In my opinion, the BEST Indian food in Tucson. Even the parking lot in front of Sher-e-Punjab smells amazing. I eat here anytime I crave Indian. My go-to dishes are lamb masala and paneer masala or palak paneer. The samosas are delicious with a hint of spiciness. I also like the roasted cauliflower appetizer. I never leave without ordering the garlic naan. Never. I dream about that naan it's so good. The food can be ordered spicy, medium, or mild for weenies like me, but it maintains its flavor integrity. I have high hopes for the dal-- I'll try it soon and let everyone know if it's as good as my boyfriend's. The inside of the restaurant has been recently remodeled and it's actually nice-- like date night nice! They added in a bar. The lighting is nice. The tables are nicer. A very cool vibe. Also, I notice they've had a lot of the same staff there as when I started going over two years ago. I think that speaks well to the restaurant as well. Started with some garlic naan and tried their mango lassi drink. The drink was delicious came out cold, (not cold like a milkshake) thick and smooth. Tasted like I was drinking a mango. They have the BESt chicken tikka masala i have ever tried. We come here alot and while their naan is tasty they tend to burn it :( but their tikka masala makes up for it. We've been dining here for about 17-years. It was always our top choice for Indian! Their authenticity was always top notch! Unfortunately, after our last visit, we will no longer be dining there. Our Dahl and Baingan bharta had no flavor or spices. My eggplant was mostly oil. My friend usually gets the tandoori special and this is the first time it was wet and sweet. It was such an off visit as everything everyone ordered was not good, not the authentic dishes we were accustomed to. We didn't eat the food and proceeded to pay and leave. I spoke with the manager since the servers couldn't help us. The manager then proceeded to tell us that they use ketchup and that was likely the wet and sweet sauce flavor.....I was shocked! I had to remind him that if we wanted ketchup all over our "authentic" Indian food, we would eat next door at McDonalds. He shrugged and offered no explanation. Sher-e-Punjab has become my staple for takeout and they have gone through a lot of great improvements over the past couple of years. The restaurant is beautifully remodeled inside and their take out system is so well-streamlined it might be the best system I have ever seen. We ordered online, went to pick up the food, he couldn't find my order, and even when I found it there on his list, it still took another half hour. I went here for the first time, and although I am American, I have lived and had Indian food in large cities (NY, San Fran) and I love the complex flavors and diverse tastes of the food. However, here, my food had ZERO flavor at all. I ordered 'medium' spice. I was like eating warm mush with no taste. The waitress was not at all knowledgable about the menu or food, I had a few questions and her reply was 'read the menu' So, between totally bland flavorless food and bad service, I don't think I'll return. Had the Chicken Tikka Masala three times now. First time I ordered medium and it was delicious! It was my first experience with Indian cuisine and fell in love with it! Second time, we dined in with a group of friends and I ordered it again, but spicy this time. Ouch! My Louisiana self could not handle that kick lol. Really good Indian food...one of the few in my experience that has tastes authentic. Went here on a weekend and they still had a lunch buffet, which was cool cause not many Indian places do the lunch buffet on weekends. Their curries and biryanis are really delicious and are actually spicy if you request them to be. This place also one of the few Indian restaurants that has more shrimp and fish dishes. Which could've been amazing had the shrimp had more shrimp though. Their naan, especially the garlic naan is very flavorful and really great as they come fresh off the oven. Although they do not have Kashmiri naan, they do have Kashmiri rice which goes really well with the dishes. One downside is that there's no complimentary papadums and chutney to start the meals but other than that Sher-e-Punjab is definitely one of the best places to get Indian food in Tucson. read more

I'm a gig driver and went there to pick up someones' lunch. I found the front of the house staff (including perhaps the owner/manager) to be rather rude and totally inefficient. I was made to believe 4 times over 30 minutes of waiting that my food delivery would be ready within a couple of minutes. It never was. I will NOT be recommending this place to anyone, nor will I eat there. Restaurants continue to count on gig drivers through various apps to take their food to clients for delivery. Gig drivers get paid $2-4/delivery and if there is a tip. We do NOT get paid to wait at a restaurant because they do not have the food ready. I stuck it out 30 minutes there, got paid NOTHING and am guessing if they continue in this vein, they will lose gig drivers to take their food. Horrible. read more

I stopped by at lunchtime to get take-out and somehow felt unwelcome, like it was bother to take my order even though they weren't busy. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and while I was waiting, I thought it would be nice to come back with friends for dinner another time. Been here once before. They have changed the place up a little bit. They have a buffet which has some pretty good options. We stuck with the menu and ordered the lamb and chicken masala. Super good. We liked this place so much I ate there again the next day. We started with the sampler. Not sure if we were supposed to use the pepper and mint salsa with but we did and it worked. We then got the Tikka Marsala and Chicken Curry. Couldn't decide which was better. The next day I ordered the Tikka Marsala again and my coworker got one of the beef dishes. THE Best Indian in town!. We've tried them all and the others are mediocre at best, and downright icky at worst. The Sher e Punjab is our go to weekly now. The food is prepared with care and complex flavors, the variety is super, the servings are generous and the service is very good. A remarkably well run place. They handle the crowds extremely efficiently, and the prices are fair. I just wish it was more central and more north so we could eat there every day ! Some of our favs are the lamb shahi korma, the palak chana, and the jeera rice. Its a good combo. 2020 UPDATE: I wrote this review in 2015 on Zomato but still feel this way - it's still the best Indian in town! I used to go a lot to their buffet before the pandemic. Later I ordered to go. This was my in person first visit after they canceled the buffet. The restaurant was remodeled but had only three tables with customers on Friday around 1pm. Still I was seated at the very corner, so annoying. Previously they were so packed and you have to wait to be seated. You can tell that I liked the place better when they had a buffet. This was our first visit to Sher E Punjab since moving to their new location (literally just next door to the old location). The interior is swanky and attractive. It was, however very warm in the dining room. The waitstaff are attentive and keep things very clean. We opted for the lunch buffet. On offer was a variety of vegetables and meat dishes. Surprisingly for a buffet, the food is fresh and hot and delicious. The Tandoori chicken is probably the best I've ever had. The Samosas were hot and crisp. The Kofta curry was exceptional. Only the beef curry was a bit under par as the meat was very tough. Beef on an Indian menu seems quite strange to begin with. The desserts are also quite good. Our server kept our iced tea full and removed dirty plates immediately. The cost of the buffet seems to have gone up since the move. Two lunch buffets with iced teas, tax, and tip came in at about $35. We'll definitely be back. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for many years. Over those years the quality has never changed. This is my favorite Indian food restaurant in Tucson. Most others haven't come close in terms of flavor. I got the chili chicken and chicken tikka masala. Both dishes were very tasty and can be adjusted to how spicy you like them. The restaurant has recently recieved a facelift which makes the restaurant appear more modern. Service was top notch and attentive. This place has off-the-charts fantastic Indian food. I picked up takeout the other night. It had been about three years since I'd eaten there. I had really liked it before, but I don't live in the area. Since my last visit, the inside had been renovated to accommodate more people, and it looks very nice. But what really struck me is that the already high-quality food was taken to the next level. It is a hard move to go from excellent to outstanding, but Sher-e-Punjab has done it! The food is memorable--even something as simple as the papadum. In addition to knocking it out of the park with traditional favorites, we expanded our ordering to some of the novel dishes. My all time favorite Indian Restaurant! The best Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had. The flavor is very rich and authentic. I also love the chicken samosas, and the sheesh kabobs. The green chutney, onions topped with chaat masala on the side is a must. I found this place when I was a student at the UofA almost 15 years ago.
