Chicken Fried Steak
Tricia M.

This was a first time visit and the place was full when we arrived. It's a smaller local spot. We got seated fairly quickly and ordered. The people working there were friendly and helpful. The chicken fried steak is $19 for a full or $17 for a half. The full is huge and definitely had leftovers. The steak itself was pretty tough to chew and cut through and the gravy was more on the sweeter than savory side. It was lit bad just different than what I'm used to. Overall it was an alright visit, we think we would come back later in the day and try some of the sandwiches that were listed on the menu.

Brekkie, sub the gluten free toast option.

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. The current reviews do not do it justice. I had been out running errands, close to my house, when I realized that I needed to find someplace amazing for food! I found this gem on Yelp, and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant is absolutely full of locals who the staff knows and they know the staff. A sweet couple next to me told me to come try "German night" sometime (reservation needed). Excellent service this morning from Fiona and Ivy. I have my service dog with me, they didn't give me any flack, even tho my service dog need is not visible at first glance. I ordered the eggs, bacon, and potato brekkie. Normally their potatoes are deep fried yet I asked if they had a potato option for me that was grilled instead. They happily accommodated my request. I had the gluten free toast, which was this delicious croissant type brekkie bread. This was my first trip here, and definitely not my last. I think I've found a new local favorite!!!

Chicken and biscuit gravy etc..soooo good.

Some mor breakfast my family had after picking up at airport our first stop! Hash browns are super and not just the cooked frozen ones 95% of restaurants buy either: I often take half of them home for next morning to have with eggs.

New to the area and first time visiting.. Really enjoyed breakfast there. Nice little quint spot. The servers were nice and the food was good. Nothing spectacular but jus cool

Herb forward on the chicken fried steak and gravy which isn't bad but is different. I received great service and the place had the small town hole in the wall feel which I like.

Cozy cafe in Fircrest which has been serving up quality meals for several years.Three of us were well pleased with our choices for breakfast.Servers were efficient and the coffee mugs never got empty.Large portions can be a struggle but half portions are available for a few dollars less. Not a big place....two and three tops.Counter space.TV's are rarely on and WiFi doesn't exist.Hey!Have a conversation.Good food, breakfast or lunch.

Best. Chicken. Fried. Steak. In. Town. Years ago I found a random small cafe after a drunken night in town and had what I would later declare to be the best chicken fried steak ever. It took me years to find the cafe again, and I came back dreading for my declaration to be proven wrong now that I wasn't plagued by hungover cravings. I am proud to declare that they still have the best chicken fried steak after all these years. Seriously, if you love chicken fried steak do yourself a favor and try this one.

Once you walk in, it's like a step back in time where you get a bunch of 60s and 70s memorabilia that was just fun We got greeted by the person who was running the cashier and really set the tone for the visit, which was very friendly on a lot of fun We told him that we never been there before and he explained the whole menu and said that they're really good at cheesecake and breakfast items We had to order our food and then find out where we wanted to sit. The chairs were like old school chairs from like the early 80s, which was kind of cool to sit in. They called your name over an intercom, which means you have to come up to the register to pick up your food. I ordered a bloody Mary as you can see by the pictures and it was absolutely phenomenal spicy and picklely all the same time I highly recommend this place. We even took cheesecakes to go home later on with which we've already tried and they were absolutely phenomenal. The biscuits/muffins are very fluffy and they are probably some of the best in Washington state

Without a doubt this is one of Tacoma's best dining experiences. Chef Shawn's team is small but mighty. The staff that we encountered were all super kind and attentive. It's widely known that Chef Shawn has a radiant personality and treats everybody in his restaurant like a longtime friend. He walked around chatting with everybody personally, showed off dishes as he walked through the restaurant, and was even happy to let diners take a peek at his kitchen (how does he make all this magic happen on TWO CAMP STOVES?!) The menu isn't massive, but everything on the menu is executed with precision and grace. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but I've had my eyes on the Lobster Bomb for years. My husband got the "Tiny Burrito" which is quite literally the size of a newborn. The Lobster Bomb was excellent. Generous chunks of succulent lobster and the hollandaise was perfect! Subtle on the lemon flavor as to not overpower, but still rich and creamy. I tried my husband's burrito and the chorizo gravy is stellar. You could easily share this with 1-2 other people in my opinion. It lasted my husband two leftover meals! The restaurant itself is small but it's cozy and feels like you're at home. No frills, nothing over the top, nothing trendy. Just a relaxed vibe with lots of authentic touches from Chef Shawn. While this was our first visit it definitely won't be our last. Don't make the mistake I did and let years pass by before you experience Tibbitts!

The service is ways excellent here!!!! The vibe of this place is amazing. The jambalaya and cornbread is so mouth watering it would make you not share it with your one family. But here is the tea!!! I can see where some of the food needs improvement but most restaurants these days are in the same situation. My family and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, the booth seats were uncleaned from previous guests and taped like the seats were cut or cracked. The food came out hot which was the only positive but my eggs had black marks from an uncleaned griddle, the "house made" corned beef hash was atrocious and the veggie omelette had canned mushrooms. Nothing was fresh even the condiments on the table were only a third full, when the waitress came by to ask if we wanted boxes and I said only one she looked down at my full plate of food I didn't eat and didn't say a word. Would never return but hope to find much better eats next time I'm in Tacoma.

We came in at a good time as there were two tables with two chairs available so we were immediately seated and given waters and menus. The staff here are great about checking in often and being pleasant. The bathroom here is clean and they even have a changing station inside. The restaurant is clean and the staff come to refill or grab dirty plates quite often. My boyfriend got the lavender latte and two eggs and sausages while I got the smoked honey ham eggs benedict and a rose lemonade. I forgot that the specialty lemonades are not free refill but they do give you a lot. The lavender latte was soothing and the rose lemonade was light. The food came not too long after and the portions here are huge. My boyfriend's order came with a side of blackberry jam that was fantastic. I believe it is housemade and I need to see if they sell it because it is some of the best jams ever. Even has actual pieces of blackberry! I know for a fact that so many places undercook their bacon and it's soggy and limp, which is why I hesitate to spend much over $5 on a breakfast sandwich. The hostess/server asked us if we wanted anything to drink and I asked for water and coffee. I was surprised that she came out with a carafe of coffee!! All for me!! I guess it saves them time from going around the room refilling eveyones cup. We took a little time to look over their extensive breakfast offerings. They do offer senior items but it didn't say what age qualifies as 'senior'. Maybe 55? 60? Not sure. I ordered a pancake and my daughter ordered a vegetarian omelette with hash browns. We just decided to share our food. The omelette was packed with onions, mushrooms, bell peppers and cheese and was very good. The hash browns were crispy, just the way I like it. The meal also came with your choice of toast, biscuit or sourdough and my daughter chose the sourdough. She said it tasted old so she didn't take a second bite of it. The pancake was yummy. Really no complaints about it. The exterior and interior of the restaurant lives up to its name. The building is a big red barn. The interior is all wood and I think they only have booths. My bill was $88 and some change. I tipped $20 in CASH so on the receipt I wrote "cash" on the tip line then the total ($88.xx) on the total line. I woke up the next morning to an additional $20 tip added to my credit card for a total of $108 on my card + the cash tip. I immediately called as soon as I saw the charge (10am) and the woman who answered the phone was extremely catty. She took my number, told me the manager/owner was out and would return my call within a couple hours. I gave it until 12:45, called again, and was told he was still out. Between my husband and I, we had to call SIX times to get ahold of a manager/owner. It took 7 hours to get hold of the manager/owner Kevin -- who was apparently grocery shopping for 7 hours according to his staff. Initially I was only asking for the extra $20 the waitress had taken from me back but after having to disrupt my entire day and deal with this horrible experience for subpar food, we asked for a full refund. I woke up this morning (8/21) to a $0.00 credit being returned to my card. LOL We own a restaurant and have a combined 30+ years experience in food & bev. This experience has been shameful on Homestead's part. The subpar guest experience was not enough to complain about on its own but it has been INCREDIBLY frustrating to take time out of our busy schedules trying to get ahold of someone to fix this issue. While the tip refund is appreciated, we are in the right to ask for a full refund. At this point, we will be disputing the entire charge with our bank and will never return.
