I realize how redundant my post is to some of the others, but oh my gosh, this place was fantastic! I had the Korean chicken fried steak with the kimchi collards and soy garlic mashed potatoes, and I would eat it again tonight for a late night snack. Not even kidding. The ambiance and the staff were both absolutely excellent. I was eating alone at the bar and in Baltimore for business, but the manager went above and beyond and made me feel like we were old friends. Oh, and she even sent me home with a dessert! I liked this place. Its pretty small and the staff is super attentive. I had: Rice and mushroom soup, delish. Spinach pie, it was average. My spinach was overcooked. The ricotta flatbread, it was above average the onion dominates all flavors. I picked the onions out. My husband and friend had: the steak Medium rare, loved it. The mushroom bolognese, loved it! Great neighborhood cafe nestled in the heart of Federal Hill! Husband and I enjoyed a lovely brunch at SoBo this Saturday. The restaurant has a warm and inviting neighborhood feel, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal with friends or family. Had a wonderful brunch at SoBo this morning. Me and a girlfriend were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess and were seated at a lovely table. This place has a great coziness while still feeling a bit classy and "special" if you will. Service was friendly and fast. No alcohol today but I will say the sangria popsicle was tempting for a steamy MD morning. The iced coffee was pretty standard but I appreciated that they gave us a nice tall glass and even brought over extra ice cubes in case we wanted it colder. We split the house cinnamon roll (slightly warm, not too sweet and deliciously tender!) and they brought us a complementary slice of banana bread (a little dry and not enough banana flavor for me, but hey it was free!) For my main meal I ordered the Shakshuka which I have always wanted to try. It was such a beautiful dish... perfectly balanced and not too heavy which was great for a hot day. I highly recommend. Basically it is poached eggs nestled in a a chunky tomato sauce topped with salty feta cheese. It is served with a side of fruit. roasted potatoes and toast. I ended up asking for a biscuit instead of toast because I wanted to try the famous biscuits, however I would recommend getting the toast because it is the perfect vehicle to sop up extra sauce. But if you are a biscuit lover you must try it! So flaky, buttery, tender... yum. I am already looking forward to eating my leftovers. Can't wait to go back to Sobo! I love that their brunch is a little bit different than your standard diner fare but not pretentious and overpriced. Great job! read more

We love this place & I'm so glad it's part of our neighborhood! We went here for Restaurant Week tonight & as always, everything was DeeeeeLish! I am obsessed with their Chilled Corn Soup - it has feta, kernels of corn, and popcorn in it!! SO good. We also shared the mac&cheese as a starter b/c I couldn't *not* get it. I got the Hangar Steak, and hubs got the Korean Chicken Fried Steak - both were amazing. They didn't look huge, but it really was a generous portion & I struggled to clean my plate (but I still did!) For dessert, I got the Strawberry Shortcake (yum!) and hubs got the Deviled Food Cake - really good, but not quite as outstanding as the rest of our selections. SoBo Cafe is by far my favorite place to eat for any meal in Federal Hill. It's somewhat tucked away on the corner of W Cross St, but this makes parking closer to the restaurant a little easier. Everything about this place is amazing. Even though the actual restaurant is pretty small, they do a great job accommodating large groups. The specials are always written on the giant chalk board behind the bar, and they have great deals for happy hour! I've come here several times for weekend brunch - which is probably what I look forward to the most every week. SoBo always offers sweet, freshly baked seasonal breads, complimentary of the chef. Most recently, it was pumpkin bread to kick off the fall. But if you're looking for an additional sweet treat, the warm, melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls are the way to go. The mimosas are great and they offer an orange, grape and peach nectar variety. They're the perfect way to start your buzz before enjoying a delicious meal. The menu here is very vegetarian/vegan/GF friendly. My go-to entree is the Shakshuka, which is two poached eggs or tofu over chunky tomato sauce, topped with feta. It comes with toast, which you can substitute with a fluffy, buttermilk house made biscuit if that's what you're feeling. SoBo also offers the classic brunch items with eggs, sausage, and home fries galore. I tried a bite of my friend's chocolate chip pancakes with peanut butter whipped cream (aggressive but delicious nonetheless). What I love about the food here is that it isn't overly greasy or heavy. It's very tasty and filling but won't leave you unable to move for the rest of the day! I would highly recommend this place. Very tasty brunch place! Came here in a group of 7 on a Sunday. Place was pretty small but it wasn't terrible busy. The pitcher of passion fruit mimosa was a nice and refreshing beginning followed by the house made cinnamon roll as an appetizer. That was delicious and a must try! Brunch was standard in that it's difficult to go wrong. The salmon omelette came with cooked salmon and the eggs Benedict is always a surefire choice. Service was excellent in general but my one complaint is that our table, a lot of food was taken away before we were finished with out meal. Came here for dinner on my first trip to Baltimore. The place is extremely cozy and has a great ambiance with a super helpful staff. We ordered and split the Chicken Pot pie and Macaroni & cheese. The mac n cheese was fantastic, rich with gooey cheese; while, the chicken pot pie was unbelievably delicious, a crispy/ buttery crust with savory well seasoned creamy chicken and veggies underneath. Stopped by here for dinner with two out-of-town guests. I was pleased with the service and ambiance as well as most of the menu! I got a appetizer for the table to start. It was supposed to be a smoked salmon dip with veggies/toasted bread. I have to say I wasn't really impressed with this appetizer. The dip had a texture like canned tuna and I couldn't really taste the smoked salmon. We pretty much just left most of it alone as our entrees came out soon after. My friends got kimchi fried chicken and I opted for the burger (medium rare). I tasted the chicken and it was quite good! The kimchi was more like an interpretation of kimchi (won't look like what you're used to at Korean restaurants, but still good!) and the real kick came from the sauce. My burger was made perfectly! It came with fingerling potatoes which were tasty as well. The service was fantastic! The waitress really made us felt welcomed. Water refills came by super fast and without us even having to say anything. The decor was really nice - my friends actually asked me if MICA was nearby given all the art pieces for sale on the wall :P Though I probably won't order the appetizer again, I will definitely be back here! read more

First time here and I really enjoyed myself. $20 restaurant week special was a great way to try a few things. The grape leaves with lamb were really tasty, albeit a little small. The burger was very good but left a lot of grease on the plate. We also really enjoyed the lemon pie desert as well. Very lemony and not overly sweet. Went for restaurant week Aug 10, 2014. The $20 price for this three course meal was well worth it! Spinach Pie and Mac and Cheese were ok, but nothing to write home about. Dry Rubbed Bavette Steak was a bit tough, but nice flavor with the bacon butter. The creamed spinach and fingerling potatoes were a nice accompaniment. Chicken Pot Pie was chock full of veggies and generous pieces of chicken and tasted great, but the base was a little runny for our taste. Dessert was EXCELLENT! LEMON PIE! Decadent lemon creme with a sharp tang that sent shivers down the spine that was mellowed by a slight sweetness. That crust (which we believe was graham cracker, sorry if not!) was the perfect choice for slathering on all that lemony goodness! STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE...WOW! That sugared biscuit made me want to slap my grandma! Crispy on top and light layers on the inside. A fork full of the biscuit, strawberry, whipped cream and rhubarb sauce together was a sin to say the least. Service was a bit slow for us, especially given the fact that we arrived just as they opened and were the first to be seated. Seating was a bit tight, especially when it began to get crowded as we were finishing our meal. There is a bar area that ran the length of a wall where you could eat your meal as well. They also have a few tables outside if you like folks walking past you on the sidewalk as you eat. Fun moment when we walked in and were greeted by the host. My date asked, "Do you have pops?" ... silence "Pops?" I jumped in with "popsicles." Add us to the list of those who stopped in solely based on the yelp picture of sangria popsicles. They change the flavor up based on what's fresh and seasonal, and when we stopped by last summer they featured strawberry mojito. It comes dipped in a small glass with champagne. Great mixture. Soak it up before each bite, and you will have a flavor experience. We also tried the house red sangria. It was good. It is fruity, but it does not taste like generic fruit juice at all. The place has cute decor, with welcoming bright colors all over the walls. If we had not just gotten lunch somewhere else down the street, I would love to get brunch here. read more

SoBo is one of my new favorite restaurants and definitely tops my list of restaurants in the Baltimore area. I was able to find street parking up the block, which was great. As soon as we walked in we were seated at a table by the window that provided plenty of light for our meal. SoBo is a cute little restaurant that features indoor, bar, and outdoor seating. Nice decor and friendly staff as well! I was having dinner with a friend, so we started with white sangria, a mojito, and the hummus plate appetizer. The drinks were smooth and tasty and the hummus plate was full of yummy options to try with the rosemary hummus. What a great choice for an appetizer! For the main course I went with the SoBo burger, topped with bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese, and served with awesome potatoes and a salad. My friend chose the Peruvian chicken with quinoa salad and plantains. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted even better. We ordered sangria pops for dessert, which the restaurant comped due to the Popsicles not having set properly. How thoughtful! They were still really yummy and we would definitely get them again. All in all, it was a great meal and a great pick. I'm looking forward to my next trip down to Baltimore so I can visit SoBo again! read more

Came by for brunch and unfortunately was underwhelmed. The spot is small like most in the area but we got seated right away. We could eat off the people next to us plate, that how close we were. Most of the other tables where spread out but this two seater should have really been for 4. Now to the food....it was meh! I got the huevos rancheros and it was not bad but was not hot at all, pancakes were okay...again not hot, butter did not even melt. They don't sell any hand crafted coffee drinks just coffee and no non dairy creamer (no soy, almond etc...). My friend got the eggs Benedict and only ate about half, she said it wasn't very good.The service was great. Saw some other dishes that looked interesting so may try agin when I'm back in the area but won't be making a special trip! read more

What a cute bistro! Finally stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. Menu was plentiful - meat items, veggie items, between bread or without it completely. Loved the ginger carrot soup (topped with kale, loaded with ginger root, & packing a punch) and my apple and gruyere flatbread topped with arugula and pecans and my friend enjoyed her BLT on a biscuit. I would have finished the whole thing and another one if I wasn't trying so hard to be more health conscious! We had the steak with creamed spinach and fingerling potatoes. Asked for medium rare but was cooked to medium - and everyone else who asked for rare was cooked to medium rare (which I am told is the trick for most restaurants in general, just to order it one temp. less than what you actually want). I came to SoBo for the first time yesterday night, and I had such a wonderful experience I had to come to Yelp to rave about it! I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday- she is vegetarian, so one of the main reasons we selected this restaurant was because of the wide range of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I ordered the SoBo burger, which was amazing! The burger was so fresh and savory, and the side salad was great too. My friend ordered the Israeli Couscous Bowl, which was part of SoBo's "Vegan Restaurant Week" menu. I tried a bit and it was so delicious as well- amazingly, it was quite fresh and flavorful. Besides the food, the restaurant had a wonderful ambience to it. My friend said the atmosphere reminded her of a cozy French cafe. Overall, I would highly recommend SoBo Cafe to anyone in the Federal Hill area. I came and had such a wonderful experience! read more

Wow! First time here and it's gonna be one of my first stops back whenever I come to Baltimore! Located on Cross Street in Federal hill. On the smaller side. Very nice ambiance. Attentive staff. Outdoor seating available. Our server/hostess was very helpful and quick. The busboy was very attentive as well. Our water never got to empty before he'd fill it. Came with two kids and their kids menu was simple and to the point. I ordered the Sangria (AMAZING) and the Korean Chicken Fried Steak. I rarely eat steak but I'm glad I got it tonight. It was to die for! So flavorful. The gravy needs to be bottled and sold. Hubs got the SoBo burger and it looked yummy. He was very pleased and he can be very hard to impress when ur comes to burgers. The kids got Mac and Cheese with Roasted Chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked and moist. Definitely pleased and will be back for sure. read more

The waiter was extremely nice and gave her a top off on her wine. Also, I got the wine flight and asked for super sweet wine and only one of the three were sweet. Along the way learned that they eat it with chili in Kansas. Just got home from an amazing brunch at SoBo Cafe! Definitely a neighborhood gem in Federal Hill. Their entire menu looks great, so it was difficult to decide what we wanted to order. I'm vegetarian, and they have several options. We started with the Cinnamon Bun, which had the perfect amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. The complimentary pumpkin bread was also nice. I ordered the Roasted Tomato Biscuit, which was delicious! The pesto and tomatoes complimented the eggs really well, and they were able to make mine with just egg whites. The home fries were also perfect. My boyfriend ordered the SoBo Biscuit Benedict, which he enjoyed. Portions are large, so come hungry! Our waiter was wonderful and incredibly attentive the entire time. The ambiance is very cheery and clean. Definitely a nice placed to enjoy a relaxing brunch with family and friends. We came around 11am, and it was very easy to find street parking close-by. This is one of our new favorite brunch places in Baltimore! read more

I came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday morning for brunch. First off, I really like the atmosphere of the place; it's slightly upscale and nicer compared to the rest of Federal Hill. Still, the prices are pretty reasonable and the wait staff are very welcoming and attentive. For the starter, they brought out some sweet bread that seemed to be zucchini bread/pound cake. It was still warm and tasted delicious! I ordered a house cinnamon bun to share and a cooked chicken salad sandwich with chips. The cinnamon bun was delicious, but I don't think there was anything particularly special about it. I really enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich - I just wish the sandwich was slightly bigger instead of getting chips. This was a great place, and I'll probably come back again. Great brunch in B'more!! Our party of 6 are here on a recent Saturday. We ordered the eggs benny on biscuits with ham, chicken pot pie, and smoked salmon on biscuit, as well as a couple cinnamon buns. The potatoes that accompanied our meals were Outstanding, crispy browned outside, soft inside, just the way I like them. Complementary blueberry lemon bread was the perfect amuse bouche to quell our hangry pangs while we waited. The icing on the cake (or in this case cinnamon buns) was that the restaurant gave us said cinnamon buns on the house. I really like this place! They are great with allergies so I come here when my family with severe food allergies visit. I recently came for restaurant week and it was a great meal! I really like that they label what is gluten free on the menu so it's very clear what I can eat. For my first course I got stuffed grape leaves. I didn't really know what to expect but these were sooo good. The were stuffed with meat and had a cheesiesh sauce. I got steak for my second course which was really good. I wished that more of the entrees could have been made gluten free. I usually love eating the fish here and the fish and scallops entrees weren't listed as gluten free. The potatoes were ok. I had a pear for dessert which was the gluten free option and I didn't really love it at all. read more

After a really horrible experience not being seated at Bluegrass (avoid them at all costs), we wandered down the street and stumbled into this place after wondering if it was 'just a cafe' or maybe had some breakfast food. I don't know how we got so lucky, but the friendly hostess seated us immediately and our waitstaff and food runners were incredibly attentive. The food was great and the interior surprisingly nice.
