Great service, FREE valet parking and delicious food! Bobby was our server and he was just wonderful. So friendly and on top of things! The only downside for me, is they definitely do not have a lot of veggie friendly options. Sides and salads are about it, which is exactly what I ordered but I was very pleased. I ordered their special salad, the Chinese chicken salad. I do not eat chicken, so I asked if they could do avocado instead. He added A LOT of avocado, which was very nice! Salad was so good-I'd definitely order it again! We also got their half and half side, which was only $6 so I assumed it would be pretty tiny. It was the exact opposite. Heaping pile of thin cut fries and thin crispy onion rings/strings. Their iced tea was delicious and very refreshing. I ordered their Arnold Palmer and it was perfect! Great space for a lunch meeting or dinner. They have private rooms as well for large groups. There was a group in there when I arrived that looked like they had a meeting going on. read more

A Pasadena institution. The best homemade potato chips, so make sure to spend some time at the bar.

Very Nice Classy restaurant and great quality food. Every dish that passed by looked delicious and made with LOVE. My regards to the chef and their team. I really recommend this place fellas if you want to impress that special someone. Even the lemonade was fresh and good. They have outside patio and indoor seating. Older crowd and weekdays corporate crowd. It does get a bit packed so make a reservation. Convenient parking lot behind for 90 mins free. read more

Smitty's Grill - Organic chicken! W/ mashed potatoes and spinach. - American Near Me - Pasadena, California

I went to Smitty's for the first time a couple weekends ago, and I was very impressed. My friend had made reservations ahead of time and so we walked right in and a booth was ready for us. We were immediately greeted by our waiter (I think his name was Josh?) Josh was great! Throughout the night, he continuously refilled our drinks and was very willing to help us out when we couldn't decide what to order. I'm super indecisive when it comes to picking food, but he recommended a couple options and I ended up choosing the garlic herb chicken. It was delicious! (It was also ginormous in size, but I'm not complaining... I got to take home leftovers!) The chicken was juicy, and had so much flavor. Along with the chicken, came mashed potatoes and broccolini which were great additions. Also worth mentioning, the bean dip and cornbread are great appetizers. Josh recommended both of them to us and we finished them off! Josh (or whatever his name was- sorry if your name wasn't Josh!) did not steer us wrong with the appetizers, and I'm glad we listened to him. I'm always apprehensive when it comes to ordering sides and extra food, because most of the time it just seems like the waiter or waitress is trying to scam you into buying more food than you could ever eat. However, Josh helped us to figure out what we wanted and he definitely gained our trust with his recommendations. He made it seem like we were his friends and he was just helping a friend out with some solid advice.... (food advice, that is... :)) After the appetizer and main course, we ordered a slice of chocolate cake to split. Josh had told us it's his wife's favorite so we decided to give it a try. The cake did not disappoint (just so you know- I'm a huge chocolate lover, so it is pretty chocolatey.) Overall, we enjoyed Smittys and I will be back! Smittys has a great atmosphere and you can see why so many of the customers are regulars. And maybe next time, I will get a slice of that chocolate cake all to myself. :) read more

I have yet to try a food item I did not like. THE AMBIANCE: Smitty's Grill is a great spot to have lunch/dinner. We normally come here for office lunch meetings. There is valet in the back of the restaurant but you can also park in the street near the front entrance. If you walk in from the valet, you walk on a stone path past an outdoor patio area called the Garden Patio, a separate dining room inside the building called the Grill Room, the restrooms, and the main dining area to reach the hostess stand by the front entrance. There is a small bar next to the hostess stand with some stools. The Garden Patio and the Grill Room are often reserved for private parties, events, and business dinners. Smitty's is definitely an upscale venue, which is apparent by its decor, the waiters/waitress' dress, and the presentation and flavor of the food. THE FOOD: We always order the Iron Skillet Corn Bread ($8.00) as an appetizer. It is legit. It comes out nice and hot, it is a huge portion so you can definitely share, and they give you about four (4) slices of butter. The corn bread has a thick and moist texture. It is delicious. Beware of eating too much of it and getting full! It has happened to me before. In regards to specials, I have tried a salmon on top a bed of pesto pasta and tilapia with roasted squash over creamy lemon sauce. The salmon and pasta was superb! The tilapia was good as well but I definitely liked the salmon special better. I would definitely recommend ordering any special they have. It is sure to be a treat. Off of the regular menu I have tried the Homemade Chicken Pot Pie ($18.00) and the Filet Mignon Burger (Point Reyes Blue Cheese, $18.00). I would never order the pot pie again because when it came out it was the size of a pizza ... haha. Seriously, it is HUGE. Three (3) people can probably share it. I remember thinking it was okay in regards to flavor. The Filet Mignon Burger was good but could have been better. I did like the the caramelization on the bun. I tried the soup of the day, which was a lentil soup. I liked it. As noted, it can get pretty pricey to dine here. Thanks, boss! THE DRINKS: Beer for me. Chimay in a cold goblet please :) #happygirl THE DESSERT: I don't eat nuts or chocolate and almost all of their desserts have nuts and chocolate. Apart from those items I have tried the creme brûlée ($8.00) and mango sherbet ice cream. No complaints. THE TIPS: Come prepared to receive a nice tab but leave with a happy tummy. read more

I love the old fashioned classy atmosphere of high booths and cozy tables. The prices are kind of high, 16 ounce New York bone in, $60. Brussels sprout went back for more cooking. Love the music. Tried the salad with Asian pear, shared it, delightful. Tried the smitty salad with shrimp, shrimp not bay shrimp but medium small, liked the other flavors in the salad. I hear their homemade potato chips are generous and yummy but I have not yet tried them. I went here the day my husband died and it was very comforting- I had their famous fried chicken and a couple glasses of sparkling. I will always have good thoughts about this place!! I recommend this place for special occasions when you are in Pasadena. It is now the place to go after mantises symphony but it does not open until 5 pm. read more

Stopped in last night to grab a drink at the bar, and regretted it immediately. First, the bartender ignored us for at least 10 minutes. No greeting, no napkin in front of us, not even eye contact. He finally acknowledged us and told us he would be right with us and then proceeded to help at least three other customers, all of which had already been served/had drinks. He never came back by or asked what we wanted, so I decided I would confirm with the hostess again if we were actually allowed to sit there and order because we still hadn't been helped (going on twenty minutes at this point). The hostess apologized and asked us what we wanted to drink and eventually a different bartender came over and helped us. Mind you, the original bartender was still ignoring us. We finally got our drinks (two unoriginal Moscow mules for almost $40, not worth it) and then when we asked for our check, the bartender proceeded to help another two customers before finally bringing it to us. It was a terrible experience and I will just say that if you ever come here, don't go to the bar. The bartender was legitimately horrible at his job. Good bartenders should be efficient, friendly, and welcoming and he was none of the above unfortunately. read more

Nice sit down meal. Not a shorts type of place. Beef stroganoff was mouthwatering great. Filling and almost to much for one person but it was sooooo good. Chicken pot pie was a warming of the soul type of good. So good you knew it was created with the best ingredients and made with care. Wine! Choices were great. Lovely Red Zin! Perfect dinner after a golf game. Small 10-12 person bar if your a single business traveler and prefer to sit at the bar chat up the bartender. Nice booths and tables if you rather sit in the dining room. Will return. read more

Had a birthday dinner here last night. Made reservations on OpenTable, and our table was set up nicely when we arrived (included flowers and a card, for the birthday girl). Service was great! Specials were told to us as soon as we sat down. Food was delicious. We had prime rib, which was cooked to our liking. The aged New York, was delicious, and worth the price. The garlic chicken was humongous, and quite filling. Not too dry! Wine, scotch and beer were all delicious. Creme brulee was amazing Free birthday dessert, (brownie and ice cream), was just ok. Valet parking or street parking available. I think of this place as Arroyo Chop houses step child. The comfort / fried food, added to the menu makes this place unique, and worth every penny! read more

Honestly, hearing that this is owned by Arroyo Chophouse got my hopes up but this place was just a bit disappointing. First of all, they squeezed our party of 20 into the side of a small room. It was awkward because it was a birthday party, yet they seated 1 other table in the same room as us. There was clearly space to not push us into a corner, yet we definitely felt cramped. I'd order the cornbread and the beef stroganoff again without a doubt. But everything else I tried seem to lack flavor and seasoning. This included the chicken pot pie, the calamari, and the crab cakes. At least the staff was friendly. They were also efficient, which I appreciated with such a large party and a pretty big birthday cake. It's pretty disappointing that the food seems to not live up to the pricing. I can find better in Pasadena. read more

We been to Smitty's Grill twice this month. Both times has been delicious and Service is great! We made reservations and had no wait upon arriving early. The selection is great, and I appreciate the varied price range. Mostly, the service is outstanding!

I had a lunch meeting here yesterday & it's still good as ever. Smitty's has upscale dining with home style cooking if you've never been. We reserved the back patio area since it's a little quieter, which worked out well. You must try their famous cornbread, to die for! I had the Scottish Salmon & it was pretty good. It was seasoned right, flaky with a little searing crispiness that I love. Everyone at our table was happy with their food from the rib eye steak to the salmon salads. It's a little pricey for lunch, but worth it. They have never disappointed me. TIP: Free valet parking in back read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Pasadena. One of three establishments from the Smith Brothers - see also Parkway Grill and Arroyo Chop House. I have had the chicken pot pie (Burbank Smokehouse style) more times than I can count and only finished it twice. The 'rattlesnake' BBQ sauce has a nice bite that sneaks up on you. This place is terrible and has gone down hill severely yet still charges the prices when it was in its prime. I'll keep it very brief but we had 3 out of 8 people order ribeye and we were served top sirloin. When we asked about it and sent it back, they sent back the same cut of meat. The manager came out and said all their meats are choice and not prime. A ribeye that is $62 needs to be prime. The service was okay. I'll give the benefit of the doubt because we had a large party, however it took an extended period of time to get our food, drinks etc. all of our sides came out cold. Terrible place and really not worth the prices. read more

Last Sunday 10/9 I went to dinner with a party of three. I made last minute reservations. However, when I arrived I was told that we will be seated outside in front of Lake. I was with two handicap senior citizens with walker's. I asked if we could be seated inside due to the breeze being too much for the senior citizens. I was told that there were no seats available, however I saw many empty booths! When we sat down it took almost an hour to get us water! I asked several times! It took almost 2 hours get our dinner. I saw other parties who came after us and received their meal and water way before us. When we received out food our steak was over cooked! Hard as a brick! I'm huge on customer service and I felt as if the other customers were waited on and treated differently due to their race! I saw the waiter go to their table quite often rather than come to us. This was a bummer due to this being my mother and aunt first experience at Smittys. I understand if they were busy but it wasn't that busy! Other customers were served while we waited to even receive water. Huge disappointment! read more

Great place, nice atmosphere, awesome service, and great food. What more could you want in a nice upscale neighborhood restaurant?

Monster chicken pot pie! This thing is huge. I was able to eat the to-go portion at least two more times before I finally finished it. It's not the best tasting in flavor I've had but it's pretty good. It needs black pepper which you can easily add on your own and maybe higher quality mushrooms or broth. Their cornbread was ok. The drinks were great! We dined at the bar and nibbled on some of their house made chips for free. read more

Smitty's is not health food. Eating at Smitty's does not leave you with "the unbearable lightness of being" Kundera wrote so passionately about. Smitty's cuisine makes Gary Busey's acting appear delicate, refined. This is unapologetic, throttle-you-by-your-shirt-collar stuff that, if eaten daily, would whack some serious years off your life span. In short, I love this place. Chicken pot pie has been a consistent standout, and Smitty's doesn't cut corners on poultry quality despite the cartoonishly large portion size of this dish. Crunchy tuna rolls is a delicious starter and probably one of the more 'experimental' items on the menu. Eat the burger if you want something so drippy and delicious that a couple bites into it, you'll need to switch to fork and knife. However, caveat emptor with the fries which are simply too ordinary to warrant any stomach space. Finally, even though all signs indicate the desserts should be tasty, I've always been too full to try anything. I think I'll be back to try this meal in reverse. read more

Great food. Great service. Nice Ambiance. I left satisfied and happy, that shouldn't be a novel concept, but sadly it is. Went here the other night with some friends and it was really good. I've been here once or twice before and I think I ordered the same thing, Sand Dabs, which are excellent - tender, delicate and delicious. They came with perfectly prepared asparagus. YUM! Our server was very attentive, but not intrusive and the super-nice manager Tom came over to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our meal. bonus: they have Bridlewood wine, which is my favorite! We shared a piece of the Double Dark Chocolate Mouse cake, and it was sinfully good. The Smith Brothers sure know how to run a good restaurant: Parkway Grill, Arroyo Chop House, Cheval Blanc, Smitty's Grill. Love them all! read more

Ok..it's Valentines Day & I was hoping to have an "end-all, be-all" dinner but unfortunately, it wasn't =( Let's start off with the order: Diet Coke, Arnold Palmer, Baltimore Crab Cakes, Asian Pear Salad (no blue cheese), Cowboy Ribeye (SPECIAL for V-Day, bone in, medium rare), Petite Filet (charred rare), Creamed Corn, Half & Half (1/2 French Fried Potatoes & Fried Onions), & Hot Fudge Sundae. Here we go with the problems for the evening: 1] Diet Coke became Iced Black Tea: Waitress appologized, took away Iced tea, got the Diet Coke, and again appologized 2] Cowboy Ribeye (Bone In): Upon being seated at our table, the "SPECIALS" were presented. 5 minutes later, the Cowboy Ribeye was thought to be sold out; and 20 seconds later it was confirmed sold out. It wasn't like 10:30pm and late; it was 8:20pm and I would imagine the kitchen didn't prep enough Cowboy Ribeye for the night....eventually, we had to "settle" for a Filet Mignon (charred rare). 3] Asian Pear Salad (no blue cheese) Kitchen's fault, waitress said! Salad never made it to the table for the appetizer portion of the dinner. Very sad! Our entrees came to the table and we had to tell the waitress we had not received our appetizer salad and to cancel it. In turn she said, "You don't still want it...do you?"........ummmhh, our entree's were already on the table =/ 4] Creamed Corn The cream and butter started to seperate as soon as the side dish arrived to the table. We had a little anyways and it tasted ok but the look was very unappealing. We ended up leaving more than 3/4 quarters of it on the table 5] Half & Half (1/2 French Fried Potatoes & Fried Onions) VERY GREASY and oily.....was expecting crisp and light. Even with all these issues, I still gave 3 stars because the taste was somewhat there & I'm biased (& spoiled) with going to their affiliated restaurant, Arroyo Chophouse. I had a great (& maybe unfair) expectation that Smitty's Grill was going to live up to Arroyo....but it was just par. I hope to give Smitty's a 2nd chance someday....maybe it was just busy and the wrong timing! There flavors are why I give them 3 stars but I have higher expectations, especially IF I'm spending Valentines Dinner with my spouse. I hope the wait and kitchen staff can get it together for more than just 1 SPECIAL evening and become consistant every day. read more

All of it were so tasty! Smitty's has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. However, their recent price increases have pushed me over the edge to the point that I will not be dining there as frequently as I used to. My cocktail was just increased by 20% to $18.00. We like to have a couple drinks when we go out to dinner, and this makes a couple rounds of drinks close to $100.00 with tax and tip. Outrageous. I am very well aware of the issues and problems that the restaurant industry has been going through the last couple of years, but the answer is not to increase prices to a point where your patrons need to take out a loan to eat at your restaurant. This is being done disproportionately with the price of alcohol in restaurants, and Smitty's now has the distinction of having the highest priced drink of any restaurant that I regularly dine at. There are more creative ways to increase revenue, and continually raising prices is not one of them. This restaurant and others are going to get to the point where more and more people are going to question the value of going out to dinner, and that is not good for anyone. I will still patronize Smitty's, but not as often as I used to, and when I do, I will definitely modify my cocktail order and quantity. read more

Decided to come in for lunch today at Smitty's! Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed a nice little patio outside! It would've been fun to sit out there but today it's really hot Pasadena. We went inside intermediately greeted by well dressed staff. The restaurant wasn't quite open yet for lunch but they were gracious enough to sit us down. The restaurant has been around for 40 years but somehow they've made the old classic Sinatra feel and the new modern decor come together harmoniously! It looked lively, fun and definitely fit the restaurant. Or server immediately greeted us very warm and friendly, took a beverage order and handed us the menus. The menu definitely covered a wide variety of palettes and appetites. Immediately what caught my eye are the chicken piccata, the crab Louie, and the meatloaf as those are my favorite comfort foods! Instead I decided to order the French dip but not before we ordered the skillet corn bread, which came out super fast and piping hot! (Definitely need to get this!! So good!) I also ordered an iced tea which apparently comes in two flavors passionfruit and regular. Of course, I ordered passionfruit with lots of lemon! Soon after our dishes came out for lunch! My prime rib dip came out beautifully done. I wish they had a Swiss cheese option, but I got cheddar in its place. (For those that like well done prime rib, you should know that it comes out medium rare.) they also did something fun with it, they lined the bottom of each half of sandwich with shredded end cuts to add flavor to the sandwich. The au jus had a hint of Worcestershire in it which was new for me! Along side was a ramekin of creamy horseradish and show string French fries. Overall the sandwich was great, but the bread was a little hard and overdone. The service was great! I would definitely come back! read more

I don't know what this place is like during lunchtime, but for dinner, it has the feel of a stuffy, uppity, old-money, right-wing, old-school dining establishment out of the 50's and 60's. That said, the food is upscale and overpriced for what you get... basic American comfort food... but delicious. We shared a Crunchy Ahi Tuna appetizer that was good, but not sushi restaurant good. For entries, I ordered the Petite Filet Mignon while she ordered the Pot Roast, good but not spectacular. My mashed potatoes were better than her fingerling potatoes, turnips, and baby carrots. I needed a green vegetable with my steak and potatoes, so I ordered a side of asparagus. Drink wise, she ordered a glass of Burgess Merlot that was just ok and not worth the $11 glass it was in... I had an Arnold Palmer that they charged $1 to refill halfway, I mean really, why bother? For dessert, we had two cups of coffee, a hot fudge sundae featuring Fosselman's ice cream, and a chocolate cream pie that came out looking more like a tart when I was expecting more of a pie wedge. Service was excellent, everyone we encountered was polite. Our waiter was patient but attentive, even when we spilled a water glass over the table linen, we were able to move to an adjoining table with a minimum of hassles. The dress code I would say is dressy casual... many of the gentlemen in the restaurant were wearing jackets but I only had a collared shirt and neat jeans... not a problem. Made reservations but none were needed for a Tuesday night. They have valet parking which is convenient especially in Pasadena. I'd love to come back sometime to try their renowned crab cakes or their chicken pot pie but I don't know if I want to pay for all of the a la carte pricing. I would have to admit that the food was delicious and the service was great all around... just a little pricey for what you get. read more

I wanted to go somewhere nice for my birthday today and my husband mentioned Smittys. The food was awesome, we had their well known cornbread and for our entrees my husband had their chicken pot pie and I had their Texas t bone steak with sauteed mushrooms, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The drinks were good also. The reason why I rated this restaurant low was that my husband inquired to the staff while making our reservation over the phone and told the hostess that it was my birthday. Throughout the night I noticed the hostess kept going around to different tables giving out birthday card(s) and flowers to other people who were celebrating their birthdays, but never came to our table. My husband even told me that he mentioned to them, that it was my birthday and he wasn't too happy about that. Another thing was i felt rushed and when I mean by that, is that the hostess kept telling us that there was a reservation at 7pm and if we could be done by then, which ours was at 5pm. I felt rushed and never experienced this before, I understand about making a business a success but what I find rude and unprofessional is to immediately rush your guest when we weren't even seated yet to quickly eat our food. I don't think I will be coming back to this place again. read more

Took way too long for me to get here but the wait was well worth it. Old school vibes with food made to perfection.

We were at the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The service was one of the highlights of the evening both at the table and valet service. The food and drinks were good and a genuinely good time was enjoyed by everyone at the table. You may wonder why the 1 star rating - the wall art in the men's bathroom included four photos of nude, hypersexualized women which I cannot understand. I had two nephew's with me, age's 11 & 14. They both had to use the men's room and undoubtedly saw the photos. In this day and age, I cannot understand why these pictures are being used; they are antiquated and sully the restaurant's otherwise welcoming ambiance and brand. We've called and contacted Smitty's several times and it seems they are unaware of the current times we live in and don't grasp how this objectification feeds into violence against girls & women. It's an agressively ignorant stance about something that's relatively easy to fix. Until it's taken down, my family will go to the myraid of other steak houses to celebrate. read more

Smitty's has always been our go to place to celebrate birthdays with the girls. Went last night :prices are up, portions are way down.
