First time at The Commodore and we thought Labor Day afternoon at 4pm, how many guests could there possibly be if we showed up at 3:45pm? Well, to our surprise, a crowd was already gathered outside so that was a great sign of a great spot. We were there for their well-known fried chicken, great bar drinks and super relaxing Williamsburg bar vibes. This spot is bigger than it seems from the outside. Multiple areas including the bar, indoor booths, tables and outdoor seating as well. The Commodore definitely catered to everyone's desire. We sat at the bar but note, The Commodore is self-sitting meaning order drinks and food at the bar, keep tab open or close tab immediately and you get your drink right away, but they do serve your food to your table. The staff is genuinely nice and service is very professional. Located right near BQE and Metropolitan, this area is relatively easy for parking especially on Sunday and or holiday. read more

Came here around 6pm, and I originally wanted to sit outdoors because I had a two year old with me, but all tables were claimed and inside was practically empty! Later, I noticed they began checking IDs, but we made it just in time. It filled up quick as we ended our dinner around 7:30. We chose the Commodore because I was craving their fried chicken. In my younger days, I frequented here often. It's somewhat like I remembered it but with outdoor seating. Self-service, order at the bar. The fried chicken is still yummy. Unlike my younger days, I branched out to the black-eye bean soup, which was pretty tasty and makes it a better-balanced meal. Wow! The Commodore is hittin!' A friend told me about The Commodore a year ago and I finally made it and glad I did. You would do well to arrive earlier that 8PM on a Friday to find a place to sit. I managed to catch a seat at the far side of the bar in the corner after several people departed. There is seating out on the sidewalk and the bouncer will ask for your ID, which, at my age, is a compliment and I am happt to show my ID. It's a busy place with a great playlist. The energy on a Friday eve is quite tangible and palpable. The bartenders are busy until the surge subsided around 9PM. Note: they are making frozen cocktails with their Vitamix. Here's a place where you can really chill during the hot summers and I have my mind on a frozen spicy marg next time I am here and there will be a next time. The young lady took my beer order and food order for the Chicken Plate and the Wedge Salad. They have a small selection of beers on tap, probably about five or six from what I saw. My friend who told me about The Commodore was more emphatic about the food here and now I understand why. The wedge salad was fresh and with all the blue cheese dressing and crumbled bacon to satisfy your cravings. A hard boiled egg sliced in half and plenty of cracked black pepper amp this salad up. I devoured it all and it worked well with the chicken plate, comprised of three chicken thighs fried to an ultra-crisp, served with three small biscuits and three ramekins of hot sauce, chili oil saut, and I believe melted butter for the biscuits. I never tasted that ramekin. You might think the hot sauce is go to, but check out that chili oil sauce with its mix of heat and sweet. That's your go to sauce for this crispy chicken. The chicken may not be as seasoned as one would find with soul food or southern kitchens, but it more than makes up for it with that audible crispiness. The three chicken thighs are huge and quite satisfying. It was all so good that I ordered a chicken plate to go! I can well understand why my friend gives The Commodore a high rec and so do I. I should be here on the regular and that salad and chicken plate, with a few frozen spicy margs or whatever is your pleasure, will be in repeat. Great with friends or your girl on a date if she can catch this vibe. The people working behind the bar are working hard and they do so with a great attitude. Tip them well. Don't judge a book by it's outside cover and it's funky hipster vibe inside, and don't sleep on the fried chicken here as it's one of the best I've had. Juicy, crispy, large portion and so flavorful. The fried chicken plate came with some hot sauces, and honey butter to slather on the mini biscuits it arrived with. I dream about this fried chicken. Yum. Don't even ask how we found this place as we were at Duff's metal bar and after a night of metal tunes and drinks and we just walked around looking for a spot serving late night eats. I think it was no more than a 15 minute walk in our buzzed stupor. Unfortunately, it was a shame that we were not able to enjoy much of this spot's charm due to some kind of an ID rule and my friend did not have it on her. But I was able to go in and look around briefly and sure liked what I saw! Music was good, crowd looked eclectic with cool clothes and vibe as well. I got dinner here last night with my favorite food creator and big bro, Rob Martinez. I'd never been to the Commodore, but when he suggested it, I accepted without a blink. A Rob recommendation is literal pixie dust. I entered 8 minutes before our scheduled time because my pops always told me "if you're on time, you're late." I entered and saw a 6'2 burly figure with a worn in nike hat and legendary beard sipping on a Negroni, and realized Rob beat me here. Damn... Negroni on a Monday is so beast though. We got a little booth in the corner, and I decided to hop on the Negroni train. I normally don't drink during the week, but sometimes the Negroni gods just force your hand. My nickname in college was actually "Post Negrone." Rob informed me that the hot chicken sandwich ($19) was the move, which checked out with my research from before dinner. I never really stop and smell the roses, as comfort is the enemy of progress, but sitting in this dimly lit dive bar sipping negronis with one of the best food creators on the internet, and someone I really look up to, forced me to have a moment of appreciation. Between bites of one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I have ever had in my life, we were talking about writing, editing, our favorite restaurants, youtube thumbnails, algorithms, favorite authors, upcoming shoot schedules, and lofty long term goals that really had me pinching myself. It's been a minute since I've visited the Commodore. I mostly remembered the excellent food and their kitchen still delivers after all these years. We were a small group of 3 and each ordered a chicken plate (3pc) with a side of Mac n cheese and a salad for health. The fried chicken is amazing and crunchy and juicy and tender and even more delicious with a slab of their honey butter. The best. Such high hopes... such a letdown. I was genuinely excited to finally try The Commodore, but unfortunately it missed the mark in a big way. Let's start with the positives: the ambiance is great. It's divy with a touch of chic, and the drinks are actually very good. And... that's where the praise ends. The service was downright frustrating. We planned to grab drinks and fries at the bar, but only one of us could sit because a dog was occupying an entire bar chair. I love dogs. I have a dog. But a dog sitting on a chair at a bar where people are eating? Hard no. As a paying customer, I shouldn't be competing with someone's pet for seating. This should have been addressed immediately by the bartender, but it wasn't. Speaking of bartenders; they seemed far more interested in chatting with each other than acknowledging customers. Long stretches of being ignored made the experience feel unwelcoming and sloppy. It's a shame, because the space and drinks have potential. Unfortunately, poor service and lack of basic awareness completely overshadow it. Came here in the afternoon just as the kitchen was closing. Debated for a bit and ultimately decided to stay because I'll not be denied of my chicken sandwich lol. Started off with the Orange Julio, as if it's the grownup Orange Julius. Two sips in and immediate brain freeze. The vibe is a bit chaotic but the bartenders did a great job making sure everyone is well-hydrated with drinks. Shortly before 5pm, my bartender gave me the food menu as if she could read my mind. I got the mild breast sandwich and a small side of fries. The sandwich came out piping hot and prolly the juiciest chicken breast I've ever eaten. Could it be a wet brine process..? However, the chicken was a tad too salty for my taste. Still, I inhaled the sandwich. The fries were okay..? Nothing special but an adequate companion to my sandwich. This place hits every time. I introduced my hubby to this place when we started dating and now it's OUR favorite go to place for a good fried chicken sandwich with fries and the best white queso. Been wanting to try the chicken sandwich from here for awhile and finally had the chance to. I decided on the medium heat breast sandwich without the bun. I had asked for extra pickles but only got a small container but they had the coleslaw on the side as asked. I also ordered the chips and queso. Everything was packed up carefully for me to go which was good. Heated up the queso first and it was pretty good, not too many places make it well. The chips were very crispy and not over salted. The chicken was really good after warming up in the air fryer. It was actually a little more on the mild side but had a lot of flavor. The pickles were so good and wished I had more. I initially liked this place but the quality seems to have gone down drastically. My most recent order was pretty underwhelming. The chicken club sandwich had incredibly soggy bread and I asked for no mayo and it was caked in mayo which was pretty disgusting. The brisket dip also doesn't allow you to get it without mayo and the bread was unfortunately also soaked in mayo which was unappetizing. The chicken soup was pretty bland and lacked flavor. It's really disappointing because the grilled chicken club used to be pretty tasty and have toasted bread and was much more well put together and this time it felt kind of half ass thrown together, with soggy bread and bacon (the bacon used to be crispier). I want to like this place but the last couple orders have left me seeking other options. As it stands right now I'd recommend searching for other better options and not eating here until they take their quality more seriously again. read more

We came here after dinner for drinks, but we couldn't help but get the Fried Chicken Plate ($20) to try even though we were full already. The fried chicken plate come with 3 large pieces of chicken thigh deep fried in such a crispy batter. This is definitely one of the best fried chicken I have had. It also comes with a honey butter and two hot sauces that pair well along with the 3 mini biscuits. I definitely need to come back to try the fried chicken sandwich too. For drinks, there is a nice selection of tiki cocktails. I opted for the Old Fashioned ($16), which was extremely strong. For all service, make your order for food and drinks at the bar. This spot is half bar and half restaurant, which is quite interesting in the dark atmosphere inside. On the outside, there's also a bunch of lawn chairs and tables to enjoy as well. Went here on a whim, the vibes were high, staff were surprisingly nice. Small dive bar with limited dining tables. Wanted the nachos but sold out so opted for fish tacos and ginger beer. The fish tacos were literally just a big slice of fried fish with slaw and radish with salsa verde and regular. Wasn't really spectacular, my guest ate the rest. They hyped the food up. If the staff are reading this, cut fish in three bite size pieces then fry and place in three soft tacos. Suppose to be bite size not knife and fork size. I would just attend here for the vibes next time not eat the food. If anything I'll order fries. Prices are decent otherwise. Came with a group of 4 at around 10:30 on a weeknight and the place was packed, but we managed to grab a booth (thanks to a friendly employee who was looking out for us). I got Doordash from The Commodore. The fried chicken is juicy and delicious. The three large pieces are much larger than what one would receive at KFC or Popeye's. But I was disappointed that the amount of fries was lower than expected. It did not fill up the box. I ordered a large, with árbol sauce and smoked mayo ($11). When I compared what I got vs. pictures of what a large fries plate looks like on premises, I felt a bit short-changed. Also the sauces I received were not accurate, as they gave me honey butter and red sauce, which were still pretty good. And they had my dasher waiting a while before the order was ready. Perhaps it's better in person and on site. The drinks on the menu look good, particularly the Pina colada with amaretto float. Perhaps I will try one day when the weather is warmer. read more

I came for the fried chicken plate and it delivered. Everything else, maybe not so much. The fried chicken, as promised, is well brined and juicy, crunchy and has a ton of batter (hopefully you like that style). The plate is huge too and I ended up taking half home. The plate comes with biscuits which are ok but tastes like it was cooked a while ago, which is funny since I was there as soon as the kitchen opened at 5pm. The Mac and cheese also seemed to have been made a day ago and was lukewarm. Thankfully it reheats nicely but you don't come to the Commodore to eat food the next day. We finally made the pilgrimage to the Commodore for their chicken sandwich during a mini food and drink crawl in Williamsburg. I had a Pilsner will we waited for the sandwich. The atmosphere has a welcoming, local feel. We had the sandwich mild. I'd recommend medium or hot. Lots on a sesame seed bun with shredded lettuce and cucumbers. Chicken is juicy and crispy. I've been seeing this fried chicken sammy a-lot lately in my feed and thought this snowy week was a nice time to try it out! First, it was huge. Definitely two meals for me but would also be good to share with a friend. They have a Hot, medium and Mild option. I ordered the hot breast and loved the spice and cook on my chicken. It was coated really nicely and still very juicy. The coleslaw is very finely chopped which is perfect for this over the top sandwich. It definitely had a move vinegar-y flavor than other FCS I've had, but I personally enjoyed it. I also loved their chips and queso, you can't find very many spots in the city that serve white queso dio! My friend ordered the Mild sandwich and liked it but thought hers was a bit dry, I'm not sure if this is because hers didn't come with coleslaw on it. We went to The Commodore for group weekend brunch. It was a nice day, so we grabbed some tables outside. It was empty when we arrived, but filled up later. The menu for brunch is different than what they serve later in the day. There were various egg dishes available, hash browns, grits, and day drinks. No fried chicken plate, but there was a chicken biscuit. The chicken biscuit was a large, flattened chicken breast fried to perfection and topped with a drizzle of honey. I know their fried chicken is quite a hit and was even featured on a late night Munchies video once upon a time so definitely want to try it to see if it lives up to the hype. I found myself here for a chill Tuesday drink and it wasn't crowded. Easily found a seat with my friend at the bar. The bartenders were okay, I wouldn't say super friendly. But honestly sometimes I prefer to be left alone rather than pestered. The drinks here are cheap and very strong so probably a good place to grab a quick drink on the way to another spot as a pregame.
