My boyfriend came across this place on Yelp and we decided to try it. This place is so neat and cute. It's an awesome place to study/work. There were a lot of people with their laptops. I got the breakfast bagel which was so good! Very cheesy I also ordered a blueberry muffin- it was so moist and soft! The top had the perfect crust! Next, I ordered the iced caramel macchiato! Strong but still good. My boyfriend ordered an iced mocha coffee. The flavor was there but it was super strong. We did add a bit of sugar and it was 100% better. They also sell alcohol! Slowpokes has some delicious coffee and is a great space to do working. I would recommend trying any of their seasonal coffee drinks as they make all of their syrups in house and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. We have been Slowpokes patrons since the original opened years ago. We mostly have breakfast there, but sometimes will grab a sandwich for lunch. The quality of the staff has declined over the years - the front of house staff used to be a consistent set of people who were friendly, got to know us and always happy to be there. Now the staff seems to change often and they don't seem invested in offering friendly service. I know that staffing is hard during this time and I can give that a pass. What I find frustrating is the the portion sizes, especially for sandwiches, has decreased noticeably while the prices have increased. I get that inflation is tough, but pick a lane, decrease sandwich size OR raise prices, not both. Feels manipulative. read more

First time coming here. Neat little place with a nice atmosphere. Wasn't impressed with the amount of tea I actually got for what I paid. I ordered the house iced tea to go. When I got the tea I realized the cup was packed full of ice. When I got home I drained it into another bottle because I didn't want my tea to get water down from the ice melting. There is plenty of seating - from small booths to large tables. And outlets abound for those looking for a space to work. Plus they have a GREAT music selection. The menu features a wide variety of drinks and lunch/snack options. Drinks - Great coffee and flavorful/interesting ice teas! They have several local beers on tap and a pretty extensive wine list. Food - The charcuterie is a MUST but bring a friend to share. The board features a few meats and cheeses from the local Dairy Maids. It's super affordable too. The sandwiches are really good and I love the pretzel rolls. I've tried the small hand-pies and didn't love them - they were a bit pricey for the amount of food. I would opt for a sandwich instead. Desserts - If you haven't tried Fluff Bake Bar's "Couch Potato" cookie you haven't lived. Featuring potato chips, chocolate chips, and gooey caramel, this cookie has just the right level of sweetness and ingredients that make every bite interesting. Funny story: my friend and I came in here thinking it was a poke restaurant! Haha. But we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of coffee, food and art here. We were glad to have made the stop, even if it was by accident. Surprisingly, Slowpoke's has a pretty extensive menu for being a coffeeshop. Enough options for us to take a few minutes to make our selections. We went with a salmon bagel and the chicken pesto mozzarella sandwich, with a side of lavender and salted caramel latte. Both the bagel and the sandwich were phenomenal!!! Best food at a coffeeshop for sure, the bread itself was off the hook. So flavorful and the chicken was wonderfully cooked. You can't go wrong ordering either one of these. The coffee was lovely. Not sweet and very smooth. Fun latte art, props to the barista. Came here on a Saturday mid-day/afternoon to relax with a friend and grab some drinks. One thing to note is that if you're coming from Ella, this place is hard to spot. It's located at the very end of a strip center near the neighborhood so you can't really see any signage from the road. However, they did have a small sign on the curb that I was fortunate to see and I had my GPS on, so luckily I didn't pass it up but my friend did. They are the only business in the strip center currently so there's ample parking. When you walk in, you order at the counter and then sit wherever you want. The ambiance was very cute and felt cozy, like a place you could spend an afternoon studying or reading a book. The one thing I was surprised about was they didn't have any tables blocked off for social distancing and some of the tables are way too close together. Most customers were good about spacing out on their own, however. Food: I ordered a mimosa and a breakfast taco. If you want cheese, avocado or bacon on your taco, it's an extra 50 cents each and I opted to add all 3. When my food was ready, they brought my taco over but I still didn't have my mimosa so I went up to the counter to ask about it and the lady said no one told her a mimosa was ordered. So she promptly made my mimosa and I went back to the table to eat my taco. The taco comes with pico and green sauce on the side which was tasty. The taco itself was also good but I was left wondering where the bacon was - there was hardly any in there! I guess they chop it up and throw some in the egg but you can tell from my photo it was scarce. So don't expect an entire strip of bacon in your tacos. Despite the lack of bacon, the taco was very good. Overall I'd definitely see myself coming back here whether alone for some quiet time or just to catch up with friends. read more

The baristas genuinely care about and enjoy the work and that says so much about the establishment. I come here at least once a month (I don't live nearby so it's a treat yourself thing for me). Now for my only complaint, which doesn't seem a huge deal but all I drink is chai so it's a bit of a hindrance for me - they changed their chai about a year ago, give or take. I'm a regular at Slowpokes Garden Oaks. I absolutely love this spot for their staff, coffee, food, & creative decor. Phil & Aaron are awesome- they'll remember your name and your coffee order after just a few visits. I have ordered almost everything on the menu at some point, there's not anything I haven't enjoyed. My go-tos are the breakfast bagel and the breakfast tacos (make sure and get the cilantro cream and pico on the side!) oh & don't skip the pumpkin muffin if they have it- yum! It's a great spot to get some work done too. Someone said it was comical how empty it was here? I've spent hours sitting in this coffee shop and believe me this place gets packed regularly. I've come with girl friends, my husband, but my two daughters (1 & 2) the most and I haven't once had a bad experience. Wonderful play area outside to let the Little's burn off some energy and cozy bar inside to enjoy an adult beverage. I've never tried an item on the food menu I didn't like. Are you hipster but still enjoy the slow paced life? This is the place for you! With it's adorable turtle and sloth decorations, they truly stick to their "slowpokes" theme. They sell coffee, teas, and beers, but it is kind of pricey for what is was (around $4/cup). This is starting to become an average price however, so I guess it's competitive. They have a nice area to study with plenty of outlets near the booths against the wall. They also have free wifi which makes it easy for guests to log in and study there while drinking coffee. Inside, it does look nicer and more hipster than the outside looks. When you're driving to it, you'll notice that it's in a pretty sketchy and under developed neighborhood, but when you walk inside, it's a completely different atmosphere. It was a cute place. Would I go again, maybe if I'm in the area. If you're a huge turtle or sloth fan, I think you would really enjoy the place because it's adorable. read more

I loves me a slowpoke! Not in real life, and certainly not in driving. But just this quaint coffee shop. I've been here a handful of times but only now putting up a review. First off the location is in a sorta dingy shopping strip with barred up convenience stores and whatnot. Just follow the yellow umbrellas and the cluster of cars on the far end. They have a huge sandy patio area too. The atmosphere immediately changes inside. The decor is kitchsy and they weren't kidding loving all things slow. You'll find the slowest living things splashed all over the walls, from turtles, to sloths and snails. Even their counter is a pattern of snail shells. It's not only a coffeehouse but has a full cafe menu too. A tasty one at that. So in most coffee shops, there's a sense that every person is in his/her own cocoon. This is much more laid back and you actually hear conversation and chatter. No upturned pinkies here, which is my cup of tea, er, coffee. My first time there I luckily ran into the chef and she recommended some of the empanada (pocket pies) flavors. She was right! The one with ground beef and potatoes was finger licking good. In fact, I don't think you can go wrong with any flavor. The crust is light and flaky and not greasy at all. They have plenty veggie options too. Now to the star- the coffee. So far I've been getting either the caramel macchiato or the cappuccino. They may have the best milk foam in the game. It's so creamy it just blends into the coffee seamlessly. It's not too frothy where it just pops away like a bubble bath. It's smooth without any milky odor. It's more like a cream, y'all. Even the lactose intolerant should give it a whirl. As for the coffee, I'm an avid Vietnamese iced coffee drinker so it's on the soft biceps side for me, but still a good mild brew. And the caramel has a toasty, buttery, brown sugar taste. Such a delicious way to raise your blood pressure. The staff is great. The girl at the cashier is way cool and friendly. The baristas will usually sweetly manage a half smile which I am grateful for. Just glad to not be looking up their noses. The menu is fantastic. Lately I just pick up and go but I'll be back one day to just relax and chow down.
