The pasta is delicious and house made. I had the truffle pasta and if you like truffle, you should definitely get a pasta off the truffle menu. I'm still thinking about it. We went here last night for my birthday dinner with my family. We were immediately impressed with how they accomodated us. We originally requested an outside table but once we arrived, they said they had a table outside as requested but due to the heat, we were also offered an inside table. We had Gio as our server and he was incredible. By the end of the night, he felt more like an old friend than our server. He joked around with us, offered suggestions, and even sang to me (happy birthday to you too Gio!) The food and drinks were amazing as well. I told Gio that I do not drink alcohol but wanted a fun drink and he came back with a delicious mocktail. We started with the zucchini blossom special appetizer. The blossoms were so light and crispy. My boyfriend got the lasagna and said it was the best that he has ever had (and he is picky about his lasagna!) My mom had the sea bass special and I had the butternut squash ravioli special. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We finished off with the creme brulee and the tiramisu, along with my special birthday dessert and song. Thank you Oliver's and Gio for making my birthday so special. Our corner booth was perfect for hubby and I. The menu was so good with many seafood items. We started off with sparkling water and Vesper martini. For appetizers we decided on Caesar salad, lentil soup and special crab cake. For mains we decided on octopus pizza, lobster and shrimp pasta, special veal risotto and whole branzino. She was also very attentive, but not overbearing. Ordered one of the truffle pastas, and they do not skimp on the shavings. Random note, but I love the versatile atmosphere here--it strikes a great balance between casual and upscale with zero pretentiousness. We made reservations online and were seated immediately. There is a bar seating area, general seating areas, and a private table area separated by glass. POLPETTE ($27) - the meat was soft and I loved the cheese on the inside. I also liked dipping the crispy bread in the sauce. I really enjoyed these. 4.5/5 FRITTO MISTO ($29) - this was their calamari and I liked the slightly chewy texture. There was also fried zucchini and shrimp and I liked the variety. 4/5 PROSCUITTO E BURRATA ($28) - this pizza had a combination of both salty (from the prosciutto) and sweet (from the burrata). I liked that the crust was thin and chewy. 4/5 TAGLIATELLE ALLA BOLOGNESE ($35) - the pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. There was a good portion of meat and the sauce was also pretty cheesy. 4.5/5 For drinks the bellini meenie miney moe ($17) was fruity and easy to drink and the espressotini ($17) had a strong coffee flavor. Gorgeous space, great food, and one important lesson learned: happy hour prices are bar only. Dining room does not count and nobody told us until we were already seated and emotionally committed. File that away! Aperol spritz was delicious, service was attentive and lovely. The one vibe killer? Flies in the dining room. In a space this pretty, that's a shame. Calamari was great but the real star was the marinara it came with, had a pleasant kick and I was not expecting to fall in love with a dipping sauce but here we are. Squash blossoms were a classic, caprese was sweet and perfect because tomato szn is real and she showed up. Pasta was so good and A+++ for plating skills. Apple cake with ice cream was a lovely way to close out the meal. It's pricey, just know that going in. Sit at the bar for happy hour, enjoy the gorgeous space, and watch out for the flies. They will let you make a change if you're a vegetarian and need something.. not on the meaty menu and it doesn't seem to diminish any taste nor flare! I love Italian food so I was excited to try out this restaurant, but I was severely disappointed. Aesthetically, the restaurant is pretty cute. Seating had a more casual vibe, but the chandeliers and lighting give some elegance to the room. To start, the Focaccia bread and Insalata Cesare were both delicious. The three entrees we ordered fell short though. For mains we ordered the Lasagna Classica, Tortelli di Erbette, and the Branzino al Sale. The Lasagna was very meat heavy, which was great, but there wasn't much cheese. The Tortelli di Erbette was very bland and the portion was very small. Finally, the presentation for the Branzino was top notch. The server poured vodka and lit the fish on fire before dissecting it tableside. The meat was very tender and delicate, but it needed some kind of sauce, which I think the server forgot to place on the table. Overall, most of the food was pretty lacking in flavor and the portion sizes were small for the price. The service wasn't great either so I doubt I'd return here any time soon. read more

This might be one of the most authentic Italian restaurants I've been to in Orange County. The place has a refined, upscale atmosphere. Our server was, I believe, from Italy, which made the experience feel even more authentic. He was very friendly, and had that cheeky, no-nonsense charm that somehow made the service even more enjoyable. What I appreciated most about Oliver's Trattoria is their philosophy toward pasta. So many restaurants load pasta dishes up with proteins, vegetables, and a dozen other distractions. Here, the pasta is the star of the show. Everything is handmade, and the dishes are designed to let the pasta do the talking. Cacio e Pepe (9/10) - Phenomenal. It's surprisingly difficult to find a cacio e pepe around here, so I was glad to even see it on the menu. My only critique is that it was just a tad too salty and maybe had a little too much cheese, if such a thing is even possible. Truffle Beef Carpaccio (10/10) - Oh my days. This was the highlight of the meal. The truffle flavour came through beautifully and paired perfectly with the delicate slices of beef. Truffle Pasta (7/10) - The pasta itself was perfectly al dente. My only issue was that the truffle flavor felt a bit muted, especially considering the price point.. Been wanting to try Oliver's Trattoria in Irvine for a while and finally managed to get a reservation for Friday evening at 6:30pm and the place was packed. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which had the perfect ambience as the evening started to settle in. We started with the Fritto Misto, which was awesome. The calamari and shrimp had just the right amount of breading, and the arrabbiata sauce pairing was spot on. For dinner, the three of us decided to share a few dishes: the Branzino al Sale, Margherita pizza, and Spaghetti allo Scoglio. The Branzino al Sale had a great tableside flame presentation, and they deboned and filleted it for us, which was really impressive. We were super excited for it, but unfortunately it was way too salty for our taste. We mentioned it to our waiter, and he handled it really well by switching it out for the lamb chop special of the day. That ended up being the star of the night, honestly one of the best lamb chops we've had. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender and love the chimichurri sauce with it. The Margherita and Spaghetti allo Scoglio were both very good as well. To finish, we shared the Affogato, Panna Cotta, and Tiramisu, and all three desserts were amazing. Such a delicious dinner! I came to Oliver's Trattoria with my family to celebrate my sister's high school graduation, and it ended up being such a wonderful dinner. Everything we tried tasted so fresh, homemade, and thoughtfully prepared. Every dish was completely on point. My absolute favorite was the lobster risotto. Their risotto special changes every week, and the week we went, it was lobster risotto. It was SO delicious creamy, flavorful, and honestly one of the highlights of the entire meal. If you see it on the menu, definitely order it! And as a huge tiramisu fan, I have to talk about the tiramisu. It was SO, SO good and easily one of the best tiramisus I've had. It was the perfect way to end the meal. The service was also fantastic. Our waiter was so kind, sweet, and attentive throughout the entire dinner. He really made the experience feel special without being overbearing. I also loved the atmosphere. The restaurant feels really airy and welcoming, with a calm and relaxing vibe. It was pretty quiet when we went, which made it really nice for having dinner and actually being able to talk with my family. Fortunately, we were seated right away at a booth towards the back of the restaurant near the server station (not the best view). It seemed pretty busy overall. We were glad we didn't have to wait for a table. I didn't catch our server's name, but he was friendly and spoke with an accent. The restaurant is beautiful and tastefully decorated with modern accents throughout. There is a bar in the front on the side as you enter and different dining areas, including an outdoor patio. The lighting is perfect for each section creating a cozy, warm and inviting ambience. Complimentary fresh warm bread with an olive tapenade dip was brought out while waiting for our dishes. This was very nice since we were both hungry. We started off with the Polpette, beef tenderloin meatballs, stuffed with taleggio cheese served with Arrabiata sauce and green peas. These were tasty initially. I wasn't too crazy about the texture of the inside of the meatball, which was rather extra soft or mushy. It was a little on the stronger cheesy side for me. Next up, we had sausage and mushroom pizza with parmigiano cheese, or known as Boscaiola. I enjoyed the different variety of mushroom toppings. Again initially, I enjoyed the flavors, but the strong cheese was overpowering for my taste. I'm not accustomed to that much cheese since I am lactose intolerant, but wanted to indulge in the authentic flavors for the full experience. Lastly, we had a pasta dish, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese with Parmigiano Reggiano. I enjoyed the texture of the fresh pasta the most. At this point, I think the strong presence of cheese got to me and I lost interest. We brought our leftovers home. Weekday 7pm reservation for a birthday. The hostess gave us an option of indoor or outdoor seating upon check in, which was nice since it didn't ask on open table. Server was quick to come by and get our drink order and tell us the specials. Bread is complimentary but came out cold. Food was ok. Nothing wrong with it really but not amazing either. I tried all 3 things ordered. The caccio e peppe spaghetti was very al dente so it made it hard (literally) to enjoy the sauce, I wouldn't have been able to eat it if it was my dish. The tagliatelle bolognese was the best in my opinion; the pasta was cooked perfectly and the meat in the bolognese was tender and flavorful. I did find it to be extremely salty and greasy though and I usually like salt. The pizza sauce was good and we upgraded to the mozzarella di bufala, no complaints from my husband even though it looked like mainly sauce and came out kind of sloppy. I attended a lunch business meeting at Oliver's. Tbh wasn't looking forward to Italian food in the middle of the day in August so showed up reluctantly. The service for lunch was fast. Two people in our party of 4 ordered the branzino which seemed ok and they said it was good. One person ordered the pasta but she was a visitor from taiwan and said it was great. I ordered their prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich that came with a side of green salad and tomato. Boy I was surprised at how big it was and how delish it was. Was able to only eat half and took the rest home. Restaurant was pretty busy for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Ambiance is typical Irvine locale. read more

Amazing! All the vibes and all the flavors! Stopped in here prior to my daughter's soccer practice and we both agreed very pleased from start to finish. Beautiful restaurant indoors or outdoors. It was nice weather so we opted to sit out on the covered patio. Our waiter was prompt and knew the menu very well. He was sure to mention the specials and was very polite with my daughter by suggesting the Shirley temple + extra cherry. Oh and that bread to start with!!! Mmmmmm! While there was a wonderful selection to choose from my daughter ordered a fire oven pepperoni pizza while I opted for my favorite Cacio e Pepe. I also indulged in a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. My daughter love love loved her pizza! I've never seen her tummy get so full with enjoyment in every bite. I may have stole a slice later and can confirm it's yumminess haha! Tagliatelle de Bolognese: this was the most fantastic bolognese ever (hands down). Made with homemade pasta and deliciously served with bechamel and bolognese sauce. I'm gonna be honest, in most restaurants, the Bolognese tends to have that slight gaming scent and taste to it. Here at Oliver's Trattoria, the Bolognese has just absolutely splendid. This is a must must try. 2. Tagliolini al Limone: Homemade linguine with a creamy and buttery texture, and cheesy Parmesan sauce. The lemon notes were just perfectly added which balanced the excessive buttery flavor. I'm usually a marinara or Bolognese type of girl when it comes to my pasta, but the tagliolini al limone was a five star dish. So happy we took the advice of our server. 3. Prosciutto E Burrata pizza: oven cooked pizza with a generous layer of cheesy mozzarella Dior di latte topped with a 24 month aged prosciutto San Daniele, basil, arugula, and burrata. Another A+++ This restaurant was very impressive. Service with fast and the staff definitely knew the menu very well. I'm excited to go back and try few more dishes. Usually its just calamari but this had zucchini, shrimps, small fish, and squid. All mixed in to each other and very delicious For mains we got the special of the day risotto. Returned to Oliver's Trattoria for a special occasion. This time we were seated in the dining room, which is much brighter and not as noisy as the patio. The Salmone all'Aglio Nero ($40), with a tasty citrus-black garlic sauce, was perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and soft interior. The housemade pastas were excellent - Tagliatelle alla Bolognese ($33) and Spaghetti allo Scoglio ($38), which was loaded with mussels, shrimp and calamari. We didn't order dessert since we had cake at home, but they gave us a complimentary panna cotta (which was very nice). Not sure what happened today, but boy was the pizza REALLY OFF. I'm a long time regular customer that often orders the Margherita Pizza both in-house and take-out, and have always been happy to pay the extra $$ premium for it because it has always been solid. Haven't been there in about 2 months, but I ordered it for take out lunch today, and I was sooooo diapppointed. Store bought $10 pizza (even store brand) would have tasted better and had a better texture than what I was given. Sooooo disappointed. Not sure if it was just a weird one off, or a sign that the kitchen and quality (at least during lunch) has reduced down to sub-par standards. I have always been a big fan of this establishment since it first opened in Quail Hill, and previously in Laguna Canyon. Not sure I'll be back to give it another try anytime soon. read more

My family and I arrived around 6:25 for our 6:30 reservation to celebrate my partner's and my birthday. Upon first entering, I thought the restaurant was warm and cozy, especially on a rainy evening. The host offered us a booth suited for 5 people, but it was a tight squeeze for the 6 of us so we asked to wait for a more spacious table. We ended up being seated at a table next to the bar around 6:50. The wait was a bit long considering that we had made a reservation in advance, but the service was top notch once we sat down! Our server Amira was amazing - so friendly, helpful, and kind to us. She checked in on us regularly, brought us bread for the table multiple times, and made sure we had everything we needed. She was super great! We ordered our food to share family style since the portions were so large. For appetizers, we ordered the Fritto Misto calamari and the Polpette meatballs. The calamari was light and crispy, but the meatballs were a little soft. I think I would have preferred them to be more solid. But the Insalata di Barbabietole (arugula with goat cheese, walnuts, beets, and citrus) was a tasty and refreshing salad to pair with the heavier menu items. For entrees, we enjoyed the Gnocchi a Scelta with Pomodoro, which was was delicious and perfectly cooked. Loved the tomato-based sauce that wasn't too acidic. The Short Rib Risotto was a bit too heavy for my preference but the rest of my family enjoyed it a lot. Lastly, the Speck e Funghi pizza was okay, it was a bit dry and the smoked proscuitto was thicker than I'd like. Once we finished our meal, Amira then brought us two complementary panna cottas for a birthday dessert which were really tasty! We kicked things off with their focaccia bread and olive dip, and honestly, that dip should come with a warning label. We wiped the plate clean and asked for seconds without hesitation. The salamino Neapolitan pizza had just the right kick with a perfect crust. The beet salad was fresh and bright. The strozzapreti truffle pasta was next level, rich, earthy, and ridiculously good. Our server made the whole experience even better. His thick Italian accent said it all. Friendly, attentive, and always checking in to make sure we were taken care of. This was my second time dining here. Everything we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience. Our server, who I believe was named Athos, was unprofessional and rude (other servers were not professional either). When I paid the bill, I left a 15% tip, which is still a reasonable tip, especially considering the service. He was standing right next to me and saw the amount. Instead of thanking us, he immediately tossed the receipt aside and walked away without saying a word. Earlier, when he brought our silverware, he placed it down carelessly and with enough force that it felt disrespectful rather than welcoming. This is not the level of hospitality I expect from a nice restaurant. It's unfortunate because the food was good, but service is a big part of the overall dining experience. Been here several times and it never misses. Services on point the decor is classy and welcoming. Great menu options. The polipo is a can't miss for an appetizer. We could seriously eat this for dinner. We always love the red meat Ragu with pappardelle this time it was oxtail and it was so good! Had the vegan pizza (3/5) and the tiramisu delivered. The pizza was disappointing - the tomato sauce was average with some caramelised onions and basil. Elegant restaurant but the service both times I dined here with my husband earlier this year was unacceptable. Both times, we came here during lunch time during the weekday and it was not busy. Both times we had waiters with beautiful Italian accents, but they were not friendly at all. Both times they took our order, then dropped off our food and NEVER came back to check up on us or give us our bill or refill our water. It was NOT busy at all, I had no clue where they went both times. Now to the food. The complimentary focaccia bread with Olive tapenade the first time was amazing. It was the best complimentary bread we ever had. Fresh and hot out of the oven. It was delicious and exceptional. The second time, the bread was very cold and didn'lt taste as good as the first time. Meatballs were boring in flavor and raw in the middle by about 1/4 of an inch inside. Couldn't tell the waiter as no waiter came by to check on us. Calamari was some of the best I've ever had. The star of the show is the lemon pasta for lunch. Order it with a side of grilled shrimp. And I still think about it till this day. It's the best pasta I've ever had, hands down. The pizza is solid here. Both times had to flag down a busser for our bill as no waiter was in site the whole time both times after our order were taken. For the price I would expect 5 star service each and every time but let down both times. Which is why we have not come back. read more
