I'm doing a follow up on Valhalla Coffee. Still great coffee can be found here! I love getting Vanilla Lattes from here with oat milk! I don't make it to this coffee shop too terribly often... usually we are also looking for baked goods to nosh on while going to coffee shops but here it's straight up coffee... and that is okay! Since my original review seating has increased some which is nice. My last two recent visits here I was able to stay and hang out a bit. The folks that run the register as well as the ones that make the drinks are super nice and friendly which definitely gives one the feeling that they value your visit! read more

Valhalla is a pretty okay coffee shop. I wanted to walk around the neighborhood so I popped my head in for a quick caffeine fix. It was fairly early in the morning with one gent drinking his coffee and 2 people waiting for theirs. Based on body language I gather they had been there for a while (and were tired of waiting). I was promptly greeted and ordered my drink - mocha with oat milk. The people waiting had left meaning I was next. I'm not sure how long it was, but it was long enough that I read every single poster on the window, the entirety of the little local newspaper, all the things on the wall, and then still had some time more before I received my drink. The drink was okay. I think it's the type of chocolate they use for the mocha that doesn't really resonate with me. Add in the extremely long wait times and it's....okay. read more

Neat little coffee shop. Street parking wasn't a problem. It's a walk in coffee shop only. I'm glad it was because I saw the coolest coffee roasting machine ever. It would have been even cooler to see it running but I wasn't postive if it was a working machine or not. Valhalla Coffee is a unique coffee shop in all of Seattle-Tacoma, the ambiance is excellent with the retired coffee roasting machine setting the tone and the incredible owner who talks with everyone. Honestly? I feel bad for every other coffee shop in Washington. Not because they're bad, but because Valhalla just obliterated any chance they had at impressing me. The moment I walked in, I got hit with that roasted-bean aroma like Zeus himself wafted it into my face as a flex. Bold move, Valhalla. The latte art was giving "we actually care," which was a refreshing change from the "brown swirl of sadness" I've seen elsewhere. Then came the first sip. Smooth, balanced, and frankly, annoyingly good. Like, why are you this perfect? This is now my gold standard in Washington. This is an amazing coffee shop! Besides the cool vibe, you have a team that really knows their coffee! We ordered and had some great conversations with the regulars while we waited for our brews. They made me a drink with vanilla and honey. It was delicious! My only regret is that I couldn't get a bigger cup full of that magic! Great coffee, great people!!! read more

THEY COULD DO SO MUCH BETTER WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I felt entirely unwelcomed and judged by coming in here. I had been here before and the service was alright enough for me to decide to come again (it didn't leave much of an impression on me) and now I won't be coming back here. They have macchiatos on their menu and they have caramel syrup so I figured they would be able to make a caramel macchiato, super simple so I asked if it would be possible to make one (I just asked to see if it were possible, I didn't technically order it) and the barista said "This is not Starbucks, you can go there if you want a caramel macchiato." My thing is if they only have lattes listed on their menu but you're able to order a caramel latte because they have caramel syrup then they should be able to make a caramel version of the macchiato. Anyways, I ended up getting an iced caramel latte and it was BURNT. read more

Cozy & dark joint with all the cool house roaster vibes. A few vintage seating tables insides; nice nice. And a dope mural outside; I dig the dark red/black/white aesthetic throughout the space. If you love smooth dark/medium roasts - especially quality decaf, get yourself a decaf [oat] latte. So... SO smooth for a darker medium with nice feel. No spices which is rare but totally understandable and respect for sensitive handling around a roaster 10 feet from the baristas. All 'bout that aroma (mmmm, ahhhh). Small hole in the wall type of coffee place with fantastic coffee and very nice people helping take our orders. Espresso pulls are balanced, a few alternate milk choices and quick service. They have all their beans available in drip coffee. When picking a roast to take home, they showed their beans and gently shook the container filling the area with coffee aromatics. It's easy to see those roasting their coffee have experience, the Sumatra was evenly roasted to an appropriate amount of depth and darkness. read more

The baristas were quick and knowledgeable; they seemed more than happy to chat about their beans! I just ordered a regular cappuccino and I was in love. It's been a few days and I'm still thinking about it! Looking forward to trying their beans once I need to restock at home. I meant to try this business establishment when I visited in the past, but I am glad I was able to make my way back here. I didn't expect there was going to be a line but it was worth the wait. Staff was friendly, efficient and patiently managed the flow of patrons and orders as the line grew longer. Mocha was surprisingly smooth with perfect temperature. I spent several months last year traveling through Europe--visiting countries renowned for their coffee--and Valhalla easily holds its own against the best I had overseas. Within the U.S., and especially in Washington state, it's hands-down the best coffee I've found. I always order a decaf Americano, and somehow they manage to create a foam that no one else can replicate. The flavor of their coffee is unreal. I've stopped going to other local coffee shops for coffee altogether. I've been eager to finally stop by here ever since I discovered one of my absolute favorite coffee shops in the area serves Valhalla Coffee. I stopped by on a Saturday around noon and there was no line, but a few people inside enjoying their coffees. I got a cappuccino and it was amazing. Customer service was great also. The inside is dark and not much seating is available. This place is trying to be trendy and hipster but really it's just run down and empty. Barista was absolutely rude. Didn't acknowledge me even when I said "thank you" when she set out my drink and I was THE ONLY CUSTOMER in the place. The other two guys weren't friendly whatsoever either so it made sitting there for 5 minutes waiting when I was the only patron in the place pretty awkward. I cold-called Valhalla the afternoon before I was set to host a morning birthday party at my house to inquire about the possibility of ordering some kind of "coffee for a crowd." It would have been totally understandable to say "no" (it was an unusual, last-minute request), but instead the lovely Valhalla staff and owner hooked me up in the kindest possible way. They let me borrow a large thermal carafe system, provided two pounds of delicious coffee, and didn't even ask for any kind of payment. Expertly roasted beans, latte steamed to perfection, friendly barista who offered excellent recommendations for places to check out in Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula. Finding myself in Tacoma in need of coffee and Wi-Fi to work for a bit, I saw this establishment on Yelp. My wife knows of this place and recommended their coffee, but it was a lousy one star review complaining of woke communism that prompted me to walk through the door. I mean, how could you not try it, right? The true communists among you will be terribly disappointed: no red flags sporting a hammer and sickle, no glorious songs celebrating the Revolution of the People blaring in Russian over the sound system. What I did find was friendly baristas serious about coffee. Good coffee, at that. Fair warning: this place is all about The Coffee. Don't expect an extensive menu of baked goods or 52 variations on concoctions that may or may not involve coffee. Valhalla appears to cater to the serious coffee lover. If you are one - and you are not a card-carrying member of the Communist Party - I don't think you will be disappointed. I've lived in Tacoma for over 10 years, and somehow have only tried Valhalla coffee for the first time, last week. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and my goodness was it amazing. I'm glad I haven't tried this coffee until now, otherwise I'd be bankrupt from going here daily. I always can tell when a coffee shop makes good coffee based on how long it takes for them to make my drink. The coffee beans itself were perfectly balanced and all the different flavors and notes really stood out. The atmosphere is a great welcoming, and warm environment. A mixture of those walk in and go coffee drinkers, and those sitting down reading a book or working.
