Ooooh, we love Moon Rise! Full disclosure, I know the owners, but I did not meet them until after we had tried Moon Rise. My favorite dish here is the biscuits and gravy, I get it with an egg on the side. Enjoy that with some coffee and it's weekend breakfast/brunch perfection! A while back they moved to a smaller location and I was skeptical but honestly, it's so warm and wonderful here and the environment is so great that squeezing into a smaller space doesn't bother me a bit! My wife and I ventured out to moonrise Café on a spot to have brunch in Lakewood. It's a very quaint and warm spot where we sell welcome. Well, I've had the club sandwich which she said was very good and I'll tell you what happened from the looks of it it was definitely good. I had the pastrami Benedict, I will say that that missed the mark. There are two reasons that really miss the mark. One of them was the hollandaise sauce, which was extremely runny and a very pale yellow, which told me that they added too much liquid to it, and there wasn't enough fat or it was just a powdered mix and they over mixed it, and it had no flavor to it. The main reason I was disappointed was the pastrami they used, they used deli, sliced pastrami and chopped it up. If you're going to have a pastrami Benedict on your menu, make sure it's actual pastrami chunks and it is tender. The deli pastrami did not have any flavor to it. I asked our server about it and she said that one of the other girls that worked there really liked it and she ate it all the time, but it was too spicy for her. I will tell you right now. There was literally no spice to that dish at all nor was there seasoning. I would go back and try something different as everything else on the menu looks good and I give every breakfast restaurant at least two tries. read more

I ate at this restaurant with a newly-made friend, and we ordered meals that were very filling. I only paid about $44 total with tip included for both of our meals, and I was very satisfied. The food was hearty, and there was nothing that I could really complain about. We were both quiet while eating because it was just that good. I would say that this is the best restaurantthat I went to in Lakewood, especially for the portion size with the carbs in your combo meal. I did not try the coffee myself, but my friend had a regular latte and did not have any standout comments -- it seemed just fine. We went during brunch hours, and the restaurant was pretty busy. There was maybe a 10-minute wait for a standard table, but we opted to sit at the bar area, which seats about 6 people. The staff were very attentive. They made sure that our water was refilled, condiments were available, and we were updated on how long the food would take. Our meals took about 30 minutes, but the kitchen clearly takes the time to ensure each dish is well-prepared. Parking was decent. They have designated spots for the restaurant -- about 3 of them at the front -- which is helpful given how busy the area can get. By the time we left around 1300 or 1PM, there was a line of maybe 8 people, so I recommend going earlier in the brunch window, like 1100 to 1200, or 11AM to 12PM The only downside that I noticed was that the space felt a bit tight. Navigating between tables was tricky. You could hear conversations from nearby diners, and getting to the bathroom required frequently saying "excuse me." It would be nice if the layout allowed for a bit more room, either by removing a table or reorganizing the seating. read more

Just moved to the area for work with the Army, and Moon Rise Cafe was the first place we hit up for breakfast. It's in a shopping center in Lakewood, so parking is shared. We got lucky and parked right in front. The staff greeted us warmly and merged tables to fit our group of six. We waited about 5-10 minutes--not a big deal. I ordered the Monte Cristo with house fries, and it was delicious! The portions were huge. Their biscuit with gravy was decent too. One area for improvement would be for the staff to be more courteous, hospitable, and friendly, especially when serving customers. Tbh I wasn't impressed when I came in because this is a little hole in the wall and the decor is a bit basic and dreary. Glad we didn't leave because this place has the hashiest hash browns I've ever had. If i had to guess at how they make it, I'd say they finely shred the potato so that it's almost stringy, then they throw it on the grill as thin as they can, flip it when it's crisp and as it finishes, they roll it up into a burrito, because the potatoes are crispy inide and out. This is the way ha browns should be done. The rest of the breakfast wass also basic, but satisfying. I ordewred the Classic Breakfast with sausage and it was a thick hand made patty of sausage and it was cool to see how much they care they put into it. We got there not long after open. It was a first time visit for us and we had heard mixed reviews. But, we're a try it ourselves mindset. They're a pretty small spot that seems popular. We both ordered the eggs Benedict. The English muffin was extremely difficult to cut, even with the provided steak knife. The hashbrowns were cooked that seemed to be thrown in a fryer almost to the point of burnt. We could smell them as soon as they hit the table. The hollandaise sauce was just meh. The restaurant is small and when we walked in all of the tables were full. This is always a good sign. There were a couple of stools open at the bar/cashier station so we took those. Scrambled eggs, sausage, patty, cottage cheese, and fruit. Steve ordered Choi's omelette, with sourdough toast, and cottage cheese to substitute the hashbrowns. While we waited, we enjoyed the happy atmosphere. Customers and servers alike. Diverse and comfortable. Since we were at the cashier station, most of the servers had to come around and they all seemed to be in pretty good moods, which says a lot about a workplace and how it is run. The service was on point. We were getting coffee and water refills without even seeing it happen. When the food came out, it was all perfectly cooked and all of the ingredients seemed really fresh. I was over the moon with the jam that came with the Monte Cristo. The interior is very cozy with the atmosphere of being inside a sweet mother's home. There are plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate as many parties as possible but they are a small restaurant that gets filled up quickly. Had this spot in my bookmarks and just happened to be in the area so I figured I'd give their breakfast a shot. The place was completely packed but was able to be attended to and seated almost immediately. These guys are on point, through and through. The service is amazing and can't say enough about how great the wait staff is. They're on the ball, hustling and bustling from table to table is a friendly engaging smile. Engaging in conversation while they're attending to everyone. Maintaining table needs regularly. I was impressed. Before I even got my check I slide a twenty over to my waitress. Told her that this is totally separate and just because. I also made sure to tip 40% before tax from my bill. They need to know that their effort isn't unseen. They're amazing here. Food was over the top. The hash browns are shaved almost like angel hair and perfectly crispy and spun into my fork like spaghetti. The eggs that I requested, over easy was perfect as well. Watching Gordan Ramsay shows has made me a bit of a snob when it comes to Eggs Benedicts hahah. The main star here, is the Pancakes. We got it with blueberries. The photo may be a bit deceiving, it doesn't show that the bottom of the bottom of the pancake has a nice crispiness to it. Love that they put the butter on the side for me too. Absolutely amazing food and service! If we lived closer this would be our 1 meal a day stop, as the serving was large enough to cover late breakfast and small dinner. Hostess was awesome, saying "perfect timing " as we were the last to be seated and served before closing. Casey was great! And I had a fun chat with another friendly employee about making pie crusts. Veggie eggs Benedict had healthy servings of avocado, spinach and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin with poached egg. Hash browns might be the best I've had. Super lil place located in the Lakewood Mall. Portion size is more then plenty even if your a big eater. You won't leave hungry. In our case there was way to much to eat and could have shared one meal between two of us. But now it's known for the next time when visiting family. Food was customized to what you liked and again bountiful. Service was a lil slower than other restaurants but I feel it to be from the cooks end and making your order to your liking so I'm not going to complain about it. Our drinks were constantly full as the waitress and assistant came by frequently to ensure so. Restaurant was calm and on the quiet side so it made it nice to be able to hear those in conversation across the table without yelling. Many people were known by name as they entered together into the restaurant and the waitress knew what they were going to order already. So it's nice to see it's a mom and pops type place and extremely friendly. The restrooms were more than adequate for those of us in wheelchairs and in the bathroom transfer from chair to facility's a breeze however getting through the tables is a bit narrow and makes navigation around them being needed to be planned out ahead of time. The pricing was fair for what you get. In our case It was $62.64 for the 3 of us and I failed to ask about any discounts being available. I normally ask after I've paid the bill so to not put any staff in an awkward position. I imagine if there's any it'd be anything but a veterans or military since McChord AFB is not located far from here. I'm sure they'd not make a big enough profit from the foods portion size and other costs for all the military coming in. My reviews are rarely a 5 star as there's always something that can be changed. In this case the only thing I can see to be improved upon would be access to the restrooms through the all the tables and chairs. I enjoyed the meal and whenever visiting the Washington State again for my wifes family this will be a place I'll return too. What a super fun little place! Upon walking in we were promptly greeted and seated. Every other seat was full tho- so that's a clue in on their food for sure! The restaurant is tiny, so not entirely sure how they would do with larger groups, but it looked like they could maybe move tables together for parties of around 8. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was nice and attentive! My daughter and grandma had the plain waffle ($5) with added strawberries and cream ($2), and it was absolutely delicious! It was large too! Definitely worth the price! The strawberries they used, were just sweet enough and not covered in a glaze! Definitely delicious! I had the turkey cranberry sandwich on wheat with home fries! Literally the best turkey sandwich I've ever had! We also had some hot cocoa- and the refills were free! That never happens! Easy to say the kiddo was happy! Love little places like this! All this time living in very close vicinity I've been missing out! It was busy but not so busy where I had to wait for a table. The service is friendly and they just make you feel at home which I love. They are super nice and the food is great! I enjoyed the very thing I got and don't have any complaints. I love that they know their customers it shows that they are attentive and they care. Sausage gravy is a big portion I got the 2 biscuits and it was more than enough to split between 4 ppl. Meat lovers omelette was basic but good. Matcha latte was velvety smooth and sweet. Overall I gave them 5 stars because of the service and although the food was basic it didn't disappoint.
