We've been regular customers here for years and unfortunately, tonight was our last visit. There has been a steady decline in quality of service over the last year, and tonight our server not only knew nothing about the food on the menu, she didn't seem to care. But I can look past bad service, as long as the fish is good. Well they got a new sushi chef a couple months ago, young guy. I recently ordered from Sakura Sushi through DoorDash for the first time, and I was impressed by the super-fast delivery--definitely a plus! I took advantage of their happy hour deal, which included BOGO California rolls and egg rolls, and also ordered the Golden Spicy Tuna Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and a katsu plate. The sushi rolls were good, but definitely not mind blowing. I've had better elsewhere-- but considering the price, they were reasonable. We thought we would stop and try this restaurant. We normally eat at a Sushi restaurant in Widomar. This restaurant is larger and has more tables. It has tables with chair, and booths that have firm but comfortable cushion. Our server was average, she sat us but failed to provide us with our napkins, chopsticks, and forks until we asked for them. The Miso soup had tiny pieces of tofu and green seaweed. Fairly sizable bowl and it was hot. We ordered Rainbow roll, an assorted fish, and Jessica. Eight pieces. They were average in size, meaning I could put the entire piece in my mouth, as compared to some other sushi restaurants that have extremely large pieces and others that are tiny. Came by here with a friend for an early dinner. There wasn't anybody so we got seated right away. I love the sakura tree decors inside as it gives me Japan vibes. I ordered the takoyaki and Eel nigiri and my friend ordered some sushi rolls and a yellotail collar. I liked the takoyaki as it was perfectly good! The sushi roll and nigiri was okay. What a total let down to order a Spicy Tuna Roll and California Roll and find both were not surrounded in Rice and were not even Gluten Free, wrapped in a covering and deep fried. How disappointing. Writing this review in regards to an online pick-up order I placed through Uber Eats. I had been wanting to try this spot for a while, and when I saw they had a BOGO offer on select rolls, I jumped on the opportunity. Ordered two spicy tuna rolls, one Cajun tuna roll, and one yellowtail maki roll. Favorite roll was the yellowtail maki roll, the least favorite were the spicy tuna rolls, due to the fact that they had a fishy taste. Not sure what was going on there but spicy tuna should not taste fishy. The Cajun roll was edible, but nothing to write home about. I can't really comment on the service since this was a pick-up order, but the interaction was pleasant. The hostess that handed off my order seemed pleasant and friendly. The interior of the restaurant looks fancy, but I did notice that they have a "no public restroom" sign on the door. The sushi was good, and the restaurant decor is really nice, but the staff could use some training. We did AYCE, buy 3 get one free, otherwise their price is about $10 more than other local spots. The servers would only come by to grab the sheet or refill our waters if we flagged them down, otherwise they were just sitting at a table and chatting, not paying attention. At one point, we had a table full of dirty dishes and when they came by to grab the sheet, they looked at the dishes and didn't pick them up. The yellow tail melted in my mouth. Definitely my favorite. Their salmon cuts were also super soft and yummy. Even their tuna wasn't as fishy as we thought it would be. Hand rolls have a generous amount of sashimi inside them. Their wasabi is authentic so it tasted even better. Highly recommend warm green tea while eating the sushi. We sat at the bar so we got 5 star treatment from the fun and friendly chefs. Servers were also very chill and sweet. We were extremely comfortable for first timers. Been here a handful of times, typically for take-out since alot of times they are busy at night. I most often get the spicy tuna roll, the salmon maki, and an eel roll. The sushi pieces are decent sized and they dont skimp on the filling either. The baked rolls with eel on them always taste fresh and are hot even when i go to pick-up, and the salmon maki typically always have a hefty fresh slice of salmon in them. Only reason im not here more often is cuz it is a little bit pricey, but for the amount of food i do think it's worth the splurge. read more

Their AYCE price is moderate at $45/person for dinner but it is worth every single penny to indulge your taste buds. Particularly, something that caught my eye was the dragon egg. This is an appetizer they offer but it's a deep fried avocado with tuna, cream cheese, and crab. It was so bomb. I just wish I ordered it at the beginning rather than the end because now I feel like I'm gonna explode lol. The owner and sushi chef, Daniel, just moved here a month ago from Houston. Saw their ad on instagram and caught my eye with the AYCE for $40 all of December. Came on a Tuesday afternoon and no one was there. The place was so pretty and clean, it was a nice ambiance! The portions were HUGE even though it's AYCE, they were monster rolls. I have never seen such huge AYCE rolls before. I ate there with my bf and we were so stuffed we didn't even touch our plates because the pieces were so big, off one bite you're full. I came here with my family for my brother's birthday despite the reviews and I'm kinda' happy we did! The reason why I chose this restaurant to try was because of the aesthetic of the inside. It had a really interesting concept of cherry blossom trees inside that reminded me of Cloak & Petal in SD! Since we were the first ones in here for lunch, we were the only ones. We ordered mainly variations of salmon sushi; baked, raw, spicy salmon, etc. They all came out really quickly (thanks to the Sushi Chef!), and they all were so delicious. I loved all of the sushi we had, which was the the In n' Out, Lion King, Cajun Salmon, Philadelphia and a Jessica Roll. Our favorite were the Cajun Salmon and Lion King rolls! The sushi was so fresh and torched perfectly for the baked salmon sushi rolls. We were in town and needed a sushi fix. A local recommended this place, so we gave it a try. We were there around 8:00pm on a Friday night. We were 1 or 2 couples there and no other patrons. We originally planned to go to another place in Old Town, but they had a temporary banner outside, it looked like it was under new mgt, and few people inside.we decided to look on Yelp and saw pretty good reviews of Sakura. The service was fast and the people were friendly. The sushi was, OK. Not our usual LA quality, but it was doable. We had 1 large roll ,911? (I forgot the name), sushi and tempura. The tempura and sushi came out pretty quickly as if they were already made. The roll was pretty good. The salmon, yellow tail, and tuna sushi were just ok. Maybe their other rolls are better? All in all, we were hungry and thus worked for us and the people were nice. If there are other higher rated places, I suggest trying those. I love the AYCE option and instead of 8 pieces when you ordered a roll on the menu it serves 4 making it easier to try all the rolls possible! The rice was mushy, the fish was starting to stank, and they had run out of shrimp for the day and ain't let me know before ordering all you can eat sushi. The only thing that saved this from being a 1 star was the darling staff who kept my water topped off, that's about the only thing they were doing right. Wanted to write this review in hopes that owner/manager would see it. Please train your wait staff! We love the sushi and all the options but after many attempts to deal with the lack of attentiveness from the wait staff I give up. Every time we have gone here I am always sitting and waiting for them to refill my water. I started bringing in my own water bottle and filling my glass myself. The staff are always sitting in a both just hanging out and talking amongst eachother...ALWAYS....We get frustrated waiting for them to realize that our drink glasses are empty , our order is ready, dirty plates on table and finally asking for our check.
