I'm glad I chose this shop! Popped by Tacoma for a day trip and decided to check out Common Ground. The shop itself is clean, quaint, with plenty of foot traffic, whether it be a quick grab & go to people reading books, working on laptops or chatting away. The baristas taking orders were so kind, and quick to compliment. Now the coffee... delicious. I asked for a cappuccino with a splash of vanilla and they exceeded expectations on a solid cup of coffee. Also grabbed the GF marionberry biscuit out of curiosity. Tasted like a dream. As we prepared for a flight back home the following day, instead of trying out a different coffee shop, I knew I wanted to come back. Highly recommend stopping by - I believe it's worth it!

A cozy coffeehouse in a rather small strip of shops. Parking is rough, they only have a couple spots in front of the entrance and then there's street parking. I noticed the majority of customers arrived on foot during my visit there. However, once you get inside the ambiance is lovely. They have a sofa and lounge chairs, bar seats, and tables. Staff are friendly and were quick to make my latte. The handwritten note on top was a nice touch! Flavor was well balanced and not too sweet. I also got the nutella brioche, warmed, which had a melty dollop of nutella in the center, yum! I only wish that prices should be clearly printed on their signature drinks, rotating menu, food menu, and bakery items.

Cute little coffee shop in a small mall-strip. Aesthetically, it's very cute - and was packed when I came in today at 2:00. They were out of most of their recommended pastries, but I opted for a strawberry biscuit. This was good, I love the strawberry jam - seems homemade and the biscuit was great warmed up, not too dry. I love their shaken espresso options! I'm a big fan of latte's and shaken espressos. I ended up getting an oat-milk, blackberry shaken espresso and it was good. This is tied with Curran Coffee as far as my 'favorite Tacoma coffee spots'. I've been looking for the 'best coffee' shop in Tacoma. I'll still be looking, but this place is great. Their merch is also really cute, they have a lavender hoodie ($60), if it was a pull-over I'd probably buy it. :) Check out my Yelp for other Tacoma-based coffee shops.

I was staying downtown on a work trip and this coffee shop was as right up the hill. I got a cortado and an iced americano. Both were amazing. Their espresso beans are top notch. I even bought a bag to take home. I am going to order more of this coffee online. I got a gluten free bacon and egg sandwich to go. It was delightful. The barista was friendly and drinks came out in a timely manner: This shop would be where I'd go to study or come for a relaxing morning coffee. They put sweet quotes on their coffee lids which was a great reminder I matter. I'm not sure how to explain this shop besides it has great vibes and energy. Couldn't recommend this shop enough. If you're local or just passing through and need a coffee recommendation, this is your shop!

I think this was my second time here but definitely still impressed. Their seasonal drinks are crazy good. I got the Cardigan latte which has cardamom and black salt. Has a very interesting but tasty flavor profile. Snagged a morning roll which is like a flaky croissant wrapped in a circle and mixed with sticky sugar. Pairs really well. Decor is awesome and super welcoming. Currently it's dressed up for the holidays. When I showed up there was only one person behind the counter and the place was about 3/4 full. Super nice and attentive and was banging out drinks like she had been doing it for decades. I have been, currently am, and will continue to be a fan of Common Ground coffee.

Such a warm and peaceful spot! The baristas are incredibly kind and friendly, and the whole place feels calm and welcoming. Perfect for quiet mornings, good coffee, and a little pastry happiness.

We came to common ground for a quick coffee and snack while we were in town visiting. The inside was really cute and I would have loved to come back and enjoy my coffee there. We ordered hot and iced lattes and we all loved our order. I got a lavender iced latte which was delicious! We also tried a yummy croissant with everything bagel seasoning. The staff was nice and answered our questions and came out with our drinks and food quickly even though they were busy. I'd recommend checking them out!

Such a cute little coffee shop in Tacoma! The cozy sit-down area and great menu selection make it a perfect spot to relax. The vibe was amazing -- they offer delicious breakfast options, fresh pastries, and have a friendly crew behind the counter. Service was great, and I'd highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Easily missed so look for the little strip plaza. The music store is vacant but if there's still a red piano on the roof then you can't miss it. About 17 parking spaces and street parking. They have their permanent menu on the wall. Typical espresso, coffee, matcha, lattes. The on line menu does not reflect what they have in store. It needs to be updated. I asked for the most popular and I didn't feel like coffee. Ended up with strawberry matcha. It was the perfect drink. Fresh strawberry purée on the bottom, milk, and very lite matcha. It wasn't the bold, earthy strong flavor. You still taste the matcha but it was well mixed together with the creaminess from the oat milk. Also tasted Thai Tea and same, it was not your typical strong black tea with ton of sweetness from half and half. It says, "splash" of half and half so this drink was also lite in traditional flavor. I really enjoyed the color scheme of this shop. They had merchandise with great soft quality. We bought one of the dad hats. I would have gotten a hoodie but all was left were XL and above. I also love how they hand write an inspirational note on each cup lid.

Common Ground -- Where Midnight Crush Is a Daydream in a Cup Tucked into the heart of Tacoma, Common Ground Coffee is the kind of place that makes you feel instantly cooler just for walking in. It's got that perfect blend of cozy charm and plant-filled serenity, with baristas who know your name (or at least your drink order) by the second visit. But let's talk about the real star of the show: the Iced Midnight Crush. Midnight Crush: A Flavor Love Story This drink is pure magic. Blackberry, vanilla, espresso, and oat milk--shaken over ice like it's auditioning for a cocktail bar. The result? A velvety, berry-kissed caffeine hug that's equal parts refreshing and indulgent. It's got the depth of espresso, the sweetness of vanilla, and a whisper of blackberry that makes you go, "Wait... why isn't this a candle scent too?" Ambiance: Plant Mom's Paradise Meets Study Nook Heaven The space is bright, airy, and filled with thriving greenery (including a Monstera that could probably pay rent). Whether you're working, journaling, or just vibing with your drink, there's a seat for every mood--bar stools, cozy couches, and even a west-facing window for golden hour sipping. Service: Friendly, Fast, and Full of Flavor Knowledge The staff here are the kind of people who make you feel like you belong. They'll walk you through the menu, recommend vegan donuts from Dudes, and somehow remember that you like your chai with oat milk and a dash of sass. Final Verdict Common Ground isn't just a coffee shop--it's a Tacoma treasure. And the Midnight Crush? It's the kind of drink that makes you believe in love at first sip. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is worth the detour, the Instagram post, and the second round.

I've been coming to The Common Ground for a while now--though not as often as I'd like since it's a bit too close to home, ironically--but every visit has been a great experience. The service is consistently phenomenal, and as soon as you walk in, you're hit with a warm, inviting ambiance that instantly makes you feel welcome. The décor is beautiful and thoughtfully curated, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere that I really appreciate. It does get busy, especially during peak hours, so if you're looking for a quieter vibe, I recommend coming in the morning right when they open. Overall, I can only say positive things about this place--definitely worth checking out!

Cardigan Latte
Jesica V.

I love Common Ground. The cardigan Latte is my favorite latte in Tacoma and there's always a comfy place to sit even when it's crowded. The baristas are super skilled and friendly and when I'm not drinking coffee, the tea is good too! This is the rare spot that I can bring my daughter to, because usually she hates cafes (go figure). Really sweet spot. So glad they're here.

If you're looking for great coffee in Tacoma, then head up to Common Ground, located on Tacoma Ave near the Brewery District. Featuring specialty coffee from Indaba Coffee in Spokane, this welcoming cafe is a great spot to meet up with family & friends. Recommendation: Pair your coffee with one of their fresh local pastries or sandwiches. So good!

Being on STW (that is short for South Tacoma Way), I think this location has huge potential for attracting non-locals compared to their 6th Ave location (already established local reputation with regulars), hopefully they staff up to create more flexibility because a lot of times they're backed up on orders especially early mornings due to several crowd rolling in from Howdy Bagel across the street, they're also a bit stoic when it comes to simple greetings. Cortado is one of my favorite coffee drinks but I will not order from this location, today I ordered it with almond milk (which, for cortado of less than 4oz, the portion of milk is not very much but I paid a kidney for it, its my fault) it was $6.07. The barista did provide a tip for next time if I'm looking for a more fuller 8oz drink, I can go for a Flat White. I visit both of their locations fairly regularly and do appreciate this STW location that is closer to me. Parking is on street and has never given any problem finding a spot nearby. Great offerings of seasonal coffee drinks, and I enjoy coming here very early before the crowd hits.

They make their syrups inhouse, and you can tell, even a basic caramel latte tasted like the most delicate, handcrafted drink. They have fun seasonals, they're a hit or miss obviously based on your preferences, but I love them all so far. My go to drink pairing is a cardamon and ginger latte. The inside is SO HOMEY. It's rare to find coffee shops that haven't succumbed to the hospital white aesthetic, so this is so refreshing on the head. It is the ideal shop to study in. The cups and plates are my favorite thing about this place. The cups are handmade and just so stinking cute. The baristas are so welcoming every single time I come in, they look like they just love their job and love to chat with the customers. The outside of the shop is a mint green which really throws me off because the inside is so cute. The parking situation is a little limited as well, there's a few parking spots near the shop and the rest is street parking. They have a large selection of pastries and some food but know that if you come in the afternoon there probably won't be much left, they go pretty quick. We came here again as BECU is currently hosting an event where they let you enjoy a free drink on them and Campfire Coffee was one of the businesses that is participating! It's been a while since we stopped by so we decided to stop by again. I saw on Yelp that dogs were allowed but they are not, however they do offer a generous pup cup! I was greeted by an female employee and she was very professional, kind and patient as I was trying to decide what to get. She also showed that same positive attitude and mannerism with the customers ahead of me as well. The interior is so cozy and they even have a campfire set up which is great for photo ops or just to hang out at. Additionally, they have a corner with shelves of different things to enjoy while you're there too! I went ahead and got one of their seasonal specials: Grandma's Cabin Energy with light ice and my boyfriend got their Peppermint Mocha. I appreciate that she asked me to make sure I liked it before I left but she nailed it, all the flavors came through and it was the right amount of ice! The drink was so good that I forgot to take a picture! Love that they don't upcharge on flavors especially when a lot of other coffee shops do. We also had a conversation about how they have different seasonal menus and look forward making more creative drinks in the future. So glad to see that they are still making fantastic drinks, have stellar service, and offer unique drinks and food/treats.
