I don't normally write reviews but I feel compelled to after the vast contrast in my experience and the others on Yelp. I. am. boggled. I was super excited to try this restaurant looking at the reviews but I am telling you, whatever chef is in charge has a very distorted palette. Every single dish and I mean EVERY DISH was sweet. The Parker Rolls were served with sickeningly sweet jam and no butter which was odd. The Tuna appetizer sat in a syrupy sweet sauce and lacked salt. The short rib had a sweet sauce. The burger and iceberg wedge were topped with an overly sweet jam. The whole food experience was just fail after fail. Other fails include the crab cakes which my friend picked at and said they were ok (for $50 no less!). Creamy Garlic dressing just tasted like lime? 2 stars for great service, but unless they hire a new head chef and stop with the 2014 culinary gimmicks I wouldn't return. read more

Look at all this amazing food! I caught up with some girlfriends for a belated birthday dinner and we went to this cute little gem hidden in a corporate plaza in Irvine, and it is just so aesthetic and warm. The servers were also so sweet in wishing happy birthday, and so attentive to us as well. We started with three French 75's (so tasty), and then tried a handful of their appetizers and entrees - a pumpkin taster (not sure what it is but it was tasty), mushroom bird's nest, pan-roasted salmon (cooked to pure perfection), roasted cauliflower, brussels and pears, and gnocchi and cheese. Everything was so delicious and yummy, and cooked to perfection. I love that they're also using seasonal ingredients as well, which means 1) their menus will be changing soon and 2) I have to come back to taste their new creations! read more

Came here for dinner for my Mom's 70th bday celebration. My brother has been here before and spoke highly of the place. It is tucked between a business building so you might pass by it and not notice. There's a parking structure that they validate. Super friendly people and very nice and spacious inside. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. They have space heater for the outdoor when it's cold. Now the good: I will admit I didn't care for their amuse bouche. For me it just tasted like butter with some pistachio on top. I was hoping that this wasn't a sample of what was to come. And it wasn't. We got the Parker House Roll and that was YUM YUM YUM 5/5 would recommend not skipping on this. The bread was super soft and went well with their house made apple butter. I also got their Mussels Rockefeller but has asked not to have the the lobster stock and they were able to accommodate which I am so glad. The soup was so delicious! 5/5 would recommend this. Who can resist pieces on bacon on a garlicky base with mussels!!? Yum!!! For my main entree I got the braised beef and boy- that was AMAZING 5/5. It was tender, huge cut, flavorful and overall a great choice. It was such a huge portion I had to have my husband finish half of it. Highly recommend this. My husband ordered the roasted half chicken and it may sound simple but he enjoyed it a lot. 5/5 would recommend. My brothers ordered the 32 oz tamahawk to share and they loved it 5/5!!!! Cute modern American with seasonal menu featuring an open kitchen. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Interior is very aesthetic and upscale with floor to ceiling glass windows. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, perfect to bring your furry friend! There is a parking lot with free validation for 5 hours (self park) or 2 hours (valet). We started with drinks - toasted sesame daiquiri (rum bases), tequila one, and French 75 (gin based). All great options! For dinner, we started with the Mussel Rockefeller appetizer with complimentary bread. The bacon lardon and lobster croutons added a nice texture to the creamy dish. For produce, we got the brussels&pears and fire roasted broccoli. Definitely would recommend the Brussels! Our main entrees were the 32oz porterhouse and mushroom risotto. The risotto was perfectly seasoned and sized enough to share. We ordered the porterhouse medium rare, but some parts of the steak was more in the rare side, regardless it was great topped with the green salsa. The location of Solstice was really odd, at first we couldn't determine where it was, and then saw 2 flaming heaters working out front, that's the only way we were able to find it. The interior is super cute! What I did enjoy: Service was attentive- maybe a bit too much. Our waitress was sweet but doing too much. Spent like 5 mins giving a run down of the menu, which some may enjoy but we didn't. Food- food was great! I thought everything was executed very well with the exception of the biscuits- they were nice and crunchy top but the inside was not flaky or fluffy. It was heavy and doughy, slightly undercooked on the inside. I preferred the butter to the apple cinnamon butter. My friend got the PBLT and she said the way they cut and served the meat on the sandwich didn't make sense, every bite she took it was falling apart and sliding all over. Flavor was great though. Steak and eggs was yummy!!! No complaints flavor wise, they did advertise mixed greens as the side but what was served to us was sautéed spinach? So that was strange. They were also super weird about a request to swap out fries as the side. I think in Orange County you have to be open to substituting food/modifications. Drinks- this time around we skipped cocktails due to some lifestyle alterations we are accommodating at the moment, and I would come back to try some of them, but what I HATED was the WARM CAN of Diet Coke for $5! Seriously? I get it if they're not a traditional brick and mortar that offered fountain sodas but charging $5 for a can of Diet Coke that isn't even cold is wild to me. read more

We had a very great time at Solstice. We went there for a birthday celebration and they really made it special for us. Sometimes its the smallest things that makes the biggest statement and Solstice had ALOT of small things that made our experience memorable. Overall great place. Food good and fresh. I do think the food quality isn't quite as good as when we went the first time. Crab cake was cold and small. Ribeye had a lot of extra fat and gristle, along with being very thin. **They have added a 3% "Technology fee" with real small print at bottom of the menu. Don't like restaurants when they add the "junk fees". For a 3% technology fee, their app should work. Couldn't get it to unlock the reward. Couldn't get it to use the birthday reward. Manager manually resolved everything...but if you are going to charge a 3% "technology fee", it should at least work. Unfortunately I'm taking the stance that I don't like restaurants that charge junk fees, so I won't be returning as long as they have that. read more

I have been here twice for lunch. The PBLT Sandwich was the best BLT style sandwich ever with the chili jam. I can't stop raving about Solstice. Everything about this restaurant is great! The ambiance of the restaurant is always so nice. No matter the day, it is lively, has a great atmosphere, and is pleasing to the eye as you scan the restaurant. There was certainly care and effort put into choosing all the pieces inside. Solstice has been great for date nights, after work dinners with coworkers, and catching up with friends. The service is always amazing. I have had the pleasure of being seated in Brian's section each time I have gone, and he has been amazing each and every time. I've taken a different person each time and he has been able to flex to each person's style. I really appreciate him going over the menu. Solstice is one of the rarities where I can really say each item on the menu is amazing. Food- Egg jar - appetizer- 2/5 -bland with too much pickle relish and crumbly texture that made a mess. Tuna tartare-appetizer -3/5 - sauce way too sugary but tuna part was tasty. Bowl of crinkle potato chips to eat with the tuna seemed like an afterthought. Needed some larger homemade wonton chips. Steak salad - 1/5 - just a wedge of romaine with a tiny bit of corn and pickled onions. Dressing was meh. For less than half the price -Chipotle does it better. My best friend took me here for my birthday and overall the place did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and funny, while the food was fantastic. We really went to town with the appetizers and main courses and I can totally understand why people rave about the place! The food was that good. The server knew we were celebrating but didn't offer us dessert. By no means am I saying I want a free dessert BUT I would love to see the menu. A super cute brunch spot in Irvine, solstice_oc has beautiful aesthetic vibe with beautiful decor with a lot of plants and wooden furnitures. Their tablewares are so cute with pink napkins and a touch of rosemary , which are similar with alfresco dinning style. They have both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The outdoor dining is great because the restaurant is located between some offices buildings with nice garden views. Therefore, they would be busy in weekdays and I recommend to reserve your table if you have plan to go in weekdays. About the food, I tried filet and fries which has great medium rare chopped steak and hand-cut fries . I like the steak texture and the bordelaise sauce . But I wish they can add more sauce for the dish. However, I come to checkout the place because of their butter cake . The cake is served by different ways based on seasonal. At the time I came, the butter cake was served with peach jam and vanilla ice cream . The flavors were incredible, with sweet and sour jam , buttery from butter cake and cold icing from the ice cream , those are real harmony of flavors. If you don't mind to have alcohol at lunchtime so recommend to try their cocktails #one with gin based top with cantaloupe ball and lime juice, that was so refreshing. Solstice is an interesting (in a good way) since it sits at the bizarre intersection of high-end restaurant and corporate plaza lunch spot. However, Solstice needs to simplify its dishes a bit and focus on flavors to really reach that next level. Solstice is located at the base of The Boardwalk corporate plaza in Irvine. It's interior is modern but inviting, with lights, wood, and mirrors throughout. My family booked Solstice to celebrate my wife's birthday, and we were seated promptly. We brought our own wine for a nominal corkage fee. Starting with service, we were thoroughly impressed throughout. The waitstaff were phenomenal--quick and kind, and often went above and beyond. For example, we did not have a resealable cork for our wine and our waitress grabbed one from the bar for us. Further, since the staff knew it was my wife's birthday they brought her a handwritten birthday card with signatures! Moving to food and drinks, the drink I had was fanciful and delightful. A bright drink punctuated with the cute design element of a paper airplane. The food, was equally well presented, but sometimes just missed the mark. We were presented with an amuse bouche--which are often good as palate cleansers or to set the food notes for the meal--this did neither. It was more or less a way to look fancy. My family ordered a variety of dishes, starting with Parker rolls and Brussels sprouts. The rolls were very fresh and tasty. The Brussels sprouts were softer and the toppings were at best unneeded and at worst confounding--it looked like a fruit salad on top. My entree was the wagyu pappardelle, which on paper should be delicious. However, again, while the presentation was great, it lacked any texture and the tastes were just a bit bland. On the flip side, my family generally liked their entrees and complimented the risotto especially. All in, Solstice is good. While to food lacks on some of the basics, there are some great dishes, the drinks are great, and the service is next level. Honestly, the dinner food was okay but I definitely wouldn't recommend the deviled eggs in a jar nor the bird nest mushroom soup. For the price to size ratio, I'd rather get another entree. The fudge was fudge and short rib was your regular tender marinated shiort rib, nothing special. Definitely recommend the apple butter cake and the pumpkin bread pudding for dessert. Recommendations: -The short rib is so good. No knife needed to cut this, the meat is so tender. -I'm not usually the person who orders chicken when we go out because I eat it so much at home, but their roasted chicken is great. Tons of flavor with a crispy skin. -Dessert - A must get is the brown butter fudge cake. OMG it's so good. Chocolate dreams! I've also tried the trout, crabcake, burger and corn gnocchi. Not terrible...just not my style. There's no atmosphere to speak of. There's a sterile corporate feel to the place. The food was pretty good but I don't have to do it again. The deviled egg dish was tasty, but I would have preferred soft baguettes. My girl friend and I went here for a catch up date and I was really pleased with my meal! She's been here before with her fiance and said they enjoyed it their first time so I'm glad she wanted to go again so I was able to try. They do have a rotating menu based on seasonal items so it may be hard to find things on yelp since the items can vary and can come out differently depending on when you go compared to when you're trying to reference a yelp photo that's already been posted. My friend said last time they had the same type of protein of entrees for the most part but it's the ingredients that are complimentary to the protein that was adjusted. I got the short rib, she got the trout, and we shared the watermelon salad. Short rib was so tender and the pureed potato was so creamy and buttery. I've been trying to watch my carb intake but I couldn't resist not eating all the potato.. definitely more than I would've normally wanted to consume but it was worth it. Service was great. We seemingly came before the dinner rush and we were the first guests to be seated outside in the patio but we were checked on very often and everyone was very friendly and attentive. Parking is in the structure right there and it's very close and easy to get to the restaurant, you can't miss it cause I think it's the only restaurant there even. They'll validate your parking for you as well. It's a super cute restaurant with lots of outdoor area to hang out before/after if you'd wanna stay back, which is what my girl friend and I did after our dinner and just sat on the open chairs outside. Excellent service. Very quiet and refined. Food not so good. This was our first time. A little hard to find...our siri map led us into a parking garage with no visibility..."you have arrived" but we walked a little further and found it. Very quiet at 5pm. We have two waiters and loved the great attention and service...after our food was delivered they got occupied at the bar and we couldn't get salt. We had a 8oz filet and a wedge salad. The filet was tasteless and the salad was split for us and most places would seize that as an opportunity to pile both our plates...but not here...chef was going to make sure we learned our lesson so he sent out two full-sized plates with tiny little salad portions..consider us corrected....which was OK because the salad was not even close to a classic wedge salad but rather it was syrupy and sweat tasting neither creamy, blue cheesy, and the few bits of bacon were hard as rocks. And to make it worse, the lettuce (a wedge is always iceberg) was wilted and clearly too old to make a salad. After two strikes you're out we asked for the check, skipped dessert, and thanked our very nice team of servers and left not to return. We've recently dined at Ruth Chris, Eddie V, Starfish, South at Nick's, Antonello, and Fleming's. I would say any of these are more impressive than Solstice. We also believe that places that take themselves seriously and Solstice clearly does, should hold themselves up to higher expectations and increasing standards of excellence. A shout out to my dear Yelp friend, Dee A. for the suggestion on this brunch spot. I made reservations for Sunday brunch but when we arrived today it wasn't really necessary. It must be a holiday weekend so there were no crowds. Solstice Seasonal Kitchen & Bar is located at The Boardwalk in Irvine. Parking is available in the covered structure for a fee but the restaurant does provide validation for up to 5 hours during brunch and dinner. You may also choose valet parking for convenience. Upon entering, we were greeted by the somewhat friendly host and seated right away. The interior is bright and airy. The outside patio seating is nice as you get to enjoy the sunshine and park like view. I always like the open kitchen concept as you can see all the action as they prepare your meal. Our server was nice but a little clumsy at times. We just bypassed the appetizers and cocktails and went straight to ordering from the "brunchy entrees". I ordered the Jumpo Lump Crab Cake Benedict which was delicious. Their version is made with buttermilk biscuits, sautéed spinach, poached eggs and the absent sliced tomatoes. The Hollandaise sauce was creamy and savory goodness. I love crab cakes so this was an excellent choice. My husband is not big on brunch so he usually orders the basic entrees which includes eggs and bacon. He opted for the Solstice Breakfast - scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, biscuit and truffle home fries. The truffle home fries were so good. Even went above and beyond to make my husband feel special for his bday dinner by serving some complimentary champagne and a staff signed thank you card. Felt a tad warm inside the other night but they may have been trying to conserve energy (since we are in the midst of an energy crisis), however, it was still manageable. Went here for my wife's birthday. The setting is quite nice. A bit noisy for me but not intolerable. Food: nice variety on the menu, but I had eaten shortly before this meal. So I just went the iceberg wedge which of the best iceberg wedges I've ever had. I sampled a bite of a dessert which was superb. The staff web out of their way to wish my wife a happy birthday with. First time here. Beautiful restaurant, food was great but service was so so. Dylan the bartender served us. He didn't tell us his name until we mentioned a friend of ours named Dylan. When he asked us if we wanted sparking or still, I said "regular water is fine." And he said "they're both free just so you know." Weird intro to our lunch... The manager was nice, she stopped by to greet us. We saw two people at the host stand, we said goodbye and they did not acknowledge us. Now I know why they're not a busy restaurant. Beautiful restaurant with indoor/patio seating featuring handcrafted cocktails and seasonal ingredients. Came here for social hour/happy hour and ended up staying for dinner as well. For happy hour, they had 2 cocktail options and both were delicious (one is whiskey/orange based, the other one wine/hibiscus based). For food, we were feeling something summery / fresh / veggie focused and got 5-6 dishes to share. My favorites: -Summer corn Gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle butter (creamy but still light and bright, full of umami flavor) -Summer squash tartare (vegetarian version of tuna tartare that has a lightly charred flavor and squash was almost "meaty" ) I also liked the Salmon Crudo which comes with a delicious passion fruit vinaigrette. Flavor is unique, but portion is very small (3-4 bites). I wasn't a huge fan of the deviled eggs - it comes in a jar with layers of eggs, pickles, mayo - too much mayo for my liking. I thought the Heirloom tomato caprese dish was just ok - the tomato seems to be a bit over ripe/mushy and overall a little bland. Good spot for happy hour/taste night and the menu offers something for everyone (steaks/pasta/veggies/seafood...). You can lounge around after dining. The decor is modern with open floor and high ceilings. Plenty of parking with free validation, and headache-free (at least for now). Overall, I adore this place! This is surely one of my fave places for brunch! Also, i really appreciate that they have reservations. Excellent food but I wish there were more vegetarian options. I had the wild mushroom risotto because that was the only vegetarian entree and it was very good. I would go here more often if they had more vegetarian food. The rolls melt in your mouth and the bar makes excellent cocktails. read more

We have been going to Solstice since it opened but this is the last time. Our service was horrible- the waitress Maria hardly came to our table to check on us. The Thanksgiving meal was average. The bill had a 3% Technology fee???!!! Why are they padding the bill. The explanation we got is that its for their Ipads...WTF??!!! I will never be going back to Solstice. read more

The restaurant has outdoor dining but no dog allowed. The whole broadwalk area is not dog friendly. The info on yelp was misleading.
