I met up with one of my former student leaders today to catch up, and she recommended that we meet at the Original Lola Coffee Location in Phoenix, which was a walk away from my office. The ambiance, drinks, and service were all great! There is an entrance to Lola Coffee from Roosevelt and another from the back near parking spaces. There is a restroom near the back entrance, and the start to the line to place an order is right near the front entrance. I saw in one of the comfy chairs while I waited for my former student to arrive. At that point, we moved to a regular table and then went and ordered drinks. She ordered a coffee, and I ordered a lemonade. We both enjoyed our drinks which were ready very quickly. There were smaller and larger tables, and there were also countertops along with business cards and marketing items at the back of the room on a thin table. Lola Coffee began with humble beginnings going back to 1992 with a cart, then Lux Coffee, and eventually Lola Coffee downtown. Now, there is even a second Lola Coffee location in Arcadia near 40th Street and Indian School. Today, they serve coffee, pastries, and breakfast. The Downtown Phoenix location hours are weekdays from 6:30 AM to 7 PM and weekends from 7 AM to 7 PM. We needed an afternoon pick-me-up after a full morning of errands, so we stopped by Lola Coffee--a local favorite--and it did not disappoint. The coffee was incredibly fresh, with beans that were clearly just ground, and you can taste the quality in every sip. Came in today right before my nail app across the street to grab some coffee and a little snack and I am so pleasantly surprised! The coffee is great, the espresso quality is smooth and even with an extra shot, the flavors in my vanilla oat latte really balance out well! The staff are all so sweet and the coffee comes out QUICK-- like surprisingly quick! I barely finished paying and my drink was done! The chocolate babke knot I got to go was also sooooo yummy! They warmed it up for me and it was so melty, soft, warm and delish. Love the location of this spot too, on Roosevelt but in the suburbs area which makes it feel cozier than the inner city cafes. Needed a pick me up on a gloomy Sunday afternoon. Somehow, I easily found curbside parking nearby, right in front of Sosoba less than 150 ft away. I'm a sweet tooth and opted for the medium pecan pie latte, one of the fall menu drink specials, for $6. I didn't love the aftertaste of the drink that likely came from the pecan syrup. The interior was peaceful, especially with the ample natural sunlight and view of the cars passing by on Roosevelt. I stayed for a few hours, savoring my drink and staying hydrated with their self-service water station, doing work on my laptop taking advantage of their 4 outlets against the main wall. The restroom requires a key, found hanging by the entrance to the kitchen, attached to a ladel (it's hard to miss lol). I loved the sense of serenity here. The music wasn't playing too loud, and those that gathered came to socialize, read, and do work. It felt like a perfect community space. Didn't love my particular drink but am down to try other options, incuding their cafe latte likely with a different syrup next time. read more

The coffee here is so delicious. They do this espresso whipped cream that they put on top of your coffee and it's delicious and delectable!! I had their version of a white chocolate mocha, made with oat milk. I came here twice on my trip in town to visit my daughter. all of the workers are so nice and so helpful, it's a cute little vibe inside perfect spot with couches and cute little tables and chairs. Lola Coffee is a great place to quickly stop in for a coffee on your walk or stop and stay a while. I had an iced coffee that was one of the best I've had in a long time. It leaned on the stronger side so if that's not your thing I wouldn't get it black. I added some cream for the drink to still have those strong notes and just a touch of sweetness. The coffee was fairly priced for a small at around $4. The location is great right on Roosevelt! The coffee shop has a few tables on the curbside and a slightly small seating area inside. I appreciated that Lola Coffee has a water cooler inside easily accessible for anyone sitting outside or just coming in from their walk. There is more seating around back in the shade. This spot is great as it's quieter than the curbside right on busy Roosevelt. There is also a small parking lot with a handful of spots behind but it appears that it is used by multiple businesses. Parking may be a challenge here. read more

Cute little coffee shop tucked away in a small plaza off of 3rd Ave. Stumbled upon it after finishing a yoga class in the same plaza and entered through the back entrance. Friendly barista and chill, ambiance with several people working quietly. Ordered a latte which was pretty standard and a chocolate croissant which she warmed up in the microwave. Went on Saturday and didn't have a great experience. Service was rushed, we were skipped over by a barista who prioritized a woman in line behind us. Iced coffee was very acidic and not great, paid an up charge of $1 or 1.50 for oat milk on to have barely a splash put in. My friend's almond croissant was dense. Phoenix, Az. Pretty simple actually, walked right in and ordered our drinks. Our lattes were exceptional, served hot, rich flavored medium roast, good size., and in a ceramic cup. I had a quiche that looked too thick and too much like scrambled eggs but it turned out to be deliciously cheesy with a delicate spicing. Be careful if you have allergies when eating here. They don't label their products as to whether they have allergens in them or not. As someone who has severe nut allergies, I thought I was safe with a cranberry orange muffin, but there were pecans. When I started to have a reaction I told the barista and her response was, "well, it was next to pastries with nuts." After I told her and the other girls that it doesn't matter and if nuts can't been see in a product they should be labeled, the barista exclaimed in a condescending tone, "sorry, have a nice day!" Dear manager, owner etc... consider that this is a liability. I had to ask fellow patrons for Benadryl and thankfully, they came through. Had that not had happened, I could be in the ER. This is complete negligence and you could 100% be sued for this. Please take this as a warning because it may not go so well next time. Also, you should probably educate your employees (especially the brunette barista working 2/7/25 @ 8:30 am) on the severity of allergies and maybe give them a lesson on customer service and empathy. read more

This is a cute coffee shop along Roosevelt St! Parking is available in a nearby parking garage and along the street. There's a nice, large patio to sit outside if you don't want to sit inside the shop! The baristas are all very nice as well. I got the latte with oat milk and honey as well as the chocolate chip cookie. I loved my drink, as it wasn't very sweet and still had a strong espresso flavor (that being said, if you like drinks more on the sweet side, you should probably ask the barista to make it more sweet!). The chocolate chip cookie had a nice amount of chocolate and was nice and chewy! The only critique I have is that the chocolate in my cookie tasted a bit stale, but otherwise I enjoyed the things I got. I'd definitely come back to try out more of their drinks! Typically I enjoy my visits to Lola's and have become a more frequent visitor of late. One of the main draws for me being the delicious pastries. I first visited back in 2016, and I have to note, the quality of the butter croissants has dipped drastically. Some days they are over cooked and almost burnt black on the outside, which utterly destroys them. Other days they are smaller flattened affairs that taste of nothing. Perhaps Lola's is experimenting with suppliers, or has a new baker? But the quality of the product is no longer consistent, and definitely not worth the price. Secondly, the gentlemen working the register on Monday morning (03/25) needs a reminder that businesses only work when customers come in and buy stuff. My advice is to not scoff and scowl and appear impatient when folks are placing their orders. We can see you're annoyed - which is confusing when the place only has a couple of guests in it. Came on a Sunday to catch up with a friend around 2pm. It wasn't super busy. There is a parking garage right behind the building. They close at 7pm on the weekend which is nice. There were a lot of people working on their laptops. The location isn't super big but I loved the vibe, bright light coming in, and the beautiful mural in the wall. I got an iced matcha with honey, clutch! I would definitely come back because they had full pastries and I really wanted to try the red velvet cake. read more
