I grew up in Oklahoma where devotion to chicken fried steak was surpassed only by devotion to the University of Oklahoma football team. And to be clear, any restaurant that calls the dish "country fried steak" should be avoided without further ado. Over many years of travel and living throughout the US, I have found very few examples of the chicken fried steak drenched in thick gravy I grew up eating. Today, I found an example that could be served with pride in Oklahoma. The Spring Lake Cafe makes a GREAT CFS. None of this is meant to ignore the rest of the menu of the Spring Lake Cafe. the O'Brien potatoes are delicious. The egg dishes are perfectly prepared. Having eaten there only once I cannot comment on other dishes. But I WILL be back! read more

Another 4 stars from this fam! Tonight we had the fish and chips and prime rib dinner, turkey tortellini soup and a piece of cheesecake and peanut butter pie. While I wouldn't say this is THE BEST fish and chips I've ever had, for $ 20 and all the food, options, and fast and friendly service, they truly deserve 4 stars. They always offer a variety of dinner options... The steak choices are always a hit in this house! Call early to get your dinner, they sell out fast! read more

Wow! This is a great find. We were warmly greeted upon entering and quickly seated. The server was attentive and made sure my coffee was kept topped off. They served up the best tasting chicken fried steak we've ever eaten. The gravy was incredibly flavorful -- not that tasteless gray stuff that a lot of diners serve. I'm not a big fan of grilled potatoes, but man, they won me over because these were seasoned just right. My only mistake was ordering the full portion entree instead of the half as I couldn't finish everything. Even so, that breakfast held me until dinner time. read more

typically, spring lake is excellent - our go to place for breakfast, but yesterday, 11-16 (Saturday), was a disappointment. ivey wasn't there and it was like the B team was in the kitchen and on the floor . the food was mediocre: eggs were runny, the hashbrowns were not especially fresh, and the bacon was thin and greasy. we will continue to go to the cafe because it is normally excellent. but we will avoid saturdays. read more

We were traveling with a toddler and wanted a place that was close by, quiet, and with good options for her. First of all, the service was outstanding - our server was kind and accommodating. Diamond in the ruff. Found this little spot when looking for a quick breakfast spot before visiting family in the area. This is smack dab in the middle of a residential area. We weren't sure if they were open because it seemed a little dark inside but we were welcomed by bright friendly faces and clean spacious seating. Definitely a locals spot where we felt very welcome. I ordered the cinnamon French toast and husband ordered the chicken fried steak. French toast is thick and fluffy and flavorful, side of bacon was cooked perfectly. Husbands chicken fried steak was tasty and portions of both were generous. We had to get to go boxes for our left overs, not a common occurrence these days. We arrived with perfect timing, because the place filled up fast. The open at 8 am we arrived at 9 am on a Saturday and by 9:30 a line to be seated had formed. We walked in and staff cleared a table and sat us very quickly. Service was great and we were able to order quickly. I got the fried chicken sandwich and my wife ordered breakfast. Her meal was well prepared and she really liked the cinnamon breakfast sausage. My chicken was perfectly prepared- crispy outside tender inside and the sandwich was well balanced and delicious. I found this place cause my husband's idea of a great breakfast is a chain restaurant. We are two extremes. We both enjoyed our breakfast. The home fries are amazing. The coffee... and we both are retired Army... I asked for something not as bitter. Event the waitress said that was their only brew and she wished they had more options. She assured us that we weren't the only ones that said something. I don't like paying for something that isn't drinkable. I wish that I could give 3.5 stars, but I rounded up. It was the eggs Benedict that made me round up. read more

One of the best breakfasts I've had in Washington. The chicken fried streak options looked amazing but I don't eat red meat so I asked if they had something similar and they made me chicken fried chicken(not on the menu, yet) and it came out perfect. This place seems to be located in the middle of cozy neighborhood giving it a very comfy homie vibe as well. I enjoyed my time there. Only thing that made me uncomfortable is when my waitress was talking politics to her coworker then asked me for my political opinions, she meant well but politics is not a topic I enjoy talking about during breakfast. read more

My food was really good. I had Chicken and waffles. The waffles were perfect!! The chicken was on the bone , just how I like it. I am not a big fan of breading and there was a lot of it. This is the only thing I would have changed. The service was PERFECT! Nice little, busy place to eat. Price is GREAT! There is no name on the building to know that this place is even here. Oh. My. Gosh. Found this place on a yelp search because we were looking for a new breakfast place, and we found the best scrambles and nicest servers we've had since moving here. We asked our server what she recommends, and she said the Ivy scramble because I'm Ivy. We were NOT disappointed! I ordered the Scottie scramble with apple sausage, potatoes, asparagus, onions and cheese. Ooey gooey awesomeness! If I had to find ONE thing to pick on, more asparagus please! :) Coffee isn't just hot brown water, it's FLAVORFUL, and their salsa is something I'd drink by the cup. This is truly a "hidden gem" in Fircrest. The quality of food and service is always 5-Star level. Although my favorite time to dine there is for breakfast, the lunch menu is outstanding as well. (Haven't tried dinner at SLC yet, but friends have pronounced it excellent as well.) read more

Came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Waited for about 10 minutes for a table. While we waited for our table we were asked if we'd like a cup of coffee and look at he menu. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was full of locals who seem to know each other. We were visiting the area and we thought our overall experience was great. Food was good. The employees were so gracious and told us the specials before asking. I wished only that the breakfast menu was available after 11am as I love real fast, but we couldn't get there until later. The food was great and nice crisp bacon, great quiche and the potatoes were crispy. They had a crab melt that looked amazing. The quaint place had enough tables for small groups of 2-6 people and they even helped my mom who was having a rosacea flare up with discreet kindness and some ice. The sign for the cafe was a bit small to locate as a new customer, but if I lived locally would be a regular. Thanks! read more

What's NOT to love about this absolute gem of a restaurant! Where do I begin... The employees are so nice, professional, and efficient... The food is absolutely delicious... What I cannot stop raving about it Thursday night prime rib night, oh my goodness! For $20-pretax (yes, you read that dollar amount correctly) they will give you a decent size steak (I am guessing 8-10oz?) cooked to your specifications, veggies, mashed potato, soup or salad, au-jus, horseradish, and.... a slice of either pie or cheesecake or something else (the deserts seem to rotate, probably 5 or 6 choices) - people, it's heaven!! This is the type of business that needs (and deserves) 100% community support during this crazy pandemic. Plan on getting carry-out since they do not have a lot of tables inside (due to the current state mandates) and call ahead... If there is no answer or a busy signal, don't give up, just know that it's because SO MANY PEOPLE know about this awesome deal. And it's not just Thursdays, they have great looking daily specials of different meals all the time and it seems most meal-deals are $20!! Established in 2002.

This resturant was established in 2002 by owner chef Scott Clement who grew up in the small town of fircrest where the resturant is located. Chef Scott is a well know award winning local chef who has spent the bulk of his career in the private club buisness. After four successful years and some critical aclaim the resturant was sold to persue other career challanges without ever taking his eye off his beloved cafe with a dream of getting it back someday. In march of 2011 Chef scott was asked to come back to his home and get the Sring Lake Cafe back on track.

I heard her mention she was using soft serve to make it. I'm assuming she's talking about frozen yogurt, but something just doesn't taste as good as I normally get anywhere else. I also noticed they use really shitty store brands whipped cream and i guess a lot of coffee places I do that but I think a lot more of them are making their own whip cream at this point in coffee etiquette evolution! Ok so the WORST part was the Red Bull cream spritzer, which is normally my go to FAVE drink! At this point it had been prob 10 min since we arrived and the main barista did mention they were training today, but she seemed almost as unsure as the girl who she was training. They kept looking up the drinks in the binder instructing them. I've been a barista before so it's not like I don't have empathy. When you make a Red Bull spritzer that has cream in it, the order you add the ingredients is important or you end up with a curdled drink. Immediately after she handed me my drink I could tell. She had added the cream on top of my drink and it was already curdling when I stirred it it bloomed. I pointed this out to them and she said they would "try " to fix it. I mentioned I knew there was a certain order to do to avoid this but I couldn't recollect it. I was with my little boy so I joined him in the upstairs loft seating for another 6 min they re made my drink I heard the main one say "ok add the cream first." I looked up on my phone how to avoid this curdling with the Red Bull And cream and found: https://www.thegunnysack.com/redbull-drinks/#h-can-i-combine-these-ingredients-in-any-order It basically says that The order is ice, RedBull, half and half, then flavor. If you pour the half and half directly on top of the ice cubes, it will coat them and freeze, giving the drink an unappealing texture. If you add flavor to the RedBull before you add cream, it will also not combine properly. Needless to say the second drink which wasn't even all the way full to the top, also curdled. I wish I could take my tip back but maybe I can save you a headache and $15.

I really like the employees because they were always friendly, polite, and understood that many of us were traveling to work and were in a hurry. Unfortunately, I had several negative experiences with the person who I was told was the manager. On multiple occasions, she was standing inside taking inventory while there were long lines on both sides of the building. On one occasion, the customer in front of me politely reminded her that people were trying to get to work and that inventory could be done during a slower time. Her response to that customer was rude and dismissive. I initially chalked it up to a one-time occurrence and continued coming back. Then, on another visit, she was the person working the window. When I pulled up, she asked, "Can I make you your white chocolate mocha or something?" I politely explained that I had never ordered a coffee drink there and that I always get one of the energy drink along with the other four ladies riding with me. Her response was simply, "Whatever. What do you need?" That interaction was the last we all stopped by there. It's unfortunate because I genuinely like the other girls who work there. They have always been friendly, professional, and considerate of the fact that customers may be on their way to work and need timely service. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because one employee's attitude can make a big difference in whether customers choose to keep coming back.

Ate here a few years ago- I don't know if Scott was the owner then or not- Worst dining experience of my adult life! Here is what happened- My wife and I were regular customers and used to come in every Saturday for breakfast. We would order two coffees and one omelette to share. I should also say we live right down the street and would have given him more business but the hours were very limited then. We came in one morning and ordered the same thing with a young, very rude server. She asked us if we wanted to split the meal (which was a $3 split charge) and then we would each get our own plates. We said "no thank you" and didn't t think anymore of it. The meal came on one plate. My wife ate what she wanted but is not a big eater and then passed over the rest to me. We felt like the whole time we were being watched, as if we were criminals perpetrating a crime. When the bill came, we were charged the $3 split charge. When I complained I got the " this is our policy" line from the snotty waitress. I informed her that she didn't actually "split" the meal- we just shared a meal. She steadfastly refused to take it off the bill. Wen I asked to speak to a manager or owner she informed me this was their rule and no one else would come out to talk to me. I informed her that it was not my "policy" to leave a tip to snotty waitresses and that she better take it out her split charge. I also said I was never coming back there and never have! No matter how bad or good the food at a restaurant is, I want to be treated with respect as a customer and I would want the establishment to actually want my business. They acted like they didn't care if I came there or not. I would not recommend this restaurant even if their food cured cancer! I have eaten all over the U.S. and in several other countries but have never been treated like this anywhere but in my own backyard! read more
