Smitty's has always been a hit or miss but last week it ranked a whole new level of BAD. After I made a reservation on an app noting the area I wanted to sit in, I still had to wait 45 minutes for a table in the dining area (the outside tables in the back are very depressing-- the inside has a nice ambiance) and was not seated until well past 8pm. Starving, we waited an eternity for a waiter who was, and I am trying to be kind, rude and odd. We waited another eternity for the food, only to have my order wrong. When I finally flagged down a bus person because my waiter was no where to be found, the bus person swept up my dish and snapped "this is going to take a very long time!" I said not to bother as it was almost 9pm and we needed to leave. The manager came over to apologize but made no attempt to comp anything. Worst experience ever. Never going back. read more

I've been coming to Smittys's for many years. Their food is great. I especially like their prime rib which is always available.

We have been going to Smitty's for many years. This time, we had the best waiter we have ever had at Smitty's. His name was Luciano. Exceptional service. We will definitely go back and request him as our waiter. Of course, the food is always wonderful! This time though, it was our waiter that made our visit so special. Thank you, Luciano! read more

My husband and I are frequent here quite often and everything is ALWAYS top notch. There special touch of flowers and a card for special occasions won us over during one of our earlier trips here. The Chicken Pot Pie is AWESOME!! I highly recommend this place to any and everyone! read more

My three friends and I came here for good dinner and cocktails. Had Hangar Steak, Trout, Filet Mignon and Ribeye Steak. Also, wedge salad, shrimp cocktails, crab cakes. Also, Classic martinis, Espresso martinis and Barrell Aged bourbon. Mr. Parker says Smitty's salad was outstanding. My crew is happy. Thanks Greg! read more

We went for an early New Year's Eve dinner. I had made reservations on Dec 20th but we still were seated on the patio which was fine, it was not crowded, plenty warm & protected from the rain. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail & the shrimp were huge. My son & I split a Cesar salad & it was enough for 2. The bread they served with the salad was warm and delicious. My husband and son both ordered the steak which was the special and they enjoyed it. I had the Sea Bass which was delicious. My son ordered the double chocolate mouse which turned out to be a large piece of cake. The mouse was in the center of the cake and the frosting was fantastic. This dessert was the best ever & if you love chocolate be sure and get a piece! The service was very prompt! read more

It was a nice evening with good food. A little noisy inside but everyone was so happy to be out again. We split the special but it was rather small I wished the waiter had noted that when we ordered. read more

Very disappointing. The chili was cold and so salty that it was barely edible. The trout I ordered was doused in butter to the point where you couldn't taste the fish. We've been there before and it was good, so I'm not sure what happened. read more

My favorite restaurant in the area. Perfect everything I love Smittys. It's our go to place in Pasadena.

Smitty's is the place to go for delicious, comfort food. Everything on the menu is freshly made with quality ingredients. This time I tried the Chicken Piccata with sautéed spinach. Loved it! read more

Smitty's is my go-to restaurant for special occasions and just when I want a fun night out. The service and food has been consistently top-notch and friendly. I love the red-leather booths. They are continuing the outside seating which is great. The drinks are fabulous and the handmade potato chips are too addictive! Yum and fun with a night-out of glam! read more

I've been coming here for years. I gave him three stars because it used to be better than it is now. On my recent visit I had chicken pot pie and really it was a joke. Chicken pot pie is supposed to be a very flavorful experience with a rich gravy. This one tasted like they opened frozen vegetables, warmed them up with some diced chicken, added bland gravy and a pizza crust. It made me want to go home and make a proper chicken pot pie. It literally is expensive diner food. It's hard to find good food in Pasadena. I feel like they need to hire a chef. It's about the same as Paul Martins. read more

Delicious food, wonderful service and a cozy setting. Smitty's has been and continues to be a great choice for dining.

Had a great dining experience at Smitty's. Ambiance was great, service was wonderful and the grub "delicious" ... Planning our next visit. Eileen S read more

We went last night for our anniversary. The hostess went out of her way to greet us, gave us the best table & a lovely card. The service was fantastic. We had shrimp as an appetizer & for the main course my husband had the meatloaf & mashed potatoes. I had the petite filet & a baked potato. And I forgot to mention my yummy cosmo! The manager came over to talk & had a wonderful discussion. So nice to be out in a beautiful setting with fantastic food but more than anything it was the people that made it special. Thank you! The food and the ambiance was great. I will definitely go back there. We went on a Saturday night and though it was packed we were seated within 15 minutes upon arrival and yes we had a reservation. Great menu, nice portion sizes and tons of options, I was able to eat carb free, with no issues about substitutions. If you're in the neighborhood and want good food and service Smitty's is the place. They also have a full bat but I don't drink anymore so I can't speak on it. Hope this helps someone, Cheer!! read more

I've been to Smitty's Grill many times, and I will go again. However, we had a completely out-to-lunch waiter at dinner earlier this week. I ordered a simple cocktail; before he left the table, he asked me "which wine was it that you wanted?" I ordered a baked potato, and was served mashed potatoes. He served my guest's entree to me--a chicken pot pie confused with a steak. My steak was rare, not medium rare. I ordered coffee with cream, and was served black coffee and left chasing down a waiter for the cream. This was such a simple dinner, but not a single thing was served correctly. Thank goodness the waiter, and everyone, was cheerful. I really was afraid of what was going to show up on the table next. Didn't risk a dessert--just got out of there. read more

We will not return. We had a reservation and they still sat us in the bar area. We asked to switch and she said no, next time tell them you dont want to sit on the bar area when you make the reservation. There was a football game going on and people were standing right next to our table to watch. We had no space and there cheering was so loud,we could not hear our own conversation. It was our anniversary dinner and it was a terrible experience. I had the steak special and it was just ok. My husband had the salmon special and it was not the best. The waitress gave us a free dessert to make up for it. That was a kind gesture, but did not make up for the terrible experience. read more

Another fantastic Smith brothers success story. I've been coming to Smitty's for years and always have a fantastic dining experience. It's the ultimate high end comfort food. Smitty's salad, the steak chili, cornbread, are all great starters. When I've had a rough day I will order a petite fillet and a side of their most excellent mac & cheese that is to die for! Most recently I had the pork chop and it was very good medium rare with mashed potatoes. But I wasn't so keen on the sautéed red cabbage served as a side. The great thing about Smitty's is, you can simply ask them to substitute another vegetable, and they will gladly accommodate you. There are always a few daily chef specials that are usually very very good and worth a try if they peak your interest. read more

To be fair we did not try the food but this is because the hostess was very rude and incorporative that we didn't make it to our table. We made reservations through yelp. We showed up to the restaurant and parked our car in valet parking. We walked from the back (entrance where valet is) to the front of the restaurant to check in with the hostess and be seated. It was our first time at the restaurant. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating. It was around 6:15pm on a Saturday and restaurant was half empty. We requested to be seated indoor because the heaters were too strong outside and the high heat gives me a headache. I didn't get the hostess name but she was blonde. She checked with the other hostess and informed us we can't be seated inside because we didn't make the request on yelp when we made the reservation (again our first time and didn't know and restaurant is half empty). She offered to turn off the heater because it's next to each table, we agreed. When we were shown to our table, it was a small area 3-4 ceiling heater and one floor heater. I explained the problem is the ceiling heater because it's very strong and covering every table. She said she couldn't help us so we got our car from valet and left hungry. Thankfully, found a restaurant a mile away that was much busier than smitty's and sat us indoors when I requested that without a reservation. I was really happy to try their food, but I am so happy I didn't give my money to this establishment. read more

BBQ Beef ribs. Smitty's corn bread. Caesar. Lemon drop. Double chocolate ganache mousse cake. Need I say more? The best!!!

I was underwhelmed with the food, service and atmosphere. Also the attitude that the hostess serves while seating us was not appreciated.

My last two dinners at Smitty's Grill have been disappointing compared to my pre-pandemic experiences. Same prices, much smaller portions. Quality was good, but not excellent. Service was inconsistent --- sometimes excellent, sometimes mediocre. Inside atmosphere hasn't changed, but they are still seating people under a tent in the parking lot. Fortunately, I have always requested inside, and would walk out if they tried to seat me in the tent. I got the feeling that they are trying to compensate for their financial losses during the pandemic. I hope that eventually they can regain their previous standards. read more

When I arrived just before noon, there weren't many other people in the place. The Christmas decor is gorgeous (seriously -- I usually find this stuff tacky, but I loved the atmosphere from second 1) and my server, Jose, warmly welcomed me. I sat down and looked at the menu for a few minutes before deciding to switch from a chicken pot pie to a salmon salad (because societal pressure and health concerns). However, I did order a glass of Amici sauv blanc. My salad was refreshing, flavorful, and easy to eat. Jose checked in on me carefully and sincerely. I got crème brûlée for dessert and mentioned to Jose (mostly as a result of drinking wine on a stomach of arugula and grilled fish) that I had come into this lovely establishment to treat myself after months of working on grad school apps. He smiled and said that was exciting, and that he wished me good luck. I thanked him and went back to reading my book. While eating my crème brûlée (it's fanTAStic!), I gave Jose my credit card so he could run my payment for the bill. He came back to return my card and casually informed me that his manager had decided to COMP MY MEAL because of their collective ADMIRATION re: my pursuing a postgraduate EDUCATION. I sat there, stunned, not sure of how to react and wondering if there had been a mistake. A few minutes later, I asked Jose to please send his manager over to confirm that this was real and that I hadn't unknowingly died. Less than a minute after that, Smitty's manager Art came over to personally shake my hand and confirm that, yes, this was all real and happening. He said it was admirable that I was committed to my education and that it was actually Jose's idea to comp my meal. I thanked him profusely. Art smiled and said that everyone who walks into Smitty's is family, that he looked forward to seeing me return. I left Jose a $20 tip. To say that I left this place feeling content is a cruel understatement. I don't think it's possible to convey my gratitude in a dumb little Yelp review, but maybe someone else out there will get it: I have been entrenched in my work and felt isolated for months. I went to this restaurant thinking I'd enjoy my meal but naturally did not expect such authentic generosity. If you want an upscale lunch or dinner with a seriously good wine list (+ good cocktails, from the looks of the menu) and great service from real people, you should get over to this place. It's nice to know that compassion and thoughtfulness still exist in 2017-America. Thank you, Art and Jose, for this truly heartwarming experience! I'll be back as soon as I can :) read more

First time actually eating here at Smitty's. I usually have a tradition with a friend that we just come here and have a few drinks on Christmas Eve night. On this night, I arrive and my table was ready so that's a plus. The service was on point I drink a lot of water and my glass was never empty. The waiter just kept coming and refilling my water. The food was so good. I didn't left anything on my plate. So overall service and food were A on my standards. I should come eat on Christmas Eve instead of being at the bar.. read more

I tried Smitty's Grill a couple weeks ago with my girlfriend and another couple. It was a week night I was thinking the traffic would be horrid going from Long Beach to Pasadena but actually wasn't bad at all. The experience was amazing. The restaurant manager/somolier Matt Coleman personally came over and introduced himself. He made food and wine recommendations that blew our socks off. We tried the flight and he came by our table again to explain where each wine came from, and details about the wines we had no idea. Such attention to detail and at the same time he was super down to earth. Many wine experts can make the average person feel inadequate but Matt made us feel really comfortable and taught us so much About wine and great food. Now to the food, we all ordered very different styles: Chicken pot pie, cioppino, flank steak, and a variety of appetizers. Let's just say each one was amazing. We really had nothing else to say about our food, wine, and experience there. I highly recommend this place. If you go, I hope you're lucky enough to go on a night when Matt Coleman is working. It's an amazing experience and we all will definitely be back. read more

Came in a few weeks ago with a friend who really wanted to dine here. After looking through the menu and not wanting a salad (because I am plant based) I decided to not pick an entree and focus on tea and maybe cheat with dessert since I've been told so much about it. I didn't even order tea, why? The server was super rude he took my friends order after she looked through the menu I wanted to keep my menu and order tea or something later in the meal and his whole attitude changed. White table service? No way I work in the industry and can not suggest Smittys after my experience Incase the serving staff reads-I was prepared to leave 20 on the table for allowing me to sit with my friends since I know my dietary restrictions dwindle your sales. But rude service is not okay Three stars for the rest of the wait staff and ambience read more

Smitty's is what fine dinning in Pasadena is all about. Today we will celebrate my wife's birthday here as It was her first choice of restaurants. We have tried the other Smith Brothers restaurants that are very good but this is our favorite! The classics- chicken pot pie, meat loaf, and etc are outstanding. The salads, the hamburgers, the liver and onions, the home made potato chips are all fantastic. Excellent wines, excellent service, and excellent management, is why Smitty's is our favorite place for the last 14 plus years. read more
