Wine and old fashion at Prego
    Lorraine B.

Our first time at Prego was a success! The ambiance was nice and relaxing, very chill vibe. Our server Kyleigh was very sweet and helpful with suggestions on the menu. I had the Penne Arrabbiata, the sauce was delicious! The portion was very filling as well. We also ordered the Tiger Shrimp Diavola. The pasta was good, but the sauce was on the lighter side. No fault of the chef, this is a matter of preference. I did enjoy the large shrimps and overall the dish was good. For drinks we ordered a glass of wine and an old fashion. Desert, we had the crème Brûlée, it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back to try more items on the menu.

We popped in here after a movie and sat at the bar. The bartender was super engaged and helpful. He told his name was Izzy. By the end of our dinner, we were chatting with size, and we decided he is one of the main reasons we will come back. He made our whole dinner fun and inviting. The restaurant itself wants to be really nice. It's just regular nice. The furniture and walls are a dark wood. It feels slightly dated. Like something from the 90's. The lighting is a little too bright for the dark steakhouse vibes they are going for. But, we enjoyed it regardless. The food was good for what it is. Nothing blew us away. But it was solid, and the flavors were right. The Caesar dressing on the salad was quality. It had just the right blend of flavors and lots of Parmesan. We got the filet of sole and it was nice and light. The sauce was good. I've had better. But, I liked it. The meatballs were in a great vodka sauce. They were tender. I am really picky about meatballs, and these stood up. We loved meeting some regulars at the bar. Izzy was extremely accommodating, helping us get the channel on the TV for opening night of baseball. This is a good spot. We would definitely come back.

If you love good food and would like to send your love to our local eateries, give me a thumbs up my Yelp fiends.

SERVICE Last night's tall and kind server was the best. He understood I was allergic to cheese and when he said "I got ya!" it made me feel understood, not judged or made to feel like I was a weirdo (side note: I AM weird, ok? Happy now?) AMBIENCE Highly recommend for a romantic date.

This is nice higher-end Italian restaurant. We've been here a few times and it's usually not full. While it's white cloth, there were a fair number of families with kids. I had the lasagna and asked for a little extra marinara sauce. You can see from one of the pictures that's it's very meaty without any ricotta -- I liked it fine this way, but just be aware of you like ricotta. My wife had the lobster ravioli and it was excellent -- you could definitely taste the delicate rich flavor of the lobster. The crab crochette was not as great -- a bit mushy and not much crab flavor. Service was good and servers were friendly. So, overall, quite good!

My friend and I came to the District today and had lunch at Prego. Great location and getting there at a little before noon was very easy to get a table. We ordered the staple meatballs and spaghetti and the rigatoni. Both were excellent and good portions as well. Alan was a good waiter as well. It was a bit pricey but totally worth it. I highly recommend eating here if you enjoy Italian food.

    Short Rib Pappardelle

We came on Valentine's Day and got seated pretty quickly and on time for our reservations. The ambiance and vibes was fancy and a good place to have a date at. Our server was very informative and fast. I was a bit bummed that we couldn't order from the all day menu and I was already prepared on what I wanted to order but had to change it due to the preset menu. We had Short Rib Papardelle - the short rib was very tender but I felt like the type of pasta that they used was a bit thick and heavy. Prob the best tasting on out of all the dishes I tried. Lasagna - this one was okay I feel like there was something missing in it, it wasn't hitting the spot Polette - meatballs with marinara sauce and garlic bread. This one was ehh too it tasted bland tbh. Overall I was expecting a lot of the food to have a boast of flavors. But I was kind of disappointed with the taste of the food. Ambiance and service was great but I think they can add more flavor to their dishes

A traditional Italian restaurant in Irvine, now at the District has always delivered quality food and service. Ugo is the master chef behind the menu and for over 30 years kept a close watch over the kitchen and created a following customer list that always enjoy the very original Italian ambiance. My favorite dish is the Linguini di Mare and San Daniele pizza.

Food is ok, service is fantastic ambience is really nice we were in the mall and just want to try some pizza and lasagna

Wonderful restaurant, great service and great food. We had our holiday dinner here, and they provided us great service, and brought out the food in a timely manner! The restaurant is formal, but very relaxed. Great place to have a nice dinner, and some really delicious food.

Prego is still a great Italian spot! Came the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to meet some friends. We arrived shortly before the end of happy hour so we were able to get a drink at the bar and then move over to the dining area. The happy hour Moscow mule was a good start to the night. For an appetizer we ordered cheesy garlic bread for the table. It was fresh out of the oven. Then, for dinner I had the seafood di mare. I enjoyed the large shrimp, clams, mussels, and pieces of fish. A couple of us tried another cocktail, the refresher martini, which was recommended by our friendly waitress. It was a really nice refreshing cocktail to have while we continued chatting. I appreciated that our waitress didn't try to rush us out at the end of the night.

We clearly forgot to take pictures that's how good the food was. Sorry it's half devoured.

Are they any specials on Thursday ? Also do you accommodate 12 people party ( for a birthday)

Hi Janee. On Thursday we offer social hour from 3-6pm and Tequila Thursdays from 4-9pm. We can accommodate groups of 12. Please give us a call and we'd be happy to make that for you.

Is lunch and dinner the same menu, or is there a separate lunch/brunch menu(s) apart from the dinner menu?

    What is cigar Tuesday?

Cigar aficionados could have on Tuesdays only to go to the patio and enjoy cigars with a small tapas menu!

Follow up question: what form of ID is needed for hospitality night (ie I work at an ice cream shop so I don't have any type of ID)?

Hi Pooja, hospitality night is open to all customers. You will not need to show ID.

Do you still do industry night?

Yes, we do! We have Hospitality Night every Wednesday from 4pm-9pm.

The freshly made ziti was extra long, cooked to perfection; the simmered beef and onions, simply melted in your mouth!! As far as service, the Hostess did wonderful job finding us a table in the full house there. I had called too late to get a reservation, but she recommended to simply walk in and see what's what... we were seated within 10 minutes despite the line. She was an absolute professional pro and, while I unfortunately didn't get her name, our waiter, Israel, took over from there. He was so pleasant, excited but low-key... seemed so happy to be a part of the Team there and wonderfully attentive, timely as well as patient in answering our many questions. All in all, it was a true 5-Star dining experience in a wonderful atmosphere. We were blessed enough to get a table outside where it was much quieter. Noisy inside? Let's just say people were all having a really awesome time with many various celebrations being enjoyed. A TRULY SPECIAL PLACE for any kind of taste!!

We had mixed reviews about the pastas. Overall they were all very good and the portion size is fantastic and affordable. We agreed some of our plates like the Shrimp Scampi were perfect but others like the clam pasta and the pesto pasta need more flavor. The tiramisu is very good. It's light and not overly sweet. We enjoyed the tartness of the fruit. The macchiatos are a nice way to end the meal.

We were seated on the outdoor patio, which had the perfect ambience as the evening started to settle in. We started with the Fritto Misto, which was awesome. The calamari and shrimp had just the right amount of breading, and the arrabbiata sauce pairing was spot on. For dinner, the three of us decided to share a few dishes: the Branzino al Sale, Margherita pizza, and Spaghetti allo Scoglio. The Branzino al Sale had a great tableside flame presentation, and they deboned and filleted it for us, which was really impressive. We were super excited for it, but unfortunately it was way too salty for our taste. We mentioned it to our waiter, and he handled it really well by switching it out for the lamb chop special of the day. That ended up being the star of the night, honestly one of the best lamb chops we've had. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender and love the chimichurri sauce with it. The Margherita and Spaghetti allo Scoglio were both very good as well. To finish, we shared the Affogato, Panna Cotta, and Tiramisu, and all three desserts were amazing. Despite the issue with the branzino, the service was excellent, the patio ambience was great, and this is definitely a place we'd come back to.

Our server was, I believe, from Italy, which made the experience feel even more authentic. He was very friendly, and had that cheeky, no-nonsense charm that somehow made the service even more enjoyable. What I appreciated most about Oliver's Trattoria is their philosophy toward pasta. So many restaurants load pasta dishes up with proteins, vegetables, and a dozen other distractions. Here, the pasta is the star of the show. Everything is handmade, and the dishes are designed to let the pasta do the talking. Cacio e Pepe (9/10) - Phenomenal. It's surprisingly difficult to find a cacio e pepe around here, so I was glad to even see it on the menu. My only critique is that it was just a tad too salty and maybe had a little too much cheese, if such a thing is even possible. Truffle Beef Carpaccio (10/10) - Oh my days. This was the highlight of the meal. The truffle flavour came through beautifully and paired perfectly with the delicate slices of beef. Truffle Pasta (7/10) - The pasta itself was perfectly al dente. My only issue was that the truffle flavor felt a bit muted, especially considering the price point.. Side of Salmon (5/10) - A little dry and lacked the depth of flavor found in the rest of the meal.
