My first experience at Skytown was great. Good Service, good food. Loved the atmosphere. Every experience since has gone downhill. The service sucks, the waiters (especially the guys) think they're soo cool. They act as if they're doing you a favor by serving you. They kind of forget its a job and go about talking to other staff members about "jamming" for 15 minutes. They also messed up my order on two occasions. Not worth the time or money. read more

I've been visiting the neighborhood for a couple weeks, and have been going to work in here for a few days because it was the closest place I could find with wifi. Also the breakfast is really good. The food and wifi are worth two stars. Minus 3 stars for the absolute obnoxiousness of the staff and patrons. Agree with someone else who said Skytown completely alienates everyone else who actually lives in this working class neighborhood. It doesn't make any attempt to fit in, charges 3+ times more for breakfast than anywhere else on the strip, and it feels like all the white people around are actually hiding inside. It's like it's their safe space where they can try to one-up each other with who has the more outrageous outfit, or who can whine more loudly about their fresh-out-of-college drama or latest hardship in the blogosphere. I actually overhead someone who works there, say to someone on the street "you should totally hang out in here, it's the only normal bar in the neighborhood." Then some jackass with a wicked curly mustache walked out, and the lack of self awareness in the air was almost suffocating. My boyfriend pointed out that I'd been loving the neighborhood and enjoying our trip here until I started hanging out at Skytown every morning, and I realized he's right. I started feeling like these little buggers were all over the place, and my hater alarms have been going off like crazy. This place just opened and looks very cool on the inside. A great mix of Cafe / Bar / Food. The menu is a good mix of breakfast and sandwiches, with a mini menu of bar snacks. Friendly staff from what I can tell on my first visit. I got the salad with feta / green beans / avocado and raspberries. It's good! I am looking forward to trying more of the menu. Pertinent info: I believe the bartender said they open at 8am. Came on a late night so it wasn't many options on the menu. I had the chicken empanada, pork empanada and bbq wings. Where do I begin.... I would definitely recommend the chicken empanada it was good and flavorful. That's where my positivity ends. Everything else was horrible. Especially the wings. I had walked past this place numerous times and had been looking forward to trying it for so long. I'm not one for writing reviews but had to say something about my experience in here. Upon walking in, I loved the ambiance of the place and the food/drink menu looked great. Ended up getting two cocktails at the bar which were pretty good too. However, the attitude of the little blonde girl was beyond me. I am bewildered how some people end up getting jobs in the bar/restaurant industry. Aren't they meant to be courteous to their patrons? There was a dirty look from her the moment myself and my girlfriend walked in. No hello when we sat down. When we ordered our drinks, they were more or less slid across the bar to us. When we went to check out we handed a credit card to her which was slammed down on the bar to be returned to us. I can understand bar and restaurant staff being under pressure but the place was not busy so no excuse. As good as the drinks were, and as good as the menu looks, the level of service is what will be remembered in any establishment. In what I received tonight from this awful person, I don't think I'll ever return. If I were an owner reading this i really would reconsider hiring this person. So I journeyed into Bushwick last night to meet friends at Skytown. I must say I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't what I was expecting - super cute inside! My friends come here every week so they are friends with the bar tenders which is always a nice advantage. Before 10pm free shot with a beer! Pretty cool right? So much tequila.. haha Anyway, I am also a big fan of Killians so I was pleased they had it on tap. :) No cider unfortunately but hey can't win em all. Pretty funny story for you - I got locked in the bathroom. Yep, stuck, right about the time they turned the music up so of course no one can hear me. Luckily someone was waiting for the bathroom and they let them know I was stuck. haha Everyone kept asking me if the door was unlocked - uhhh ya, I'm not that dumb!? haha Luckily they got me out :) It was pretty funny. The bartender was nice enough to give us free shots for my "traumatic" experience. The only bummer of the evening was that my friend got her phone snatched. I ordered personal omelette with 3 fillings by choice (tomatoes, onions and avocado) with tasty home fries and crispy buttered toast. The omelette was slightly over-cooked, but still taste good. Skytown - New American Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Any establishment with indie music playing and a presence of 20 something's is going to get hate on Yelp. Apparently hipster attire and tattoos automatically means one is "trying to hard." Personally, I think Skytown tries just enough. Walking in, the first thing I noticed is a humble- looking wood paneled LaMarzocco espresso machine. I forget the roaster name, but my snooty-tooty barista/roaster/espresso freak friend nodded in approval. Good coffee, check. Scanning the bar I eye some pretty appealing drink specials and home- made ginger ale (or was it ginger beer? What's the difference?). I had a sip of my friend's cocktail, and though I don't remember what it was, I wasn't disappointed. Another check. The menu is modest, but well put together. Selections rotate on what I assume to be a seasonal basis. I've tried the skyburger (veggie or turkey), mushroom sand which, bacon sandwhich, spare ribs, some dumpling soup, egg sandwhich, an omelette, zucchini bread french toast, and a couple salads. Everything I've had was perfectly portioned, presented nicely, and delicious. Tasty grub, check. The seating area is spacious and casual; an awesome spot for a meal or just to hunker down and get some reading/writing/drawing/watching cat videos on YouTube-ing in. The music varies on who's working, sometimes it's not the vibe I'm in the mood for (c'est la vie) but usually on point. I haven't seen any of these "annoying, trying too hard" clientele some of the haters mention. Atmosphere, check. The staff is friendly and down to earth- not over-the-top fake nice. People are people and if you engage in conversation your kindness and humor will be reciprocated. But don't be shocked when your "EW OMIGOD HIPSTERS" scowl is greeted with a flat affect. You get what you give- bartenders aren't robots. I've had some great laughs here. Good service, check. Now, there are two slight pitfalls I gotta point out: 1. You will walk out smelling like a kitchen. Embrace it. It's a reminder of the awesome meal you just had. 2. My experiences with pick- up orders are a little ehhh; every time something was off, whether it be they forgot the topping on my burger or sandwhich (I was never charged for it though) or my bag was missing cutlery. The overall taste wasn't affected, but this is an area that could use improvement. All in all, Skytown is a winner in my book. I would encourage anyone to check it out day and night because there are different vibes depending on the time of day. And leave your judgey 'tude out on broadway. read more

Skytown is a super casual Bushwick spot located under the J/M train tracks. Wait staff is very laid back and not super attentive but I prefer it that way. I've only been here for brunch but keep coming back because the breakfast sandwich is literally out of this world. They basically put a full avocado on it for you. The caramelized onions are to die for. The bun is ever so slightly crisp. The morning burger is also phenomenal despite being a bit messy. I want to keep this a secret spot but also don't want it to close for lack of business because I would be heartbroken. read more

This place has the best veggie burger I may have ever had. I'm not even a vegetarian. It's a cute little bar and close enough to my apartment. The vibe is really relaxed and they have free wifi. People come during the day with laptops to work on stuff and have some good food. They have a few beers on tap and a good selection of hard alcohol. They have a few speciality drinks which I have yet to try but they all look tasty. My one and only problem with this place is that 4/5 times I've been there they have been blasting music to a point where it's hard to talk to your friends. This is even during the day when there are people trying to do work on their computers (which I don't know how they can concentrate). I went at night recently and I was surprised that the music was even louder. I was so tired at the end of the night trying to yell over the music just to talk to my friend sitting opposite from me. The bar is really good is most every other aspect and I will always go back (seriously that veggie burger is amazing), it's just the choice of music volume is not for me. read more

Healthiest most delicious late nite (3am) menu in Bushwick. Had the hummus platter and steak sandwich, both excellent. Hummus platter came with +/- one whole delicious homemade roasted red pepper. Olives could have been pitted but it's not worth knocking stars off. Pitas were tasty and warm, hummus was great and plentiful. Steak sandwich was incredible- also comes in pita bread. I can't attest to the food - I haven't eaten here yet but the customer service is on point. The only reason you're going to have to wait for anything is because the bartender is being nice to someone else. Just relax for a sec! You'll get your turn and it comes with a genuine smile and some friendly banter, worth an extra minute or two if you ask me. If you're judgey, high maintenance or generally a grump you'll hate it here. I'm none of those things (only moderately grumpy on occasion) and I like this place a lot - a lot, a lot. I like it enough that I go a few times a week (by "a few" I mean 5 ish but I swear I'm not a lush!) Came to this restaurant because we know the owners from a prior restaurant, and I'm glad we did! We went for brunch on a Saturday and the place was pretty quiet, but had some great music playing and it was the perfect atmosphere for a lazy Saturday in Brooklyn. Our bartender was awesome! We started chit chatting about music and playing various artists for the patrons because of the conversations. No one seemed to mind at all! We did the brunch special where you get a drink with it. I had the morning burger (with a veggie burger patty) with a salad while my husband had a customized omelet. Both meals were amazing! People say service is a little spotty here, and sometimes it is (i.e. it takes a little while when they're slammed). For the most part, however, skytown is killing all day and all night. Cocktails are super cheap, there's some really good liquor on the shelf, and the food is fantastic. Best part of all? Everything is super cheap! I ate dinner here last night and half way through my meal i had a moment where i realized that i had only paid $10 for the wholesome, filling plate of food in front of me. Very rude bartender as soon as I walked in asked for a menu she completely Ignored us and continued to stare like we interrupted her conversation. As we walked to a table to observe the menu she continued and to stare at us from the bar and roll her eyes. She has two pig tails. Happy I finally got a chance to try this place. Decided to pop in for brunch. If you order mixed drinks they are tiny. The trumpet playing guy plays like he taught himself or is drunk. But the waiter was really nice. The atmosphere is roomy. And the food is delicious! I got the zucchini French toast. Very good. Very sweet. Have only been here for the dranx and wifi. Night-time gin cocktails are bomb, but pass on the bloodies. I love that it doesn't get too crowded, which makes up for the ditzy baristas who are probably still drunk from the night before (hey, we've all been there). Really cute little sandwich shop slash bar in a neighborhood where there really isn't anywhere else to sit down to eat or drink. On a recent lunchtime visit, there were the standard young Brooklyn freelancers posted up with laptops and coffee, and a grungy cyclist knocking back a whiskey straight and a Naragansett. My sandwich was really good but they were out of their house-made kombucha! So I had some ginger ale, which was a nice hangover cure. The barmaid was sweet and attentive. Probably fun at night.
