The workers are all super nice and bilingual which is convenient. They were very hospitable and kind to me and my girlfriend when we swung by for soup and sandwiches. Came in on a random weekday for lunch. I'd heard about these mythical sandwiches and thought - how good can a sandwich be?! Turns out they are pretty amazing! Warm, perfectly toasted bread, short rib was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. Sat on the outdoor patio area which was relaxing and quite spacious. I admired that a lot of people came for beers at 1pm, must be a nice life! Unfortunately the kitchen was quite busy during our visit, and we ended up waiting over 35 minutes. For a freaking sandwich. A good one, yes, but that is pretty unacceptable on a weekday at lunch. Also - they have a card surcharge of 3.5% which was not advertised clearly until bill came. I was not the first to review The Wheelhouse, but I was the first customer for that day six years ago. I had the short rib grilled cheese and tots and chopped it up with one of the owners. He was good company and the food was all of that or alla dat! I wanted a grilled cheese sammie, but was too lazy to concoct one, plus I didn't have bread (trying to avoid it, but today's craving superseded that and because it's Friday!). Of course I ordered (UberEats) the short rib grilled cheese, but also the Red, White and Blue, because I love bleu cheese and almost any other cheese, I like variety and it's Friday. I had one half of each and was content and happy to say that The Wheelhouse is still on point! Spot is quaint with good music (Spanish/world) but it isn't suitable for cold/winter weather. There's mild heat if any inside but it's completely muted by the amazing windows and lack of external vestibule for the door. Because of this coffee was ice cold, even when the 2nd one had no milk and mac and cheese "soup" coagulated quite quickly. I wish they had more alcoholic beverages but even more non-alcoholic options would have been great too. Overall the food is super flavorful and I love that it is a spot that doesn't try and rush you to eat. Try a soup if you venture here in the cold they warmed me up very quickly. I mean - wow. Definitely a small place but 100% worth, especially if you like trivia on Wednesdays. Had a blast here not only with the food, but also with the trivia. While the service was a touch slow, it was literally one person for the whole place and they got the food out hot, fresh, and the drinks poured quickly. The loaded tots were so freaking delicious - smothered in a homemade cheese sauce with lots of bacon. So tasty. The sandwiches are so epic and I rarely get menu fomo, but I could not choose. Here's the deal - I'm sick, I have a 103.8 fever. I order 2 bowls of soup, bread and a grilled cheese for $30. I don't want to do this, but I'm having trouble keeping food down and I figure soup is gonna help (the grilled cheese though was to break the minimum and for that I take responibility) I leave instructions saying I'm super sick and would appreciate if they come upstairs, and they don't. Fine. It's New York City. I open by bag and I have two paltry cups of soup, with barely any substance, I mean maybe 10 altogether pieces of chicken, noodle, carrot and potato. They gave me two small soups. Again, I'm really sick. I was counting on those bowls of soup. I didn't spend $30 to get 2 small bowls of soup, a below-par grilled cheese (but again, I was sick, so I take partial responsibility) and soggy bread so that I can get 2 small soups and a $5 Uber credit. Went there for brunch since the website states that it would be $17 for 60 minutes of mimosas. When I got to the restaurant the employee stated that its $24 for 60 minutes of mimosas. Delivery Review: My new fave delivery place! Came across The Wheelhouse after searching Uber Eats for Brussels Sprouts and so glad I did! The brussel sprouts are shaved and lightly tossed in a tasty balsamic vinegarette with sprinkles of parmesan slightly overcooked but not in a bad way at all. The portion size on these is a bit small for the price but it's hard not to order it again as they really are that good! For my main I ordered the burrata salad which was also delicious, very lightly dressed bed of fresh arugula and tomatoes topped with pesto burrata. I had the lemon hummus toast with a side of tater tots (which I love that they offer instead of plain old fries) and a side of plantains (which is random and totally out of theme but I secretly loved it) I went right as they opened so they weren't busy at all and the staff was super friendly. However, I found it strange that their Root Beer float was priced the same as a their more "extensive" shake at $7.50. Isn't a Root Beer float, just ice cream topped with Root Beer? Their vanilla, strawberry and black and white shakes are priced at $6.50. Moving on, we got the Burger Melt with a fried egg and a Braised Short Rib and since it was a blistering hot day, we got a salad rather than the chips. Once we got the food the experience just got worse. My friend ordered the hamburger melt and I ordered the Smokehouse Turkey. My friends food was edible but so bland. It tasted like they didn't butter the bread nor season the meat. He ate half and left the rest. The meat on my sandwich had a terrible texture and it was very wet due to the black jam. I asked for a plain grilled cheese instead. That too would be very bland. I've never had a grilled cheese that lacked a salty flavor considering the cheese. I ate a quarter of it and had to let it go. I would never come back here with the exception of happy hour (drinks only). read more

Exploring Bushwick after my daughter moved in. Landed at Wheelhouse, on Wilson. It was 80 degrees and we were sitting outside. They immediately brought a bowl of water for the puppy. Two stars right there.
