It's been a while since I've brunched, so I was really excited when our friend, Omer A., brought us here during our brief day trip to Baltimore. By the time we found parking and walked over to the restaurant, I was starving. Going in, I knew exactly what I wanted to order: the cream chipped beef. Two biscuits topped with beef gravy, two eggs, and some fruit (gotta keep it healthy somehow, right?). We also ordered one of their cinnamon rolls for the table to share as well. The cinnamon roll came out first and it was delicious - warm, fluffy, and too good for this world (hehe). I also appreciated the fact that it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. There's nothing worse than biting into a nauseatingly saccharine cinnamon roll...or maybe that's just me. Our food came out promptly afterwards, and I really enjoyed my dish. The gravy was rich and the biscuit were flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. The portion sizes are very generous here, and I could only finish about 3/4 of what I ordered. This meal held me through hours of walking, and I didn't even feel any pangs of hunger until late that evening. Smoked salmon spread: decent but wouldn't get again. Bread was hard and the vegetables plus salmon were just a bit too vinegary. Paired the spread with the softer complementary bread instead. We had high hopes for this little restaurant in Federal Hill. Unfortunately, our food took over 45 minutes to arrive: scrambled eggs, plain pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes and a biscuit and egg combo. Yes, it was busy for a Sunday around 1:30, but 45 minutes is a long time to wait. On the bright side, our server was attentive. The teens loved the pancakes, DH enjoyed his biscuit and eggs. My veggie scrambled eggs were runny. The home fries were ok. The fruit cup seemed like the kind that comes out of a can because everything tasted like grapefruit. Checked out this spot for brunch and was very impressed from start to finish. It's a fairly intimate enviornment that has a home comfort sort of feel to it. The staff is exceptionally welcoming, warm, inviting, and friendly. Almost feels as though you've been invited over a friends home for brunch. There's art work throughout the restaurant, they have a full bar, and a menu that carries everything from pancakes from scratch, chicken pot pie, biscuits from scratch, and an ecletic mix of sandwiches. I opted for the cinnamon roll to start which was out of bounds delcious. There was hint of lemon or lime in the cream cheese frosting which was an added punch of flavor. Then I finished with the roasted tomato biscuit with home fries. The sandwich included house made buttermilk biscuit, eggs, fontina cheese, and arugula pesto. Good God all mighty was that sandwich good! Defintely a fan of restaurants that attempt to set themselves apart from other restaurants and take the time to make food from scratch. SoBo Cafe is located in Federal Hill which is apparently where all the brunch places are located in Baltimore. My friend had recommended this place so we decided to give it a shot for late brunch. We made a reservation for three on OpenTable for 1:30 on a Saturday. Upon getting there, I realized a reservation was not required. The brunch crowd had died down since there was only 3 other parties present. My friend did note that this place is usually very crowded so I would recommend making a reservation if you're going to be stopping by during peak brunch hours. As far as food goes, the table split an order of the house made cinnamon roll. The girlfriend and I each got the Cream Chipped Beef and my friend opted for the chocolate chip pancakes. The cinnamon roll was very good, definitely better than Cinnabon in my opinion and less sweet. The cinnamon roll can definitely be split between 2-3 people. The Cream Chipped Beef comes with two huge homemade biscuit with a generous drizzle of the cream sauce. It also comes with a small bowl of fruit and two eggs. I am typically not a huge fan of cream sauce but SoBo had the perfect balance of cream and the sauce wasn't too salty. Overall, I enjoyed my brunch experience here. Very nice restaurant for brunch or dinner in Federal Hill. A great change from the typical bar food in the area. Somewhat small inside, but features white tablecloths and dimmed lighting for a more intimate atmosphere. Dinner menu can be a little pricey, so I chose from the smaller plates and ordered French onion soup and the macaroni and cheese. The soup was to die for and had a nice presentation. Definitely the best French onion soup in the area. The Mac and cheese was okay, but I was hoping it would have been more creamy. My friend ordered one of their salads and received a whole chicken breast on top. Looked delicious! A friend loves this place so of course we had to try it. Overall was a welcoming place seems like quite a few regulars that are well known by the staff. However, the mac and cheese has tomatoes in it and of course the hubby hates them and requested they were not included. The person that delivered the food stated that they were already mixed on and they tried to get them out but since the were the grape tomatoes he could easily pick them out. Well small tomatoes start to breakup when hot....and there were way more than a "couple" on there. Half a cup of tomatoes later, our server that took the order noticed the large pile of tomatoes and mentored that they weren't supposed to be there....appeared perplexed of the story we were given which makes sense since most would know that they would be falling apart after being on a hot cheese mix. I shared the Kim chi chicken over mashed potatoes. While it was ok it wasn't average top wow like I had been led to believe. Hands down, the best food I had during my 5 day trip in Baltimore. I went and sat at the bar and ordered the egg sandwich with the cherry tomatoes, along with the cinnamon roll. Honestly, it was one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The pesto was amazing and the tomatoes were perfectly cooked. The homemade biscuit has my mouth watering again as I write this. The cinnamon roll was equally delicious. I ordered it to go as I wanted a dessert for later and it didn't disappoint. Again, it was in my top 5 cinnamon rolls I've ever had (and I love cinnamon rolls). The service was great, the vibe is perfect for brunch, and they offer local brews from Baltimore. Really wish this place was closer to Indianapolis so I could frequent it more often, but I guess it'll be a restaurant I'm always craving. This is a really delicious and solid spot. After wanting to come here for awhile, and going out to eat with a vegan friend, he said this is one of the only places in the city with a vegan entree. A group of 5 of us came here for brunch and really enjoyed ourselves. They have a really nice menu starting from the homemade cinnamon roll to house smoked salad, there really is something for everybody here. I ordered the salmon salad with a ranch dressing and that smoked salmon was delicious. I would come here to get that again in a heartbeat. My other friends got the SoBo biscuit, the roasted tomato biscuit sandwich and the vegan option shakhuka. Everyone loved their meal but other than mine, they felt their meals were very heavy. Each came with some delicious deep fried potatoes so those along with a biscuit sandwich or Benedict was too much for them. I can't attest for that, mine was delicious. I thought the general vibe of the place was very cute and homey. The host was attending different patron when we walked in but was very prompt in noticing us and we were seated immediately, which was nice since we were expecting to have to wait longer and hadn't made a reservation. The place was busy but it layout was such it didn't feel like you were packed in. We were seated at the high table near the front door. It wasn't ideal since it gets a little cold but luckily it wasn't too bad. After ordering, we were given some lemon cake which resembled a pound cake but was not as dense. While I appreciated something to nibble on while waiting for the main dish to arrive, I personally was not a fan of the cake as the lemon flavor was too sweet (kind of like a candy lemon flavor) without much of the tanginess that I look for in lemon flavored baked goods. I got the house smoked salmon omelet with rustic bread while my friends got the shakshuka and the chicken pot pie. We enjoyed their food and the portions were more than generous but all of us agreed it was a bit on the heavy side. The shakshuka reminded us of a tomato soup. The crust of the pot pie was nice and flaky and there were generous amounts of chicken. The omelet was just as described and I enjoyed the initial few bites but it got pretty heavy so I ended up taking 1/2 of my plate home. The home fries were also yummy but I wish I could have swapped them out for some salad instead because the whole dish was pretty heavy. I also found myself continuously reaching for the hot sauce to cut through the heaviness and to make the flavors of the dish a little more interesting to eat. Other than the heaviness, the flavors themselves were fine except for the raspberry jam that came with my dish. While I understand it could be eaten with the bread, it didn't really suit any of the other things on my plate so I thought it was a little unnecessary. So in summary, I thought they did a great job of the interior and the waiter was very amicable but because flavors of the food is most important to me, I'm going to say this place was a 3/5 stars: average brunch place. Five stars doesn't do this place justice! SoBo doesn't look like much from the outside and it's off the beaten path in Fed Hill, but it was one of the best meals I've had in Baltimore. My boyfriend and I came for a date night and it was the perfect spot. It was a bright, intimate space that was beautifully decorated. There's also a few high-top tables outside. We started off with the mussels with shallots in a garlic, white wine sauce. It was a huge portion for just the two of us, so I'd recommend this appetizer if you have a party of 4 or more. We still ate every bite since it was so tasty! For my entree I had the scallops with chorizo, kale, white bean ragout in a spicy clam sauce. This dish was amazing! The scallops were perfectly cooked and each bite was delicious. The sweetness of the scallops went well with the salty chorizo and kale. And for dessert I ordered the strawberry mojito popsicle. The popsicle was served in a glass of champagne. The popsicle was a little too icy for my taste, so while it looked really pretty, it wasn't really worth ordering. But, it was only $5, so oh well. I also had some of my boyfriend's blueberry bread pudding. And yes, by "some" I mean what he would share with me. This bread pudding was HEAVENLY. Seriously, one of the best desserts I've ever had. I am a fiend for bread pudding and SoBo added a unique twist to it by adding blueberries to it. It was a well-balanced dessert and went perfectly with the ice-cream. I should have known she wasn't going to be attentive. I am very disappointed in the service. My friend and I came to SoBo for the excellent service review. The service was horrendous. The waitress in a black dress barely came over. My friend and I had to stand up in order for her to come over and swipe the credit card. If I come back, I hope that waitress is not there. The decor is inviting and comfortable, the servers were friendly and knowledgeable, and as an added bonus, many items were also prepared in-house, like their breads and desserts! Seemed like a winner! Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak that we had was quite dry and sinewy. It also wasn't very crispy, which may be from being sandwiched between the kimchi collard greens and the generous serving of mashed potatoes (which were a bit dry and grainy). We also had a smoked salmon spread that was just alright (not worth the $9) -- though the crostinis were quite delectable. The salad is about what you would expect. The Bavette steak was flavorful and cooked to medium rare as recommended, but it was disappointing to see the crispy baked fingerling potatoes be smothered by the cream spinach. The carb-to-protein ratio also seemed too much. Overall, the meal felt very heavy. Based on this meal, it wasn't worth the travel across town, though my experience may have been a fluke given the high reviews here. read more

Unfortunately when I asked the waiter if they had that Popsicle they replied no :(... but! they had another flavor. Unfortunately it was not as photogenic looking, but was supposed to taste superior to the sangria popsicle. They use seasonal items to make their popsicles so it changes every so and so. Apparently the next flavor is supposed to be made with blueberries or something. This seasons flavor was Strawberry Mojito and it tasted godlike. It was dipped in in champagne with a sprig of mint leave. The champagne added a bubblyness and sweetness to a perfect mint strawberry mixture. The presentation and taste was absolutely perfect. Sobo Cafe has some great happy hour deals. $5 glasses of wine, sangria, and draft beers, plus a selection of apps for $4-5, only available at the bar or outside. We got here around 5:30 on a Friday and had no issue getting two seats at the bar, but by 6:15 people had to be seated outside. We ordered a few items off the happy hour menu: PEI mussels, hummus, and Mac-n-cheese. Their mussel flavors change occasionally. This time, it was a Thai based broth with lemongrass, coconut milk, and curry. It wasn't my favorite but I've really enjoyed their mussels in the past with wine based broth. The hummus was a nice light snack compared to the rest of the meal. The Mac-n-cheese was by far my favorite item of the night! It was rich with the right proportion of cheese to pasta, and nicely seasoned. Several items on the main menu caught our eye but ultimately we ordered the burger. The bartender asked if we wanted the burger split in half (yes please). They not only split it for us but even brought it out on two plates with two sets of sides. I think we actually got double the amount of sides. This was a really nice touch. The salad was fresh and perfectly dressed. The roasted potatoes didn't hit the mark for me - the one miss of the night. The burger itself was just perfect! The flavors from the bacon, cheese, and mayo came together with each bite. I liked that they used roasted grape tomatoes in the burger instead of the usual tomato slices. Our bartender mentioned that the bun was made in house, and the meat came from a local farm. Eggs are one of my favorite breakfast foods. Especially when they're prepared a little differently than just two eggs over easy or scrambled with some toast. On this particular morning, I was craving shakshuka even though I've never had it before. Pictures of it looked awesome and I knew it was right up my alley. After a quick search on Foursquare, I found that SoBo Cafe in Fed Hill has it. This was perfect because not only is SoBo Cafe close to my apartment, I've been meaning to try it there and I've heard great reviews about the place. After getting my roommate on board with the brunch plan we headed over to SoBo Cafe. We arrived at 2:30 on a Sunday so the place was practically empty, usually I take this as a huge red flag but it turns out that they close at 3pm on Sundays (they reopen at 5pm) so it was understandable why no one was there. Unfortunately, because we arrived so late, SoBo Cafe was already sold out of their Cinnamon Buns for the day, so we will have to return to try those. I knew that I wanted shakshuka so I didn't even bother looking over the menu to change my mind. The dish was two eggs poached with a chunky tomato sauce, feta, served with toast, home fries & fruit. The dish was great, I used the toast to scoop any remaining egg yolk and tomato sauce. If you're craving eggs, this dish is definitely worth a try. My roommate ordered the Mac-n-Cheese. It came with chopped tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and a crumb top. Oh my this dish was good. It was also fairly large with tons of melty, cheesy goodness everywhere. I've been to a restaurant that specializes in Mac-n-Cheese, that place does not compare to the incredible dish placed before us. Saying it was delicious is an understatement. I will go back and order this again very soon. A friend and I were looking for a low-key Friday evening and it was Baltimore Restaurant week so we decided to make a reservation for SoBo Cafe in Fed Hill. SoBo Cafe has plenty of American dishes with a Mediterranean twist. Upon looking over the menu we remembered how amazing the food was and were thrilled we could try a little bit of everything because it was Restaurant Week. My friend decided to start with the Mac-n-Cheese because that's what she ordered last time we were at SoBo Cafe and she loved it. Let me reiterate, this was the best Mac-n-Cheese either of us have ever had. She basically licked the plate clean. For my appetizer, I ordered the Spinach Pie. It was crispy phyllo stuffed with spinach and feta cheese. My Grandmother is Greek, I grew up with her making Spinach Pie semi-regularly, this rendition was delicious and tasted just as good as my Grandmothers (good thing she doesn't have an internet connection or I'd get stabbed.) The pastry chef at SoBo Cafe has magical skills (but more about that later) because that phyllo was buttery, flaky and perfect. For our main courses, my friend and I each decided to order the Dry Rubbed Bavette Steak. It came with bacon onion butter, creamed spinach and roasted fingerling potatoes. The steak was cooked medium-rare, just how I like it and packed with flavor. Personally, I love creamed spinach with steak and the one here was perfectly creamy. For dessert, I saw that SoBo Cafe advertised they offer Sangria Ice Pops. The ice pop had strawberries, pineapple and a little bit of a fruity wine flavor. It was delicious, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to get drunk. In addition to my ice pop, we each got a dessert with our meal. My friend can be a little on the picky side and opted for the Brownie Sundae for her dessert which was not on the restaurant week menu. It was served with a warm brownie, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, house made caramel AND house made marshmallow fluff. My friend was beyond full, but still made every effort to finish this delicious dessert. For my dessert, I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake because I saw a man at another table eat it and it looked wonderful. It was a sweet biscuit with rhubarb sauce, basil and whipped cream. This was off the charts amazing. Whatever the pastry chef did to that biscuit to make it flavorful and buttery, it was pure magic. In short, our meal at SoBo Cafe was wonderful and I really can't say enough things about the meal as a whole or anything wonderful that the pastry chef creates. Brunch is my happy place, so when visiting Baltimore for a conference, I knew brunch had to be a priority. After perusing Yelp for recommendations, my cousin and I met for brunch at SoBo Cafe and were not disappointed. We called ahead to put our name on the list and were told it would be 45 minutes, but happily we received a text only 20 minutes later announcing our table was ready. Once we were seated, blueberry breakfast bread magically appeared on a delicate square plate so we could munch while we ogled the menu. We shared a house made cinnamon roll (soft, sweet, perfect), mac-n-cheese (rightly recommended by our server), and shakshuka (a fabulous middle eastern dish consisting of poached eggs over tomato sauce with feta, accompanied by sunflower toast, home fries, and fresh fruit). We headed to this place tonight with high expectations. Re-energized by the warm weather, we were excited to sit outside and enjoy a drink and some yummy food. With it being Wednesday Wing night, we instantly settled on the maple sriracha wings and each picked a drink off their menu. Wow what a great find! A friend and I came here by chance and we are so happy we did. From the happy hour menu we tried the grape leaves, mussels and grilled onion sandwich. All were delicious with unique flavors that had us thinking about ordering more. For drinks we did wine which they have a large selection of. For us we lucked out and came in on a night they had live music. The live music was just loud enough but not too much. Staff was friendly and attentive, plus prices were reasonable. Selected on the strength of all these positive Yelp reviews but came away disappointed. It was just okay. The dining room is cosy. Our server was okay, could have been friendlier, more upbeat. We got the ham and cheese biscuit sandwich with home fries and a bacon flatbread. My special request was for the fries to be crispy. The sandwich had a nice bite from the strong horseradishy-Dijon mustard, the squared biscuit was yummy. The home fries were definitely brown and some were crispy, some on the edge of burnt, but kinda warmed-over seeming. The flatbread was generous with the bacon. Ok. That's about it. I had an awesome experience at SoBo Cafe. I've bookmarked this place for a while, but never had a chance to go until one of my friends randomly decided to call this place up, and secured a reservation for a large group of 10 for 30 minutes later. That's pretty clutch if you ask me. We arrived and everything was set up. I feel bad because we told the staff that we now had an extra person and that we might have more people coming as well. They were happy to accommodate this, but our additional friends decided to back out in the end and the staff had to readjust. Service was the highlight of my time at SoBo Cafe. It was impeccable. Our servers were extremely attentive, constantly checking in on us and refilling our drinks, and our orders were taken relatively quickly and served equally as quick. I loved the brunch menu. It was sizable, including starters, salads, soups, entrees, and sandwiches. In additon, SoBo Cafe makes sure that each item on the menu is prepared extremely well. I had the privilege to try the big breakfast and the chicken pot pie. Both exceeded expectations. It was cool to see that fruit was included in each entree. 5 stars for food 3 stars for service The food was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. I was craving something warm and cozy - got chicken pot pie and OMG. It was the best chicken pot pie I've ever had. And I had a lot. It's my fav winter dish. It was not too salty; beautiful presentation and great dough on top! My friend had a sobo burger and it looked GOOD. She was very surprised it was HUGE. It was very juicy and lots of flavor too. My other friend had a pumpkin salad and she said it was super tasty! The waitress seemed too busy doing something else- she didn't even check on us once. Was waiting for too long (30 mins) for a check and wrapping leftovers up. It's an awesome place and I LOVED the atmosphere. Def coming back! read more

This was my first time going to Baltimore and a friend and I stopped in to get brunch before heading back to NC. Service was great, we were seated very quickly and the waitress was very attentive and accomodating. I ordered the chicken pot pie and kids mac and cheese and my friend had the full mac and cheese, both with no tomatoes. Everything came out perfect. The pot pie is a generous portion. Normally, I'm a stickler for homemade, baked macaroni and cheese, not just cheese sauce with noodles passsed off as homemade, but this was a pleasant surprise. Definitely a good experience. The ambiance is nice and cozy. It was a bit noisy, but it was prime brunch hour, and the dining area is small, so I didn't expect peace and quiet. All in all, thumbs up. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch, made a reservation on open table - awesome no wait. Parking was on the street, easy to find right across the street. Restaurant itself is nice, clean, lots of natural sunlight, helpful staff, and they have outdoor seating. They brought out 2 slices of yummy blueberry bread (kind of like a blueberry muffin but sliced) - was so good I could've eaten the whole loaf! Menu had lots of good options. We ordered the shakshuka and three egg breakfast with turkey bacon on the side. Both dishes dishes were generous portions, home fries were soft inside and crispy on the outside - yum! The shakshuka had some delicious flavor (I got the eggs poached hard), not too spicy, and even came with small side of fruit. 3 egg breakfast with a side of turkey bacon was also delicious, not too greasy, and came with some kind of preserves/jam that was also very tasty. Came with a slice of toast which was a little bit too crunchy but good for making an open face sandwich with the eggs and bacon, or eating with the jam. Would definitely return, the menu had lots of variety including soups, salads, and sandwiches which looked really good going to neighboring tables. read more

The dishes we tried were all great, this is a great weekend brunch place in bmore. The french toast was fantastic and eggs Benedict was really good. The setting is pretty classic and the staff are friendly. The place is pretty small so tables fill up quickly, I would recommend making a reservation beforehand, especially on the weekend. Definitely check it out! read more

Love this place! We went there with a group of friends for a Saturday morning brunch, at least two of us being vegetarian (which kinda was the reason we picked this spot). A terrace, modern internal decor in light tones and very friendly staff greeted us upon arrival. The owner found us a spot inside, by the window, so that we could enjoy the nice weather without being burned by the sun. We ordered some mimosas and wine sampler to start with; they both were excellent. As for food, it was really great too - the vegetable burger one of the vegetarians in our group ordered was absolutely amazing, but the huevos rancheros I got were pretty darn good too. All in all, this place is a very good spot, brought together by nice decor, friendly staff, great drinks and amazing food, especially for vegetarians read more
