Drinks: milk was foam incorrectly. No micro foam and hot steam milk. Espresso is of average quality, they try to make up for it with fun syrups. This was my first time visiting The Coffee Builders, and I'm so glad I stopped by and checked them out. I enjoyed a yummy honey lavender latte and a loaded avocado toast. Service means so much to me, especially in the morning. Met up with a friend here on May 4th. I got the dark side drink (I think that's what it's called lol- dark cacao, strawberry, and black pepper). It was so good! I make a lot of coffee at home but I usually shy away from chocolate. The black pepper and strawberry intrigued me so I got it and was not disappointed! The coffee cup-shaped bike racks instantly caught my eye, especially as someone who bikes around downtown, and the parking lot features an incredible oversized art piece that looks like a futuristic space sled being pulled by two yellow rockets. Before you even walk in, the place already feels imaginative and special. Inside, the experience only gets better. Much of the interior and the spacious covered patio, with its many tables, were crafted by the owner, and it shows. From the ordering experience to the cozy, organic atmosphere, everything feels thoughtful and top-notch. The warm wood tones, intricate ceiling details, and inviting communal feel make it the kind of place that naturally encourages conversation. We ended up chatting with several other guests, along with a number of staff members, all of whom were genuinely welcoming and happy to share stories about the space, its history, the owner, and the neighborhood. The current rotating theme was Star Trek, which somehow even included Yoda-shaped deviled eggs -- quirky, memorable, and very much in the spirit of the place. We tried the lavash, pastries, a cappuccino, and a latte, and both the presentation and taste were excellent. This morning I had the pleasure of starting my Monday with a vanilla bourbon latte from Coffee Builders, and it was such a fun surprise. Pulling into the parking lot, I'll admit I was a little skeptical with the piles of wood from the neighboring lumber business, but the second you walk inside, it feels like stepping into a cozy speakeasy. Low lighting, velvet chairs, and such a charming atmosphere:) The only thing that didn't quite match the moody vibe, in the best way, was Tina, my barista. She was so friendly and energetic, and encouraged me to switch it up from my usual vanilla latte. I'm glad I listened! The drink was delicious, but the presentation really stole the show. The little flower on top was such a sweet touch. It wasn't overly sugary, definitely more of a true coffee drink with just the right hint of sweetness, which I loved. First off, the space is amazing! Its upscale cocktail lounge meets coffee bar: blue leather banquettes, velour chairs, rich wood paneling and accent lights. I felt like I should be drinking a martini, not a cortado. The food, on the hand, is meh. The Yoda-themed deviled eggs were cute, but they are in the bottom half of deviled eggs I've eaten (and I'm a huge fan). Putting microgreens on a ham and cheese panini doesn't make it taste better, nor does putting a flower on top of a cortado or putting so-so orange juice in a nice glass. Service was great. The greeting was above and beyond. The staff was incredibly friendly and made it feel like they already knew you, and they were clearly hustling. My husband ordered while we grabbed a seat outside. After noticing two tables who ordered after us get their food first, he went up to check on his waffle. The gentleman immediately came out, asked what we ordered, and rushed back to make it. He explained they were training and had missed the order, and said it would be comped. That said, our bill was still $27, which didn't quite add up for a latte and a $6 donut stack. Aside from that hiccup, the food and latte was okay. The donuts and waffles use the same batter and have a very similar texture, so I'd recommend ordering different items for more variety. Our kids did love the experience of making them though, which was a highlight. The outdoor patio was really nice and relaxing, kind of a hidden gem. The owner and his team designed all the woodwork in this place to create a uniquely crafted ambiance. The employees are uniquely sweet and efficient, very devoid of pretension you often run into at coffee shops. Haven took great care of me at the register. We tried to come here once during their Star Wars theme but left when we learned there was an hour and a half wait to order. It was the middle of the day on a Saturday though, which I guess is a busy time... This time my friends and I decided to show up right at open and it was the perfect time. Not much of a line had formed yet and we were second in line to order. They had their Christmas/Harry Potter theme going which was super cool! The inside seating area is smaller but they also offer outdoor seating. I like that they have lots of food items to choose from and the drinks all sound great! I choose the Half Blood Chai drink, Avocado Dream toast and the Dumble Doughnut Stack. Everything was incredible!!! The doughnuts were thick and warm with multiple dipping sauces on the side. The toast was flavorful and filling too. My friend ordered the carnitas bowl and they did not skimp on the meat! Everyone working was super friendly too. We came here because of their reviews on yelp and didn't disappoint. When we entered this beautiful low light comfy vibe, we were greeted by friendly staff. I reviewed the menu prior to have an idea of what I wanted to try and went with the abuelita coco which was lovely. While waiting for our drinks we noticed an ube drink on the menu and the staff was so sweet and offered to add the flavor to my husbands coffee. Abuelitas coco: 9/10 (the spice level was intense but worked) Late with ube flavor: 8/10 (my husband said he would prefer a stronger ube flavor) Blueberry danish: 8/10 loved that it was not sweet and light and airy. We found our favorite coffee shop! Thanks, Yelp, for another awesome Elite Week event at "Coffee Builders." It's in a 1960s building with cool art outside and a super cozy, study-like vibe inside. They also have unique food, like Smørrebrød, which are Danish open-faced sandwiches. Everyone was so friendly! Our barista, Pepper, was really nice and patient while we checked out their amazing coffee choices. My wife loves coffee, so she got a "Chocolate Pistachio Latte," and I picked something from their Galactic menu, the "Krayt Dragonfruit." It had muddled dragonfruit, lemonade, peach, anise rose tea, and bee pollen. So good, and both drinks looked incredible! We also tried the prime rib sliders; the meat was tender and juicy and totally hit the spot. Shanda loved it, so we'll definitely be back. Some themes include Lego, Harry Potter, & Star Wars to name a few. On their everyday menu, you will find a very unique drink selection. My go to is the Fire & Ice Kentucky. This bourbon based coffee has such a smooth, Smokey and robust flavor that is topped with white oak wood then torched to perfection giving it that smooth and Smokey flavor. Another favorite is the Abuelita Coco coffee. This Mexican spiced chocolate and white chocolate duo will have you coming back for more. You truly cant go wrong with any drink you get here. Everything is beautifully plated and even the food is delicious! We love the dark, gloomy and moody ambiance of the inside. The seating even gives it that bit of an upscale touch feeling like you're at a "candlelight dinner". Service is always excellent everytime we have gone. So I planned on going to a different coffee shop but they were closed on Mondays, then I came across The Coffee Builders. I have actually seen them before on Instagram for their Star Wars themed pop up. Luckily they had another themed pop up while we visited, Harry Potter. I know nothing about Harry Potter but my hubby was very happy with all the details and I always love a good pop up! There were so many interesting drinks on the menu but we went with the half blooded chai and the blueberry rose matcha. I will honestly be craving the half blooded chai for awhile! They nerded the place out on May of 4th with fun Star Wars decorations. This is a coffee shop that I could hang out and chill for most of the day. The staff is helpful in describing their drinks. Finally got to take him this weekend and it was just as good as I remembered. Interior is both casual and impressive. Staff seems really into being there, so rare to see anymore. Drinks: I did an iced pistachio latte (mocha on menu, I removed the mocha because this was my 2nd drink of the morning ) Husband had an iced orange mocha. Both were absolutely fantastic and so cute. This isn't just coffee, these are truly crafted drinks. Food was pretty good. I realized they rotate menu items and ingredients. Which totally makes sense. My avocado toast was great, but different than my first visit. Lavash bbq flatbread. Yummy. Came out so hot. I am in love with this concept coffee shop. Every month or two, they change out the theme of their coffee shop and they really commit. The month before I visited was Star Wars themed, but I made sure to not miss it when they announced the Lego themed coffee shop. They thought of everything. The Menu was build as if Lego came in and designed it themselves. Different color bricks to choose from, fun Lego themed craft coffees, legos on the tables for people to build with; I was in heaven. Beyond this specific build, the ambiance of the shop is immaculate. They had Avatar The Last Airbender playing on the TVs in the vibey interior, and an outdoor seating garden that makes you feel like you're anywhere but downtown Phoenix. Also worth mentioning that the staff brought the drinks and food to our table, and we hardly had to wait even 5 minutes for both dispute them being insanely busy. I asked the barista what drinks he likes the best, he recommended The Slopes and Forest Moon. Great choices! I loved my beverage, with the umami flavors and hint of sweetness. Such a creamy drink! My fellow yelp buddy Travis did try The Slopes as he's a big fan of blueberry. He said it was great. Very beautiful presentation for his latte. I asked the barista for the morning glory "ikea thing" lol, not knowing how to say that Swedish looking word "smørrebrød". It's essentially an open faced breakfast sandwich on top of a thick piece of rye-type bread. Some constructive feedback- The Ube waffles tasted good but it didn't read "Ube" to me. Just seemed like regular waffle taste. The staff working this morning were super friendly and really helpful with recommendations from the menu. Next time I'm nearby, I'll stop by, but before 2pm-- this cafe closes early. And fully closed on Sundays. For transparency I was a plus one guest of my fellow Yelp Elite friend, so my drink was comped. I purchased my food item and tipped.
