Celebrated my birthday with a few friends The food and atmosphere are very nice but server kind of unfriendly especially when we do not order drinks or desserts. She disappeared after the meals were ordered. I hope I got a better server next time read more

My husband and I came to this restaurant for our first date night since our baby. They were very accommodating as they gave us a quick reservation within thirty minutes of calling. They have a lovely outdoor seating area with social distancing. All staff were wearing masks and face shields. We started off with fried calamari& shrimp with cornbread honey and butter on the side. Omg ... was the food amazing !!! We devoured the shrimp and cornbread. For entrees my husband got the salmon which was so fresh and to die for. As for my entree was a different story, I ordered the rib eye medium, but twice ordered it came out to be rare when I cut into the meat . The waitress felt so bad as my husband finished his meal and my steak was not properly cooked twice. She then called over her manager Daniel, who was just amazing . He was very understanding of the situation and apologized for the steak not coming out properly . What he did was so shocking to me as he took care or the whole bill for my husband and i. That is called customer service going above and beyond. I was truly surprised what the manger offered my husband and i for the inconvenience. He then also offered me a entree to go and desert since we couldn't stay longer to dine in because of my baby was home with grandma. This was truly an amazing customer service from the manger Daniel and our waitress was very accommodating and friendly Erika. Thank you so much for the amazing food! By the way the carrot cake was absolutely the best I've ever had !! I will be coming back to dine. Thank you again Daniel and Erika for the outstanding food and customer service! Amazing ! read more

This is a longtime favorite with us and so many of our friends. Everything from the valet to the creme brûlée is spot on. The people who work there are special to us. They know us and we know them, and all about each other's families. They treat their guests like family. They remember their guests' tastes and make appealing suggestions for them. One of the greatest losses from the pandemic has been the opportunity to enjoy their food and service the way we had before. We love the takeout, but miss things the way they were. Can't wait for things to get back to normal so we ca dine at Smittty's. read more

I wish there were more bars like this in LA. It has the perfect blend of comfort, class, excellent service, and well shaken drinks. It's a perfect meeting spot for a mid-week rendezvous. And, yes, the bartender graciously replaced my Sidecar martini (for free!) after I spilled the last half of it on the potato chips. George M. didn't seem to mind. I'll be back later to try out the menu. It for sure spoke to my inner Homer Simpson: chicken pot pie, short rib osso bucco, mac' and cheese. And steak! Yep. I'll be back... read more

I am disappointed with the way I was treated with my mother today for lunch. First - We were seated in the patio away from everyone. The wind was blowing against the shades which made a loud sound and was uncomfortable. No one else was seated outside during the time we were there. Second - The valet man pretty much gave us our car keys to get our own car from the parking lot. The man in front of us asked to get his own car and the attendant would not let him and when he came back to us he asked if we wanted to get our own car... I looked at my mom surprised like is he for real? We took the keys and walked to our car and still tipped him. The only good thing we received was that the server was on top of it but I have never felt discriminated in my city until today. Smitty's is upscale and went there because I am a professional and can afford it. Will not go back. read more

Great Resturant Great food and service is Excellent Recommended for everyone love this restaurant.

Smitty's is old school cool, located in the corporate area of South Lake Avenue, in Pasadena. I imagine that it's a great place to take business cronies for an upscale lunch. It's also my favorite neighborhood comfort food destination. If I have a craving for prime rib, this is where I go. Sometimes I order it with a side of creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms. Or I might pair it with one of their wonderful salads. I recommend the signature "Smitty's Salad", with white shrimp, greens, smoked bacon, English peas, green beans, and bleu cheese crumbles. I have also tried the fresh ground beef steak with grilled onions, which is juicy and cooked to perfection. I like that they offer complimentary potato chips, freshly prepared, at the bar. read more

So Hubs and I had a date night at the $3 theater and decided to find dinner near by. We some how ended up at Smitty's. Food - it was whatevers. An old style menu with mediocre food. I am very particular about mid ranged food. I either find that hole in the wall joints taste great or extremely nice places taste great. I am now discovering that this mid-ranged restaurant that isn't inexpensive but not expensive enough to have higher quality ingredients falls flat with me. And this is what they did, fall flat. Ambiance - or more should i say cleanliness was AWFUL. There was a lipstick stain on my glass as well as a dried raspberry seed or something on my napkin. Made me question everything else. A dirty used napkin and dirty drinking glasses honestly put me off for the entire dinner. I am not a clean freak, but EHHKKKKK read more

I'd been wanting to go to Smitty's for over a year and just never did. Until last night. The food was just okay, it wasn't at all spectacular. Considering the prices, I was expecting a far, far tastier experience. I had a ribeye, which was undercooked. I ordered it medium rare. When it arrived, it was rare. Not a huge deal to a fairly frequent meat eater, but still. Aside from that - it was tender but relatively flavorless. My boyfriend had ribs, which were good and tender but again, not spectacular. The creamed corn was weird. There was a corn starch flavor underneath it. If you've ever tasted corn starch straight out of the box, you'll know what I mean. It's weird. Service was very average. Nothing outstanding. We had to ask twice to get our water refilled. I guess the whole point I'm trying to make is this: This place is good, but not great. And frankly, for these prices, you can get a much better meal at countless other restaurants. read more

First and foremost, this review is solely base on the service because we didn't even try the food. I have to admit that Smitty's is currently the worst experience I have had at all the restaurants in Pasadena. When we arrived, we were seated in the back patio. It took our server almost 15 minutes to come over to take our drink order. Then it took 10 minutes for the drinks to come and take our food order. It wasn't a busy night and the patio is not that big so we couldn't figure out the long wait time. My friends and I chatted while we waited for the food and I had to excuse myself to go to the restroom. While I was in the restroom, there was a well dressed gentleman at the urinal doing his business. I went to the empty stall and I noticed that when he was finished he just walked out of the restroom without washing his hands. No running water noise from the sink or pulling paper towel sound. Pretty gross considering you're in a restaurant. I ignored it and we back to the table after I finished. We noticed that it has been over 40 minute since we placed the order and the food is still missing. We flagged down the server, asked him how much longer before the food comes and he said he will go check. He comes back in a few minutes and tells us it will take another 10 minutes. Another 10 minutes! What were they doing with the other 40 minutes? At the point we decided that we wanted to cancel the order and leave. The server goes and gets the manager. The well dress gentleman in the restroom who didn't wash his hands turns out to be the manager! GROSS! The manager apologies for the bad service and wanted to shake our hands but I avoided that handshake but my friends weren't so lucky. I informed them of his pee-pee hand afterward and of course they all freaked out. That was my experience on the service at Smitty's. FYI, we left Smitty's and went to a place we love to eat, The Luggage Room, where the service is great and the food is delicious. read more

Right now, even though I'm not giving five stars, I'm giving maaaaad props to Smitty's for their service. We took my mom here for her birthday. Surprisingly busy for a Monday night. When the food arrived, unfortunately my mom's rack of lamb was way overcooked for her taste, despite mentioning to the server that "She was trying to decide between the rack of lamb and filet minon because she likes her meat very rare". When she said something to them, they not only replaced her order, but comped it along with a glass of wine. The manager also came over and personally apologized. Later, when we told the waitress it was her birthday, they also comped us an ice cream sunday. That, my friends, is how you keep customers coming back. Well done Smitty's. Well done... As for the food, unfortunately, it wasn't quite the quality I remember it being, especially the Mac N. Cheese. Don't get me wrong - it was fine - but it just wasn't great. For those prices (around $27 for rack of lamb), your not paying for fine - you are paying for great. Still, I appreciate the service and for that reason alone, will be back. read more

Delicious food, great atmosphere. We had a great time with my husband celebrating our anniversary.

I honestly can say I don't remember why we came here, but I do remember the meal quite well. We sat out on the patio which was nice because the inside was quite busy. Given that I can't really comment on the decor of the place. The service was also fine. Nothing exceptional either way. Decent, but could be better, could be worse. The food is where I felt let down. I had the pot pie which so many people have raved about. A pot pie to me is a deep dish with with crust all the way around filled with a thick gravy, chunks of meat, and veggies. They had the meat and veggie part down, but not the rest. The pot pie comes out and looks huge! It is a trick of the eye though. They serve it on a large, but shallow, bowl; almost a plate. I put my spoon in and hit plate almost right away. No crust on the bottom! That is almost my favorite part. The bottom and side crust is all gooey and saturated with gravy. Really this is more of a deconstructed pot pie. They also serve it REALLY hot. Like I burned my mouth pretty badly hot. I even waited a few minutes and opened up the crust to cool it down. I want my food hot, but I also don't want lava that I can't eat until after everyone else is done eating. It just wasn't flavorful either. It just lacked the comfort aspect of a comfort food dish. Maybe it was the lack of crust, maybe it was that it came out as boiling lava and cooked the flavor away. It just wasn't a pot pie. 13/100 read more

Made reservations for an evening dinner, got a table towards the back of the restaurant...nice and very intimate...here to celebrate our anniversary. Rueben was our waiter, very professional and informative, gave us the daily specials and the supporting staff was very helpful. We started off with calamari & shrimp, lightly fried and served with a marinara sauce and a sort of tartar-sauce like....I would have preferred a cocktail sauce. I ordered the petite filet and it was cooked perfectly, my wife got the chicken piccata, which was so tender, it would melt in your mouth...we had french fried potatoes as a side...more than enough for the both of us. To finish off our meal, we had the special dessert of the day...tiramisu...it was a really good sized dessert and very good. The only bad thing, I was looking at the menu...need to freshen up the printed menu...looks like it was from the 80's but with current prices, just a thought. This was our 2nd time here, it's been a while but still solid as a rock...good food, service and value. read more

I'm sorry to have to be one of those annoying reviewers who rates based on service, not food. I already rated this place for food - it was great. However, I came here last weekend and they were extremely rude, and we couldn't even get a table! Let me back up. Admittedly, I didn't have a reservation. I knew this could be a problem, so we called ahead and were told that there would be a 20-25 minute wait. Fine, I was okay with that. So we got here, and the hostess told us the same thing when we arrived - 20-25 minute wait. Or, she gave us the option of eating at the bar. Which I normally would not have been completely opposed to, but eating my prime rib at the bar on my birthday just didn't seem like the way to go. So we opted to wait the 20 minutes (I mean, most places round up, right? so if it's going to take 15 minutes, they tell you 20, and if it's going to take 50, they tell you an hour?) and sat down at the bar for a drink. I got a glass of wine, and munched on the chips sitting at the bar (trying not to consider how many germs are usually breeding in those bar munchies). I took my sweet time with my glass of wine, and a few people who came in after us sat down at the bar, and later were seated. Maybe they had reservations, who knows. But when this happened over and over, and I looked at the time to see that 45 minutes had gone by, I became impatient. So we walked back up to the hostess stand. She said 'can I help you?' in a snooty tone, as if we hadn't been waiting there for almost an hour already! We told her we'd been waiting for a long time when she promised a table in 20 minutes, and she said 'sorry, there are 2 people ahead of you'. Excuuuuuse me? Why didn't you mention this before, when we first came in? I'm willing to bet that she put those people in front of us based on race and dress. I mean, I'm sorry I'm not an older well-dressed caucasian lady, nor my bf in a sportscoat. I really think she needs to learn how not discriminate, because she barely batted an eye at us, giving me the impression that she was never going to seat us until the restaurant had emptied. We promptly left and spent our money elsewhere, because apparently it's not good enough for the Smitty's snooty hostess. To be fair, the bartender was extremely nice, and did not have the snooty air about her at all. The bad review is purely for the snooty tall blonde hostess that worked on Saturday night. read more

I've been to this restaurant a number of times and ordered quite a few of the items: the meatloaf, the patty melt, chicken pot pie, beef rib-eye, pork loins, mac and cheese. I usually will NOT order meatloaf in a restaurant. Who the heck knows what's in a meatloaf? My theory is whatever is left over from the night before, they grind that up, smush it together and VIOLA! You have meatloaf! And so I finally ordered the meatloaf here and I was pleasantly surprised. It's very flavorful and tender. So just for one lunch period... I was able to forget all that is bad about meatloaf and enjoyed it. The patty melt: it's very good. I wouldn't say it's the best though, but it's better than a lot of places. The chicken pot pie: also very good. It is a very big portion. I like big portions. So I finished it. hehe... The mac and cheese: eh... I'm not a fan of mac and cheese either so I tasted a friend's. hehhe I cheated I know. The put slices of ham in there. It has a decent taste to it, but it's mac and cheese! Why would you pay over $10 for mac and cheese? The pork loins: this was a special they had and it had a peanut sauce on top, which was the reason why I ordered it. The loin chops were very tender and tasty. In addition, the peanut sauce did not disappoint. The rib-eye: I have been to many steakhouses and thus far, no one's rib-eye even comes close to the flavor that Smitty's rib-eye has. It's very very tender and very very tasty. It's always cooked to perfection so I'm always happy to order it. I guess my only regret is that I haven't ordered their buffalo rib-eye. That's definitely going to be my order on my next visit there. As of 10/24/07: ordered the buffalo rib-eye. As far as flavor goes, it doesn't quite stack up to the beef rib-eye. However, it is a delicious piece of meat that will not disappoint. The service as usualy is amazing. The desserts: chocolate mousse cake & the pumpkin cheesecake were awesome. As of 1/30/08: I had a taste of the Short rib osso bucco and had my own dish of the special Flat Iron Steak with peppers, roasted garlic on top, served w/ mashed potatoes. Both were extremely tasty. Everytime a vendor takes me to lunch, Smitty's is my first choice. read more

I never even think of this place for a dining experience. As I used to work down the street from here, and come in every blue moon for a cocktail. WELL, Surprise; Surprise! The Dining experience was one of my favorite EVER, in this City. (probably just adjacent to Houston's; and they're very attentive).. The food was great, the service was near perfect; and it was easy to order as your choices are that of an all American steak & seafood restaurant. Not much more to say than pretty fine dining; especially if your a local, and your over all the hoopla that OLD TOWN has to offer. read more

Their chicken pot pie is no joke. It's a huge portion and unfortunately I doubt it would be the same if you took it home for leftovers, so be prepared to eat and eat and eat! The flavors are homey and really hit the spot. It's a bit expensive for chicken pot pie, but considering the portion size, it's acceptable. My coworkers ordered fish and pastas, which also looked delicious. I didn't have the opportunity to try them, but seems like a solid choice for a business lunch. read more

We went to Smitty's Grill a few weeks ago and it was amazing! We went on a Wednesday because they do wine flights! You get 3 different wines, about 3 ounces each for $25. Such a great deal! The Sommelier came over and talked about the wines and they had the wine maker there too! I got the food pairing menu that was specifically matched to the wines! My favorite was the porcini rubbed bone-in rib-eye. Absolutely amazing! My server was Judy, she made us feel like royalty! The restaurant looked great and it was crazy busy! Good to see that Pasadena gem doing well! I can't wait to go back for another flight night and see what wines their doing next! read more

Had a business lunch there. Chose the fish special that they were offering and it was perfect. Had three martinis (green apple) because it was after all a business lunch. The bartender is an expert mixologist. Great little rooms separate groups of people, so it appears to be more intimate than one big dining room. I would recommend this to anyone. I will return. read more

I have been to Smitty's many times over the years. It has gone sooo down hill. We ordered a few times delivery during the Covid closure. The food was horrible so we stopped ordering. We decided to give it a chance again because I use to really enjoy their food. We ordered through Door Dash right when they opened. We got our order and half was missing. The driver said that they handed him the order and said it was all there. Not his fault. Called and the hostess told me they would call me back and look into. No call back. I reordered what I was missing and called back. She said it was the drivers fault. I told it was not that he was standing at my door still and they did not give the driver the second bag. She said she got my reorder and it would be rushed. It was not rushed. 3 hours later we finally had both orders. No sorry. No here's a free dessert. Nothing!!! $300 order I had to wait 3 hours to get and it was mediocre. read more

When one of my "friends" on my list wrote a review about Smitty's I thought, I've been there several times in the past...I should get off my lazy butt and write a review. So, here I am, once again, writing a belated review...My last experience eating and drinking here was about 5 months ago. I was here for their steak chili...I absolutely love it...yummers...if you like chili, get it here, along with their corn bread...WOW...great combination! The service is good, the food is good (and I have had other things besides chili). and the small bar is a great place to start...you know I love my Stoli on the rocks. Speaking of "rocks"...THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! read more

My friends treated me to a good ole fashion comfort food meal at Smitty's Grill tonite. We started out with a bowl of chili paired with a skillet of corn bread. The chili is fabulous -- there's actually no beans in the chili but rather shredded beef. The corn bread is also very good and topped with crumbs of something sweet. And for my entree, I ordered the half rack of baby back ribs marinated in rattlesnake bbq sauce. Absolutely delicious! The rattlesnake sauce is spicy and gives the ribs a special kick in flavor. LOVE IT. For dessert we shared a slice of the flourless chocolate cake -- think rich chocolate fudge and sinfully good. read more

Went here for Valentines Dinner with my Wife. I ordered the Lamb, which was listed as a Valentines Day Special. For $40 I would have expected a solid meal, I did However receive a disappointing boring, sad plate with some fat and a little lamb meat. Outbacks lamb is a million times better. I have a feeling that when I asked about the origin of the lamb they knew I wanted Australian Lamb, and just told me that. My wife ordered the Petite Fillet, Medium and received a well done steak. We asked for bread, but by the time we were done with our meals bread had never appeared on our table. I agree with another reviewer - Go to Cheval Blanc in stead - stay away from this place - Over priced, with amateurs in the kitchen! read more

Two star: Me and my wife went to dinner there and order the Filet Mignon and NY Steak both medium rare. Wife steak came out perfectly, warm pink on the inside, still juicy. The NY came out "well done", well cook on the outside but way too dry to enjoy a steak. I was pretty upset so I let our waiter know which he was really nice and took it back to the kitchen and got us another steak. While I appreciate the gesture, my wife steak is now cold from waiting to get mine... And behold, when my steak came out it was a Blue rare. Burnt chard on the outside and blue cold on the inside.. Really? You would expect such an establishment to know what medium rare is but no.. the steak was cook on a grill so hot that it was basically burnt on the outside and refrigerated cold on the inside. So now we have a cold Filet mignon and a blue rare steak... While I really try to stay positive and enjoy the side dish (which were delicious) it really ruined my experience there. I would give it one star but the filet mignon was on point. read more

Because I'm cursed to be a fountain of useless information, my initial reaction when I found out the six of us were going to a place called "Smitty's" was kind of apprehensive: after all, "Smitty" was the name of Adam Sandler's character on "The Cosby Show," which has nothing to do with anything, but was still something that went through my mind. I need not have worried, though, as nothing even close to approximating Sandler's brand of existence can be found here: classy dining rooms, two spacious patios, a private dining room that can hold dozens and a varied menu officiated by a staff rife with the patience, knowledge and understanding needed to handle both "local regulars" and "out-of-towners." We came here for dinner last Monday with a 5:45 reservation. I gather the place gets packed nightly, but would never have otherwise known as we opted to sit on the patio out back behind the place by a valet (and a parking lot across the street we stashed our vehicles in). This patio had a handful of tables and a fireplace along the back, while also being secluded behind a stylish fence and under a weave of rafters. Moments after being seated, Chris came to our table and the man had personality to burn. He was as comfortable with us as if he had known us for years, and made our dining experience that much more at ease. Which is even more incredible when you factor in the metric ton of questions we asked, ranging from "Would you get this or that?" to "Can you help me build a meal around a side order of corn?" Smitty's menu is varied, ensuring anyone coming here will find something to (hopefully) enjoy. We started with the renowned cornbread and the cheese bread appetizers. The cornbread more than lived up to its reputation as the starter to beat, while the cheese bread was almost a chore to get through. For the main course, we opted for the meatloaf, short ribs, grilled trout, pot roast and cioppino. The grilled trout was full of flavor, the short ribs were gone before I knew they even arrived and the pot roast was melt-in-your-mouth quality goodness. Meatloaf was a little tough and the cioppino was perfectly average. I was about ready to crack the crab claw on the sidewalk out front before giving in and turning my attention toward the dessert menu. We went with two orders of the key lime pie and I did my old standby of a liquid dessert. There were no scotch menus to be had but Chris had the layout of the bartender's toolkit mapped to his mind and was able to rattle off the scotches they had in stock. Moments later, he returned with a generous pour. I was unsure whether to thank him or the bartender, but there were more important questions to consider: where was the bathroom? Fortunately, I need not have walked far as it was along the right side of the single hallway leading through the restaurant. While I was taking care of business, I noticed the classic pin-up poster to my right along the wall by the urinals. I thought they were fun, but you know someone is going to go in this bathroom and it will be culture shock for their Puritanical upbringing. To them I say get over it - besides, naked Solitaire on the beach looks fun! Anyway, after my voyage to a potentially confusing world where pin-up girls are trying to sell me bubbles(?) near the sinks, a manager came by to introduce himself and give his thanks for our business. Clearly, I was still mesmerized by a deadly combo of vintage scotch and vintage women because I cannot remember his name, but kudos to him for being a people-person with his customers. And he had his hands full as the place was positively booming inside - the private dining room had filled in (I know because I totally snuck a peak in on the way to the bathroom) and the main dining room/bar area was loud. I guess it gets kind of noisy inside but our three tables on the patio were unobtrusive to one another... I think. We were probably the "loud" table on the patio but hey, someone has to be. All in all, Smitty's is an easy recommendation to make. Reservations are probably a good idea, and you may want to do your homework on the menu before arriving. By and large, the menu is full of delicious choices to make. But having a few in mind will help your server make some suggestions to guide you to those dishes that elevate "good" to "great." And at the end of the day, "great" is a perfect word to use for Smitty's. read more

I've been meaning to leave this review for quite some time now. My husband and I live literally across the street from this restaurant and have eaten here three times now (and plan on becoming regulars). The best thing about this restaurant has got to be the service. Despite the fact that we live within walking distance to a number of great restaurants, my husband and I both agree that the service at this place is by far the best. Most notable would be the server, Von, whom we've had twice now and both experiences with him have been incredible. Aside from keeping our water glasses full (heck, the water doesn't even get to the half way point before they are filled again), Von (and the other workers here since they all deserve some credit) are beyond awesome at stopping by constantly to check on our table, and we are always greeted with a warm smile and welcomed by everyone that works here. The service here is by far some of the best service my husband and I have had at any restaurant we've been to, and we've gone to some ritzy places before in the past where we'd easily spend over two hundred dollars on a meal for just the two of us. I also love the prime rib here, and my husband has also enjoyed their chicken pot pie. The food always comes out quickly and cooked perfectly to order. We both have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant, and are definitely planning on eating here a lot more often in the future. The prices are also not bad considering the type of service you get. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. read more

Does anybody read these epic, whiny, 15 paragraph tales of their bad service experience? What a buzzkill! If you want solid, well-prepared comfort food and amazing cocktails, Smitty's is your place. If you are not all that familiar with American food, you may not appreciate it. I have never had a bad experience here. Try the chicken pot pie, ahi tuna appetizer, iceberg wedge with Point Reyes blue cheese --- and a big frosty Grill Martini. Yeah! read more

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for Smitty's. The place has been around for over 10 years. They server really good drinks. Especially the 'Sidecar' martini, laden with so much sugar on the rim it woke me up after 10 long hours in the office. It's especially good on the Kettle Fried Potato Chips they serve at the bar. Jennifer J. ended up spilling her drink on them and the combination of salt, sugar and booze was really tasty. I had a Vodka Martini. read more

Smitty's Grill - It's been around for 10 years. - American Near Me - Pasadena, California

I met with a group of 8 last night for a birthday dinner. My experience this time wasn't much better than last month. I had the pork chop special (avoided the NY Steak after my last trip a month ago), which I ordered medium. The pork chop was dry and flavorless. The fruit salsa on the top helped a little, but not much since it was so dry. That being said the cornbread was still delicious, and the double chocolate mousse cake for dessert was literally to die for! I tried my wife's white fish which was definitely better than the pork chop, but that doesn't say much. The service was not that great - our server never asked how our meal was after it was delivered. When the meals were brought out, they didn't seem to know who had what entree. Three of us had a bottle of wine. When the server refilled us, one of the three was skipped even though her glass was the lowest. We had a 2 year old with us but were not given a children's menu until we asked for it. They did have a high chair waiting for us. Wouldn't that be a good sign to bring a children's menu too??? It must be hard to find good people to work at restaurants in Pasadena. I don't envy the owner's job. read more

Yes, the food is tasty, comforting, and traditional, consistent with the cuisine served at the other Pasadena restaurants. Yes, the service is attentive, warm, and polite. My issue with Smitty's is not with taste or service, but rather with basic hygiene and quality control. I've been there several times with my family and enjoyed these dinners. However, the last time we dined at Smitty's I ordered a braised veal shank on a bed of lentils. The shank was delicious and flavorful. The kitchen staff, however, had failed to wash the lentils, and when I bit down on them I cracked a big chip off my front tooth on the chunks of gravel they had left in the dish. This suggests that despite the pleasant and attractive presentation of the cuisine, Smitty's is lacking in basic quality control. I had the tooth ground down by my dentist, at some considerable expense, but there's still a chunk missing. My recommendation is that you avoid this establishment until they get their act together regarding simple things like washing the legumes instead of leaving the dirt in them...I'm not going back. read more

I had the best brisket here at Smitty's a few months back. I normally order short ribs whenever I go to steak-house type restaurants but I was convinced by our waitress their brisket special was "outstanding." And it was. Tender, full of juices and just enough gravy to give the meat a well-flavored note. I remember nothing else about the sides other than they were good because I was so enchanted with my brisket. My friend thought her iceberg wedge salad was "good" and the mac and cheese "interesting." Hmm, it was severely lacking in the ham that was supposed to be part of the dish which left her feeling protein-deprived (how she came to that conclusion in the wake of all that cheese, I don't know!). I had perfect vodka tonics here while a friend proclaimed his absolut and sprite to be too "limey." The waitress happily took it away to get him another. Service was pretty good in general. We had made online reservations about 30 minutes before going to the restaurant and bypassed all the walk-ins that had been waiting. The atmosphere is definitely dark woods and an All-American clubby feel. It was also extremely loud but ensconced at our table, we actually felt like we were in our own island of calm, occasionally interrupted by the silent bussers constantly refilling our water glasses. I definitely want to go back because how can I resist good food, decent service AND a fun atmosphere? read more

Love Smitty's....if I had one wish....they would have a much larger bar area. Anyway, I had my usual....Mac n cheese...excellent of course. My friend had the filet. He said it was very good. we finished off with key lime pie ...it is delicious and is an individual round dessert not a slice. Yummy and perfect for two to share. I utilized valet out back. They are super friendly and attentive. Car's always right up front. Staff is friendly and good. read more

Probably one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! Completely full restaurant on a Sunday night. The hostess/manager Michelle was super accommodating to try and get us a seat. We quickly got a spot at the bar and encountered Johnny. Johnny turned out to be the best bartender/server we have ever had. Top notch service from a professional and efficient bartender. Very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. We had a great dinner with good drinks and a fantastic bartender taking care of us. From start to finish Smitty's excelled in every area. Johnny and Michelle are true professionals and really take good care of their customers! read more

Amazing! Love Smitty's! We've been eating their weekly for years but today the manager went above and beyond for our family. I just wanted to say thank you! We love everything on the menu...friend chicken, meatloaf, sand dabs, piccata, salmon, the wedge, calamari, chili, Mac and cheese, etc. My kids have to have their Smitty's French fries every Friday night! They are really incredible! It's the best place in town!!! read more

I came here twice; once for a dinner conference and another time for dinner w/ a friend. Both times the waiters and host were incredibly sweet, courteous and professional. I had the Albacore Tuna panini for dinner w/ a side of creamed spinach. Both were good, nothing too exceptional. My friend had the Stroganoff; very delicious! At the dinner conference, I had the crabcakes; I ate like 4 because they were soooo tasty. Breading was just right; not too thick. Fishy taste was also just right instead of being too powerful. Their signature cornbread is also very hearty. For my entrée, I had the Mahi Mahi: cooked perfectly w/ caper sauce. I'll definitely consider going back for dinner to try the French Dip! read more

Smittys is the best place in Pasadena to have prime rib. There I said it. You get a giant serving with creamy yummy mashed potatoes and the au jus and horseradish sauce it is serve with are perfect compliments. I love eating here. Their filet mignon bleu cheese burger is also really delicious. It's big and juicy and very flavorful. I've also have their osso bucco and it is heavenly though I think they have taken it off the menu which made me very sad. The wedge salad is a good simple starter and their house made potatoes chips that you get free at the bar are crunchy salty and just really damn good potato chips. The chicken pot pie is also really good if you like pot pie. Their chocolate cake is very very good if you have a hankering for chocolate cake. They give you a big slice also. They serve good single malt scotch there which is a plus at any restaurant that serves steaks and prime rib. Wonderful place for comfort food. I go here several times a year and enjoy it every time. read more
