If you live in Tustin, have ever lived in Tustin, or have spent more than a day in Tustin, you've probably eaten at Roma D' Italia. The city has older landmarks (the remaining blimp hangar from the 1940s, Tustin High School from 1921, El Camino Real from 1769), but few are as beloved as the restaurant the Dominic Corea family opened in 1961. Roma D' Italia serves a wide range of Italian favorites: pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soups and salads, specialty breads, veal, seafood, chicken and desserts. The building, in what's known as Old Town Tustin next to the Saddleback Flower Shop, doesn't look all that fancy, and it isn't. But inside, it's warm and welcoming, and the staff is friendly and efficient. We stopped in for lunch. The bread brought to the table before the meal was mediocre, but things improved quickly. I ordered the spaghetti with the signature meat sauce and meatballs ($19.50), and my wife ordered the gnocchi Catanzaro ($18.95), swapping the creamy tomato sauce for the spicy arrabbiata. We also split an order of garlic bread. The spaghetti was good, the meatballs were done just right, and the meat sauce was perfect. My wife's gnocchi was quite good too. The little potato dumplings were tender, though calling the arrabbiata "spicy" is an understatement. She liked it, but she was still trying to cool her mouth more than an hour later (true story). The garlic bread, unfortunately, was so-so. It was a skimpy portion for $4.50, and frankly, we got better garlic bread on Spaghetti Day in our junior high cafeteria. I know it's heresy in Tustin to say anything negative about Roma D' Italia. As I said, it's an institution. (I once complained about their lasagna and was practically run out of town on a rail. Seriously, Tustin folks protect Roma D' Italia's legacy as if it were their own.) Bread aside, the meal was delicious, and it's easy to see why the place has lasted more than 60 years. read more

This is a old style Italian restaurant in Old Town Tustin with the classic red and white checkered table cloth and big menu of pasta. I ordered the lasagne and it was quite good. I wouldn't say the best I've ever had, but solid and very tasty. My wife had the seafood platter which is linguine with seafood including fish, clams, mussels, squid, shrimp, and scallops. There's a choice of red or white sauce. We had it with red, and it's great. It's a nice light red sauce with some tomato... Very well balanced. The fish was very well cooked -- tender and tasty. The squid was a little overcooked. But, overall, a great dish. The caprese salad was fine. Nothing special, but fine. The prices were very reasonable. We're definitely coming back. read more

Really good food with quick service. I ordered the pepperoni rolls, cannelloni, and cannoli and they were all delicious. My favorite was the pepperoni rolls - simple, but made with fresh ingredients and bread and cheese is the ultimate combo. They also provide free bread that's crunchy on the outside and soft inside, along with butter. The one downside is that since it's an older building there is a smell, but you may get use to it after being there for a while, or you can ask to be seated outside. read more

Has been my go-to for Italian food. My regular order is calamari and angel hair chicken fresco. The calamari is well seasoned and tender and love the marinara sauce it comes with and that they give a good amount of it so you don't have to be stingy with the dipping. Even the lemons it comes with are hella juicy. The angel hair chicken fresco is simple and isn't that saucy but there's a lot of flavor, def garlic forward. It comes with a good amount of chicken so I can enjoy most of my bites with chicken and noodle. I've also tried their eggplant Parmesan, meatball with marinara, spinach bread, tortellini, cannelloni, and shell combo pasta. All were delicious and would def get again. No complaints except I would've loved if they had a vodka sauce like a spicy vodka rigatoni dish cuz that's a pasta dish I love in general. read more

At least that is what I am finding out. Some things are good and others are just not. This time I sampled some new entrees out. I ordered the salmon salad. It was alright. The salmon wasn't cooked all the way through and was a little too pink for me. I also tried the calzone. It was different. The filling was a mixture of ricotta cheese and other things. It wasn't a stretchy or stringy cheese. Not enough mozzarella in the calzone for me. I like a stretchy mozzarella cheese in my calzones. The ricotta mixture was very creamy, but it didn't have the mozzarella taste that I like. My husband also agreed that it was weird. Service was good. Our waitress was really friendly. Haven't been here in years and it's improved so much! I remember this place smelling damp and the food tasting reheated a few years ago, but I gave it another chance and am glad I did so. I went with my family and wasn't sure what to get, so I asked the waiter what was the most similar to a spicy vodka pasta. However, we were able to get seated pretty quickly (15 min wait tops) and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. Our food also came out pretty quickly with how busy it was. I got the Tortellini Alfredo and asked for a mix of Pesto and Alfredo sauce which they were eager to do for me. The tortellini was great but the sauce didn't fulfill my expectations. I think there might have been too much pesto than Alfredo sauce? It tasted a bit bland. The Penne Amore was delicious and I highly recommend this dish. The pricing is fair for Italian food, and the taste is incredibly authentic and delicious.
