We ordered the all you can eat fish fry because we had it before with the previous owners. It was great before, large pieces of cod done to perfection. Now they use fish sticks. The breading is so hard you could break a tooth on. There is little fish and a lot of hard breading. Worst fish fry I have ever eaten. They charge $19 dollars for the terrible meal and I wouldn't give them a dollar for it. Stay away at all costs. The only thing good about the meal was looking over the water and mountains. We don't know what the rest of the food is like, but if the fish fry is any indication of the quality of food...lookout. Gone are the good ole days when you could get a great fish fry. After a nice cruise on the lake, we headed up to the Shiprock restaurant for our 5:30 OUTDOOR DINING RESERVATION. Even though we had a reservation for our party of 9, they could not seat us outdoors, so we were seated inside. Service was incredibly slow, and it took over an hour and a half to get our food order! In that time, i had to flag our server down for drink refills for our table. Once our food FINALLY arrived, 8 out of the 9 meals each had an issue. Cold food, overcooked food, incomplete orders, etc. Not to mention, we only received 5 sets of silverware! The lack of service from the wait staff was ridiculous! Not enough silverware, no napkins, no butter/sour cream for the baked potatoes (Not that butter could've melted with a cold potato anyway). They were going to re fire the orders, which at that point was pointless. The so called manager came over to see what the problem was. NEVER in my life, have I ever had a similar situation, and the managers response was, "I promise if you come back during the week, the service and food will be better". I mean, WOW! After her getting the owner on the phone, she walked around our table and took inventory as to what each one of us may have already eaten, as she relayed this to the owner. Then came back, and did it again!! After hanging up the phone, she offered to discount the bill by 50%. WHAT!!??? We started to go along with it, without thinking. Then a couple of the men in our party spoke up, and said, "We don't feel that we should pay for anything, especially considering that not 1/2 the food was even eaten. Another call to the owner, resulted in a $0 charge. Bottom line is, the service was lousy, food was lousy, and the way the situation was handled was.... LOUSY. Don't go there expecting a nice experience, not to mention the menu is way OVERPRICED. Do yourself a favor, take the boat ride, but treat yourself to a better dining experience ELSEWHERE. read more

This place could be nice as it's exclusive to the marina. BUT, I'm appalled at the prices--$20 for a veggie burger, utterly ridiculous, especially since the only ambience is the lake itself. Also, when I got my credit card bill it was not the same amount (with tip) that I signed for, which gives me a bad feeling. I tried to call them 3x today and there line is busy, as I felt it fair to give them a chance to explain. I would avoid this place, bring your own picnic instead! Went there for lunch today and have mixed feelings. Seeing a lake in Arizona was a refreshing change from just desert so eating lakeside was a nice experience. Our server was friendly and did her job just fine. Some of our food was disappointing. The fish they had in my husband's fish basket was the same fish used in their fish tacos that my friend ordered. Unfortunately it was very greasy and bland. The fish tacos are not what you usually expect. They just give you tartar sauce instead of a traditional fish taco sauce . I had the shrimp basket and it was fine. Our other friend had the BLT sandwich and he enjoyed it. Looked like it is a popular spot given hoe remote the location is. read more

Let me start by saying that we have always enjoyed our stops at the Shiprock in the past and frequently take our friends and family. But that wasn't the case yesterday. My family stopped for lunch and had the worst experience. I don't know at this point what disappointed us the most....the extra long wait, the price of the below average food or the horrible service we were given. If I had to choose I would say the service. Good customer service can make up for a lot. On top of that we were forced to give a tip for the terrible experience due to the size of our group. Ive been coming here for years. Stopped in after tubing down the salt river, and was shocked that my friend and I were greeted with cold watermelon slices just after we sat down. We ordered the nachos, as an appetizer, and we both ordered sandwiches. Excellent, friendly service, but the best part was that we later found out that it was the new owner who brought us that cold juicy watermelon! I've been in and out of the food service industry for over 25 years, and being that I had just moved to AZ. permanently, I really wanted to be part of their team, and work for this new owner who went out of his way to make sure we were happy, and that everything was on point. I had two procedures coming up or I would have turned in an application with my resume as soon as possible! I didn't think it would be right, starting a job, then having to ask him for time off. Excellent!! We realized yesterday that this restaurant finally has a 7am opening time for breakfast! Yay! (Used to be 9). And since we get up early, this is a great destination for us to ride to on our motorcycles. We met the new owners when Rob checked on how our meal turned out. This restaurant has the most incredible views and is so close to Mesa, that if you tried it before, you need to try it again (it's our new breakfast hangout) and if you are new to the area or visiting the view of Saguaro Lake is a must see!!! Shirley has a dessert favorite that Rob makes himself. I can't wait to go back for dinner with my friends and family. The breakfast was perfectly prepared to our requests and we are impressed with the remodel and name change. It's next to the marina and will be a popular hangout when the outdoor bar is finished. I highly recommend this place and hope the new owners much success!!!!! read more

We arrived at 3:00 PM an hour before dinner is served. I asked the server if we could order dinner instead of lunch and she checked with the chef and he said it was OK. I order the King crab legs and my wife and daughter order the duck. We all ordered long island ice tea real drinks not watered down like most places. Dinner came a little after 4:00 and my King crab legs filled the plater, see picture. They were delicious so I was a happy diner. The server was exceptional and made sure everything was perfect. I had the special of the day, the pulled pork with sweet potato french fries. The pork was tender and the sauce was just right for a delicious barbecue flavor. Prime rib is from a roast but this restaurant served a cut more like a rib eye steak. Three of us who ordered prime rib sent it back as too well done; the second try was only a bit better but still not a roast and significantly over done. The other person ordered catfish specifying it to be broiled; it arrived breaded. Four orders for four people were not good. We went away not pleased with the food--only the view. read more

This was our once every 6-8 weeks to get out and splurge night. I must say we were really disappointed following what we were expecting to be a great meal. Upon arrival we were seated by the edge of the patio- great view and the misters were on which made it very comfortable. That was about the best part of the experience. We were provided menus upon arrival and discussed what we having. The server came took our beverage order and we decided to order coconut shrimp for $13.00. Within 10 minutes of placing the order they (6 shrimp or approx. $2.00 ea.) arrived well before our beverages. What a disappointment- 1st they were a little bigger than a quarter and over cooked. They appeared to be the kind purchased from a local super market in a box/bag. We did eat them but disappointed. I would have thought for that price they would have been hand breaded or at least purchased from one of the local restaurant supplies. (Which we have done and huge difference). Now onto the rest of the meal. I ordered the full rack of ribs. I saw them that last time we were there and they looked GREAT!!.(A side note the last time they sold out very quickly.) The other order was the 'all-u can eat fish'. Our order arrived quickly again what a disappointment. WE should have known then. The fish appeared to be frozen, each piece was similar to Long John Silver's size, shape and portion. The ribs were also not what we saw the last time- the sauce was so thick that I had to scrape some of it off- left us to wonder if this was one of those ribs in a bag w/sauce, that they just throw in the microwave and heat up. After eating a few bites of the fish and ribs, we decided time to go. I mentioned to the server the fish was not what we were expecting and could she change from the 'all-u-can-eat' to just the meal, she agreed and adjust the bill. During the course of the meal, the server could not be found to ask for malt vinegar. . we later found out why; she and one of the cooks were out behind the port-a-potties smoking. Unfortunately, this is not what we expected for spending a $100.00, which is really too bad due to what Robert had to endure during the pandemic. We had a reservation for the boat tour and got to the restaurant 11/2 hrs ahead of time-30 min before the tour still no food! Not a very good sign, told the waitress to just make our order to go. The manager came over, apologized, told us to go on the tour, and come back - they would cook a fresh meal with extras! We did and they went over and beyond to compensate for their mistake. We have ordered two Bacon Cheeseburger on rye bread. It have taken us a little while to explain to "replacement" waiters want we want. She kept saying classic so I have showed her twice on the menu what I want. She didn't pay much attention apparently, because she brought us two buns with classic burger. No bacon or tomato and on bun which I dislike. When I complained she apologized blaming my accent. I am a professional speaking English for last 35 years! Instead of just apologizing she start to blame me for misunderstanding! How bacon could be mispronounced as classic?! That was very rude and inconsiderate. Any way burger was not even medium and fries were very greasy. The waiters was not even their regular waiters but the one only walks you to the table. Went on a Sunday sat Inside due to a wait for outside. ordered food. After 30 min the server told us the printer crashed and cause a massive back up on the printer but the food was coming. Another 10 min later the manager came over and repeated the same thing the server said. I took about 50 min to get 3 burgers and a corn dog. Customers who came in and sat next after we had been there got there food before us and got there check and were leaving when we got our food. And they even commented how long we had been waiting was ridiculous. I called the next to to talk to the manager about the extreme wait not worth the money I paid for the food. And was told my ticket tome was only 30 min and that was a good ticket time for a busy Sunday and they weren't going to do anything for me and hung up. It was not a 30 min ticket time because we didn't leave the restaurant till almost 2pm due to waiting almost an hour for the food. even offered to send pics of uneaten food we got togo because we were upset we waited so long and got togo boxes after the food finally came out. only thing good was the drinks. also ordered onion rings got fries asked for bacon on my burger had to ask for it after they brought out the food. boyfriends burger came out plain. had to ask for lettuce tomato pickles. When it was the Lakeside restaurant we came here often. It was our "go to" spot to entertain out-of-staters who viewed Arizona as a vast desert. The drive from Mesa via the Bush Highway is outstanding and there's a chance they might see wild horses. We stopped going about 4 years ago because we found the food quality had declined and the prices kept climbing. When we learned there were new owners operating under a new name we decided to give it a try. We found the facility had greatly increased seating capacity, mostly outside. The old bolt-to-the-wall tables were gone, replaced by more standard tables and chairs. Many additional tables were placed on the patio overlooking the lake and marina. Other tables had been added to the staircase landings in, I think, two locations. These all offered nice views. The downside is, you have a constant stream of people walking up and down the stairs and past you on the patio. Covid concerns??? My wife and I ordered the catfish poor boy and I had the fried shrimp. We both thought our food was very good. The sides were a pineapple cole slaw and fries. Both were good. The food is expensive, maybe $2-$4 higher per item than you will find at in town restaurants, but you are paying for the view and probably for the extra delivery charge purveyors will add because they have to drive so far to bring supplies to the restaurant. I also imagine you have to pay staff a higher wage to make the drive to the lake every work day. We did not use any of the restrooms so I cannot comment on them. We will return. read more

My family and I decided to make a pit stop on our lovely road trip to the lake to this restaurant. From the outside, it looks amazing, with a wonderful view of the lake, it is 100% a tourist attraction. However, from the inside, it is a bit grim. For starters, we were immediately seated, however, a couple with a hijab had to wait over an hour to be seated while others were seated before. It was offensive for others to be s3ated why if they had to wait and constantly ask if their seat was ready. The second thing which I was baffled by was the astronomical prices for the mediocre food. I have been vegetarian for over a year, and I have had great hamburgers, this place is not the place to go for a vegetarian burger. It wasn't that cooked in the middle and cost 20 dollars, not worth the price at all. My whole family got other sandwiches, and we all left the place feeling sick. We felt nauseous for over 3 hours and we're pretty sure that the food we ate was either not fresh or not good. On top of that, when I went to the lady's room, none of the stalls had toilet paper. When I had asked someone about this, they told me how they have been asking the servers and workers for toilet paper for over an hour, and nothing, it wasn't until someone went to the men's restroom and brought us toilet paper (not a worker) that we finally could go. In addition, we were given an additional charge to our bill for using a credit card (which was a sum that we were not happy with). Moreover, our bill was high with the high prices for the low-quality food we were given and were automatically charged with tips, which we were upset about. Overall, the staff wasn't friendly, they were racist towards this sweet couple who wanted to get a seat, the food was terrible, and their bathrooms were not maintained well. I would recommend you go somewhere else or save your appetite and not get food poising. read more

My wife and our puppies took a drive out to Saguaro Lake on Wed 7/27/22 and had lunch on the patio overlooking the lake. I had the Chef's Salad and my wife chose the Taco Salad. Service was excellent and our server even took care of our puppies with a bowl of water. Our experience was lovely! Monsoon clouds were gathering over the lake and we had such a lovely time we tipped well. Prices here are on the high side but to be expected due to the view and seclusion of this place. We paid our tab and left and my wife became ill immediately in the parking lot before we even got in our vehicle. After a lengthy vomit session, we were able to drive home and I got her hydrated and in bed. The next day my wife called after somewhat recovering enough to speak on the phone and spoke with Scott. She informed Scott of our experience and requested a refund of the price of her meal. We tried to be fair, my meal was fine and I did not experience food poisoning. Scott responded that he would notify the chef immediately but that he is not authorized to refund any money (the manager unable to refund $18! Yikes!) and that only the owner could do that and that they would be returning on Saturday. Scott said he would for sure notify them. Here it is Monday, 8/1/2022 and no call after we left our phone number! So with these facts, eat at this careless place at your own risk! read more

Make sure you bring extra clothes for your kids. After renting a boat for 3 hours, we were hot and starving so we decided to pop into the restaurant for a quick bite. My 12 year old did not bring a change of clothes, besides her bathing suit. She was fully wrapped in a towel, but they denied us service because of it. Our party of 7 will dine elsewhere. SO sad....! I want my favorite place back "LAKE SHORE RESTUARANT". We have given the Ship Rock restaurant a second chance on Monday, March 2nd. First time was in Aug., I was really excited to see the restaurant open under the new name. Didn't take long to burst my bubble. I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea, after three tries it was drinkable. We then ordered appetizers. The cook or I think he thinks he's a chef, came out & asked how everything was. We told him it was ok & that it all tasted kinda blah. He need to season it for flavor! No comment from him. Then the bill came, Wow all I remember is the charge for my drink was over $16 & the food did not impress. It was very upsetting, because it is such a great location. Our sisters Vaca on March 2nd, I thought maybe things have change. They still do not have a bar tender. Our chicken gizzards were like rubber, sent them back & the cook said they were fixed right. Thanks to our waitress they did not come back & she took them off the bill. I did see the same gentleman from our last trip come out of the kitchen. He did not come to our table though. Our bill for 4 appetizers, 2 beers & 2 drinks came to 91.97. Which I would have no problem with if the quality of food matched the price. Very disappointed in the food, the service and the cost. 3 people for lunch with 1 appetizer and 2 entrees and 2 drinks cost $81. The Nachos Grande and taco salads were both 1/2 the size that they used to be without a reduction in cost, The fish tacos were very good but 1 out of 3 is not a good average. read more

We were a group of tourists from Britain who went for one drink after a boat trip to this restaurant (spent 30 minutes there). The owner was clearly keen on pushing food and canned drinks on us to take away with us while we were there (asking repeatedly) while mixed in with some phony "friendly" chitchat. After the meal, we had no phone signal and were using his phone to call for a taxi. He went to check how much tip we had left, came back while we were on the phone and asked us to hang up and return the phone because the tip we left (8pc) was not enough. He asked us to leave, knowing fully well we were stranded in the middle of nowhere. Nasty piece of work. We ended up walking to the Saguaro ranch about 45 minutes away by walk (through the rain!), where the staff were lovely and let us use their WiFi to order an Uber. You can probably get a drink there after a trip on the marina, rather than going to this hole in the ground run by a phony nasty person. read more
