The food is OK, not bad, not great. The ceiling is too low, so traps the noises, last time I came here we have to yell to each other. It was unbearable. The service was slow, the food was just ok a bit too salty. I will not come back simply for the noise factor. read more

This place reminds me of a restaurant the Ratpack or some mobster would hang out. No it's no Italian food but the atmosphere of the booths, dim lighting, black and white pictures completely surround the walls, it's totally classic. Now for the food. What throws most people off is that the menu is on one page of brown recycled paper. There is not much to the menu, meatloaf, roast beef, chicken steak, osso buco (mom's fav) mac & cheese, pulled pork & steak sandwiches, seasoned fries, coleslaw, and salads like, cobb, crab, tuna etc. My favs, I always get the cup or bowl of the steak chili sooo good and the price is perfect for lunch. I'll usually add the Smitty salad that has baby shrimp, veggies blue cheese crumbs tossed in vinaigrette. Their mixed drinks are really strong so you don't feel bad paying $12 for a martini that's totally going to get you buzzed. I do frequent this place mostly for lunch but definitely recommend for a date or family dinner. read more

Smitty's grill ... I really wanted to like this place a little more. It's got a cool vibe to it, an upscale kind of feeling. Too bad the food wasn't up to par. Crab cakes - Good ... but breaded and deep fried. Travesty, because the crab meat was tasty. Caesar salad - Tasty, yet standard. Filet mignon blue cheese burger - Talk about overload of blue cheese. I love blue cheese...been growing up eating it and even brushing my teeth with it (j/k). This was just OVERKILL. I couldn't taste the meat at all (which I ordered medium rare and it came medium well ...HUGE FAIL). Stay away from this burger. Meatloaf - It was good, but nothing spectacular. Need something to kick it up another level. Ribs - From the way my brother was devouring it, I assumed it was good. I managed to wrestle away one piece of rib from him so that I could try it. It was good...sauce was delish as well as the meat. If we're staying local, I'd still prefer Gus's bbq ribs over this though. New York strip - My gf ordered this medium and it came out well done. Another meat grilling failure. Someone needs to keep an eye on that griller. But the server was cool and brought her a free soup to keep her occupied. The manager also came out later to apologize and comp us a free dessert. When the steak finally came out AFTER all of us were finished eating, it was decent. Meat was juicy and cooked as requested. Still, could someone ask the griller to add salt to the poor steak? Isn't that grilling 101? Oh and if you have a choice, try not to get seated in the tiny back room. It could get REAL loud if you have noisy neighbors... louder than a dim sum restaurant. Total bill for 5 people = $190 before tip. I guess that's about right for all the food ordered...but ouch. For that price, I'd rather go to Houston's for a more complete meal. Good service, good environment...okay food = 3 stars. read more

In my opinion (and God knows I have one), this is the best restaurant in Pasadena. Having gone here for years, the staff is great, the food is great and it's nice to eat at a place that isn't a chain. Whenever they have Salmon I get it and their Prime Rib is great. Their cheese bread appetizer is decadent and the creamed corn is among the best I've had. Try the fries and onion straw combo -- fattening but delicious. read more

We have frequented so many restaurants on Lake and I wanted to try Smittys for awhile. We finally got a chance on a recent Saturday night. Made reservations and the table was ready. Valet in the back - don't know where else you would park. My one complaint was the lack of champagne or sparking wine but we got a bottle of one that was ok if a bit pricey. The server was new or maybe overwhelmed - she did not expect us to order cocktails or a bottle of wine or even asked if we wanted salad with the dinner. We had to ask for all. I guess she is not trained to the upsell yet. House salad terrific. I got the fish which was great and others at the table were happy with their choices. We had to ask to lower a light that was shining right on us. Why do restaurants insist on adding spotlights so that your head feels like it is on fire when the rest of the place has nice "mood" lighting? To his credit the manager noticed our complaining and helped the situation. I would definitely recommend - good ambiance, good food and the service was fine. read more

Went with a party of 10 to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. The service was excellent. We arrived and their were fresh flowers on the table and a card of congratulations from the restaurant. We were comped their cornbread and it was mouth watering. We also ordered the potato chips and they were quickly gone. I ordered the short ribs and many had the French dip. Both were excellent. We will definately return! read more

Had dinner here with my wife and kid, it was amazing. Started out with calamari fingers so fresh and light. I decided on a burger and my wife had a salad, we were very happy, the prior night we had dinner at a Italian restaurant that just opened up down the street and we felt totally ripped off. Keep it up Smittys can't wait to be back. read more

I found this spot to be overrated. The service & food were mediocre and overpriced. Our waiter was terrible but the manager came by several times to chat. I had a half rack of ribs, smashed potatos, and cole slaw, and honestly it didin't make any impression on me. I can think of a few other places at the same price point that have better food and service with the same type of atmosphere. read more

Tried it - food was good - didn't change my life or anything, but good, but the service was TERRIBLE - really really bad - and its not like we were spending a small amount of money - we had more than one bottle of wine, appetizers, etc - it was so bad - my husband was furious when we left - we have not been back since... read more

Honesty: Once found ants all over the chicken pot pie. Gross! So we told the waitress and she brought us another pie as if that was helpful!!! We were to disgusted from the first pie to even touch the other. Haven't been back since :[ read more

Excellent service, fantastic food and classy environment. Great comfort food; chicken potpie, mac & cheese and iron skillet cornbread. The Sand dabs are a must! Smitty's is a part of the Smith Brothers Restaurant Group so you know you will always get the best quality food just as you would if you visited their sister restaurant "Parkway Grill" or "The Arroyo Chop House". Save some room have a glass of port wine order dessert and enjoy! read more

The quality of the steak is quite good, although I am not a fan of steak. I didn't like the bread and the salad. It is very noisy which I didn't like either. Make sure not to park at the parking lot next to it. Doors close at 7 and the car can be retrieved the next day only if not a Sunday or Weekend. Yeah, it happened to my car, so I am warning you.... read more

I loved everything about this place. We came here to celebrate a family birthday, so there were 9 of us, and they easily accommodated our party. Moses was our server and he was so friendly and helpful with any menu changes. We also spoke with Tom the manager who came by our table a second time to make sure we were doing o.k and so kindly sent over some of the cornbread- which I will tell you now is a must to try and might be addictive. All the staff was attentive, and friendly and the food was terrific. I had a doggie bag, and everything else was eaten! I would highly recommend giving this place a try- we had a wonderful experience, and amazing food. Thanks Smitty's!!! We'll be back. read more

This place is for the "elite" of Pasadena. It is so noisy in the restaurant that it is hard to hear the people at your table and hear the waiter. I ordered sautéed spinach and chards with a bowl of chili. Everyone at my table ordered a salad or chili and it took forever for them to bring out food which should have already been pre prepared. The chili was good and so was the chicken Caesar salad. I did not appreciate the sautéed spinach and chards as much since there was not one chard in it. The spinach was still good, but I was disappointed because I felt like I was a victim of false advertising of chard. This place is ok and I am a little stumped by how packed and busy it always is. Maybe it is their homemade chips. Those were delicious. read more

I love this place. I am never disappointed with my dish. Their mash potatoes are so delicious and the restaurant itself is very cute. Everyone is very nice and attentive. We didn't have reservations when we went, so they made special accommodations for us and made us a table facing the kitchen, so we got a dinner and a show! read more

Went here for the first time last Friday! Made a reservation, but ended up arriving 45 mins early, and still ended up waiting for the reservation to be called (10 minutes after our designated time). A lot of people were packed in the bar, so I suppose it was pretty busy. Hostesses were nice, but didn't seem to put a lot of effort in getting people seated quickly, as they dilly dallied a lot (took 10 minutes to seat a couple after a few tables had already been cleared and reset). Our server wasn't that great, not friendly, and not very helpful regarding the menu. The food, however, was absolutely delicious! I ordered salmon arugula salad...the salmon was cooked perfectly and dressed in a light vinaigrette dressing. My boyfriend ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, he said it was the best he's ever tasted. I tasted a bite, and it was definitely unforgettable. We also ended up ordering the bread pudding and key lime pie for dessert! Couldn't finish it as we were so full, but the key lime pie was the perfect amount of tart and sweetness! The bread pudding was okay, if you' like apple crisp, you'll definitely like it as it had candied apples on top (not my fav). Giving this place 4 stars for the location, food, and ambiance. Hopefully the mediocre service was just a fluke and it will be better next time. read more

I must say the food was incredible. I had the corn bread for appetizers. I very much enjoyed my Ceasar salad. And the filet melted in my mouth. So if I rated just based on the food I would give it a five star. But Im rating my entire dinning experience. Sitting outside in the patio was very humid. The service was great up to the point were we paid our bill and the waiter was hovering around us to make sure he recieved his 20% tip. A tip is what you work for so let the customer rate your service by giving you a tip. A tip for good service should be applied but not to be required. Just left a bad impression. Waiter tip was over $300. read more

This is our place for every birthday in our family. Last night- it was my turn for birthday dinner. We have been going for years now. We always sit outside, it's always warm and has a lovely atmosphere. On the table were pretty orchids and a hand written birthday card. It's touches like that, that really make this place awesome. I love the cheese bread, however- they must have changed it in the recent-ish past. They use to be bigger slices... Now they are small and not as fulfilling. But with that being said, they are still delicious. Love the corn bread. These are always my favorite. My family loves the ribs and the steaks- they have never complained. I get the Mac and cheese without ham because I am a vegetarian. It's really good. But Smittys- it would be nice to have another vegetarian option. Online the menu states they have a veggie Panini- but when I asked our server he said that was incorrect. Something like that would make this a 5 star experience for me. As a vegetarian I want to go to restaurants like this for celebrations. It may seem silly to request a meat free meal at a steak or seafood place- but it would be helpful. We always enjoy MANY of the cocktails. Mojitos here are good. So is the Malbec wine. read more

Amazing service! I have been to Smitty's dozens of times. The food is always good, service is always great. Until tonight when things went a bit wrong, but let me explain. My wife asked to have her birthday dinner here. I made a reservation by phone and when we arrived and were seated there was a handwritten birthday card for her at the table. Nice touch. We ordered dinner, for me a rib eye prepared medium. When the food arrived my steak was clearly overcooked. Nowhere near medium, somewhere close to shoe leather or hockey puck. As I took the 3rd or 4th bite the manager arrived at the table and I explained that I was disappointed with my meal. He immediately offered to replace it but having an antsy 7 year old at the table this didn't seem like a good move. So I accepted that the steak was sub-par and accepted his apologies. He then returned with an offer to pay for our drinks, Very gracious! Then a candle lit dessert for my wife, another nice touch without having to remind anyone that it was a birthday dinner. After a few sleight of hand magic tricks for our son, the manager offered to take my entree off the bill. Amazing. Thomas the manager at Smitty's Grill is the real deal. This is the RIGHT way to treat customers. I am now a dedicated, loyal customer for a long, long time and will send everyone I know to eat at this restaurant. Kudos and I hope that other businesses will learn to respect their customers the same way as these guys do. read more

On of their managers Jessica is beyond amazing providing the best customer service and brings so much warmth to the room! We didn't have any issues with our service, and yet she was still walking around making sure everyone was doing ok and having a great time! She deserves a raise or a bonus! She will make sure you leave this place beyond satisfied. Love Love love Smitty's! read more

It's only getting 3 stars because their corn bread and Ceasar salad were delicious! Their chicken pot pie though gets zero stars, it looked good but tasted awful, they put some spice in it that made it taste out of the can versus homemade. It just tasted processed even though it looked fresh. Thank God for the salad and cornbread because the chicken pot pie was pretty awful. It was like a thin quesadilla tortilla and the crap you would find in a cheap can for the stuffing but it wasn't really stuffing it was just soup with the thin tortilla covering it. It wasn't really a pot pie if you ask me. Go to Moffet's in Arcadia and it takes a dump on Smitty's so called 'pot pie'. Fries and onion rings are thinly sliced and taste pretty good but once again that pot pie just made the experience go south. Tried multiple bites to try to like it but it just wasn't happening. Service was decent, I really like drinking my water from a wine glass, pretty classy. Great place I suppose but I can't say this enough, just don't order the pot pie! read more

Good food but the poor service always ruins it for me. I think it's because my husband and I look young; do others have this problem? They do a great job with beef (rare is rare here, thank goodness) and the cheese bread is a hidden gem but we don't go very often because the service sets my teeth on edge. Mixed up orders, forgotten drinks, and the plating of food is sometimes very sloppy. I know, sort of silly to get worked up about but it reflects a lack of care and attention. Too bad because I've never disliked what ends up in my mouth but I've walked out grumpy too many times. Request seating on the back patio if you want a less-hectic experience. Reservations are a good idea but we've had to wait for 30+ minutes a few times and the bar is nice but very, very crowded. read more

The filet mignon burger I ordered at Smitty's Grill was meh. There are many better burger options in the area--not to mention the prices here are pretty high. To be fair, there are a lot of other options on the menu which may be better, but I'll likely never find out. read more

Good food. Always fresh. Service is great. Mac and Cheese is my favorite. Their sourdough bread is super doughy and sour. Good salad options. Steaks are always cooked perfect. Short ribs are tender and well seasoned. However, 1 con, fish here is hit and miss. Sometimes the fish dishes are overcooked or not well paired with the rest of the sauces and compliments on the dish. Overall good restaurant for the Smith Brothers. I have also been to their other restaurants Parkway Grill and Arroyo Chop House. Smitty's is a lot more casual and laid backj than the others. read more

I always get great service here and I usually get the petite filet, which is awesome. If you get Judy's section, then you're very lucky indeed as she's worked there for like ever. This is a chop house, so your best bet is a steak, but I've had their fish and it's pretty good too. The burger is pretty great too. read more

Great place for a delicious dinner and excellent wine. Service is attentive and personable without being intrusive. They really fill up, so reservations are highly recommended. I'm a vegetarian, so there aren't as many options as I'd like, although the sides are delicious - especially the creamed spinach. I got the roasted vegi panini this last time and it was excellent. read more

I've been there a bunch o times in the past. It's a nice place. I love the bar. I haven't been there for a while. I've read wonderful reviews for their meatloaf, so I returned this eve. The Meatloaf is really all that. Delish. I don't go there often but I may have to change that plan. read more

I check in a lot of places and rarely write a review. I'm making an exception this time. This place is AMAZING! First time here but familiar with the Smith Bros other restaurants (Pkwy & Arroyo Chop House). Picked this place for my wifes bday dinner. There was 8 of us and I figured we'd be loud, and we were. Service was beyond great, Elena went above and beyond for our table. Food, amazing, started with corn bread, calamari and shrimp cocktails, then she brought out some mussels, which we couldn't get enough of. Our entrees didn't disappoint. Great evening, thank you Smitty's for putting up with us but most importantly for a memorable evening. We'll be back soon! read more

Another amazing dinner at our favorite place! Early birthday celebration, nowhere but Smitty's. The reason we come here before anywhere else is for more than the great food and atmosphere, it's for the phenomenal service we consistently receive from Judy! This is a sensational restaurant. I most frequently get the pot roast with root vegetables, and always have enough left overs for lunch. I used to live right across the street. I used to put my clothes in the washing machine, run across the street to order at the bar and watch a game on TV, run back home to put the clothes in the dryer, and run back to finish my meal. Weekdays at the bar is an eclectic laid-back business crowd, but don't even think about sitting there to watch the Lakers on Friday or Saturday night. The Chicken Pot pie is HUGE and delicious. The wines are a nice selection and fairly priced. The staff is professional. I love this place, and when I am successful in talking westside friends into make the trip to meet me there for dinner, they really feel that they have had a true Pasadena experience, and forgive me for making them drive so far. read more

I have passed by Smitty's Grill numerous times during my shopping excursions on Lake. I finally had the opportunity to have dinner there last night and I am so glad I did!The service was fantastic from beginning to end which will make even a mediocre dining experience a good one. Mediocre, however does not at all describe Smitty's Grill. The food was wonderful! Our steaks were cooked to perfection (me- petit filet, friend - NY Strip) and came out piping hot. The dining room was busy and quite lively with guests of all ages (including a family of three with an adorable toddler next to us) but we were still able to hold a conversation and our waitress and the manager frequently checked on us to ensure that were enjoying our experience. The menu selections we ordered were on the pricier end of the menu but I thought they were appropriate and for the quality, well worth it. I would highly recommend Smitty's for dinner with friends or a lowkey date night. We will definitely be back! read more

Great place to eat and not too expensive. I had the chicken pot pie and my wife had the beef stroganoff; both were yummy. For dessert we shared a cookies and coffee iced cream fudge Sunday. If we are ever out this way again we will definitely stop by. read more

OK, I want to be fair......... total bill = $200 for 2 which included 2 drinks each - not a problem --BUT.......... My friend and I had dinner here last night and was pleased they seated us without reservations mid eve on a Saturday. Big props for that! Upon sitting, our server approached and both my guest and I felt she was in a foul mood given her manner -energy. Non the less we gave her the space and both agreed "we" all have off days. My guest and I ordered the Prime Rib with sides and crab cakes as an app. 1) Crab Cakes. = Really? mushy in texture and really didn't offer much of a flavor, saw NO crab at all, seemed more filler than anything. 2) Prime Rib. OK, not bad --just OK; I've had OMG before and this wasn't one of those times.--BUT to be fair, I'd order again, ( My friend did send her's back due to it being cold) 3) Sides, Broccoli and baked potato, OK -good. -average. Over all I'd go back, BUT BUT! Be prepared to spend some cash, I think it's a tad over price................. For the love of God--TURN UP THE LIGHTS!!!! I saw other guest using their phone to view the menu, COME ON-- if your guest need to use a flash light to see the freaking menu, ya might wanna consider turning up the lights,. Also, it's my opinion - staff should NEVER EVER eat in the dinning room, it gives the such a less that classy look to the place. ($200), that price point puts you up there. We saw the host (male & female ) sit and have a meal with wine ( on the job?) another male staff joined them placing his chair sort of in the way of traffic, guest had to walk around to leave. Imagine: Your sitting there- you need something and you look over and see staff 1,2,3 sitting; regardless of them off the clock or not, break or not, you as the guest think what? But, your call Smitty. I don't think we will be running out again to Smitty's anytime soon, but we will go back - every place deserves 2nd chance. read more

I was there tonight with three other colleagues. Had a few beers at the bar as we waited for a late arrival. Draft beer was good. Not a large selection but it was good and it was cold. The chips were great. A nice amount of spice, not too much not to little. A little greasy? Maybe but you're eating homemade chips. Our bowl was empty. We shared a couple of orders of crab cakes and an order of artichokes. We all picked the ahi special. Grilled with a Thai sauce. Our waiter, Moses, suggested another sauce once we were served which was a great compliment to the original creation. Sure not a test of the menu but seeing dishes of other diners I have many things to try. Overall, good food. A bit expensive but not too bad. I really want to like this place. They serve my favorite martini, I like the atmosphere, and it's in my neighborhood. However the menu is BORING and never changes and for what you receive, the prices are high. Tonight I ordered scallops in lemon caper butter sauce( zzzzzzz) and was charged $36 for three scallops and a large pile of mashed potatoes.
