I was recommended to come here from a guest that was waiting for our bagels at Howdy bagel. Long story short my GPS took me all the way here to 6th ave, which I didn't mind the little drive and me time but they have one right across the street from the bagel cafe is what the barista told me. Cold brew Coffee was delicious and strong and smoooth! I wish I remembered the name! Pastry was delicious. Ambiance is a corner spot, lots of space and seating if needing to sip and Relaxe or do some work. Parking is strictly on the street, I was lucky to find a spot right across. Bluebeard has been a staple on 6th ave for as long as I've lived in Tacoma. The espresso is consistently good and there's ample room to sit, but it does get busy enough that the place fills up with people hanging out and working on their laptops. The furniture and decor is definitely to my taste. They also roast and sell their own beans, which is cool. The owner is also really kind, which always helps set the tone for the entire experience. read more

This Bluebeard outpost is very different from the one on 6th Avenue but I love how spacious the industrial space is. As usual the coffee is excellent and the Mocha Golden Latte was an excellent unexpected pairing of chocolate, turmeric, and ginger. Got a chance to visit this place in the past. Coming back to this place, it still has a great atmosphere with a roaster displayed out in front, and a dark and inviting atmosphere. The service is friendly and fast. The coffee here is on the price of your side. I will have to say their latte and mocha are both incredibly well made and the milk temperature is perfect on both of those. I enjoyed those drinks, Unfortunately, they don't make pourovers, which is my go to drink. I was informed that they have other locations that do indeed make pourovers, but not this one in particular. Didn't feel welcomed at all when we walked in and the baristas were very uninterested. My friend and I sat for 10 minutes waiting for our drinks because they didn't notify us when it was done. My original review was pretty crass. I would say I'm a changed man over the past 10 years, but am I really? 10 years later, their lattes are still great. Bluebeard is probably one of my favorite Tacoma coffee roasters. With that said, a couple of obersvations: They have a very well designed marketing package. Great logo with blue plastic coffee bags. However, what am I supposed to do with the plastic bags when I am done with the coffee? Valhalla sells coffee bags in compostable paper bags. Their graphics and colors may not have the same sex appeal to Bluebeard, but the bags are much more environmentally friendly. Because of the plastic bags that Bluebeard insists on using, we have been buying less Bluebeard and trying to buy other beans that are more eco friendly. Tacoma local Valhalla, and Boon Boona are the two that come to mind. Coffee is just as good, with better packaging. We still stop here from time to time when we're in Tacoma, just wish they put a little more thought into being eco friendly instead of building a brand identity. read more

This coffee shop is very close to our airbnb. It was very convenient for us to grab and go. The latte was really good. It had both milk and coffee taste. They also have a selection of bake goods also. I had the croissant, which was buttery. We thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and would go again with visiting again. read more

This is an update to my original review. This time I stopped in with my daughter and they were open and it was lovely. The coffee shop is very spacious. There were people sitting around chatting, working, etc. My daughter and I each had a mocha, although mine was decaf w/oat milk. Wow! My decaf coffee actually tasted like coffee, and not just coffee, but really good coffee. You'd think this wouldn't be such a huge deal, but it's very difficult to find good decaf coffee/espresso. Best lattes we've ever had!!! We visited from out of state and talk about how good Bluebeard was all the time - we bought a bag of beans and took it back home in our carry on. The cardamom and blackberry lattes were amazing, had them everyday on our trip after trying for the first time. They also textured almond milk so well, the best I've ever had. A blog post I read ranked this as one of the top 10 coffee shops in Tacoma, and so I wanted to check it out. And then work from there for a bit. The decaf latte was very good! The baked good I ordered to go alongside it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I'd order again either. Sadly, the WiFi wasn't working, which foiled my plans to work from here for a while. The atmosphere is a bit industrial and feels a bit like a warehouse. This would be a fun spot to go and catch up with a friend over coffee, but not a good spot to do some work. read more

Wasn't a fan. When I walked in there was no one in line. I thought the shop was pretty cool. It was a nice large space. I stood at the counter ready to order as an employee was looking dead at me and continued to carry on their conversation with a customer who was waiting for their order. The other employee who was preparing their order was engaged in the conversation as well and talked for several minutes to that customer. I waited for a few more minutes and was about to leave to go to Starbucks before they finally decided to acknowledge my presence. They were talking about Star Wars. Stopped for coffee here when I went to Tacoma. It was alright! Got the vanilla latte. Nothing to rave about but it wasn't terrible either. I think the beans were a bit burnt and over roasted. Great little coffee shop nothing more to say beyond that I didn't get any food because well I'm just not a big coffee shop pastry fan. They did have good espresso won't happen and people enjoyed what they got with our group. Prices are about on par with what you expect for a higher end coffee shop plenty of seating and it's plenty of seating and lots of light and places to sit comfortably to talk with friends ranging in groups from small to large. They had a few couches even which is always welcoming because sometimes a hard wooden chair isn't great to sit in for a couple hours as you do work for socialize or drink a few cups of coffee. There's absolutely no lines here which I find really nice because it seems nowadays there are lots and lots of lines a better coffee shops due to understaffed...
