Sophia's is a very refreshing addition to midtown. We recently went on a Saturday morning and were impressed with the quality of food--and service, especially for counter service. The spread: American breakfast Crustless quiche Croissant Vanilla almond danish Drip coffee Orange juice We're admittedly pretty hard to impress when it comes to breakfast places--we're often convinced we can make it better at home--but the quality here really stood out. The complimentary refills of Provision-roasted drip coffee were an especially nice touch and absolutely a chef's kiss. Unfortunately, the pastries were the one miss for us. We hadn't tried Chaconne before, so we weren't sure what to expect, but compared with some of our Valley favs like JL and Proof, they fell short. The pastries we tried were quite dry and lacked much flavor, although the vanilla almond filling in the danish was tasty and helped add some moisture. It's possible we caught them on an off day, but based on this visit, the pastry case wouldn't be the reason we returned. Fully expected a brunch place that was just here for the vibes. Came out incredibly satisfied with the food, service, and overall experience. Located next to the Beadle building on Thomas, Sophia's mimics the design with a metallic exterior while introducing beautiful arches, soft earthy tones, and an open-air environment. It's worth a visit for the building alone (don't forget to check out the restroom), but I was so impressed by the food!! The hidden gem: Sophia's Burger. I know this is a brunch spot, but you can't miss out. As someone who has only occasionally *liked* burgers, I can honestly say I *love* a burger for the first time. The quality and cook of the beef, with a bit of pink, was superb. There's a perfect ratio of caramelized onions, comté cheese, and oniony sauce (no drowning in ketchup or mayo!!). And the fries were SO crisp and well-seasoned. The ever-so-popular French toast was a hit too. The caramel interior was deliciously rich, and the bread was soft but not soggy. It's incredibly sweet as French toasts often are, so I recommend sharing, but it's a nice decadent treat. Service seems to have found its flow, and we were quickly guided to an open seat on a busy Friday after ordering. Water and utensils are conveniently ready at a clean station. What a unique and fun place to visit! We decided to hold our small team meeting here for brunch and not knowing what to expect, two of us arrived first and found a table on the patio. We really wanted to be inside just because it was a tad cool and eventually a table inside opened up so I skirted over to claim it. The server came and cleared the table but never came back to wash the table. I just used a couple of napkins to sweep off the crumbs. And little did we know but eventually the entire glass wall was opened up and it was just like sitting out on the patio! I also want to mention parking! It is tight and not easy to find a spot and we discovered that you could park in empty spots over at the office building next door but it was a small parking area for sure! Very small place with limited table and counter seating. You line up and order, are given a table number and food is brought to you. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Seemed a bit unorganized at times but it seems to work for them! I noticed that when servers brought meals to the tables, they never picked up the little table numbers and then a bit later one of the workers came around and picked up all of the numbers from the various tables...interesting and wondered if it would work better to serve the table, grab the number plate and take it back to the serving counter. Ok, shrugs! They have a very limited menu but what they offer is spectacular! I decided to have the egg sandwich, which comes with this magnificent, very tender milk bread with egg, bacon, cheese, avocado, and a mayo spread that says spicy but wasn't in the least. Comes with a small cup of fried tots that have some of this same spread over the top. The presentation of the sandwich was like I've never seen...see the photos! I was so pleased and look forward to another visit to try something else! I also asked for iced black tea which turns out to be more like a mango or passion fruit flavored tea and was really nice. I also got one of the maple pecan muffins, which they call "handpies" to go for the wife. They have a great case full of handpies and other wonderful looking pastry-type goodies. This spot was so incredibly cute! When we arrived on Sunday morning around 11:30 and boy was it packed on a perfect sunny day. The crowd wrapped around the corner of the entrance and folks sat outside feeling the bright sun on their happy faces. There was a lovely lady walking down the line apologizing for the delay and wait but there was no need for us, as we were enjoying spending time together in line, as I came with my MIL and daughter. It was so sweet. The foods looked incredible coming out and on people's tables so we were able to largely see a visual menu, which was so cool. We ordered a good amount of to go goodies and for brunch we had French toast and the breakfast fried rice and the Everly smoothie. I didn't get it but saw it a few times, the salmon, and knowing it's coming from Chula Seafood as one of their local partners - I'm sold. Overall experience was fantastic, delicious food, great service, attention to details, and the stickers they have that are free are soooo cute. I understand why the trend and how it got so popular and viral. But it's worth it and I'd wait again in that 45 min line to enjoy! They had open windows and light airy decorations that made it seem bigger than what it actually was. It's a popular restaurant, so if you go at a busy time, you might find yourself hunting for a table after ordering your food. For the food itself, we got the egg sandwich and the golden corn waffle. The waffle was good and was unique. The egg sandwich was good but didn't really distinguish itself from other egg sandwiches. So I was a little disappointed by it at its price point. My friend and I stopped by Sophia's a brunch counter last weekend for brunch and it was pretty good. To order here, you wait in a line outside which was pretty toasty in the sun but they also had an outdoor fan to help people cool off. We waited for about 45 minutes before actually ordering but they provide menus to look over before you get to the counter. I got the valley latte and subbed honey for vanilla and it was pretty good! I also got the breakfast sandwich and the bread is so fluffy and delicious (I bet the French toast is amazing) it's just so fluffy it kinda falls apart for the sandwhich functionality. I will be dreaming about this French toast for the rest of my life! Soo buttery and soft with a dulce de leche like center that paired perfectly with the bread. It tastes even better than it looks and it's beautiful so that says something. The rest of my food was fantastic too! My friend and I went the day after new year's, so that probably added to the crowd. We got there shortly after 9am and were lucky to find a parking spot at the next building over - we made sure there was no sign with parking restrictions. Thank goodness because I don't know how far away we'd have to park otherwise. There were large, glass doors that would normally separate the indoor and outdoor space. It was entirely open that day which made sense because the weather was perfect. I saw two fans on the "outdoor" seating area, which would be helpful during the summer. The line wasn't too long yet. We waited about 10 minutes to order at the counter. My friend wanted to order a latte, but their espresso machine was down at the time. Once you've ordered and paid, they give you a number. Lots of reviews mentioned the difficulty of finding a table. Fortunately, there were a few open tables and a few seats available at the long common table. We sat at a table with two chairs. There was a counter off to the side where you can grab a cup of water, utensils, napkins, and to-go boxes. Shortly after we got seated, they brought our cardamom bun (from Chaconne Patisserie) and decaf house roast coffee to our table. The rest of our order arrived about 5 minutes after that. The Egg Sandwich was so good. It came with choice of a side - we got waffle fries that were seasoned well. We really enjoyed the French Toast which was not the traditional kind. It was served as a big cube with a slice of butter on top. I was not expecting it to be stuffed too - I think that was the dulce de leche. Everything was delicious, and I really want to go back and try other menu items, like the Breakfast Burrito and Baked Eggs. They also have a few cocktail options - the PB Espresso Martini and Sophia's Matcha sound so good. Service was good - there were many servers constantly walking around and checking on tables. The only thing that was a little annoying was three different servers came by our table to ask if they could clear any dishes within a couple minutes of each other. I thought this place was, darling! Different from anything we have in Phoenix currently! Such a cute and creative, architectural and design concept!! I had been wanting to try this place since it opened and tried to go in December, but it was only their soft opening, but one of their sweet staff members met me at the door with a menu and gave me two gift cards and asked me to come back in January once they opened so obviously I had to! When I went back, I just wanted to light breakfast by myself so I got the ham and cheese croissant and a latte. The ham and cheese croissant was phenomenal. I do consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur and this was definitely in my top three! The pastry bread was like herb, and it was absolutely delicious. Interesting experience this morning, ordered the French toast and egg sandwich which were both good. The tater tots were a bit too salty. As we were finishing we saw a family looking for a table so we offered ours since since we were finishing up. We were abruptly interrupted by an employee that said "woah, woah, woah, how many people are you planning on seating here" (it was a table that fit 4-5) I looked at her and tried to explain we were leaving and that family that already ordered was looking for a table. We went straight from the airport to Sophia's - pretty hungry fam. There was quite a long line from the counter to almost the street but the line was moving so I thought. The issue is there is only one cashier causing such a huge bottleneck. We waited for almost an hour before we got to order our food. The food was just average although I do like the French toast but not for an hour wait. Fried rice was hearty meal but I didn't love kimchi taste (which I usually enjoy). We were also seated for 4 in a very tiny table by what looked like the owner or the manager instead of letting choose our own table where we feel comfortable. I thought that was so odd. We waited about 40 minutes outside which I didn't mind but with these higher temperatures approaching I am not sure whether that is a good idea. There is no umbrella but they let you get water while you wait.
