Our first visit was great so we decided to come back here for breakfast everyday during our stay. The quality never disappointed. The food was great for both of us. Good coffee and friendly service. REVIEW ON CUSTOMER SERVICE I've been going to Silver diner for a very long time and my family too because we appreciate the food and the service, however today, I called to ask rather it would be possible to make a Birthday reservation at 7:30 and the lady at the phone was very welcoming and pleasent letting me know that they didn't work with reservations, however she would be leaving a room for the tables that could get close together. We wouldn't be able to get there at that time, but 8, so I called again, and the manager answered the phone. As I explained the situation( just as a courtesy because of the very good previous phone call I had the) the manager, Maliska or whatever it is her name, was very rude repeating what I already new, that they didnt take any reservations. Not a huge fan of diners, but I'll judge them on their merits, and Silver Diner gets 5 stars. A terrific menu of simple, interesting food rather than the typical cholesterol delivery systems at a lot of competitors. It's a fun, bright, clean place with comfy booths. Had the cajun salmon with brown rice and mixed vegetables. Everything was hot and perfect. Diners fail by soaking wilted vegetables in butter and lumping them in a pile. These were crisp, fresh, natural flavors not caked in salt. Rice was loose with great texture. Salmon held its own. Also had the cajun chicken penne. Diners fail by drenching pasta in a heavy cream sauce. Not here. Light seasoning on the ample helping of al dente pasta. Finished with apple pie a la mode. Ice cream was the real deal. I can be a DC food snob when summoned. Simple fact is that there are a lot of restaurants that would have served that salmon dish for $27 as a dinner entree. And a lot of restaurants would have featured the pasta for $18. Silver Diner charges a lot less than that, and that's a great value. Great value gets 5 stars from me. read more

I was in the mood for some soup and the Veggie Chili sounded like just the thing. So I ordered it and a couple of biscuits to pick up for lunch. I knew as soon as I took the lid off the container that this would not be good. It looked like a reddish brown mush of some sort with no discernable vegetables and beans. I returned to Silver Diner recently, this time to use my birthday reward with my mom - a free meal and dessert. I decided to treat myself this time, since it was for MY birthday, and I went to the dark side of the menu, the more unhealthy side, that is. Rather than getting one of the many healthy options, I went with the more traditional, indulgent diner food side and got the chicken and waffles. This includes two pieces of pickle brined fried chicken on top of a pecan waffle, with three different sauces on the side - cherry pepper honey, sausage gravy, and syrup. The addition of the pecans to the waffle added a nice crunch and the chicken was nice and tender, with just enough coating, without being overkill. I do think the three different sauces were a little too much. I only used one at a time, and avoided the spicy honey altogether, so I don't think all three were necessary. I would just stick with one and do it well. But I'm sure there are people out there who would appreciate the variety. My mom got the eggs Benedict and enjoyed that as well. For our free dessert, we again got the bread pudding, our go-to dessert. It was excellent as usual, steaming hot as it came out, with a heaping scoop of ice cream on top, gooey caramel dripping down the sides. We were given a corner piece this time, which I don't like as much, because I prefer the gooey center. But that's the same debate as the edge vs center of the brownies debate, so I know there are people out there who would prefer the edges. I've been here many times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mostly because I lived nearby and this place is open 24/7. There is a wait if you come for breakfast/brunch on the weekend but any other times I've been we were seated in a minute or two. On our most recent visit, I had the country fried steak with potatoes and my boy friend had the one of their specialty omelette with side of fruit. Country fried steak was thinly battered and fried well. Their gravy was super delicious, and certainly made the food outstanding. Service was okay, kind of slow and not as attentive. Waitress seemed really nice though but had to wait around each time we needed something. It was super hot inside for some odd reasons and I was so hot, it was almost uncomfortable. Two of us came here for a late lunch today. The Silver Diner appears to be a new establishment based on the old diner theme. There are even individual juke boxes at each table, though we found even the Low volume too loud. Service here was very fast and friendly-- everyone greeted us warmly. I had the eggs benedict and my companion had the lumberjack. Both meals were substantial and delicious. I noticed that the tomato on the eggs benedict was incredibly flavorful and delicious, like a fresh homegrown tomato. You know why? It's because Silver Diner is a small franchise that features farm to table cooking. They buy and serve local which is a very cool business model that makes for delicious tomatoes! Coffee mugs were dirty with old food crusted on the outside, hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was separated / almost chunky, and the corned beef hash was cold. No seasoning at all on the food either. This year (2023) we pre-ordered 32 meals. I called them to make the orders to go. No questions asked. All the meals were ready to be carried out as soon as we pulled up to the door. Only bad experience I've ever had at a Silver Diner. Looks like a bunch of young kids are starting their summer jobs, which is fine, but please train them better or have more managers on the floor to keep service running smoothly. Took over 30 minutes to get avocado toast which was really guacamole on toast but, fine. It took 30 minutes to get a scoop of guacamole on bread and some apparently canned corn beef hash which wasn't even hot... really? We didn't see our server until I'd had to ask another server to check on our order 30 minutes later, after seeing people all around us being served food, and then we saw her and had to practically shout to get her attention so she could check on our food. She didn't apologize for the food taking so long or even acknowledge that the food had taken so long. Then when we finally got our food it was incorrect and she tried to blame the kitchen. No. Diner cooks make what's on the ticket. Nice try girl. She clearly forgot to put in our order and from the looks of our itemized receipt had a hell of a time putting in the order at all based on how many things had to be taken off the check and put in multiple times. This is a decent spot for a late night dinner. My wife and I went here on a Sunday night when most other places in Reston were closed. The service was alright, and there was not wait, which we liked. I had the coffee to start, which was decent, but nothing spectacular. They service breakfast, lunch, and dinner while open. The menu is actually fairly huge. I tried the burgers which was solid, but nothing that you can't make at home. There was nothing special about it in anyway. I also had a coup of chicken noodle soup because of another review on here, but I was not that impressed. My wife had the waffles, which was not something she would get again. It was fairly average. Overall, a decent diner choice, but not something I would go to if I had the choice of another restaurant in Reston. If it is a late night, this will likely be my go-to spot. read more

When it arrived, it was obvious by the color and taste that the cook had put BBQ sauce on it and then scraped it off the burger and bun. There was something on the menu for everyone and service was friendly. The food was adequate, but did not match the hype the waitress offered. From ridiculous wait (they don't even start asking the parties for names and such to calculate waits and distribute tables but wait instead until you are at the counter to ask "how many") The eggs are always over cooked The food takes forever to come out The order is usually wrong The waitress rarely comes back to check side they have sooo many tables Don't think there are any bussers since the tables are always full of stuff.
