This is my go to place when I am near the financial district of Pasadena. Their home made potato chips are worth the price of entrance and keeps you ordering drinks at the bar. Great American fare here and meatloaf is my favorite dish along with their fried chicken. They have daily specials buy I usually stick to my favorite staple dishes. read more

Smitty's Grill - Meatloaf with the creamiest buttery mashed potatos - American Near Me - Pasadena, California

One of our local favorites! This is our go to comfort food restaurant, and our honey- I just can't cook tonight restaurant.

I've been coming here for the past 15+ years and I'm normally fan of the food and service, until last night. Even though we waited almost 20" past our reservation time, the hostesses were friendly and efficient. The bar service on the other hand was totally indifferent. Soon as we sat down, the bartender told us she was busy and it would be a bit. No problem, it was a busy night. What bothered me was that after she had checked on everyone who had been sitting at the bar, she proceeded to help a group that had just sat down next to us. We had already been sitting there close to 10 minutes. After we finally get a drink, she picks up the bowl of potato chips that had been set in front of us and gives them to someone else. A few minutes later she asks us if we'd like some chips! If it had been earlier, and I wasn't starving, I would have gone elsewhere. What cleaned up the bad bar experience was our server Judy. She is totally accommodating, friendly, and professional. 5 stars to her! The food was acceptable but nothing spectacular. I've had far better food at several other Pasadena restaurants. Not sure I'll be back. read more

We went to Smitty's for the first time and had one of the most fun evenings ever - 13 people for a birthday celebration on the charming back patio. The twinkle lights and fireplace were the perfect ambiance for a happy celebration. The food was delicious. Everyone raved about their choices. What made the evening more perfect was the incredible service by our waiter, Kennedy. He managed 13 orders easily and was always present when we needed something, but not at all intrusive. Five stars for Kennedy! Thanks for a memorable evening. We'll definitely be back. read more

Food is completely overpriced. Took over an hour to serve food similar to Marie Calendar quality. I ordered sirloin steak and got maybe 1/4th of a steak for $28 and it was covered in balsamic vinegar and over cooked. read more

We booked our reservation for our 20th anniversary here. Been coming here for a long time. Awkward seating at first, until a kind hostess stepped in. We ordered appetizers n drinks and never saw our server again...so we left. Nice anniversary read more

My wife an I are GLAD their back open. the patio area was very comfortable/clean and the food an service was at it always was, GREAT. Looking forward to our next visit to Smitty's read more

Great American comfort food with amazing staff! Erica, Patrick, Melanie, Donna, Jared and everyone else there are ROCKSTARS. Food is high quality, environment is friendly with The Who's Who of Pasadena in there nightly. Try it out. It will quickly become your neighborhood spot. read more

Dimmed lights, fancy feasts, and great service. Keisha was impressive with the menu recital; when you think you have a question she provides the answer without you needing to ask. This was my first visit at Smitty's with my fella and his parents to celebrate his birthday. There were orchids and a card on the table. I'd recommend Smitty's for all that it provides and will definitely return to indulge in different menu items. read more

We love to have a cocktail and dinner in their main dining room. Super fun people and atmosphere, not to mention to full menu and tasty dishes. They also do an exec Ella the to-go if your day is going that way. Easy order and pick-up makes it great. read more

Great food great servers, love cocktails (although some times drinks take a while) more positive then negative

Really nice patio seating available during Covid. The servers, cocktails, and food were magnificent! This was an especially special treat since we hadn't been out to eat in such a long time! My husband and I got the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned and Manhattan, and we both felt like they were of noticeable high quality. I got the hanger steak special with chimichurri. The main dish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, but what surprised me was the attention to the flavor of the mashed potatoes and the tenderness of the asparagus. Often times vegetables are overlooked in an entre, but my whole plate was wonderful! I paired it with the Malbec offering, and it did not disappoint. I had myself a perfect little ode to Argentina! My husband got the lobster roll (a brioche sandwich) and the calamari/shrimp starter. He said it was all phenomenal and noted that the calamari wasn't rubbery like it can be. He ate everything! Thank you Smitty's for a wonderful, memorable night out! read more

I am not fond of this restaurant, it's little odd for me, and it lacks atmosphere as well the service is stiff, they trying to cater to local business men I guess and so it's got this unwelcoming feeling, I would also suggest checking the menu before because it's has a very small selection of red meat and potatoes and literally nothing more read more

A true Pasadena treasure. They elevate comfort food to a gourmet level and have inventive and delicious cocktails

Smitty's is great in many ways. It is an old-time feeling restaurant in good ways. It has sort of a clubby atmosphere that is comforting. The staff are very well trained. When one of us asked for a martini, the waiter immediately stated ALL the gins they have. Most places have no idea and would need to go look. When I asked for a menu no longer on the menu I was told "oh they can make it for you"! We told them we were in a bit of a hurry to get to a next event, and the food came fast and was super hot and really good. The menu is a combination of traditional and classics and comfort food. They don't try to be overly fancy, but what they serve is always great. We make a point of going to Smitty's when we are in Pasadena and are never disappointed. read more

Parking: Pasadena is the hardest place to find parking in the SGV. You can attempt street parking, paid lots in the rear, or hoof it from the free lot a few blocks away. Atmosphere: Classy, old Pasadena feel. It's more of the Dockers and Polo older crowd. Service: Superb. The hostess even went above and beyond to get my grandmother hot water, even though it wasn't her job. Food: Cornbread- It's okay. I don't know if it's the best cornbread, since I don't have much experience with it. $9 might be a bit steep for it, though. Rainbow trout- Good fish. Whitefish- The most expensive fish on the menu. It was good, but for the size, I don't think it was quite worth $28. Overall, it's a pretty pricey place to eat and has conventional menu items, which is why I suppose the older, moneyed Pasadena crowd comes to avoid the hipsters. It's somewhere I'd take my parents or grandparents as a safe bet where they won't get scared of all that millennial food. read more

Great place to celebrate birthdays and anniversary parties. Private area's available plus a great fireplace.

This has been our go to place for a long time and it never fails to impress with food, service, and atmosphere.

We were the only party on the patio, but we didn't feel ignored. Service was attentive. The staff was really good about refilling our water. I ordered Creamed Corn as a side, but was given Corn Soup instead. I kept it, which was delicious. We all enjoyed our food, from Lobster Roll to Chicken Cobb Salad. A good place for dinner. read more

This is an update. After posting my review, I received email messages from both Gregg and Jessica from Smitty's right away. I wasn't really expecting a reply so I was pleasantly surprised and appreciated their quick response. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised as this type of customer service is normally what I had come to expect from Smitty's. But I'm glad to see their attention to customer service even during these crazy times is still a priority at Smitty's. As for the food, I'm never disappointed. read more

Just had dinner at Smittty's for the third time. Living in Houston this is my favorite place in Pasadena. Apps were shrimp and calamari, minestrone soup and shrimp cocktail. Main courses were King Salmon, Flat Iron Steak, and Prime Rib. Food and service were outstanding. I love that it's locally owned and the waitstaff were outstanding. Shout out to Johnny our waiter. And additional shout out to Heather your hostess pleasant, helpful and professional. If you are in Pasadena go to Smitty's. Don't think just do it. read more

Very impressed with Smittys's Grill! My friends and I went for drinks while waiting for a table at Sugar fish and ended up staying for dinner! We started at the bar! They were so busy but didn't skip a beat. The bartender, Luz, made me a whiskey sour and YES she used an egg white! We got to the table and the host talked to us about a special food and wine pairing menu! We were blown away! We had no idea Smitty's was doing this! All three of us got the special menu! They change the them every week, this week it was Italy and they had the wine importer there too! Fun Irish guy that knew everything about the wines, the Cascina Luisin Barbareso was my favorite! The Sommelier came by and poured our wines and shared info on the wine as well. The pork Belly and peaches was mouth watering! And the do a cheese course on Wednesdays too! We couldn't get enough of the Pecorino with truffle!!! Smittys's is really stepping up their game! This is my new favorite place for wine! Can't wait to go back! read more

Visited 4/29/17, dinner. Food is excellent! That's the good part. The bad part is the place is just obnoxiously too noisy. I felt I was in a third world country market where hagglers go back and forth. Our party couldn't hear each other talk, so we had to yell at each other to drown out other people's loud conversations. I left the restaurant with a sore throat from all that yelling. I've been in many fine dining restaurants such as this, but the noise level is not as deafening as they have it here. I suppose that's one issue beyond the establishment's control. read more

Always an inviting place. Feels like home. Delicious prime rib and bbq beef ribs. Great service by Jared.

Fabulous food, delivered fast. I ordered the salmon salad and the cornbread. Both kept well in the "to go" ride to me. The salmon was tender, moist, very flavorful. The big win was the cornbread: sweet, light, crunchy outside and soft inside. read more

Lobster Roll all day, every day. I can't bring myself to order anything else but I've stolen bites from around the table and everything is always delicious. Ask for some homemade potato chips for the table! Have always had great servers and service! read more

I had planned to come here for dinner this evening to meet with some neighborhood friends but I could not find the valet parking nor could I find any place else to park. This restaurant has delicious food and the service is great. From the bar tenders to their servers, we revive great service. We come here the 1st weekend of ever month for liver and onions. Also their Smitty salad, crab cakes and hamburger steak are very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Over priced eatery of average " comfort food". Suspect cooks here don't eat much of their own cooking. Service average. A bit too dark for ambience. Back room and out sitting better. read more

One of my favorites in Pasadena. Always great! Never a bad experience or meal. Check it out.

The ahí tuna salad was delicious the prime was okay but love the atmosphere and corn bread is the best in town. Will be coming back.

Birthday celebration, we were told two separate tables due to covid. Okay fine. 15 minutes after sitting down another party was informed of the rule however, they didn't like it and the staff accommodated their needs putting two tables together. Not happy about that. read more

Pricey but the food is good and fantastic customer service. Big wine and spirits selection to choose from. Went with a friend for lunch and will be going back again soon. Two entrees, two drinks and dessert came out to $91 with tip. read more

Terribly inconsiderate. Was sat down at a table and given water at 9:30pm on a Saturday night, not given a menu. Proceeded to wait 20+ minutes but despite having several waiters passing by nobody stopped to take our order. It became obvious to us that the staff was ignoring us intentionally so they wouldn't have to wait on us. We left at about 9:55pm. The second we stood up, a waitress wished us a good evening. They were aware of us the whole time. Wish they had the decency to tell us before we wasted our time that we weren't going to be able to order dinner there. read more

Wow! I have been taking a break from eating red meat and my family decided to order dinner from Smitty's for mother's day. I decided to get ribs but I told myself if they were not going to be fall of the bones ribs i'm going to be so upset. When the first rib fell off cleanly and I ate the meat... it was such a good flavor with a nice crisp that is also a little chewy but I really kinda of like the dual textures. Also for being in a rush for covid 19 is was a long wait, but they gave good curbside directions and they also were very communicative about when orders were being released. Overall, great takeout experience and definitely will happen again soon ! read more

My friends took me to Smitty's Grill years ago and it was just okay for me. Recently my other friends took me to lunch and picked Smitty's because it's near their workplace. My friends were late and the host gave me the option of waiting @ the bar or @ our table. Dungeness crab louie salad ($21.00): the price tag is high, but honestly it's so good!! The boiled egg is nicely seasoned, the crabmeat is fresh and lumpy, and the dressing is so tasty. Complimentary bread & butter. Great service! The valet guy was friendly, the host was polite, and the waiter was attentive. QUICK TIP: FREE VALET PARKING. 4 stars!! Smitty's Grill is yummylicious!! read more
