On our latest visit we had some amazing sweets that involved pistachio and once again it doesn't disappoint. So very delicious. I was really excited to find out there was a Sana'a Café here in Washington after recently moving from California. I used to visit the Sacramento location, so it was a nice surprise seeing one nearby. My review is mainly for the desserts since I still haven't tried the coffee yet (though I'm sure it's probably great too since they're known for their Yemeni coffee). The menu seems very similar to the Sacramento location, but I'm giving 4 stars because they don't carry the one dessert I've been seriously craving: Turkish delight! The Sacramento location has it and I was definitely hoping to grab some here but I didn't see any on display or on the menu :( The milk cakes were thankfully just as good and super consistent between locations. We ordered the pistachio milk cake and the caramel milk cake (different pricing, depending on flavor probably). Both were incredibly moist, flavorful, and just really delicious. If you've never tried the milk cakes here, I definitely recommend them. They taste high quality, for sure, and a perfect treat for a sweet tooth. I had my husband try one for the first time since he likes caramel, and he immediately said it tasted so fancy he felt like he should be sticking his pinky out while eating it lol. I told him it *is* around $10 a slice, after all. We stopped by on a weekday afternoon and the parking lot was busy and the café itself was packed, so it definitely seems like a popular spot. They also have a points rewards program you can sign up for with just your phone number. I'll definitely be back for sweets again. read more

This is a fantastic cafe. Both the food and drinks are phenomenal. I ordered a Sana'ani coffee and pistachio ricotta cake. The workers also gave me a free slice of strawberry cheese cake that I didn't order. The cakes were both fantastic. Not overly sweet, and tasted like real flavorings. Not too heavy or overbearing. Paired so nicely with the strong spiced coffee. I LOVE Yemeni coffee places. There are several in my hometown, as there's a large immigrant population there. If you're craving delicious coffee and tea with unique spices, blends, and flavors, this is a must try in the Tacoma area. The menu has a lot of variety in case you want a more typical American cafe drink. But the traditional Yemeni coffee options are delicious! The vibes inside were also wonderful. Chairs were comfortable, tables were a good size, and I was totally comfortable to sit and work for awhile. The music wasn't too loud which is perfect if you need to focus on work or want to put headphones in. It's a wonderfully calm, clean, and welcoming environment. We had a fantastic experience. We've been here a few times and it's a must stop now if we're in the area. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Great scenery, very clean and spacious, great for families! Now the coffee. If you love coffee and you've never had anything like this before do yourself a favor and try this place. I enjoyed the Yemeni coffee a lot. The pistachio ricotta is a MUST. Arabic coffee was very light, more like tea-it was good but not my favorite in the bunch. I tried some Turkish coffee. It's a dark roast. But it's yummy if you like that kind of thing. Very strong for refined coffee palate if you like dark black coffee, but it's so smooth. Very reasonable pricing. We all loved it. We were in the area and were curious about this place. I saw a bunch of posts about it on social media so I wanted to check it out. We got the honeycomb bread and one of the meat pies. We also got the Yemeni latte and a pistachio latte. I wouldn't say the food and drinks were amazing, but they're not bad. The service was not bad. It seemed like there was a bit of confusion regarding our order so it took longer than expected to get our order. This is a very clean and vibrant cafe. Its a great place to hang out and chat with friends or get some work done. I love the array of desserts and Yemeni drinks. I ordered the Adeni Chai served hot. They did ask me if I wanted to adjust the sugar level which I did say yes to. But even after adjusting the sugar level, the drink was still overly sweet. The drink was very fragrant and you could taste the warm spices like cardamom. But I think next time I would get it without any sweetness. The little pastries that I ordered was already sweet, so having both sugary desserts and sugary drinks together was a bit too much. The prices are your average prices anywhere else, about $5 to $7. I was a bit hesitant about walking in because I've never had Yemeni coffee before but I sure am happy that I did! Upon walking in and heading straight to the register, the young lady that was at the register was super nice and helpful when I told her that it was my first time there and I've never had Yemeni coffee. She recommended to me the MOFAWAR and I LOVED IT! It is medium roast coffee with cardamom, cream, and just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect hot drink for that cold, sprinkling rain day. It really did bring warmth to my soul and wake me up hahaha The place has a good selection of seats but I enjoyed sitting on the couch, sipping on my drink, and looking out the window. So so glad Sana'a is here. It's tucked into a strip of shops on the north side of 38th, next to the Wing Stop where the Starbucks used to be. They make Yemeni coffee and pastries and, as far as I know, this is the only place you're going to get those things anywhere around here! So far I've been in 3 times. I've had both the Yemeni style coffee and the Yemeni latte. Both are made with the same spices but Yemeni coffee itself is lighter than espresso. Either way, it's redolent of cardamom and cinnamon and something you'd probably like if you already like chai. The Turkish coffee is revelation. I thought it would be too bitter and strong but it was a revelation. And the pistachio pastry was chef's kiss. On top of this all, the servers are so pleasant and there's a wonderful nook to the right of the entrance where you can hunker down and get comfortable on a cushioned banquette. I really love this place and am so glad it's come along, especially now that Tacoma has lost another one of its best coffee shops, Common Ground, where they used to make a great cardamom latte. read more

Yemeni coffee!!! This is a California chain that expanded to Washington and opened their only cafe in the state in Tacoma! Saw the great reviews and finally stopped by. Inside this place is beautiful! Modern and high end decor with foreign music playing. Ordered a latte and I liked that they serve it hot. Coffee flavor was a bit stronger than other places but I enjoyed it! Ordered pistachio milk cake and an almond danish. They warmed up the danish for me and brought both on a beautiful gold platter! Milk cake is very similar to "tres leches" cake. I was pleasantly surprised with the almond danish, it was really good and probably the best thing I ordered. This place is popular and I can see why! This was our family's first time visiting this café, and we absolutely loved it! We found it on Instagram and had been wanting to try it for a while. We had never tried Yemeni coffee before, so it was a new experience for us. We ordered a small pot of the Arabic Light Roast with honey (light roast coffee with cardamom and saffron), pistachio ricotta cake, balloriyia, and baklava--everything was delicious. The coffee was incredibly flavorful and aromatic, unlike anything I've had before. It was almost like a cross between coffee and tea, and so enjoyable. We'll definitely be coming back! When I heard Tacoma was getting a new Yemenite coffee shop I was so excited!! And boy I was not disappointed. Back home in Israel, the Jewish Yemenite community is such a major and vibrant part of Israeli society- from their culture, music, spices and of course their food! And given I'm so far from home, I couldn't wait to try Sana'a cafe! Here are some of the things I loved about the place: * The staff were so nice and attentive. * The place has a clean and modern look yet it keeps its Yemenite aesthetics and charm. * The Baklawa was moist and delicious. * And the highlight for me was that fact they actually use REAL PISTACHIO "sauce" for their drinks rather than artificial syrups and sweeteners like most places. This is a game changer! I do have to say one thing- honestly I would hold off on the "generic" desserts. Yemenite cuisine has so much more to offer than "Oreo Cheesecake" or plain croissants. I hope the owner and the team will be able to add more Yemenite treats like Lachuch, Malawach, Kubaneh or even Jachnun (for those who know). This place has great coffee and wonderful staff. it shows off the beautiful culture and it reminds me of my own. The way they serve chai and the respect they put into their coffee/pastries and the customer service just feels warm, cultural hospitality, ethnic in the best way possible. If you're Middle Eastern or South Asian you'll definitely love this place.. I will say, though the coffee is a bit pricey, considering the size. I think it's about 16 ounces but around 8 to 9 dollars depending on what you get. But regardless, I think that with the customer service and the quality pastries/coffee it's definitely worth it. This new cafe was certainly nice on the inside and the service was good, but for the price of each 16oz coffee being $7+ you would expect to get a full 16oz; instead we got two coffees that were 75% full....not worth the $15.70 we paid. The coffee itself was meh tasting, no real standout in flavor other than a burnt coffee taste. The pastries looked nice, about 15-20 dessert options, lots of cheesecake, I can't say I'd go back for coffee, but maybe try a dessert. read more

Finally!!!! I'm from Fort Worth Texas and there's a splurge of Yemenite cafes that are open as late as 2am. So when I heard this shop was here out of the blue, I screamed in excitement. I love that these shops are open late and there's a space for those who don't do bars and alcohol to just chill with their friends and family or study late. The kind stranger behind the register was super sweet, welcoming and patient while my husband and I sifted over the menu. My husband took a little time since he's not used to the menu but he ordered the black tea with cardamom and mint and I could smell his tea from my side of the table and I knew it was a solid cup. He loved it. I was going to order the Mufawor (regular) but they had a special with pumpkin so I ordered that cause why not? It's Halloween. I normally take my coffee black but I wanted to know what it was like with sugar. I honestly should've just had my cup with no sugar cause the sweets we got were soooo good but being Asian I had to balance the amount of sweet (just a personally preference). My husband and I got the one of the baklavas and the ricotta slice. I LOVEDDDDDDD the ricotta cake. I haven't had a cake like this one before and I was a little confused as to why it was just called "Ricotta" maybe someone can educate me.
