I was predisposed to love this place. It has a welcoming, yet somewhat hidden vibe. It's got a layout that seems familiar, but it's still a bit surprising. It has a lovely backyard and spacious dining room for what at first glance seems like a hole in the wall. I'd stopped in once before and ate outside on a sunny day for just drinks. This time I came with my family for a quick dinner. We sat in the cosy dining room and were served by the owner, a friendly and humble gentleman who insisted we come back when we stopped by in the summer. To our delight, he remembered us! I ordered the lamb ragou pappardelle and my family split an order of fries. I found my dish to be surprisingly hearty, with a rich sauce that wasn't too heavy. The al dente pasta graced with a dollop of ricotta and fresh basil created a balanced dish that wanted neither salt nor pepper, and could be enjoyed as is. It warmed me thoroughly on the coldest December evening of the year. This place is a hidden gem that could use some local love. It's right close to my barber so I definitely will be back. read more

I've been here once before for a drink and decided to come back here for dinner recently since it's right in my neighborhood. It's actually much larger in the back than I realized. Overall the food was pretty good; we shared a peach caprese salad and the gambas appetizer which were both delicious. I ordered the brisket which was also pretty flavorful and tender. All the food was also presented very artfully which caught me a bit by surprise. When we first arrived it was pretty empty so the server gave us a lot of attention, filling our glasses every couple minutes; however once more people arrived, it became very difficult to flag down the server for more water and the check, which took us probably almost 20 minutes of actively trying to wave him down. read more

First I'll start with the staff. Super friendly and accommodating and the bartender kept everyone at the bar entertained and engaged in conversation. I went for happy hour. The Italian Spritz was strong and tasted great. Truffle fries were amazing. The oysters were a bit gritty and on the smaller side but the mignonette sauce was a great addition. I decided to order the skirt steak as well. The steak was cooked perfectly, well seasoned. The same for the green beans. I wasn't a big fan of the texture of the mashed potatoes but alongside the green beans, it worked. read more

The service is the first thing you'll notice at Korkscrew- you feel genuinely welcomed and wanted! The food is delicious - so fresh, so well executed, with interesting and new combinations. Brunch and dinner are top notch! While they don't yet have their liquor license, the wine selection is wonderful and the owner is happy to recommend, which I always love. And you wouldn't know they didn't have a liquor license because the wine based cocktails are so yum! The bar is the type you could sit at forever. And the back room/dining area is bright and lovely. For a somewhat limited menu, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I ordered a vegetarian burger and it was actually quite meaty in texture and flavorful through and through. One of the better vegetarian burgers I've had. The portions are huge--I felt like I was eating for an hour straight. It's a large space and generally pretty empty when I went, so you should have no problem getting a table. Wow! I am absolutely blown away by this lovely restaurant. It's tucked away on a well-known street, in a well-known location in Brooklyn but in an area where there isn't much activity going on in terms of businesses. With that being said, I love how low-key it is. Based on this, no one would know that they have absolutely delicious food, which means a lot considering that there were four people in our party and everyone devoured their food and throughly enjoyed it as well. I had the chicken and waffles and the chicken was perfectly seasoned and textured. Even the fruit that came with the meal was fresh and the perfect portion. Another thing I liked about the restaurant was that there was something on the menu for everyone and those in our party who preferred healthier options were able to seamlessly order something for themselves. Our waiter was attentive, quick, and patient. The restaurant owner/manager greeted us in a friendly and professional manner when we arrived and when we left. It feels like the goal of the restaurant was to make sure everyone was good at all times, as in, they were big on service. I also loved the ambiance of the place because they have a nice little bar in the front and several tables in a much larger area in the back. Plus, the restroom was clean, comfortable and had warm water AND soap available. The restaurant overall felt homey and cozy. If I lived closer, I'd be a regular there. My wife and I found this place on out date night. It is like stepping into a wine bistro in europe. We fell in love with the decor. The owner took care of us. He was extremely nice and has an extreme knowledge of wine. He blew is away with his wine background. He paired our wine perfectly with our meals. I had the Pan seared red snapper turmeric cauliflower puree. Which was out of this world. My wife had the beet salad which was so fresh and delicious. This is our new go to date nite spot! It's hard to review this place. When we walked in everyone was friendly and seemed happy to see us until we met our waiter who had no personality at all!!! He did not introduce himself, was very militant, we tried to order a soup after the appetizers were entered and he indirectly told us that it could not or should not be done. We also heard: 'I already told you' or 'like I said before' responses to any questions that were asked more than once. Thankfully the food was good. Starting with spacious dining room perfect for small AND large parties, to amazing service by Chris himself, to the wine list that feels more curated than at a wine bar, to ambiance and sophisticated music playlist, and of course The kitchen! I truly don't understand why you can still just walk-in and not wait on reservation for weeks. Freshest oysters, tuna tostada that's enough for two to share and is just perfectly made, steak frites and chicken were the superb quality meat and delicious, with freshly cut shoestring fries, and then the creme brûlée that took my soul to heaven!
