This place is a true 5 star. We visited recently to celebrate a birthday with the family. We made reservations in advance and we showed up we were immediately seated. The place is clean and bright! Very fun atmosphere. Our drinks and soup came quickly. The waitress was very prompt. The chef then showed up and put on a great show. The food was delicious. And the portions were huge. I see mixed reviews for this place, but I really thought it was fantastic. I'm not sure what people expect when they visit a Tepanyaki restaurant, but it delivered on everything I expected. I do think they need to upgrade the air conditioning as it was pretty warm but it was a hot day and the heat coming from the table side cooking was around. Overall, great staff and food. I was excited to come here for my birthday but I was very disappointed. I hadnt been to one of these type of resturants(Benihanna) in a long time. We drove 45 miles; Let's cut to the chase: 1) The guy who cut the food was boring. He did't even keep my son's attention who has down syndrom and loves this kind of stuff. He was probably recruited from one of those places; Total price around $260 for 9 people; He was also using his cell phone while waiting for the waiter to be found. 2) The waitier was awol. If you're work there and wondering who it was- it was the white girl. She kept disapearing and we kept having to ask people to find her! For a long time after he cooked the vegetables, we were waiting for the white rice so we could start eating. My soda ran out; My water ran out. We had to keep asking people to get her back to our table. If we didn't have 9 people then I would not have left a tip; 3) I keep thinking how we should of ate at the mall and spent the other $200 on the movies; This was just bad and disrespectiful. It was just a job for them. 4) The birthday song sucked. The family couldn't notify the waiter it was my birthday because she wasnt coming around; Once we finally caught her and she came by to sing happy birthday, my wife was so upset! Hhmmmm... the food is amazing, and the service is mostly great. However, I went there to celebrate a friends birthday on 3/2. We sat in the dinning room next to the bar and We ordered sushi and some drinks. The server named Michelle never came to check on us, so we had to ask another server for help and to inquire about our sushi. Finally after 45-50 minutes after our cooked food arrived is when the sushi got to the table and shortly after puff.. there comes Michelle. She asked about our food and we expressed our frustration on the lateness of the sushi.. and she had the audacity to ask what we wanted her to do about it. I have been to a teppanyaki place before but never been to Shogun specifically. I think I have had better than this. I had their sesame chicken,and i think it was a bit to dry. My food was cooked in the kitchen since I ordered later than when the people in my table had ordered. I did try the ribeye steak and I liked it a lot better. My veggies were filled with onions more than the bell peppers. the miso soup wasn't good either. The salad however was really good. I think this place is just okay for me. Very weird experience. I ordered shrimp fried rice and they brought me chicken fried rice instead. When I brought it to their attention they took the dish back and pretended to remake it. They brought out the same dish of chicken fried rice but put 4 pieces of shrimp on top. When I brought it to their attention that there was still chicken in the rice they said that all of their rice comes with chicken in it. This was a complete lie and they were just trying to get out of remaking the rice. They showed no remorse for getting the order wrong and they really tried to convince me that all of the rice came with chicken instead of just admitting to their mistake and making the dish over. read more

As this was my first time coming to a Shogun, I couldn't help but notice how reminiscent it was of Benihana, lots of parallels to it. To keep this concise, let's get down to the nitty gritty: Service was good, chef did his thing and had some dope teppan tricks, as did the servers, they kept our drinks filled and removed our plates accordingly, I like that. Quality of the food was pretty good minus the few undesirable chunks of fat my rib eye steak had, other than that, no complaints. Ambiance, like I said, was reminiscent of Benihana, sans the complimentary picture at Beni. Verdict: A slightly more affordable version of Benihana with similar quality. A 3.5/5, I fw it. read more

I ordered shogun for pick up and they forgot one of my meals so I waited an additional 20 minutes so they can prep, then they gave me all my meals and not until I got home that i realized that they forgot all the sides on my son's meal.( birthday boy ) I called them and they wouldn't come drop off the missing sides and was told to call manager next day for refund. Manager gave me refund for the sides only, she should have given me a full refund. My son did eat the meat alone and it's not the same. It ruined his meal. Food is sub par and overpriced. I've been here twice. The first time It was actually good albeit not fantastic. After my last visit I won't be going back. My New York Steak came out cold but I ate it anyway because I was with a friend and I had already caused enough trouble sending seared albacore back which was supposed to be sashimi. The brown rice was completely undercooked and hard to chew. The vegetables were basically burned. I ordered sashimi and it came out to the table as seared albacore drenched in ponzu sauce. I was not given a dish for soy sauce and there was no Wasabi on the plate as well. The onion soup that came with the meal was terrible. had dried prepackaged crunchy onions in it. I couldn't eat it. The servers and Hostess were really great but as far as the food goes steer clear. It was just one of those restaurants where you walk out 60 bucks poorer and extremely disappointed. read more

How the pretty good have fallen! This used to be pretty good. Not excellent, Temecula-good. Not any more. Last visit was baaad. - salad dressing had bitter weird taste. I asked and she said "it's a ginger dressing." I know ginger, that ain't ginger. It was so bad I almost spit it out. Bitter, flat taste. - pan-fried gyoza were pan-steamed-barely. I get that gyoza wrappers are usually thinner than pot sticker wrappers. But these were just steamed and fell apart because (if nothing else) there was no indication that they had touched a pan. Just steamed, no crispy part. - nigiri sushi fail. The fish had decent taste and cut, but very small. And they made up for that with extra rice. Like 50% more than normal. And the rice was barely sushi rice. No taste, no stickiness. And the spider roll had so much filling I had to look and see if there was any crab in it. And the unagi was just laying on the rice, not seaweed-tied to it. Oh and no sushi order form with menu. And none on offer. She just wanted and took my order verbally. Ok, just not what I expect. I also find their wasabi paste to be weak. But there is a range on that anyways so I don't totally hate them for that. On the plus side, the service was ok. They were attentive and definitely working hard. We've been coming here for years and it's been slowly losing me. Now gone! There are other nearby sushi/Japanese restaurants that are newer and more committed to earning my business through great food. read more

Must say I was very impressed with the flavor of the food. My steak was cooked perfect. Only gave 4 stars for the amount of food received. I ordered around 3:45 & I'm going to assume due to the timing of my order the cooks prepared a lunch orders due to lunch ending at 3. We ordered the steak/shrimp combo, chicken/shrimp combo & a half order of sushi with chicken fried rice. The food filled up half of the container, there was no chicken in the fried rice & for $90 I'd expect a tad bit more. I'll give them another try but will dine in & see how it goes. read more
