come in right away to book it or risk losing it. RED FLAG #1. This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where a rental car company was good at *taking* a reservation, just not good actually *holding* a reservation. At this time I was out of town and could not make it there even if I tried. I was told that I could switch my "reservation" to an upstairs unit of equivalent size if I paid more money. When I asked about the web discount, I was told I had to go through the website again. Fine, odd process but fine. I'll go ahead and do that. A day or two later I got more calls from a different person who asked me again to come in right away or risk losing the unit due to seasonal demand (seriously?). I repeated what I had told the previous agent, and that's when we both found out that somehow through this process, I now have separate three units pending under my name. Eventually this mess was untangled and I was scheduled for just a single medium sized climate controlled unit. Everything was looking up. Finally, the weekend came and I went in to actually rent the unit. The process appeared pretty hassle free at first. I was shown the unit, which I found to be an adequate fit for my needs, and then I signed the paperwork. As I was leaving, I noticed the little keyring I was provided had a slightly different unit number, and came to find out I was actually shown the wrong unit. Turns out my actual unit is much smaller and lacks a light as well. RED FLAG #2. At this point I made a mistake of continuing to trust Public Storage. I thought, so long as the unit is sized as advertised, then my stuff will still fit (because I had measured all of my furniture out precisely). These storage units can't possibly lie about their room sizes, right? Wrong. RED FLAG #3 is when I came in with an actual tape measure the next day and found that my 10'x10' unit was actually 9'x9.5'. This discrepancy is actually a big deal when you've got everything measured out and have some furniture that truly requires that length. There is also what looks like a 3 inch rain gutter on two of the sides. I was then told the unit is right next to an A/C unit, and the gutter is "just in case" the unit leaks. Well that inspires confidence, glad to know there could be water running through the gutter, which makes the usable space even smaller since you obviously should not be putting stuff in there. I was getting desperate at this point for a true 10x10 or larger unit, so I asked for my options. Refund was out of the picture apparently. NO REFUNDS on the $25 administrative fee. My options were to move to a bigger unit for 250% the price, move to a similar unit upstairs unit for 150% the price (why would I do that?), or stay with the one I have. I decided at this point I was done with this company, and I don't care if I had to pay more money elsewhere, I was not going to give Public Storage another dollar. Thankfully I found another place in South Austin called Extra Space Storage. Not only was the place super clean, the unit they had available was also larger for cheaper. To give you an idea: A 10x13 unit here was $50/month LESS than a so-called "10x10" unit at PS. I honestly should have just came here to begin with. Plus, Extra Space Storage actually prorates you on your move out date, unlike Public Storage, which if you go past like the 3rd of the month or something you need to pay the full month (even if you move out on, say, the 5th of the month). I will not do business with Public Storage ever again, nor recommend this place to anyone. Like most places, if everything goes well, then it's not hard to provide a positive experience. If that's your experience, then I'm happy for you. However if anything goes wrong, like it did for me many times, don't expect Public Storage to do the right thing, even if it's completely their fault. This is a company that will rather cite policy instead of correcting their mistakes. To Public Storage: I hope the $25 fee you got from me for a unit I never used is worth this negative review. read more

Not a good experience. I can't completely, blame the company or say the facilities are bad, but I do have something to say about their staff and their payment processes. DO NOT SET UP AUTOPAY! And if you do, you better make sure you don't listen to Jesse and read the agreement. Jesse will tell you that you have until the 6th to cancel for the month, only paying a prorated rate. This is not true if you have set up autopay. If you have autopay set up you have no way of being refunded for the time you are not using their facility for the remainder of the month. This is the year 2013 and they state there is no way to refund the money. This is a total lie and crock of you know what. These things can be done it they want to make their customers happy and be returning customers. But this place doesn't care. They won't refund my money and they want to rent my place for this month. Crooks. I told them to cancel my vacate request as my unit will stay empty this month. Again, the place is good but don't trust the staff. read more

I've had my stuff here for a few years longer than I intended originally. While I'm not a fan of how prices have gone up every year, (lately every 6 months), I understand that market conditions support these price increases. That being said, this location is located on SH71 and S Mopac, so it is very conveniently located. There is electronic surveillance and controlled access. Most units are climate controlled, and the elevators and trolleys are well maintained as is the entire facility. In short, these are all reasons to justify higher prices. What's really stood out lately is the care and customer service that Kim and others have shown. As sometimes happens, the Autopay didn't occur because we got issued a new credit card. Most places would've been happy to assess the late fee and tell you after the fact, but Kim gave me a call to let me know that there was a problem and instructed me on how to go online and make the payment before I got hit with late fees. My moving company placed my things at this Public Storage location, and Jesse helped me out when I came to check up on it and pick it up, even with our very grange circumstance.
