I loved everything about this place except the coffee(s) i tried. Unfortunately, not my cup of coffee but i still appreciate the beautiful coffee shop. Pretty cool looking spot and would definitely be a neat spot to study or work at. I read that music can get loud but I didn't notice that the day I visited. The interior of this cafe is Everything. Everything. (I may have bumped a star for this..) Funny story, I came here mistakenly thinking that it's a poke place (still confused as to which poke place I confused it with..). So we ended up ordering and sharing their flatbread with arugula and brie and pear. It was delish!! I'm not sure how I feel about the soft pear, though. I prefer my pears crunchy and sweet. But everything else were great! (4/5) Though I believe it came out to be ~$14, so may be 3/5 given the price tag.. I definitely want to return to get coffee and get work done. I don't know what's going on with this place and it's Kirby location but the last few times I have ordered through UberEATS have been terrible. They can't seem to get my order right and I'm only ordering one of their specialty lattes, but there is always something missing. Today I got a caramel macchiato missing both the caramel and vanilla. Cute eclectic coffee shop. Quiet, with a pretty minimal menu of espresso options & coffee. Very appealing large croissants & cookies at the ordering counter. I ordered the caramel macchiato $4.75 it was ok, was not piping hot & the not enough caramel flavor as I like mine a little sweet most people who like caramel want to taste it :) the staff Mel was a little quiet but nice I guess so early in the morning maybe she was a little tired on a Saturday morning. LOL I asked for a butterfly design for my macchiato she said she didn't know how to do designs :( LOL I asked her to just swirl anything a heart or something simple if she could. Kinda the reason I came to try this place out was the cool coffee designs. She did a flower so I appreciate her trying :) over all nice coffee place to hang if you live in the neighborhood & need to quiet place to do some work. Slowpokes is found in a really questionable center with condemned shops around them. Slowpokes itself is very well decorated and well kept. The section they're in offers a patio with wooden furniture and an area for a playground. Great concept. The facility inside is well themed with the play on being slow. Immediately on the walls, you'll see pictures of a Turtle, Sloth and Slug all suggesting to take things slow and steady. The vibe urges you to slow down, sip your coffee, listen to the music and enjoy the atmosphere. There are tables adequate to study and get work done, and also large bench/tables for more of a casual get together. Unfortunately, I was pretty taken back by their prices. A 16 ounce cold brew set me back $4. I also got a latte which was an additional four something. With 2 drinks, we were pushing close to $10. Pretty outrageous. You don't have to get all high and mighty with cold brew's brewing process is different than brewing regular coffee or tell me that the beans are different. But at the end of the day, you're ordering cold coffee. I noticed they had beer and food options as well but I did not order any from their menu. Slowpokes cater towards the young, hip crowd. Craft beer, special brewed coffee, health conscious yet unique options on the menu and the old school decorative equipment is what they're selling you. Besides loving Slowpokes just from the fact that I'm a major nap-loving, lazy slowpoke at heart; this place hits all my major check boxes I look for in a coffee shop. First off, the decor/ambiance is impeccable. You can tell they really but some heart and soul into making this place have a fun/chill vibe. From the adorable turtle/sloth/snail "mascots" decorating the walls to smaller details such as a vintage briefcase holding the coffee condiments, this place has amazing design. In terms of seating, there's larger picnic tables inside, bar seats along the window and along the coffee bar, 2 person tables along another wall-- all with outlet access. Additionally, they have a great outside area with umbrella shaded tables and picnic tables outside-- you can even order through a small window without going inside. The coffee/noms were also delicious: I had an iced coffee and of course had to order the donut grilled cheese after hearing about it from other yelpers-- I was not disappointed! Crispy, cinnamon sugar coated donut cut in half with ooey-gooey sharp cheddar melting everywhere. It was the best! I also found out that they have a pretty decent happy hour too if you feel like switching to beer/wine after getting some work done. Starting at 4pm, they have 5$ glasses of wine, 30% off bottles of wine, 3$ can beers, and 4$ draft beers. While they only have 4 or so taps, they have a good rotating selection, currently serving some good ole local faves: Buffalo Bayou Summer's Wit, 8th Wonder's Brewston, Karbach Staycation and another St. Arnold's seasonal tap. At first I was a bit skeptical because of the area and the fact that google maps kept on saying I was there when I didn't actually see the cafe, but as you can see from this review .. I found it! hahha *If you're using google maps make sure you turn right onto alba road and you'll see it in the complex to your right at the very end* Service (4/5): The staff were nice and attentive. I was really pleased by how fast I got my latte and dish! Ambiance (3/5): R U S T I C V I B E S. My fav! Hehe. They have a good amount of tables (booths, tables, high top tables) to sit at. The booth tables are good for 2 people and the other tables are good for up to 6 people (rough estimate?), so I would say good for coming with a small group of friends/family. They also have a bar seating area. The only concern I had was that I felt it was a bit crammed while walking to and from the counter. Latte (3/5): A little too much milk for my liking, but it was still a well made latte! So sad no latte art ): Chicken pesto panini (4/5): Yummy! I love how this panini came out on a pretzel bun, and the ingredients that were used to make this sandwich blended well with one another. Very flavorful and would recommend if you like Chicken pesto. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. I really liked the ample amount of parking spaces they had when comparing to other coffee shops that have limited parking. For some reason I thought the cafe would be a bit bigger, but it was still a good space inside. We came here by accident, but we were so happy that we ended up at Slowpokes! We were originally planning on going to a poke place for lunch, but we missed a turn because I was such a poor direction-giver. I quickly looked through Yelp for places near by and found "Slowpokes." I thought it was a poke place with a punny name. We walked in and there were no signs of poke around. We decided to just eat here because we were tight on time. They have an amazing selection of food items on their menu. We ordered Chicken Pesto Panino and Salmon Bagel. Both of them were so yummy! Chicken Pesto Panino had this amazing bread - we think it was pretzel bread. Chicken was soft and not dry. There were fresh mozzarella and arugula in the sandwich with flavorful pesto. The bagel had generous amount of smoked salmon with red onion, cucumber, and capers! We were so satisfied with our food. Their coffee was even more amazing. I ordered Lavender Latte and my friend ordered Salted Caramel Latte. When I took my first sip of the latte, it was so smooth and rich! They were also not too sweet, which I loved. Which is why everyone with a computer is sitting in the booths. Try to sit at the bar they need a foot rest because the barstools are so tall and if you're short you will fall off. The black metal chairs they have, have arms on them so if you are overweight you don't fit. With Houston having such a wide selection of coffee shops that each offer fairly close to the same options of coffee, beer and snacks the competition is fierce. I didn't feel that anything we had here was bad just average and a little pricey for what you get. The coffee 3: Fairly average coffee although like most said a little on the bitter side. Went with an iced chai and chocolate mocha both came out ok but with a bit more ice than anticipated. The food 3: To be fair all I tried was the special chocolate potato chip cookie. It as ok but I prefer a chewy bigger cookie especially for 3+. The atmosphere 5: The space itself is layed out well and has a huge patio area for relaxing or bringing the kids. They offer window service and or indoor if you want to enjoy a bit more quiet to study or just relax. read more

So freakin good!! The bun is this magical pretzel panini type of goodness! Even has little salt sprinkles on top. Chicken tastes fresh, it's tender and juicy. Arugula is crunchy and great flavor. Pesto is on point. Fresh chunks of real mozzarella! $9 is a perfect price for what you get! Cool looking place inside, nice patio/outdoor area (appears to be dog friendly). Inside and outside are both really nice spots to hang out. Good for small-medium groups to get together. An interesting range of music jamming inside. Super chill atmosphere. Driving up to Slowpokes, you can't help but wonder, "Is this a 4 star establishment?" Then you walk in and are greeted with the Burger King's overwhelming grin (mask behind the bar) and a small but perfect menu. The Carmel Macchiato is the best. The Gorgonzola + Salami Panini is the best I've had so far. I was pleased with the pretzel bread I used as it was tough and overly chewy like many I've tried before. My daughter is lactose-intolerant with nut & soy allergies but luckily they had coconut milk so she was able to order a lavender latte which she enjoyed immensely. Brief review- can't wait until they reach their full potential. Soft opening tonight was great. Friendly faces and atmosphere. Working on their outdoor area permits at the moment, but a great concept to come! -- A space specifically designated for traveling food trucks, gravel paved for our shoe stomping pleasure, and a a tucked away nook situated just-so for us lonesome smokers and outdoorsy types. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food menu is minimal at the moment, but it gets your tastebuds aroused. Grilled cheese doughnut is a gem I did not have the pleasure of consuming tonight as I got here too late for their kitchen service. I am not one for coffee late-night, but this place is sure to please the night owls soon enough. I saw some bags of their blends on a small shelf next to a cooler of some libations of the non alcoholic sort like coconut water and juices. Can't wait to see them take off! Enjoyed my quiet night and will be back again and again. Honorable mention: There are insulated mugs for your temperature-controlled beverage pleasures. I visited Slowpokes on Sunday at around brunch hour with a friend. We were super excited to visit. It had been on my list of coffee shops to visit. It's a cute and quaint neighborhood coffee shop. Good vibes, limited seating. I got my usual basic coffee, iced vanilla latte with oatmilk and cinnamon on top. The coffee was delicious and the perfect shade. We also ordered 2 croissants that looked irresistable. It was to my understanding that the baked goods were cooked that morning. However, that did not seem like the case. After spending a total of $25 for 2 small coffees and 2 croissants I really thought we'd be enjoying soft delicate crossaints. But no, they were hard and felt like they had been there for a week, both the dark chocolate one and butter. I couldn't believe how tough they were given the price. Especially since it was just a croissant and not a breakfast sandwhich..Really wish they would've came out good, because we left with upset tummies since all we had was coffee thanks to the failed croissants. Other than that, good customer service and nice artsy bathrooms. Just be careful with the overpriced baked goods.. I'd only go back for a coffee after my experience. The theme of this cafe is very cute! I ordered a vanilla mocha and it was good! The place is a moderate size with a moderate noise level, so I would recommend as a good place to study. I would say for studying purposes, I wish the tables were a bit bigger, and it had more lighting. The area is right next to Levy park, and parking can get tricky. I've gotten lucky the two times I went, but I can see how parking may be difficult. Would visit again! read more

Nice interior design and artwork. The food really wasn't all that great for me. As much as I'd like to give this place a high star, I was disappointed with my little puff, coffee and the price. I don't think my empanada was worth $4, only because I've gone to places that served the same exact thing for half the price and in higher end areas. The coffee (close to $6 for large) was also very bitter, vanilla lattes are my go too drink so there's usually no issues w/the flavoring. Over all spent a little over $10 for two items. Aside from the place looking awesome, there's really nothing else within the plaza worth looking into. We were going to stop by insomnia since it is nearby but they're moving so that was a bust. There wasn't a lot of people (two couples) there, so it's a nice hangout because you have the whole place to yourself. Out of the two hand pies my favorite was the beef one, although both were excellent. I also must comment on the pie dough it was light and fluffy. The staff was very friendly and open for suggestions. They also had half priced baked goods from yesterday which is a nice concept. the also have some hot teas that I will definitely be trying. I was between 3 and 4 stars here. On one hand, this place is a godsend for anyone who cannot work from home in isolation anymore, the atmosphere, long tables and generally quiet cafe buzz is perfect. Even the music was conducive to working. On the other hand, the wifi didn't work for me and the staff sort of shrugged and weren't particularly helpful (I ended up using my phone's hotspot all day). The food and coffee are pricier than I would have liked. Also their yelp page makes it seem like there's an outback patio, but that's not the case - at least not at this location. read more
