1/2 and 1/2 special

The restaurant had a very welcoming atmosphere, and everyone there was nice and pleasant. The staff was friendly, which made the experience comfortable from the moment we arrived. The place was busy, mostly with what seemed like locals, so it definitely gave the impression of being a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the atmosphere. The presentation was underwhelming, and overall I just wasn't very impressed with the meal itself. While the service and environment were enjoyable, the food was disappointing enough that I most likely won't be returning.

The half sandwich and soup is a whole lot of food. This is meatballs.

We had a great experience overall. Just reminds you of a great cozy Italian restaurant. Smells delicious the minute you walk in. We had really nice service when we went for a lunch. They have special items for the lunch menu. Patio's pretty nice if you want to sit outside.

I ordered one of the special dishes, and it was really good 4/5 . However, the shrimp scampi was too watery and bland 3/5 . You could taste the lemon, but overall, it was just okay. The calamari was good 4/5 , but the Parmesan on top ruined the dish. It was too much, and the cheese on top was overpowering. Staffs are very attentive and the place is spacious with indoor and outdoor sitting.

Cannelloni

Really good food with quick service. I ordered the pepperoni rolls, cannelloni, and cannoli and they were all delicious. My favorite was the pepperoni rolls - simple, but made with fresh ingredients and bread and cheese is the ultimate combo. They also provide free bread that's crunchy on the outside and soft inside, along with butter. The one downside is that since it's an older building there is a smell, but you may get use to it after being there for a while, or you can ask to be seated outside.

Roma D Italia is a great Italian restaurant in the heart of Tustin. They have a large menu with authentic home cooked Italian favorites. Their pepperoni bread, antipasto salads and pasta entrees are delicious and served in large portions. This is a great place for date nights and celebrations. Highly recommend - and save room for dessert!

Ist try at the family owned, Roma D' Italia. I love the welcoming feelings from my waiter, Fernando. He knew his menu & helped me find the creamy Fettuccine Alfredo w/ shrimp. The meal was enough for 2. I like the archaic look. Getting to meet the manager, Jose, was a nice guy. Felt honored to talk to the family owner, Anna. Shared how some recipes go back generations She had patients & time to hear about the great taste I had in here.

Luckily we called in advance so we didn't need to wait during a busy weekend night. We tried this place last time and just had to come again! We tried their pepperoni bread last time which was delicious, and this time we ordered the sausage bread. Both were greatly paired with their side of meat sauce. I prefer the pepperoni, but both is a must try! It's huge menu with a bunch of variety. They have signature pastas, pizza, baked pasta, sandwiches, and all open to customizations. I swapped some of their spaghetti dishes for linguine and they were happy to do so. Their veal was also very delicious, not dry at all compared to other places who make them.

Spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs

This might be one of the best Italian spots in OC! Came here for a date night with my boyfriend and we got seated right away, which is always a win. We had the pepperoni pizza bread, pizza, and spaghetti with meatballs. The pizza bread is the perfect way to kick things off, and the pasta tastes like it came straight from a family cookbook. Everything hit just right, and I'm definitely telling all my friends about this place. Can't wait to come back and try even more!

Cannoli

We came here on a Saturday night and it was very busy and a bit chaotic inside. However, we were able to get seated pretty quickly (15 min wait tops) and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. Our food also came out pretty quickly with how busy it was. I got the Tortellini Alfredo and asked for a mix of Pesto and Alfredo sauce which they were eager to do for me. The tortellini was great but the sauce didn't fulfill my expectations. I think there might have been too much pesto than Alfredo sauce? It tasted a bit bland. The Penne Amore was delicious and I highly recommend this dish. For dessert, we shared a cannoli which was a yummy sweet treat to end the meal! No complaints. I loved the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. It felt very inviting and authentic.

Gnocchi

Love the atmosphere. Family style restaurant. The wait can be long. Small parking lot is on the side of the restaurant. There is also another parking lot across the street. I wanted to love the restaurant but my gnocchi lacks favor and the service was super slow on a Friday night. However, I do love the spinach bread appetizer. I could totally eat that with a glass of wine for dinner and be happy. They also have a kids menu for $8.95 with pasta options, bread and a drink.

Cheese Ravioli with meat sauce

Roma D'Italia is our favorite lunch spot when we're craving pasta, just like mama used to make! The ambiance is what we remember from our childhoods - red and white checkered tablecloths, Frankie and Dean crooning in the background (iykyk), and not too brightly lit. The service is friendly and familiar, the same people who have greeted us for years take good care of everyone. Now the food - expect hot fresh rolls from the oven, a little butter, a little parm, and Mama Mia! My go to dish is cheese ravioli with meat sauce - the best of both worlds. My companions love the Pepperoni Bread, House Salad, and a side of meatballs. If you're really hungry, try the lasagna or gnocchi. Buon appetito!

Bruschetta
Hannah R.

Our first time here looking for a great family style Italian dinner. Super busy on a Friday night but wait was fast and service was great. Loved the bruschetta! Both entrees were delicious. Can't wait to come back and try the pizza bc it looked and smelled amazing!!

Ask the Community - Roma D' Italia

Is there a dessert cover?

Yes! Customers are always very understanding and willing to pay the fee for any sort of outside desserts or treats.

Is there a private dining area for small groups and parties?

Yes

Do they take reservations?

No, but you can call ahead and let them know you are coming if you have a large party. Usually not much of a wait

Are there any gluten free options?

Do they take reservations?

We call before we go and they add our name to their list.

Are they open for lunch on Saturday's? The hours of operation lead me to think that they are, but then the page says that lunch is only served Mon-Fri until 3pm. Does that mean no lunch on Saturday? Why are they open then?

Yes they are open for lunch on weekends. They are open at 11am - 9:30pm on Saturdays and you can order anything from the dinner menu. (No lunch combos and dinner prices)

Do you serve cocktails?

Yes, they do. They have a full bar

Is there room for a stroller to be by a table of 2?

On their outdoor patio. The tables inside are packed pretty tight. I'd go in less busy timeframes. There are better Italian options honestly...

Do you have wine?

Yes, they have wine. Red, white, Italian, Californian, etc. They also have a full bar.

Are pets allowed on the patio?

No, only service animals are welcome

Do they take reservations?

No I don't think so. Sometimes before a holiday like Valentines Day or Easter, they put out an informal waiting list the week before

Does this restaurant require Covid vaccine?

No! Just proper PPE and a good vibe.

How is outdoor dining here? Are there heaters?

Yes! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Great atmosphere and vibe. I believe there was some heating system but it's very nice and they are accommodating. Ciao

Can you eat inside?

Yes, they have indoor and outdoor dining.

Any delivery tie-ups with Grubhub, Doordash or Uber Eats?

No we don't have any delivery.

Do they serve items from the dinner menu during lunch time?

I have ordered dinner items during their lunch hours before, but it has been a while since that time. I would call and ask to be sure.

I'm looking for a place to accommodate a group of 24 adults celebrating birthdays for this Friday June 21st. Do you have a private room or....? Can we bring our own wine? thank you kindly.

It's actually pretty standard for restaurants to charge a corkage fee and a desert cover. Corkage is only $15 per bottle and desert cover is only $1.50 per person. Completely in the realm of reasonable IMHO.

Whats the corkage fee?

$15 per bottle.

Is this a good place for my kids who are allergic to egg? Do the ingredients have egg : the pasta noodle, pasta sauce, meatball.etc..?

Unfortunately a lot of the dishes do include egg, but you can find egg free options throughout the menu. The grilled chicken or salmon with vegetable is totally egg free, as are most of the salads. The pasta does have egg in it, but there are many… Read more

He assured me I shouldn't have any issues. I will assume he forgot it was Mother's day weekend lol. When we arrived the hostess told us all of the big tables were full and it would be a 30 minute wait. She also said the kitchen closes down at 1:45 so.... In other words my chances of dining in were slim to none? Or we would not be able to order any food once we are seated?? I really am not sure where she was going with that. My daughter stepped in and asked if there were tables available outside. She said there was but it was probably too small for us, we asked to go see and thought the table was actually perfect for us. So we asked to be seated there. We had plenty of elbow room and the table fit our food perfectly so I am not sure why she thought it was too small. Overall we did not feel like she was taking much initiative to be accomadating on a holiday weekend. The food was so authentic and amazing that I didn't even care. My pesto was so fresh and flavorful, the pasta was cooked perfectly. Everyone in my family ordered something different and everyone loved their dish! Service was friendly but not very attentive. They add a 20% gratuity for parties 6 and up. The restaurant inside and outside is super duper cute and charming. I would definitely come back again as the food was just so good, I would hope to have a better experience with service next time though. I am always very aware and forgiving when going out Mother's day weekend.

The biz associate who invited me said Barolo is where all the financing guys in OC hang out. It is located in a strip mall off Newport & 6th near Old Town Tustin. Barolo is a quaint place w/ indoor & outdoor seating. I believe the owner's name is Giuseppe, who hails fr Genoa. In any case, he was a super nice guy, and let my associate order off the menu. The host's colleague and I had Chilean sea bass in a lemon caper sauce. My biz associate had pasta w/ calamari in white sauce (not pictured). The sea bass was excellent, and it was a big portion. The fish was moist and paired well w/ the sauce. You can get entrees w/ a side of pasta also. I didn't pay, but most of the entrees I saw on the menu were approximately $20. The servers were super friendly and nice. You really feel at home here, similar to a trattoria in Italy. I golf w/ some business colleagues occasionally nearby. My husband, his uncle and I were lucky to get a table when we arrived around 6 as the restaurant was nearly full and they asked if we had reservations. The patio dining area is in the parking lot, but it's sectioned off nicely with some large blinds and the tablecloth covered tables make it feel like an extension of the restaurant. Upon sitting they gave us a basket of focaccia. I liked that the olive oil and balsamic dispenser was on the table and we didn't need to ask. Barolo's menu was not too overwhelming with just two pages and one being solely for wine/drinks. For food, I ordered the angel hair shrimp, my husband ordered the chicken piccata and his uncle got the meat ravioli. I liked that the meals came with a house salad and that the server brought over a bowl of Parmesan. I added a lot of Parmesan to my salad and entree. I liked the shrimp in my dish and my husband liked his chicken and the sauce, but found the red pasta bowl that came with it an odd choice. The pasta and sauce were fine, but the flavors didn't combine right with the plate of chicken. Overall the food was good, but nothing made us feel that we need to return right away, however I can see why this place is such a neighborhood staple. The service was great the entire time. I appreciate that they brought out water for our dog and it seemed that all the waiters were happy working there.
