My husband and I are avid flavored latte lovers, and wherever we travel, we make it our personal mission to hunt down the absolute best lattes in the area. Now that we live here, we dedicate one day a week to exploring a brand-new local coffee shop. We've been living in Arizona for 7 years now, and after visiting The Coffee Builders in Phoenix this week, my only question is: Where has this place been all our lives?! This incredible hidden gem is tucked away in the Warehouse District and is a bit out of sight--you'd likely never just stumble across it unless you were explicitly looking for it. But the moment you walk through the doors, you are transported. The architectural design is completely unexpected, modern, and striking--especially the gorgeous, geometric upside-down wooden pyramids stretching across the ceiling. It creates an upscale, unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else. Now for the main event: the drinks and food. I ordered the Orange Blossom Latte and my husband ordered The Slopes. Both drinks were absolutely outstanding. They were rich, velvety, thick, and incredibly creamy with deep, distinct flavor profiles. Best of all, they weren't overly sugary--which is huge for us since we typically prefer our coffee at half-sweetness. To pair with our drinks, we tried the Blueberry Bourbon Maple Pastry. It was phenomenal: flaky on the outside, light and pillowy-creamy on the inside, beautifully balanced, and generously loaded with fresh blueberries. Boss took me for a belated birthday lunch. She's been here before and really enjoys it, and I can see why. The interior itself is very nicely decorated - comfortable and welcoming. Despite the small size, there is plenty of seating. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and service was excellent. Order at the counter and then they bring it to your table. Part of the menu changes based on the theme. Looks like we were there for the America 250 theme. I had the Dark Chocolate Chai (iced) which was delicious! Boss went with one of the state themed drinks. I think it was South Carolina. She loved it too. We shared the sandwiches - the Fire Roasted Chicken Salad, which is what the boss orders all the time apparently; and the Prime, Pimento and Blue Panini whichay be my favorite. I just love beef and blue cheese! The chicken was very good too, and there were several things on the menu that I'd love to try. This is a great little spot and I can see why she stops in regularly. Cute and cozy spot. I ordered an iced birthday cake latte along with the avocado toast and added a hard boiled egg on top. While the latte wasn't as sweet as I typically like them, I enjoyed it and it even came with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. This coffee shop looks like something you would see in a design builder studio. The inside looks designer, sophisticated, 80's wood inspired. Not one detail was overlooked, even the bar stools are purposefully chosen. Either the owner hired a designer, is married to one or they are in the developer business/community. In my travels throughout the world I have never seen this attention to detail for a 1000sq ft (at most) coffee shop. That being said the coffee is top notch. I was on the go and wish I had more time to soak up the synergy created in this space. I noticed Lots of business type patrons, not too many causal dressed clients. Proximity to downtown Phoenix, could be the cause. I will come back to try more of the star wars inspired drinks and from what I saw the food looks spectacular. My first time trying Coffee Builders since I happened to be in the area, and funnily enough... I don't even drink coffee! I was hoping they'd have some good tea options too, and they absolutely do. I ordered the iced peach black tea, and it was incredibly refreshing with a really nice peach flavor that wasn't overly sweet. The cashier was also super helpful in walking me through the menu and helping me decide what to order, which made for a great first impression. For breakfast, I got the avocado cream. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the chive cream was an absolute standout, it was so flavorful and ended up being the perfect dip for bites of the avocado toast. My only complaint is that it was pretty cumbersome to eat as served. I basically had to deconstruct the whole thing to enjoy it, so I think a different presentation would make the dish even better. The atmosphere was another highlight. It felt much more like a cocktail lounge than your typical coffee shop, which made it a really enjoyable place to sit and relax. You gotta love this place. The coffee builders location is very unassuming at first glance. You might drive by it and miss it because it looks like a closed garage in an abandoned parking lot. When you walk in you might mistake it for a nightclub--It's just that spectacular. The menu is varied and extensive for an establishment that is only open from 6 to 2 PM. They have a very respectable list of hot and cold sandwiches that one might choose for lunch and an extensive coffee list with very interesting combinations of coffee. But perhaps the thing I was most impressed with was the deviled eggs to go. Deviled eggs with caviar, deviled eggs with bacon, or just plain deviled eggs served in a cute little container on top of micro greens. I was in heaven. The other wonderful thing about this cute little place is the way they decorated the bathroom. I've never seen a design like that. It was exquisite and for those moderately temperatures Phoenix evenings they even have an outside patio area for one to sit and enjoy their cup of coffee. The staff was gracious, kind, and welcoming. This is probably one of my favorite coffee shops in Phoenix. The inside of the shop is contemporary but has a speakeasy type of feel. They also have an outdoor patio. The coffee cup-shaped bike racks instantly caught my eye, especially as someone who bikes around downtown, and the parking lot features an incredible oversized art piece that looks like a futuristic space sled being pulled by two yellow rockets. Before you even walk in, the place already feels imaginative and special. Inside, the experience only gets better. Much of the interior and the spacious covered patio, with its many tables, were crafted by the owner, and it shows. From the ordering experience to the cozy, organic atmosphere, everything feels thoughtful and top-notch. The warm wood tones, intricate ceiling details, and inviting communal feel make it the kind of place that naturally encourages conversation. We ended up chatting with several other guests, along with a number of staff members, all of whom were genuinely welcoming and happy to share stories about the space, its history, the owner, and the neighborhood. The current rotating theme was Star Trek, which somehow even included Yoda-shaped deviled eggs -- quirky, memorable, and very much in the spirit of the place. We tried the lavash, pastries, a cappuccino, and a latte, and both the presentation and taste were excellent. This morning I had the pleasure of starting my Monday with a vanilla bourbon latte from Coffee Builders, and it was such a fun surprise. Pulling into the parking lot, I'll admit I was a little skeptical with the piles of wood from the neighboring lumber business, but the second you walk inside, it feels like stepping into a cozy speakeasy. Low lighting, velvet chairs, and such a charming atmosphere:) The only thing that didn't quite match the moody vibe, in the best way, was Tina, my barista. She was so friendly and energetic, and encouraged me to switch it up from my usual vanilla latte. I'm glad I listened! The drink was delicious, but the presentation really stole the show. First off, the space is amazing! Its upscale cocktail lounge meets coffee bar: blue leather banquettes, velour chairs, rich wood paneling and accent lights. I felt like I should be drinking a martini, not a cortado. The food, on the hand, is meh. The Yoda-themed deviled eggs were cute, but they are in the bottom half of deviled eggs I've eaten (and I'm a huge fan). Putting microgreens on a ham and cheese panini doesn't make it taste better, nor does putting a flower on top of a cortado or putting so-so orange juice in a nice glass. Service was great. The greeting was above and beyond. The staff was incredibly friendly and made it feel like they already knew you, and they were clearly hustling. My husband ordered while we grabbed a seat outside. After noticing two tables who ordered after us get their food first, he went up to check on his waffle. The gentleman immediately came out, asked what we ordered, and rushed back to make it. He explained they were training and had missed the order, and said it would be comped. That said, our bill was still $27, which didn't quite add up for a latte and a $6 donut stack. Aside from that hiccup, the food and latte was okay. The donuts and waffles use the same batter and have a very similar texture, so I'd recommend ordering different items for more variety. Our kids did love the experience of making them though, which was a highlight. The outdoor patio was really nice and relaxing, kind of a hidden gem. We tried to come here once during their Star Wars theme but left when we learned there was an hour and a half wait to order. Not much of a line had formed yet and we were second in line to order. They had their Christmas/Harry Potter theme going which was super cool! The inside seating area is smaller but they also offer outdoor seating. I like that they have lots of food items to choose from and the drinks all sound great! I choose the Half Blood Chai drink, Avocado Dream toast and the Dumble Doughnut Stack. Everything was incredible!!! The doughnuts were thick and warm with multiple dipping sauces on the side. We came here because of their reviews on yelp and didn't disappoint. When we entered this beautiful low light comfy vibe, we were greeted by friendly staff. I reviewed the menu prior to have an idea of what I wanted to try and went with the abuelita coco which was lovely. While waiting for our drinks we noticed an ube drink on the menu and the staff was so sweet and offered to add the flavor to my husbands coffee. Abuelitas coco: 9/10 (the spice level was intense but worked) Late with ube flavor: 8/10 (my husband said he would prefer a stronger ube flavor) Blueberry danish: 8/10 loved that it was not sweet and light and airy. Some themes include Lego, Harry Potter, & Star Wars to name a few. On their everyday menu, you will find a very unique drink selection. My go to is the Fire & Ice Kentucky. This bourbon based coffee has such a smooth, Smokey and robust flavor that is topped with white oak wood then torched to perfection giving it that smooth and Smokey flavor. Another favorite is the Abuelita Coco coffee. This Mexican spiced chocolate and white chocolate duo will have you coming back for more. You truly cant go wrong with any drink you get here. Everything is beautifully plated and even the food is delicious! We love the dark, gloomy and moody ambiance of the inside. The seating even gives it that bit of an upscale touch feeling like you're at a "candlelight dinner". Service is always excellent everytime we have gone. Met up with a friend here on May 4th. I got the dark side drink (I think that's what it's called lol- dark cacao, strawberry, and black pepper). It was so good! I make a lot of coffee at home but I usually shy away from chocolate. The black pepper and strawberry intrigued me so I got it and was not disappointed! I discovered Coffee Builders on May the 4th. It is a big celebration day for Star Wars fans and Coffee Builders put together a themed menu for their customers.
