Everything was hot and fresh and delicious and the flavors were amazing. The sole was perfectly tender and the citrusy flavor was amazing with the capers. The pizza was also great. The crust tasted home made and was baked to perfection. I would skip over dessert next time. The custard in my caramel brûlée was grainy. Turns out they are both independent and not affiliated with each other after all. Regardless, Luna Rossa didn't disappoint and the food was quite tasty. This restaurant is located at The District right in front of the AMC theater. I went to this restaurant with a friend to try out their OC restaurant week menu. An appetizer, main course, and dessert was $45. We arrived without a reservation but were seated within minutes. During the course of our dinner, no waiter checked on us specifically so we had to wave someone down if we saw them walking around. I did ask if they had a nonalcoholic drink menu and the waiter said they didn't. He did count off some options they had like a blood orange soda but when I opted to get that, I received san pellegrino instead. I got the salad which was fairly good. It was drenched in dressing which I didn't mind and it was very filling. However the main course I got which was the pescatora pasta wasn't very good at all. Some of the clams were missing the clam meat inside and the calamari was very gummy (nearly inedible). I found myself picking around it and just eating the pasta which was bland. The dessert of tiramisu was very sweet. I feel like they added too much mascarpone on top and i wasnt really tasting the spongy breading underneath. The restaurant itself was fairly clean. Not many people dining inside when I was there and the restaurant was completely empty for the majority of our dinner (I believe two ppl came in near the end). I wasn't bothered because there was a larger group behind us, so it'd make sense to seat them there. We were ultimately seated at a bar top, which was fine. Arrived on a Monday night after making a reservation for 5 PM. For this time did not think it was necessary as there was very few customers. We met another couple there and was seated promptly. Our waiter greeted us immediately with water and soon later brought us complementary house bread. Sorry to say this review is being written a week or so after enjoying our time at Luna Rossa. I cannot remember everyone's meal choices but can say I had a salmon special, which was very good. Other three in the party enjoyed their meals as well. Started with the bread, butter (have to ask for butter) and their olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Didn't get any drinks or apps this time around because we wanted to finish all our food. We split two dishes: Spaghetti Chicken Pesto and a Pepperoni Pizza. Both were fantastic. No complaints. The Spaghetti Chicken Pesto was hot, creamy, and pasta cooked perfectly. The pizza was thin, crispy and on point. The service was also good. Nothing to write home about. Our server had a very stoic/mellow personality lol. Tried to engage him in more conversation but he wasn't in the mood haha. Super slow night for them. Only about 5 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. But the Busser was super nice. Ended the night with some cappuccino's and Tiramisu. Again no complaints on either. Tiramisu was perfect. Highly recommend this dessert. Clean and cozy atmosphere. We really liked coming here. Sat down and when we asked about the special, we were told the waiter said he would check and then he came back and said you can't order those. Said something about menus weren't ready and specials not available until 3 pm so we couldn't order that. Lunch special that only applies after 3 pm? Note food in the specials listed are their normal items on the menu so seems like an excuse to get customers to pay full price who walked in because of the advertising of participating in OC Restaurant week. So I'd avoid and choose a place that at least isn't trying to scam you. Shame because you throw away any chance of a repeat customer as well as other potential customers. read more

Luna Rossa was a place that was pretty decent for an Italian Restaurant, but nothing over the top or insanely remarkable. Ordered two dishes: Capellini con calamari ($33) and Risotto ai Funghi Porcini ($31). Kind of expensive for what it was, but at least the portion sizes were decent and I had enough to take home for an extra meal. Capellini: The biggest (but not major) issue I had with this was that the ratio of sauce to pasta was somewhat lacking. When the dish was served it looked very presentable and the angel hair pasta looked like it was well incorporated into the sauce, but then after mixing it a bit I realized that almost everything immediately not visible under the first layer of sauce was all pasta, making it less incorporated towards the end. Everything else was great though, good portions of calamari, the sauce itself was great, everything tasted fresh and simple but well executed. Risotto: The better of the two dishes in my opinion. Has a lot of mushroom flavor, the rice was not overcooked and mushy, which tends to be a problem with risotto due to the cream and such. I don't do too well with heavy, creamy food so I wasn't able to get through a lot of it but for people who enjoy it and enjoy mushrooms, it definitely delivers as advertised. Restaurant ambiance is nice, they go for a more homestyle decorated restaurant and it's cute/works well. The biggest plus I had was that the walls are not very echoey, so it makes the restaurant not too loud, a usual quip I have with Italian restaurants in general. I could actually talk at a normal voice and hear the people around me at the table, and opened up for more comfortable conversation and a better experience in general. One negative I had was the singular hostess working the front was in charge of handling reservations, putting people on the waitlist, handling calls for takeout, guiding people to their seats, and even giving water to us. I definitely don't blame her, but as a result of having one person do all the guiding work there was a noticeable delay in the whole experience (coming into the restaurant up until the food comes to your table).
