We ordered Taiyakis which are those delicious fish-shaped pastries, that they put a filling in and then fill with soft serve (called an Ah Boong). They also have the option to get soft serve in a cup, or in a cup with the Taiyaki turned upside down on top, but we prefer Ah Boong style! The soft serve is creamy, dreamy goodness and my favorite pairing is with a custard-filled Taiyaki. We didn't have to wait too long in line, nor did it take too long to get our desserts. After grabbing lunch and walking around the Spectrum I felt like a sweet treat. I've always wanted to try this place so I thought...what better time to check this place out. Unfortunately you cannot buy just one. It's two for $4.95 for just the taiyaki. You can also order it with soft serve. I ordered the custard and the red bean filled. There wasn't much custard in the custard filled one but the red bean had a decent amount and was nice and creamy. Note: if it is not eaten right away the waffle part gets very soft and flimsy as it doesn't keep its crispiness. Good thing it crisp right back up in the oven at 400° for 6-8 minutes. This is a decent SomiSomi to go to if you don't feel like going through the nightmare parking situation over in Diamond Jamboree Center location. Parking is still an inconvenience especially if you just wanted some soft serves and get going. Like it's fine if you were gonna go charge your car, get some errands done at Target, had other shops to browse, and decided to get some soft serve. Now the service itself has minimal wait and the quality is basically the same as you get from say out in Bella Terra or Garden Grove location. Not really anything extraordinary to write on my end, which is good, I guess. If you haven't been to SomiSomi before, I suggest the green tea soft serve and get some taiyaki SEPARATELY. The latter usually comes hot and fresh. Which is wonderful in itself. Just not on top of or to use it to hold the soft serve. Their taiyaki is always a win -- I love that you can mix and match fillings. I got Oreo, matcha, black sesame, and hotteok, and every single one was delicious. Stopped by Somisomi while I was at the Irvine Spectrum today. I have been to the Diamond Jamboree location a few times but not here. Taiyaki mochi waffles are very good but I don't really care for the filling. It's way too sweet. I also like the taro filling that I usually order from another place and they do not have it here. Service could have been better. The girl that made my taiyaki wasn't super pleasant. No smile, no thank you. Therefore, deduct one star. 4/5 read more

Personally, I like them when they're freshly made because they're super crispy on the outside and just a little soft on the inside. My friends actually prefer them a bit softer, but to each their own. The soft serve is still delicious, and I haven't had any issues with it so far. I also love how they rotate flavors. During this visit, they had caramel matcha and ube cream for the combos ...I can't remember the other flavor combo, but I'm sure it was good too. The peach is on the sweeter side, kind of like peach candy/syrup or a peach yakult drink ( less yogurty). Ube is mild but my preference as its more creamy and sweet. Matcha custard is light in flavor but a good classic filling. The taiyaki shell needed to be cooked a bit more as it was chewy. My first experience where we ordered on screens as well. There were 2 screens available and a short 5 minute line. It has been at least 6 months since I last visited any SomiSomi location. Good news is prices are still low and affordable. Quality is still solid as always. Portions are smaller. Smaller cup, less soft serve, less toppings, and no Strawberry or macaroon wS offered.
