Do not use this storage - please be warned. I have filed 2 police reports and a BBB against this place. I rented in September since I was moving. I got an inside unit and pre-paid. I had the unit less than 2 weeks and it got broken into the NIGHT I moved everything in to it and then the next morning when I discovered the crime - I noticed that 4 other units were also broken into. I informed the lady who came at 9am and she just used her foot to push the belonging back into the other units and then closed the door. She then explained to me this happens often (wish I had known that) and that its easy to break in and she thought it was an inside job. 2 days later, after reinforcing the unit, it was broken into again. A day later - I get an email that says my unit was left unlocked and I need to come fix it - I asked and the lady goes, oh that was an accident. It made me wonder if the other property people were informed their unit was EVERY broken into. Flash forward - I've spoken to 3 different people (Shanna, Jeffrey, Misty) to get reimbursed for Sept ($133) and it was approved by District Manager Trey but now its the END of OCTObER and the money has not returned to me and my understanding is they fired the women who TRIED to help me and all their locations dont answer their phone now. Trye won't answer - I've left him multiple messages for accountability. This place is a scam and there are multiple break in. The same owner of this location owns the Westgate location too. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE WITH YOUR BELONGING. read more

This place is riddled with rodents. I had to throw away half of my things bc of mouses coming into my unit. We deep cleaned what we could and covered holes they made the first times.... and we totally thought it was going to be ok for another month, BUT I just went to check in and saw a rodent on top of my remaining things. The insurance through public storage sucks, and the front desk was no help. Find a better place to put your things if you care about them. I'm so sad to part ways with my beloved things. read more

While the prices continue to rise, Shanna is wonderful to work with, and access is amenable to what I need.

Did everything online and received several emails to confirm my rental, location of my storage and an access code to get in as well as having an access code to the door. I even have a an app to use to gain access without having to punch in so many numbers! Smooth and fluid! Will recommend! read more

RENTERS BEWARE. If I could give no stars I would. Have stored with them before and had no issues. Got a 10 x 15 unit July 2021. Went to clear it out this week and there was a dead rat and droppings and urine everywhere. Thousands of dollars in furniture (that was wrapped and chewed through) ruined and severely damaged. Boxes of keepsakes and clothing ruined and damaged. Went to file an insurance claim (which wouldn't have covered even a 1/10th of the value in the unit) and The Orange Door insurance company is a joke and said bc there was an untouched box of canned sparkling water in the unit, they aren't liable. I started out paying a reasonable price and over the year and a half I was there, they continuously jacked the price up to where I was paying $341 a month for the last year. There are much better indoor options in South Austin that don't jack the price up and keep their facility clean. read more

I needed some storage space so I checked out Public Storage's $1 deal... I reserved a storage unit online and the "total move-in charge" was, with admin fee, $25 for the first month. This doesn't sound like a $1 deal... I then went to the storage office to sign the paperwork and then the deal went bad... Suddenly, I was informed there were "extra" move-in changes that weren't mentioned when I first made the reservation... First, they charge you for their special built-in door lock that you're forced to buy, because regular padlocks won't work on their doors. Something that should be free or under $10 - they charge $21 for the lock... Then they put a big piece of colorful paper in front of me that said something about insurance. I said I don't need insurance, because the items I'm storing aren't that valuable and I already have homeowner's insurance that would cover the items. Nope, they said I must buy their insurance to rent their storage units. This was another $11... So, my "total move-in" charge ended up being $58. Not the fantastic deal it started out to be... The staff was nice and quickly checked me in, but these extra "unknown" charges spoiled everything... If they want to add all these extra fees, like overpriced locks and forced insurance, then these charges should be listed and "clearly" listed before and after you make a reservation for a storage unit. We used this location to store some things while trying to sell our house. Well, 1-3 months turned into a year and a half! We picked Public Storage primarily because they had the lowest rates in our area. Over that year and a half, they managed to nearly DOUBLE our rates. Every couple of months we'd get a notice that it was going up $10. Recently, we decided to pull our things out and cancel our storage room. While there, we met one other couple moving their things out for the same reason we were. We also met another couple literally moving their things 2 units down. They told us that as long as it's been Public Storage, their rates go up every couple of months. When the rates get too high, they sign up for a new unit (at the original lower price advertised to the public), move all their stuff, and start over with the lower rate ... only to repeat the process as Public Storage continues to raise rates every month. Jacob Mortensen, the Public Storage district manager is a BOZO and I would highly recommend steering clear of ANY Austin PS properties. He just charged me a $21.80 late fee on a 3.87 balance that was the fault of Public Storage. I moved in on 12/31 and paid for the first month. PS left a balance of $3.87 due January 1...THE NEXT DAY! Why not just collect it the day before? No, then you wouldn't be able to defraud people by tricking them into a late fee! Mortensen, who I have never met or corresponded with, sent me an email saying there was an urgent problem with my unit and I should contact them immediately. Fire? Water damage? I replied to the email and the email bounced back as undeliverable. SPAM ALERT! No, this is there method of making sure they can scam you out of a late fee. So today 1/31 I had to make a payment of $3.87 and tomorrow 2/1, I make my regular payment. That is insanely stupid for a business. They won't even take my rent payment for tomorrow today. What a screwed up place. read more

He really knows his stuff, and gave me lots of helpful tips which i really appreciate. He even got me a very open and visible unit in case I was there at night for safety reason, how sweet! Don't do it! My husband and I combined households a few years ago. We rented a unit at this Public Storage to store our excess stuff until we could figure out what to keep. We considered it an "offsite basement" at a reasonable price. Now fast forward a few years. They have raised the rent every few months to the point where we are almost paying double! They are even charging us $6 more than their normal rate (and I don't mean the "move in special rate" that is $28 less). I guess they figure existing renters will pay more to avoid having to move their stuff. So much for customer loyalty. The longer you pay them rent on time, the more they charge you. On the plus side, the facility is clean and our stuff has remained safe and dry. read more

This is no longer Shurgard Storage. When it was, it was terrific. For many years now, it's been a Public Storage facility. Woe to anyone who uses it! When I started off with Shurgard, the customer service was terrifc and the prices were reasonable. When it changed to Public Storage, prices when up hugely and regularly, the insurance plan changed frequently, and the Public Storage staff were rude and, at times, deceitful. Case in point: I was abroad, with my things in storage, and a friend came to check on them; the front desk person told her I was overdue in my storage and that if she didn't pay immediately, they would throw away my things. This was a lie; I had my bill automatically paid out of my bank account every month. She paid, and when I discovered this, I told Public Storage they owed her a refund. THEY REFUSED. They also refused to apologize. From Afghanistan, I had to go through the arduous process of finding out how this happened and then turning my bill pay off for one month and then back on (which is not easy when Internet access is iffy). The staff flat out refused to give me any contact information for corporate headquarters, so I could complain to higher ups. And then, just a few months later, THEY TRIED TO GET MY FRIEND TO OVERPAY AGAIN! In short -- don't ever use Public Storage. Stick with locally-owned businesses, with owners who are easy to reach. read more

Don't get sucked into the $1 ad. They don't have these units available so the first month ends up being $80+. I called within 24 hours to cancel and was told all that would be refunded was $19.47 and would not get that until five business days, that was ten days ago. I called the Austin area rep. His voice message said to leave a message and he checks his messages twice a day and he would return my call, that also was ten days ago and still no call back. read more
