First time at Sophia's, and I'm so happy there's a spot within walking distance! We arrived around noon and waited about an hour to order and get our food. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the breakfast burrito and French toast. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, fingerling potatoes, schnitzel, and matcha with cold foam. The breakfast sandwich was great- the bread was amazing, and the spicy mayo really stood out. The fingerling potatoes were perfectly crispy. The schnitzel came topped with a really refreshing salad similar to a Caesar; while the chicken itself was a bit dry, it worked well when paired with the salad in each bite. The matchas were okay. The cold foam was an extra dollar, making each drink $9. As a matcha snob, I personally don't think it's worth the price, especially given the small amount of cold foam on top. That said, the ambience was amazing. I loved the aesthetic, and the indoor-outdoor concept is especially nice to have in Phoenix. I'd definitely come back to try the items we missed this time!! read more

It was nice to have someone looking for a table for you and not being too worried about finding a table. The food was good. If you can't handle too much sugar like us, I'd recommend asking to have the syrup for the French toast on the side. Since the French toast was sweet the pool of syrup under it was too much for us. The breakfast burrito was actually good, wish it was a little less salty but I think it was just bad luck that day with my meal. read more

Not sure this place knows what it wants to be. Has counter service and pastries like a cafe, but it's not a cafe - I'd be out of place doing work here. The girl at the cashier was uninviting and had the personality of a rock. Made me reconsider eating here before I paid. Food was a disappointment. Egg sandwich lacked flavor and came with cold cheese, cold eggs and avocado was placed on top and not in the sandwich. The French Toast was equally disappointing. Presented well but was dry and hard to eat. Best item we had was the chocolate smoothie. A nice atmosphere and smoothie wasn't worth the $50. read more

Good, but not great. This is a place to go and take pictures or be seen more than anything. They precook the eggs in giant batches (open kitchen) which I understand due to the long wait times but when you wait an hour in line and for the food, your expectations naturally go up. I do have to say I really enjoyed the French toast though. The burrito was beyond forgettable unfortunately with a really sus quality tortilla you expect to find far far away from the border. The cold brew coffee was basically water. Overall, I'd maybe come back when or if the hype ever dies down. The food is not worth the wait. They should probably figure out a better system for ordering to keep the lines down as well. read more

I had an uncomfortable experience here due to how a legitimate food safety concern was handled. While placing my order, I noticed a bee flying around inside the pastry display case. I calmly mentioned it to one employee, who acknowledged it but did not take action. When nothing changed, I mentioned it to another employee, who appeared to brush it off. Both employees then stepped away briefly and laughed about the situation within my view, which felt dismissive. When I reiterated that a bee inside an open pastry case is unsanitary, the response was defensive and dismissive. The employee said "fine" with an attitude and walked away to address it, all while being in the middle of my transaction. At that point, my order had been taken but payment had not yet been processed. Given the lack of professionalism and how the concern was handled, I chose to leave rather than complete the purchase. Addressing sanitation issues promptly and respectfully should not feel like an inconvenience to staff, and customers should not be mocked or spoken down to for raising reasonable concerns. Unfortunately, this experience made it clear this was not a place I felt comfortable giving my business. read more

We were on vacation and this place was recommended to us. The line was out the door and we hesitated on staying. Glad we did, though we were ordered and sat with in an hour. The food came out quickly, great ambience, very hip and the food was delicious. We got the chicken sandwich and waffle fries, and the breakfast sandwich with tots. Cute vibe and friendly serving staff. Food looks better than it tastes ("Baked eggs" is actually a bland frittata rather than actual baked eggs, breakfast sandwich falls apart in your hands and is a knife/fork situation). I figure they're new and hopefully get it dialed in. My only real complaint is that the influencer set got really obnoxious with how much space they took up in a very small seating area. (Plus it's really awkward trying to have a casual breakfast with a friend while people in full stage makeup are treating the place like a catalog shoot.) It's got a great location for me and they're clearly getting a buzz which is great for the neighborhood, so we'll keep be patrons and look forward to when everything settles in. read more

I've been waiting for this beautiful reclaimed building to open for months an be months. Inside is decorated very simply. Lay out is weird, small movable tables. Doesn't seem like it would be good for large groups, as it would be difficult to fit more than two entree plates per table. Music was way too loud to carry on a conversation and it was absolutely freezing. So cold inside that I was shaking while holding my latte. Counter service lends to a cheapening of the look of the place. I ordered the b breakfast burrito at the recommendation of the "host". Not sure why there was a host, since they don't seat you. I wish I could say it was good. I wish I could say it was bad. It was neither, just unmemorable. The salsa picante was so hot, it blew out my palate, which is why I may or may not have enjoyed the burrito. Portion of tots are freaking huge. Way too much (I know, complaining about too much is stupid) but it was. The vanilla latte with almond milk may be the very best latte I've ever had. I don't know what they did different compared to other coffee houses, but keep it up. Not sure if this one deserves a second chance. Overall, disappointing. read more

This place is so pretty and the architecture is amazing! We came today thinking it's a Tuesday it won't be super packed and we were wrong it was still pretty packed but we still snagged a cozy table in the corner for two. The sun was shining on a breezy cool morning so it was perfect. The pistachio latte was pretty good. It was so good I got another one to go when we left for our drive back home to Gilbert. My daughter got the fresh squeezed orange juice and that was also delicious. The food was really good it was simple but delicious. The chorizo was one of the best I've had a restaurant. It tasted maybe locally sourced or homemade. The French toast I thought was going to be very "eggy" but it was soooo good the dulce de leche, butter, syrup, and flaky salt all went so well together and it was cooked perfectly no egg taste. The only reason I knocked off a start was because the young lady who was taking our order was very rude. I asked to change my latte flavor at the last minute because I didn't know they had pistachio until I saw the syrup on the counter and she huffed and rolled her eyes. (Ok it's early and I get it this was an inconvenience to change the flavor of the latte that wasn't made yet) We were done eating and I wanted to free up a table for patrons who were waiting for a table. While we were waiting for our friend (she lives in the area and I invited her to come for a latte run) I decided to order my 2nd latte for the road and my fiends latte and I asked the manager/owner if there was someplace we could wait outside she pointed across the parking lot and suggested to wait in there since it is a nice open space. So my daughter and I grabbed the lattes and walked across the parking lot to wait for our friend . We were greeted by a nice younger gal at the desk asked if we needed anything we explained we were waiting for our friend and the manager suggested we could wait in here. No problem. That's when an older Hispanic lady walked up to us and said this is a place of business we couldn't wait in there I said the lady across the way said we could we aren't going to be long we are waiting or our friend. She continued to be extremely rude and with it being Lunar New Year, I was in no place to argue. So we walked away for sake of argument. Wow wow wow!! This place is stunning! You immediately feel the chic and welcoming ambiance as soon as you pull up. The restaurant is designed as a fast casual style. You order at the counter are given a number and then brought your items. My partner and I decided to share the breakfast burrito and the breakfast fried rice. The burrito was overflowing with perfect chorizo and perfectly wrapped in a tasty tortilla. It was served with a side of tator tots topped with a chipotleish style sauce. The breakfast fried rice was an explosion of flavor. Large chunks of bacon, crunchy veggies and flavor packed fried rice all topped with an over medium egg! We had a PB espresso martini and a glass of cava. Both fairly priced at ~$14 and $10. The food was about $36 for the two items. Flor, the owner, was a great help from the moment we stepped inside. She gave us recommendations and made sure our meals and cocktails were just to our liking-- which they were! It was a pleasure to meet her. This place is exactly what Phoenix needs. Had breakfast here this morning. I'm on the fence with Sophias's food choices. Bacon, chicken and salmon are the protein choices. In a sausage lady. Strike 1. The food was good, BUT I found myself up and down for salt, pepper, silverware, napkins, had to ask for butter for the toast. YES, I GET IT! It's counter service-maybe, that's not me but it seems to be for lots of folks, be informed. Service was good, I guess. The servers were delivering food, bumping into the patrons. Getting a table, FAST! The line was out the door, moves FAST. The ambiance is STELLAR! It is BRIGHT, OPEN AIR, BEAUTIFUL! The salt Shaker wasn't working and then am the salt poured out on my food. My potatoes were replaced, STAT! I received the wrong pastry but was made to feel like yes, that's what you ordered. Got it, leave it and go away. A pastry is a pastry, in not upset, but don't try to play me. My Matcha cold was tasty, NO BITTERNESS. We both had the American breakfast. The potatoes fried to the gods-PERFECT! My friend got tater tots, you can also substitute the waffle tots. I think it's the demeanor of the staff, an odd vibe; 'I want to serve you, but I don't,' I think it's what I felt. I can't call it. Parking has the potential to be a bear. I think the staff was overwhelmed because this place became popular, FAST. My experience left me with unfulfilled. Try it, it may be your spot. Kimchi fried rice was good also! Espresso martini first thing in the morning... perfect but the waffle was a little disappointing. It came out looking so good with the scoop of butter and gold flakes but It had a little weird aftertaste idk how to describe it. Was expecting a great experience after hearing so much about Sophia's however that was not the case. Upon entering there was a long line so I put my belongings on a table to get back to after my party and I ordered. However, a worker seated another party at that table and let them touch all over my water bottle and belongings that were placed on the table. After going to confront the situation, the worker notified me she would seat us after we ordered. I took my touched belongings and went to order. After ordering, that said worker disappeared and went to the party behind us instead to seat them. Left my party standing there waiting to get seated. After about 5 minutes of just standing there we seated ourselves instead. So, my water bottle and belongings were touched for no reason when I could've said that said table. Additionally, one our parties food was cold. Will not be returning. read more
